Iron Within! Iron Without!!!
Buff Boarding Shields!
So, what's everyone's favorite Forge World?
The mechanicum have potent shooting. This batrep is intense.
Mars.
Void Dragon when?
How about Boarding shields giving a 5++ full time?
This would let Breachers footslog better without making them better than 2+ against bolters.
Xana
That would be the easiest to implement. I would field 5++ breachers.
Ryza because plasma weapons can deal with nearly anything.
Because then they'd just be a counts-as refractor and that's boring.
I like this way better
>What if it boarding shields had a 4+ pseudo-armor save that they rolled for before their actual 3+ but would be ignored by AP 4 and under? They'd still be fucked as everyone else once the Big Guns got a good hit on them, but they'd have an easier time handling the small stuff. Sort of like how FnP or Hardened Armor make units sturdier without actually making them less vulnerable.
How would the rule be worded?
4++ with the ZM RoW.
Ryza. The future is supposed to be chrome.
>>What if it boarding shields had a 4+ pseudo-armor save that they rolled for before their actual 3+ but would be ignored by AP 4 and under?
So, if you shoot at them with a bolter they get to roll a 4+ armour save to protect their 3+ armour save?
Holy shit, user. You would need 18 bolter shots to kill one of those guys, mathematically it would count as termie armour against small weapons, on which case you'd better just give them artificer armour instead.
...
I could see it working like Pariah armour, though: based on the incoming shot's Str rather than its AP. S6 overrides the bonus.
I'd like to thank the Iron Warrior guy for nudging me towards my spiritual liege. I already had my doubts in expectation of Inferno, but mentioning Magnus brought back those memories of reading Index Astartes and CSM 3.5 (the possibilities, never played it because 4th just got out so let's not start it here).
If I manage to get some free time I'll do a test model tomorrow so I'd like to ask for advice if someone can help. I'd like to do a really bright red/orange scheme as I always pictured wizards in flashy colours, so will I be better off if I use Corax White rather than Chaos Black for undercoat?
No problem broanon, too bad I'm extremely now as a hobbyist.
if you want brighter colors, use a lighter base coat. can even base with red if you want red armour
I'll have a go at it
>Boarding Shields
>While not offering the same degree of protection as a true suit of power armor the armor composites used in boarding shields are still tested to the exacting standards of the Legiones Astartes. A unit equipped with Boarding Shields may make a 4+ roll against wounds inflicted by shooting attacks before making whatever armor, cover, or invulnerable save the unit is normally allowed in their circumstance. The boarding shields 4+ roll is otherwise treated as an armor save in every respect, including being bypassed by weapon with an AP value of 4 or less. Note that this roll is separate from a models true armor save and does not benefit from Hardened Armor, Blessings and similar effects. A unit with at least one Boarding Shield counts as having Defensive Grenades. A model armed with a Boarding Shield may never benefit from the extra attack gained for having multiple close combat weapons.
This may come as a surprise to you but not only do the space marine legions have weapons with AP values other then 5 and 2 they actually have fairly easy access to AP 4. So much so that many lists probably have several sources of it despite making no special effort to include it. Off the top of my head we have;
Heavy Bolters, which many legions already have incentive to take due to legion specific ammo (Iron Warriors would have to decide between pinning checks and AP 4 however)
Heavy Flamers, which might be a bit iffy with the rerolls from hardened armor but death guard and sallies would get their usual buffs.
Thrown krak grenades (which would still wound on a 2+)
Kraken rounds
Most of the larger Volkites
Anything choppy (although I have to admit that I was writing the first part of this post before I saw yours so its unfair to call you on it)
>you'd better just give them artificer armour instead.
Except that artificer armor allows them to benefit from the +1 CCW attack and still saves against krak missiles.
You're extremely what as a hobbyist?
Extremely...?
I was thinking Jokaero Orange base, then layering it up with reds until I'm satisfied with the result, but I've read that black basecoat makes for a darker model overall. I'm a beginner at painting, but have both sprays at hand.
New. Typo
That rule looks wonderful. The wording seems on point, I'll have to write it down as a potential direction for boarding shields inhouse.
I was thinking about HFlamers, HBolters, Autocannons and Kheres cannons, but I picked S6 as the defining factor because not only I had already seen it worded as such in the Pariah armour's rules, but I also thought a Heavy Bolter would be no problem to a Boarding shield.
Also, I was talking about artificer armour PLUS the current Boarding shield, but I think I left that out the comment, so apologies for that one.
But Kraken rounds remind me how penetration can be better than punch, so I guess AP4 would be alright.
By the way, you cannot use a krak grenade against infantry.
I cannot believe it: your rule would make the IW's Shrapnel bolts even weaker, as the Boarding Shield would now block the Shrapnel bolt's AP5 more easily.
Even /hhg/'s homebrews shaft IWs!
I just felt like writing up a list extremely quickly for no reason. Definitely needs improvements, but I find it funny for some reason.
Mechanicum Ordo Reductor list
HQ
-Archmagos Reductor, 160
Troops
-x2 Thallax Cohort, 125 (300)
Heavy Support
-x2 Thallax Cohort, 125 (300)
+Icarian, 25 (50)
Total, 150 (300)
760 points
Aw shuchks
>By the way, you cannot use a krak grenade against infantry.
I thought you could have one model use them for shooting? Although I think the combi-grenade launcher would still work in this case.
Given how easy it is to get morale buffs to breacher squads I'd say making boarding shields worthwhile (Iron Without!) is a worthy enough gain that the loss is trivial. Besides, the appropriate IV legion doctrine to use on breacher squads is either ordinance weapons or spewing krak missiles from Tyrant Seige Termies/Iron Havoks
my fanon one, of course
Gonna have to go with Xana. The whole creepy vibe it gets across is very interesting. It's also cool to see peoples theories on why they are so advanced.
The only ones I know about are from the 40k Skitarii codex, so I'll go with Stygies VIII, Metallica, and Ryza.
Graia.
Go Captain Titus
Xana gives me hope that one day the clown at mainline GW might finally realize that there are other kinds of Heretek then warpsmiths.
one day
Guys back with more shitty camerawork.
Finished another Templar Dude, he's still drying from the wash.
Finished two Templar hoes in a day.
Today was a good day.
I hope you meant clowns, there's an entire infestation of them. Mind you, things COULD be getting better now Kirby's out... I think Kirby's gone now, right? I can't really remember, but he was basically the root cause of the issues, the arch-clown if you will
Ryza. Plasma? Who cares? They're ORANGE :^)
youtube.com
Meh, I'll field breachers either way for the land raiders and hardened armor.
>Xana gives me hope that one day the clown at mainline GW might finally realize that there are other kinds of Heretek then warpsmiths.
But don't warpsmiths also make daemon engines? That's all what Xana does, and most of it was Scoria's anyway.
Where my snowflake Reductor/Ordinator/Myrmidax planet at?
Which land raider is most effective as transports for ten man breacher squads?
None of them.
Armored ceramite and a flare shield
Where do you guys play 30k? Just at home with bros? Or have you bought enough Calth boxes to justify playing at an LGS/GW?
What if boarding shields made the unit immune to pinnig
DG & IW already have that.
And IF.
But guys hear me out..: land raiders and sexy models with shields as far as the eye can see...
...
Pls no. You're only going to shaft the IW harder.
That, and what and said.
And Proteus LRs both became cheaper and gained the option for triple twin-linked lascannons.
I know they're not Las Vindis, but at least they don't take FoC slots...
So, there's your excuse for Breachers in "Assault squads: the game"
Land raiders.......
Shields.... Hazard stripes...
Bitterness....
Listen here, you. Do you want to LOOK badass or BE badass? Everything has its price.
Orange and chrome is a patrician tier color combo
...that is a gud thing, right?
What about White and Red? Or Black and Red?
With the new apothecary rules, can i add them to a unit that infiltrates? They're not independent characters, so i don't see why not, but i'd rather not get into a RAW v RAI argument about it the first time i play the new book.
You know what else is orange? Tangelos. Therefor they should interfere with the Harlequins's equilibrium.
Now that I think about it I never thought of a color scheme for the Skitarii of my forge world.
>that Grot
Woah. I just realized that Admech on Ryza is perhaps the only ones in the galaxy capable of beating Harlequins easily, due to their affinity to tangelos, a clown's weakness! It all makes sense now!
Also, Metallica's color scheme is pretty sweet.
Will soon be exterminated. It's only still alive for research purposes, pay no attention to it.
Posing for the Machine God takes precedence anyway.
>Woah. I just realized that Admech on Ryza is perhaps the only ones in the galaxy capable of beating Harlequins easily, due to their affinity to tangelos, a clown's weakness! It all makes sense now!
Have you ever heard of a Harlequin attack on Ryza? Now you know. That color scheme is pretty great.
Why that pose of all things?
OC, and the occasional extracting humor from lore.
>Why that pose of all things?
The Machine God so demands it.
>That color scheme is pretty great
Indeed it is! Though I do prefer Stygies VIII's fluff, in my opinion.
Especially the Xenarites, and their searches into Eldar technology, as well as the fact that the only reason Stygies VIII hasn't been Exterminatus'd yet is because they're too important. Even though the Deathwatch, the Inquisition, and several other Forge World have sent armies against them. Also the little mention of how their colors are so similar to Mar's that they use that to their advantage.
>Implying we are sane
I know, but what is the context of it? What is its story? Why did the Omnissiah choose it?
Now that there is some false flagging.
I try to stay sane. Losing sanity is probably what scares me more than death.
Ah, sanity. The ever fragile blossom we all prefer remain as a bulb lest it blossom into insanity
It's not so much a fear of being insane, it's the fact that insanity's boring and overrated.
>Especially the Xenarites, and their searches into Eldar technology
Remember when xenotech was an abomination that didn't deserve study, but rather oblivion? Pepperidge Forgeworld remembers
>The ever fragile blossom we all prefer remain as a bulb lest it blossom into insanity
I'm lost, Alpharius. It is a blossom or not?
>blossom
double blossom.
Objective nihilism that yields to merit based on perspective. That's how I live life, shit doesn't matter in the macro, in the micro scale its all about who is effected and why.
non physiological insanity is nothing to lose your shit about.
The people with biological issues are worse off.
Is it ever worth leaving home without apothecaries unless you're running a tank list?
>Remember when xenotech was an abomination that didn't deserve study, but rather oblivion? Pepperidge Forgeworld remembers
>That gif
Oh they know. But they're also the #1 Leman Russ and Lasgun producer in the Imperium, as well as some other stuff, iirc. And they have a Titan Legion.
The Xenarites popped up because the Eldar helped slay the two Titan Legions that turned traitor and were attacking during the Heresy. Fortunately the third one stayed loyal.
>Double Blossom
I think I hear the voices too.
Yeah my shitty writing revealed lol.
What would be the best heavy weapon option for the Sniper Vets?
>The people with biological issues are worse off.
Such as mutations?
Heavy Bolter. Lots of shots means a higher chance of AP2, and their steadycam mount allows them to move and shoot.
Heavy Bolter for IF or DA, Heavy Flamer might be nice and Missile Launcher for more anti-tank/MC and you can use the frag missile for more anti-infantry.
1-3 Apothecaries? Always bring them.
4-6 Apothecaries? I'm doubtful but tempted, but then again I play EC.
>make plasma moritat way back
>Gets nerfed into uselessness
>make volkite moritat recently
>Now its worthless too
Fuck me
Im still buying the new model regardless
What is best to put on a contemptor-mortis? I am trying to use it as anti-tank, I currently have 2x TL lascannons but that doesn't benefit from IF's bolter rule.
I made this gif for later use but it describes your situation rather well.
Double lascannon is decent and best at AT, Kheres is generally considered best TaC, Autocannons look cool and are decent AA for pennies, and the HB/MMelta are both mediocre. Just because you get +1 BS doesnt mean its good, and you're already BS5. Stick with your lascannons
with how fucking brutally they nerfed plasma, its actually better for you to not use chainfire, as youll at least get to fire each turn
How much fucking sense does that make
What show is that from?
Hmm, that filename....
What's TaC?
Patreon-financed Star fox animation. Currently one episode only
youtube.com
Say, shouldn't they remove the enhanced Gets hot now that you can only shoot up to 12 times?
Well it was for later use.
Tetrayal at Calth
>That filename
I only feel bitter and hollow.
take-all-comers
What Plasma weaponry does not have Gets Hot!?
I love how Plasma stuff looks, but Gets Hot! just turns me off from it.
What i think they should have done is just made plasma chainfire cause d6 overheats instead of one for how overheated the pistols were getting
But then again i love risk reward shit like that
or make the gets hot from it ignore armour
Shucks, user, that's not a good way to either start your day nor to finish it.
Here, have a look to how a Heavy Flamer heatshot looks like.
Good (k)night /hhg/, lets see if I get to dream about 30k one of these days.
Say, it's up to 12 per pistol or 12 shots TOTAL?
You will have to explain chainfire to me, I am new
>Just because you get +1 BS doesnt mean its good
fair enough
Can anyone chip in on this, or should i get in touch with FW?
Speaking of take all comers, is Ride the Iron fire over powered?
I've been watching some battle reports where the Iron Warriors player pretty much tables the enemy with non scattering pieplates.
basically, a moritat may fire his pistol over and over until he misses (the other pistol continues to fire until it also misses)
Only with phosphex, in my opinion. Phosphex in general is overpowered.
But don't nerf it, please. It's all they have.
>Where my snowflake Reductor/Ordinator/Myrmidax planet at?
They don't have planets. They're nomadic religious monks that happen to worship the art of siegecraft, building huge guns and using those guns to destroy shit.
My friend has decided to play World Eaters.
Do I not bring the heavy pieplate lists?
Maybe I'll go beep boops instead and crush him in melee as well.
So a forge world wouldn't have some of those Cogboys blowing things up in their personal offices?
Hmm, could a technologically inclined Legion operate a forgeworld?
Say Ferrus Manus or Perturabo.
