But anyways, getting back into malifaux after a long break. Was thinking of sticking with raspy for a while. So far I've just got the box set. Is the essence of power worth it, or will I just be sticking with the wendigo more often than not?

Wendigo is great, i don't know why you would ever not take it.
You really need Silent Ones and December Acolytes for true raspy goodness. Blessed of December is also thematic but less needed and Snow Storm is amazing!
