So how does the new summoning rule effect that one ability the Lord Celestant Prime gets when he can put a unit down after his comet strike ability?
Ethan Williams
(You) >GW realizes they're a minis company, not a rulebooks company. >Get advice on the rules. >Rules are free, and digital. >If something is broken they can quickly patch it, and not have to worry about people bitching that they paid for a book that isn't any good anymore.
Amazing.

So I am interested in getting into AoS. I already play 40k, but some kids that live near by just bought the starter set for AoS. I am thinking of just buying a get started box for an army. I just play 40k for fluff and fun. I am by no means a competitive player. I like the looks of lizardmen/seraphon, but my question is are they fun? I want to play a fun army.
Cameron Adams
woops didn't mean to make that a reply to OP, sorry
Isaac King
I try to, but deez dang dinos keep cummin' aftah us... deyz smash reel gud but den dey explode wiff no lucky bonez for da boyz!
Charles Evans
How is a Daemon Prince in AoS?
Jacob Torres
Depends on what kind of army you like. I've heard the Lizardmen are quite solid so if the idea of giant dinosaurs eating people and firing lasers at their enemies sounds fun then you'll probably like them.
Xavier Carter
>>General's Handbook >This is going on the website too?
Nope, warhammer world scenarios detail that you need to buy the general's handbook to get the points, but it's $25 softcover book with like 10 scenarios and rules for path to glory.
Aaron Ramirez
op
Christopher Diaz
The celestant prime doesn't have an ability that let's him put down a unit.
If you're talking about something from a battalion you'd have to actually post that cause I'm sure as hell not gonna look through all the books in hopes of finding it.
Michael Baker
woefully inept
I think that the unmarked one is the best because it heals, but they're good fun. They're not a supreme beatstick that can table an entire army like in 40k (assuming your dp gets into cc with something shooty) but the dp in aos is a middle ground fearsome shock troop.
Easton Bailey
Nice meme image, but for real, are they any good? I've wanted to convert up the kit but I hate when I buy for looks and it under preforms dramatically.
Caleb Allen
if you like your guys being good at stuff, then yes, Seraphon has a nice Start Collecting Box, you could even buy 2 if you want to run a Skink & Troglodon alongside the Carnosaur.
Guys, which Artefact should I give to a Grimwrath Berzerker? His Greataxe is 1" A.4, 3+/3+, R-1, D3 Damage
& if I roll under the number of Wounds he just did, he can Pile-in & attack again, so Obstinate B. for Rend -2, or Relic B. for D3+1 Damage?
The FG General on Griffon will have a Quicksilver Potion . . .
Jack Martin
lizardmen are good, skinks are a trap, lizardmen are without a doubt the most top tier cheesey faction you can run.
but if you're not doing anything cheesey with them they're solid and dependable, they can take a beating and keep on licking.
Don't build a troglodon unless you're a glutton for punishment.
It's worth noting that the start collecting seraphon contains the most free stuff out of any of the boxes (with the new start collecting ironjawz coming in at a close second)
Andrew Myers
Here it is should have mentioned it was part of a battalion
Carter Edwards
What weapon would you give it?
William Evans
It under performs but not dramatically.
Think of it as an elite shock unit, not a centerpiece.
Evan Hughes
Everyone I've played with has fun. As-in they're actually saying, "Goddamn this game is FUN." Still a little buggy here and there, but it's new, so we let it slide for now.
The competition is wrapped entirely in deployment and movement on the 1st turn. Then everyone smashes together, even if you're not into toe-to-toe fighting, you better have at least one unit that's good at it.
Cooper Nguyen
So it would work well as a tag team partner for a Greater Daemon or a Chimera or something?
Juan Flores
>you could even buy 2 if you want to run a Skink & Troglodon alongside the Carnosaur.
run two carnosaurs, one with an oldblood, one with a scar veteran
I've got two, one with a sword, one with an axe.
My axe never hits and my sword never kills them because they make their save.
Rend is one of the most important stats in the game.
Khorne giving you +1 to hit makes axes really good.
Mathematically the axe is better but sometimes you just want to roll threes instead of fours.
Gabriel Nguyen
I was going to shove him into a Bloodbound list anyway, so .. Khornate with an axe?
Christopher Sullivan
First of all, that battalion doesn't have a point cost in the GH so it's currently not legal to be fielded in a pitched battle anyway.
If it does get a point cost or you houserule one it would still fall under the same restrictions as other summoning. Meaning you'd need to keep some points in reserve to pay for the unit the celestant prime summons.
Cooper Campbell
Greater demons are good, chimeras idk, haven't seen one
Like skarbrand is a big beefy BAMF and you push him into something and it dies, but then something is probably going to be pushed into him that leaves skarbrand dead.
Demon princes can be pushed into any non elite infantry that's not cheesed up with a ridiculous save and you'll probably delete it.
Khornate with an axe and plant that banner and watch him reap skulls my friend. Remember that he makes an extra attack with his talon as well as his axe.
Ryan Diaz
damn, oh well I see the skyborne slayers have one so I'll just use that for now
Lucas Garcia
If he wants to set up a new unit it falls under the summoning rules and thus needs reserve points. Recycling a unit destroyed earlier is fair game though, I'm pretty sure.
Kevin Wright
faq says you're allowed to re-use models as new units
so it's all kosher friendo
Ethan Lee
Seraphon are the go-to WAAC army and are able to field some of the most broken shit in the game. Before the generals handbook every single sera player abused the fact that they could summon all their shit several times per turn and made for some completely anti-fun lists while feeling awfully smug about it. So yes, there is quite a stigma to playing them.
Dominic Barnes
good to know, can someone post the summoning rules again so I can get a good read on it

I listened to the Heelenhammer podcast the other day. The two episodes I listened two basically boiled down to "Well, we worked with GW on this book, we won't spoil anything" or "asking this is dumb. We know the answer because, we worked with GW, but we won't tell!"
Jeremiah King
If we smash 'em now dey'll send more to look to see if dey was smashed!

More accurately, here it is vs 4+ armor saves with no Rend ignoring gimmicks. The difference is almost negligible.
Aiden Foster
Thank you guys for the feedback. I will probably go with the get started box, a box of saurus warriors, and a skink starpriest because i like the model. Would that be WAAC, or fine?
Jordan Morgan
>As with Fyreslayers look for a handful of new kits accompanied by a large set of round based repacks of the renamed Dispossessed.

>Tundra Beasts >The various boars have Move 11".
>Icy weapons >Monsters hurt in melee by anything from this warclan can only pile-in and attack after everything else on the table has done so.
>New Artefact - Icebone Skull >The model with this halves all damage taken, rounding down (!!!). In addition, it regains one wound during each of your hero phases.
How do you guys feel about one hero being invulnerable to 90% of the weapons in the game and being a bitch to kill with the remaining 10%?
Isaiah Jenkins
>Chaos is by far the most WAAC since you can take jezzails, and spam summon shit.
Maybe in your meta, but most people online complained about shit like unkillable Guard, chameleon skin summon spam (proxies of course!) Bastiladon and Ripperdactyls literally attacking until they have 100+ attacks.
Jezzails became only really broken with the GH since the Chaos player can get the +1 to hit trait, while at the same time making them cost 560 points for 12.
Jordan Cox
Does the last part work on Mortal Wounds?
Carter Anderson
>Chaos player
Don't put those furries in the same bed as the rest of us.
Besides, most people i've seen picking up or still playing Skaven in AoS, stick purely to Skaven.
Adrian Myers
>Would that be WAAC, or fine?
If you play by the Handbook you are fine, don't worry. Just be aware that Seras are really easy to WAAC with when playing just by the 4 pages. And even then it isn't anything bad if people around you play like this. Just don't guard deathstar the poor guy who got his Bloodbound starter painted and just wants to have a nice game.
Julian Martinez

I can't figure out what to cut for my Goblin alliance list. I figure I should just bail on the battlaionsince it opens up a good chunk of points, but the Great Moonclan seems really good.
1x Night Goblin Warboss - 80 1x Night Goblin Shaman - 60 1x 40 man Night Goblin w/ bows - 240 2x 40 man Night Goblin w/ spears and shield - 480 3x 3 man Grot Fanatics - 270 2x Doom Diver Catapult - 240 2x Grot Rock Lobba - 200 1x Arachnarok Spider - 280 1x Grot Squig Hoppers - 80
Great Moonclan - 80

Kayden Parker
Considering it can only be one of the bonesplitterz ones it's not too bad.
Also, it depends pretty heavily how you reduce the damage exactly. Do you halve and round down every single source or the whole damage he would get from a unit? So if he eats 20 arrow that all deal 1 damage does he just not take damage or 10?
David Jackson
dude when I play chaos I've got beastmen, slaves, skaven, bloodbound
just fuck my shit up senpai, I like a big pile of chaos
Colton Turner
Sorry that's 2010/2000. I need to cut and adjust.
Aiden Thomas
how are you giving jezzails +1 to hit?

And yes, that means they put out 2 mortals on 5+ at the hit.
Cameron Moore
>If you're talking about something from a battalion you'd have to actually post that cause I'm sure as hell not gonna look through all the books in hopes of finding it. This is such a good point.
I tried AoS when it first came out, but didn't like it. No big deal, my friends and I moved on with our lives maturely, no hating or anything, I just didn't play the game.
Now my friends have asked me to give it another go. "Fair enough" I figure, I've got the models already and it's changed majorly with the new General's Handbook, so I might as well give it another go with the updated ruleset.
>Holy Shit it's only been a year and there's over 20 fucking rulebooks to read through to work out what everything is and does and what I can take and what my opponent can take and we're not even talking unusual tactics just basic possibilities and all of the books cost money or have to be pirated and virtually all battalions and battleplans and wargear and campaigns exist only in these books only basic models have free-and-easy-to-download rules I'm not even compaining about shit like now bases now count again or anything I just mean - only one year on - how is this supposed to be less intimidating to start than Warhammer Fantasy was?
Benjamin Hill
I own Slaves, Bloodbound, Beastmen, Slaanesh and Tzeentch daemons. But I can't bring myself to do Skaven. Not big on the wacky grimdark science. I'd prefer sneaky Skaven but those gutter runner models are hideous.
Elijah Clark
meh, i'd still rather take models I like than the ugly overpriced Jezzails
Cooper Perez
don't halving effects come after the whole pool is rolled? so you roll a unit's attacks all together (hit, then wound, then saves, then multiply then special saves) and then what's left over is halved?
Charles King
>how is this supposed to be less intimidating to start than Warhammer Fantasy was?
I can buy one box of dudes and can play. The battallions and special warplans in the Campaign books are not meant for Matched play, a.k.a. points anyways. It is only those in the Battletomes and most of them are not gamebreaking shit like the space marine thing that gives you transports for free and makes everything ObSec. But I do agree that GW really needs to watch this and not have a blatant powercreep.
Gabriel Lewis
>how is this supposed to be less intimidating to start than Warhammer Fantasy was?
because casuals can stick to the 4 page rules, or buy one book and play all of its scenarios to completion, or get ones online, or get ones they host in official GW stores, like the current one for Season of War that requires basic bitch 10-man units with a constant influx of reinforcements of that same unit to hold down quadrants until turn 5.
Michael Bell
I have bought a Silver Tower, also have a box of chaos warriors, chaos knights and warhounds. Is it enough to start a Tzeentch army? What else should I purchase to have a working list?
Brayden Rivera
What happens if a human mortal worships the Great Horned Rat? I mean, he is a Chaos god now.
Gavin King
>invulnerable to 90% of the weapons in the game
We discussed about wound ignoring(50%) abilities before, 1st thing 1st, according to core rule attacks and inflicting damage work like this:
1. Hit Roll 2. Wound Roll 3. Save Roll 4. Determine Damage 5. Inflicting Damage 6. Wound ignoring ability kick in
In case of Icebone Skull, it will ignore a single mortal wound, but 10(11) damage by grot archers still inflict 5 wound.
Actually, it have been faq'ed, and a blog explained this shit already, if anyone can link it, I will put it in pastebin too.
Juan Williams
Fuck you and fuck your model.
Hunter Thompson
Really? There's one 4 page rule book and then the generals handbook for points and scenarios.
That's TWO. What exactly are you complaining about here?
Dominic Smith
Horned Rat literally doesn't fit the Chaos pantheon.
>stands for no human emotion >has its own race of worshippers, no need for humans >couldn't give a shit about the great game, just wants its children to rule the world and not destroy it like the other 3 faggots
Sebastian Hughes
Dont forget how every single unit in the game has some special ability
Aiden Diaz
Nope that looks good. If you want to later, expand on it with some Screamers or a Lord of Change. A Sorcerer Lord or Sorcerer Lord on a Manticore is also a good investment, Daemonic Power can get a lot of work out of Chaos Warriors and Knights.
I like the Chosen models and i'm not poor, I just wasn't expecting them to be $90 for the whole shebang.
Play Seraphon or Sylvaneth. Or really anyone, I mostly run Brayherds and they are made of paper with laughable damage output even when you do manage to stack everything up with their Battalion bonuses.
Jason Cox
Sorry, I meant to ask this guy: On how to convert Chosen. You'd think they'd be cheap on Ebay though.
Andrew Morales
I am getting sick of you. The Horned Rat is a Chaos God empowered by the emotion and desires of the Skaven. He was just a minor god and not a part of the main Chaos Pantheon for the longest time but his symbol was on the Alter of Ultimate Darkness which suppose to show all the Chaos entities alongside the Big Four. All the beings in the Great game of Chaos. Yes, you idiot, the Horned Rat is part of the Great Game. The Great Game is about taking control of the Multiverse. The fact that he managed to reach the main pantheon despite being a singular racial while his peer draw upon all races shows how much powerful he has become.
Furthermore, The Horned Rat is a spawn of Nurgle and Tzeentch with the implication that he created his own race in his own image.
Finally, you say he doesn't want to destroy? What about the parts of him that are about ENTROPY AND DECAY. His own Realm is called the Realm of Ruin which is populated by the ruins and corpses of civilizations that were destroyed by the Skaven. Heck, how did you miss the 13 Plagues and Pestilens quest to unleash them on the multiverse which will result in the Great Horned Rat embracing his aspect of the Great Witherer and all creation and all races except the Skaven being destroyed.
Adam Walker
90$ for 640 points of models isn't that bad.
Daniel Rodriguez
>I like the chosen models
Eh, they're ok. Pic related is definitely the best of the bunch but nearing $10 a model is a lot
warriors of chaos, turn their weapons sideways, chop the weapon bits off one hand so they're holding it.
bam, warriors with great weapons.
make 'em fancy looking and they're chosen.
glue skulls and other dumb bits to them if you want.
they even have cool capes.
Joseph Walker
as a side note, make sure they all have great axes since that's what chosen use, and if your store/opponents are cunts make sure you use a couple spare axeheads to make 'em extra killy so they're definitely chosen
Chase Stewart
If you really want to get fancy you could use plasticard to make big axe heads, or even greenstuff.
Jackson Hernandez
Under absolute ideal circumstances for the Brayherd, a unit of 20 Gors in the Furious Brayherd formation, while within 8" of a Beastlord and Great Bray-Shaman, 16" of the Wargor Standard Bearer using his Beast Banner, and while Gorthor the Beastlord is using his Command Ability, you could do >pic related for average damage. Or basically, 3+ to hit (re-roll 1's), 2+ to wound (re-roll 1's) on 30 attacks - i'm assuming only ten Gors will reliably make it into melee contact. If you were able to get all 20 engaged that would be 60 attacks.
Of course, being mindful of the positioning required, means your generic Beastlord and Bray Shaman are dragging behind them like a ball and chain as Gors can run and charge with their Brayhorns, normally this will put them out of the bonus range for Furious Brayherd in my personal experience.
I've never been able to get more than 10 models engaged on a multi-unit engaging charge, even with the Pile In providing an additional 3", so 30 attacks is a good rough estimate too. I also don't like moving big blobs of 20+ Gors at a time, though in MSU they tend to evaporate too quickly.
Jace Jackson
>I can buy one box of dudes and can play People who've been playing for a year now are now board small battles using the 4-page rules and only seem to want to play 2000+ point games including battalions and all of the bits & pieces from General's Handbook.
Maybe that's just my local area. But the "old guard" (even though we're only talking a year) seem far more entrenched into "keep up with us if you want to play (without getting stomped)" mentality than the WFB dudes ever were (none of my friends even played WFB in the first place!)
>because casuals can stick to the 4 page rules But I don't want to be a Casual! New is not the same as Casual. I want to play on the same level as the person I'm playing with. Sure I won't be as good when I'm new - that's just experience - but that doesn't mean I want to approach it as a Casual, nor remain a Casual after I get experience (if I choose to keep playing). I want Battalions and Wargear and structure and anything else my friends want, because they're who I'll be playing against.
That doesn't mean I'm hardcore or that I want to be hardcore either; I just don't want to go to the level of "throw a bunch of models on the table and see how many 4+s I can roll", and I'd like to know what I'm getting in for beforehand instead of showing up with an army and someone saying "Cool, big dude here instagibs half your models right away because they have the Mortal keyword" or some shit (I have no idea if this can happen; I want to read the rules so I know whether or not it can!)
>There's one 4 page rule book and then the generals handbook for points and scenarios. In addition to all the unit PDFs, there's at least 12 Battletomes, 4 Realmgate Wars books, 4 Grand Alliance books, plus the General's Compendium, plus the core rules, plus a dozen other little books/sheets like the ones that come with Start Collecting! boxes or were downloadable from the Black Library advent calendar or whatever. In one year!
Carson Mitchell
you can use Gorthor as the beastlord in the brayherd formation, faq says so, you don't need a generic goat
Angel Ortiz

you have 1" reach, you can fight over one friendly base, you can get two ranks to fight
Xavier Reed
Shame their models are so old though. The concept is super cool and they have always offered some very good gameplay benefits, even in 8th
John Gray
Chaos Warriors leave something to be desired when I realize how lazy the engineering on their 'cool cape' is.
It means all of the models have their arms bent at the elbow and fairly neutral leg stance, meaning their poses are very stiff and there is little variety you can add to that. GW does a great job of disguising it by showing them with shields and static grass usually covering one foot.
Noah King
>chaos wins the great game in the old world >turns everything to nothingness >fucking slannesh of all people realizes that that is a bad thing since there are no orgies to be had in nothingness >squash everything, chaos gods move on >meanwhile Horned Rat moves its children's capital into the warp because it literally needs something to be around
Also, why does my oppinion trigger you that hard? I know Veeky Forums is full socially inept grognards, but man, take a chill pill.
James Mitchell
Only on square bases, or under questionable modelling practices where the Gor is right on the edge of his base with an outstretched arm. That alone, the amount of model collision problems such behavior would cause, already nauseates me. I'd want to slap the person doing it especially if it meant they mashed their models into mine during play. I did not spend all this money and time for some dumbass to scratch my models over a slight advantage and abuse of the clearly retarded 'measure from model' rule.
Blake Morgan
Gor don't fit on small circle bases, you need the new Space Marine ones. Unless you play measuring from model to model, then you can stack a lot more in that 1".
Chase Morales
>everyone at my local GW measures from base out of habit
>no one ever questions it
>FLGS is full of people rebasing their models right on the edge of the base with weapons poking out, they don't weigh the bases down either so their models are always falling over, and they bitch up a storm when you suggest measuring from the base
Why am I suddenly finding a refuge of sanity in fucking GW stores of all places
Hudson Ward
>you need the new Space Marine ones
>new space marine ones
>not calling it 32mm bases
what the fuck is wrong with you
Michael Smith
>tfw you model as best you can so your figure doesn't extend past the front of the base, then measuring from the base or the model doesn't matter
