Infinity General: Make Love Not War Edition

Infinity is a 28mm scale skirmish game by Corvus Belli where there is beauty to be found in all things, no matter how grimdark or weeaboo they may be. Except the Stormsurge. Fuck the Stormsurge.

Are there any good resources out there on how to escalate from the starter sets to a full game? I know that at least Icestorm doesn't even scratch the surface of the rules available.

In what sense do you mean? The full rules are available on the OP link

Or do you mean as it concerns to list expansion?

I mean that jumping from where Icestorm leaves you to the full set of rules, especially for someone interested in a faction not represented in that starter, is a bit much.

Enchanted Grounds has a group for the south people but I don't know much about them. Up north in Louisville is a pretty large group that plays every Monday at Funtastic Games. Total Escape also has a group but they're pretty small and newer to the game. Hexagon Mill in Denver is owned by Dexter, I don't know if too many people play there regularly except for tournaments. Sadly almost all of the coordination in Colorado goes through the Colorado Infinity facebook group, only thing I use it for. We have a pretty good community and a lot of really strong players if you're into tournaments.

What faction?

Aleph. I like the look of Achilles and Machaon...

Do you like the look of vanilla ALEPH too, or just SP

So far, my main exposure to Vanilla Aleph has been their starter, which...Didn't impress me. I own the starter, because of a mix-up among a few of my friends, though. I haven't seen anything I liked, but I guess I haven't really sat down and looked?

The starter is old and ugly, they've had better models come out since (though all the recent releases have been Greek). Great infiltrators, posthumans and lots of MSV are the main points of appeal of vanilla over SP.

You can play both. Most vanilla lists have Greeks in them.

infinitythegame.com/catalogue/a-l-e-p-h.html

I'm aware of my options. The point is to escalate from Icestorm into proper games without getting overwhelmed by the glut of new rules, which I'm not sure how this is helping?

I know what you mean, and I think it's warcors and shop owners that usually run some sort of "escalation leagues" or similar rules-teaching events.

The way to learn is really just to slowly expand your horizons with more units and their respective rules. Then after you've got a handle on things start doing some of the more complicated ITS stuff.

The only really complex things in ALEPH are posthumans.

That's unfortunately not a good plan right now. As of right now, there are 3-4 people who play in the area - myself, a friend who bought Icestorm, and two others who also bought Icestorm but haven't actually learned yet. A league is not currently feasible.

It might be easiest just to sit yourself down, look at the rules (or even the wiki), and start going through everything in an orderly and systematic way.

Move through basic rules, advanced rules, and then look at models that interest you, and look up individual or special rules they have that you want to learn more about.

Save hacking for the end, as that's a beast all on its own.

Then, start with simpler Aleph units, and work your way up in escalation league. You don't have to remember everything you read through like you're the Rainman, but you at least touched upon it, and you'll have some familiarity with it when you goto play. The more you play and use the rules, the more they will engrain themselvea in your memory.

>user post about slowly learning the game

>i have less than 10 games under my belt and are getting dragged to an ITS event

Oh user, i envy you. It doesnt help that our meta exploded, and the competition is pretty cutthroat.

Time to pay to get my ass handed to me

>Except the Stormsurge. Fuck the Stormsurge.
> one of the best 40k model
>fuck
pleb, please.

It looks like an amputee Riptide and IIRC fights like one too.

you have spectacularly shit taste, and probably unironically like the old maghariba guard
nah it's overpowered as shit, kills anything and everything as long as it has a few markerlight tokens to use

Huh, there was a "knight killer" Tau bot that came out a while ago that was awful. Is that the same thing and it was wrongly interpreted back then?

That's good ok' Missile Tits. People though the Knight Killer title was wrong because of their missiles being normal seekers. Until they saw the rule book and realized their Strength D seekers if fired with a markerlight.

Fuck Autocorrect is changing words even when I type them correctly.
Good ol'
They're
Fuck you Apple.

>It looks like an amputee Riptide
So tau finally get less-anime model, which means it's better.

>Strength D seekers if fired with a markerlight
Okay, I know battles in 40k are supposed to be ridiculous, but come on. Though at least those are not jetbike strength D weapons.

Thrasymedes x Lupe romance novel when?

It's fine. Latest Errata made it so if you deploy it and fire twice like what you paid 300 points for and you get tank shocked, it auto dies because lol can't move while anchored.

If a tank gets close enough to that thing to tank shock without getting killed, you deserve to lose it.

More importantly, Thrasymedes x Lupe hentai doujin when?

All in due time, bro.

Neema + Aelis x horny squad of Morats -doujin when?

>hentai doujin of every Dire Foes pack
>Flee Or Die

>Train Rescue: Threesome
>Fleeting Alliance: Actual romance
>Dark Mist: Yuri
>Flee or Die: Yaoi
>Viral Outbreak: Alien boning
Sounds like a fine idea to me. None of them would be too samey.

Morats baby

Anyone else like war monkeys?

Also suggestions for building onto the list?

>Also suggestions for building onto the list?
What stuff you got?

>Train Rescue
>Angus is tied up and blindfolded through the whole thing
>he has no idea a Morat was banging him

Right now just the aggression starter box and nomads starter for me and my fiance so it's pretty bare bones right now

Also, quick question. What are the diee foes packs? I've seen them but im not 100% clear on them. Like are they stand alone story packs with hero characters, or do they add extra stuff like objectives and people of interest to a normal fight?

>dire

Dumb hands

- named characters for 2 factions, usually worth it as a core link upgrade or so
- civvie in case you don't have a HTV yet
- scenario and some fluff on the characters (code for PDF, copies were floating around here anyway)

Okay, first things you're probably going to need are Hungries and/or Daturazi. Daturazi are incredibly good warbands that can throw smoke grenades to cover their advance, and Hungries are dirt cheap and can link with the starter Oznat to provide orders for your army. A remote box and doctor worm are both good investments as well.

If you want a deadlier link team then Yaogats and Rodoks are good choices. The HMG Sogarat or Suryat can work as a solo heavy hitter. Only buy the Vanguard SWC box if you can get your hands on Anyat, she's an important part of any good Vanguard link.

I'd avoid the Raicho in most cases, and you're never going to need more than one Oznat or Raktorak (you won't need any Raktorak unless you're using Suryats). Zerats are fucking abysmal, but they're the only infiltrator you have so you might end up wanting them anyway.

Commissar Yarric looks a lot more touchy-feely than I remember.

He's a nice old chap, once you get to know him and you are not an enemy of man or a guardsman.

>not an enemy of man or a guardsman.
>Space Marines
>Emperor
Pretty limited target audience there.
Keeping it infinity related:

...

Awesome. Thanks for the help mates.

Another question, What type of paints do you use on infinity models? And by that I mean brand, like gw, p3 etc and what colors would work best?

Nomad and Morat armies if you care, but I'm just wondering in general.

Where can I find tournament lists? Looking for Corregidor and vanilla Nomads in particular.

>and probably unironically like the old maghariba guard
Why? Maghariba was animeshit so as most of CB models. while in 7 edition of 40k GW finally find a way to make tau less anime.

Hey, old maggie was a big girl, but she had her charm

Would I then need to make the sniper Ghulam my Lt?

No. Only HMG, ML and basic rifle Ghulams can be your starting Lt. Just have a couple of riflemen and make one the Lt.

Are you planning on making the Ghulams a link team? Because otherwise I'd recommend playing vanilla Haqq for your first few games. Links can be pretty OP at such a low point level anyway, I'd avoid them if you're just learning the game.

Yeah, don't do links until game 3-4.

I wasn't planning on messing around with link teams just yet. I'm loading up on Ghulam because I didn't want to deal with the irregular Daylami while also gaining some more orders

Daturazi
Sogarat
Rodok
Drones
Kornak

That should get you to 300.

I use p3, I find citadel super chalky.

There aren't really tournament lists like you would find in other games.

There are synegies, but these are usually obvious, like MSV+smoke.

What occurs on the table is much more important than your list as long as it is competent (10-16 orders, specialists, etc).

Hey Veeky Forums, my friend got the Icestorm box, and he's selling me the Nomad models, since he doesn't really have a use for them.

IYHO, would it be worth getting the Nomad support pack, or just focus on picking up the interventors instead? Also, what's a good Nomad remote for a beginner?

Thanks.

Support pack is good, but Interventors are more important. The normal Zonds are the most versatile, but all the others are really great too.

I used oldGW(hex-pots), newGW, Reaper, Vallejo (game/model/air), Army Painter and P3. In my experience they're comparable quality except:
- newGW is both worse and overpriced
- p3 metallics are utter shit (the rest is good)
- AP washes are great shortcuts for tabletop-level stuff (don't use their quickshade stains tho, it doesn't look good on Infinity stuff)
- Vallejo model air metallics are awesome. Especially Steel which is so strong you can mix it and get great colored metallics.
- Reaper is slightly better for blending/glazing than Vallejo, but likes to reactivate when washed unless you give it a few hours to dry.

You mean netlists? No such thing except as concepts everyone tweaks their way anyway. Tactics are king. To get you started, have some good options/building blocks:
- Intruder LT
- Intruder HMG
- chain Jaguars (smoke screens for above)
- Wildcat haris: haris+engineer+HRL/spitfire
- Alguacil core: HMG+sniper+3x FO (for the flash pulse AROs and as backup specialists)
- Bandit killer hacker
- Moran FO
(you'll want 2 infiltrating specialists btw)
- Tomcat engineer or doctor
- Warcor aerocam
- Zond (assemble as reaction+sensor)

There's lots more, it's way less about a unit being good/bad than what you use it for. For a 300pt ITS tournament list, you'll want:
- regular orders (at least 1 full combat group, if you can get to 15-16 all the better)
- specialists (read ITS scenarios) - 2 infiltrating, 1-2 infiltrating or AD, maybe some plain walking ones in case sth goes wrong. Remember that classifieds give points so you'll want several types, e.g. doctor + hacker + FO.
- to be able to point at any single unit/link on your list and say what's their role in the army. Main attacker? Secondary attacker? Fire support? Harasser/terrorist? VIP killer? Mission specialist? DZ defense? Sure, the plan changes on the fly, but you want to know where your arms and legs are. :v

So intruder and jaguars? What I thought, thanks.
I've noticed watching battles that several "trap" options in the same list like iguanas or hellcats leave you starved for orders. Also that specialists and regular infantry are always superior to a heavily armed and armored figure that can be one shotted.
Any more advice you can give me, such as how to expand from the starter?

Iguanas and hellcats are very good, but they're order hogs so if there are any more of those than 2 in a full combat group they might starve as you noticed.

Also, my post above:
was for pure Corregidor, I haven't played vanilla Nomads in ages so can't really give advice.

Which starter have you got? The vanilla/Icestorm one, or the Corregidor box?

@vanilla:
Bandit, Zero (hacker and FO), Custodier with pitcher (or Interventor with panda), Bran do Castro, furries, morlocks, and most of the above Corregidor stuff (disregard links obv)

New P3 metallics aren't too bad. They have a black lable instead of the standard white one. That said, Pig Iron is the only one I really ever use.

The old formula really was absolute dogshit, though.

I've heard merry listing with Infinity doesn't work. More so, just pick the models you think look cool; there really aren't any "auto-include" models in Infinity. Yes?

Also, when you say regular Zond, I'm assuming you mean the Salyut?

If you give a Hellcat a combi then they can become a highly annoying supp fire platform without taking too many orders.

More like pigshit.

Fucking autocorrect. "merry" = "net"

I honestly have no idea how it could fuck that up.

Nope, plain Zonds, namely Reaktion and Stempler. The Vertigo variant can be a fun gimmick with hacker-spotlighting a target through Pitcher repeaters and bombing the shit out of it.

True. I like to take a hacker for the additional flexibility, but muh precous SWC

No real autoincludes, but you'll want some units that can fulfil particular functions.

Nope. There's another box of models that are just called zonds.

Transductors are fun too, they're quite versatile for their price.

>hacker-spotlighting a target
Maybe if you want to piss away orders on a garbage program. Get some good FOs in there for your targeting duties.

As for netlisting: there are good and bad lists, but unless you understand what makes a netlist good and how to use its strengths it's gonna be much worse in your hands, very possibly worse than a "suboptimal" list that you made yourself and are familiar with.

And if you ever run a netlist against its author... well I hope you got lots of lube.

I got the corregior box, thinking about getting the vanilla one too, for the unpronouncables.

There aren't really auto includes but there are models that are so good that if you aren't taking them I'd probably ask you why the hell not. For vanilla/Corregidor that is definitely the Intruder.

You mean the Al-gwa-seels?

IMO the only autoincludes in the game are Ghazi and Posthumans.

si

Personally I'm of the opinion that there's ample middle ground between, "follow this list and you'll win" and, "pick whatever you like". Certainly, picking net lists that don't fit your play style is a bad idea, and you do want to pick models that you like (WAAC is generally a terrible mentality).

However, there are, as with any rule-set, certain options that are more efficient or optimal than others.

For instance, the Guilang is often an almost auto-include in vanilla YJ lists, due to relatively low cost, MSV1, decent special skills (camo + infiltration), mines, and good equipment option (FO + deployable repeater) that, most importantly, provides good synergy with other units (particularly a Daofei AHD or Kanren KHD).

It's not flashy or intimidating like a HI might be. It's shit at shooting (BS11, 1 ARM, 0 BTS on a 27 point unit?). But it's important because it allows other units to do their jobs more easily.

You can certainly do without it, but it's fairly flexible and does lots of nice things.

Remember that other infiltrators also tend to suck at shooting (and are vulnerable to MSV) and they're the ones that will be near your Guilang most of the time, so they're occasionally useful for camo hunting as well.

I'd go further and say there are clusters of models of which you really should be pickking one option. If you aren't taking Intruders what the fuck is your plan for the most notorious metagame bully, Ariadna token spam?

If the answer is template spam, Grrls, or yourself maxxing out camo then fine. Otherwise, you can be in real trouble.

The fuck you say, Fat Maggie is one of the main reasons I play Haqq.

Don't forget sensorspam. It can shut down camo lists pretty hard if you set up your sniffers right.

I only ask about the "auto-include" because my budget for Infinity is REALLY tight, and I want to make sure I'll get good mileage out of the models I get.

You forgot Ikadrons.

Get an intruder sniper and never leave home without it.

Fucking love that guy

Mine has killed every single model he has ever shot at

You've inspired me to make a list and keep playing until I've killed every model in the game with the intruder.

Thats the spirit!

This is my problem with taking units like Intruders & Fidays. They're so overwhelmingly common in lists it begins to feel like Nomads are that faction with Intruders, and that Haqqislam are that faction with Fidays.

I went to a tourney about this time last year with an (in my experience) unusually high proportion of vanilla Haqq players- 7 including myself, in a 20 man tourney. I was the only vanilla Haqq player to not take a Fiday. Every time I play against vanilla Haqq (with I think one exception), I've played against Fiday. Shit gets boring when the same unit gets taken over & over.

/rant

It's worse when you only have one other infinity opponent in your area

Just wondering am I turbo Hitler for cramming 3 Lasiqs into my lists for firelane control? I mean it's 75 points I could put into a lot of other things but I'm addicted to those big titty snipers

Also, how does Veeky Forums feel about using proxies? I figured a lot of people would be doing that with the starter box.

In my area it's a lot more common to throw them in a link and switch them to viral rifles, march them up the board then break link and throw into suppression.

The golden rule, your lord and master, is "you proxy it, you make sure that the opponent knows and remembers what it is, even if he asks every five minutes".

As long as you do that, the community is quite lenient. Unless your whole army's some convoluted structure of proxies or something, you shouldn't have problems. If in doubt, just ask when arranging a game.

Also, make sure the proxies' silhouette sizes match. Using a palbot for an Avatar will give you dirty looks and little more.

In all my experience proxies are totally fine as long as they're the same silhouette. I don't even ask in casual games. In a tourney I'd make sure it's cool with my opponent first.

Brand new to infinity reporting in, got to play around with icestorm with some friends and I'm ready to take the plunge. I like the look of the Tohaa, so I came up with a list of their miniatures I like the most. Would it be possible to jam them all into a list?

Aelis Keesan
Kaeltars
Kerail
Kosuil
Kotail (Especially the spitfire pose)
Nikoul
Rasails
Neema
Igao

Is it even needed to buy the starter box?

Sensors are the best thing ever.

They are good, but I sometimes leave them on the shelf if no hacker or G:Menomica.

I take them with the non sniper variant because that suppression is too good

A lot of units are designed for the Triad rule. You have there 4 units with the trait, so one will be left out. It's not terminal to live that way, but a bit weird. You have also managed to pick the one and only weak Tohaa unit (Igao).

More serious is that you'll have only one Triad, and it'll have to do all the objective grabbing, since your other units are mostly fighters. Plus, having neither MSV nor Eclipse grenades is missing some very handy tools. On a more upbeat note, no need for the starter models if you don't like em.

Either build up a second Triad and divide specialists between them or swap some of those killy non Triad things for objective grabbing solo units like Clipsos, GaoTarsos, Taquel, FO Kotail.

HMG > sniper.

I always feel bad for these guys, I try to be pleasant and make the game as fun as possible, but because of the nature of the scoring system I still have to try to 10-0 you, which seriously limits the fun.

Sniper + msv >>> HMG + tr

Newbie getting thrown into the fire here, i honestly dont blame you, hell i might enjoy the asswhoop if you arent a dick about it.

Im just a bit weary tho, specially of our meta. I had the misfortune of facing link teams in a "newbie" league before, so i know the kinda dickbags im facing

>are getting dragged to an ITS event
How does this happen? Can't you say no to participating in the tournament?
