Fukka you! Pranet berong to Yang! Human rights irrusion! Get nerve stapurr, ten mirrion year in spheres!

YANG / ZAKHAROV 2020

I mostly play peacekeepers or university.

...

Cybernetic Consciousness motherfucker.

>They won't dissent

trudat.

by the end-game, Miriam has become the rational one.

And I play like 95% UoP when I play Alpha Centauri.

>Play Gaians.
>Boreholes on every tile.
>Tame all the mindworms.
>Release them all on any who dares declare vendetta on us.

>"Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master."

Pravin is Utopic-Bro-Tier

That's because she's the only one saying "yes we can do thing, but is it right to do thing?"

And then she does said thing to the guy who said "Miriam, c'mon, we're living in sci-fi right now".

>background: Free Scotland

Literally an /int/ meme of a character.

>Human Hive - "Enlightened" but slaves
>Morgan Industries - Inequality, 1% vs 99%
>Peacekeeping Forces - Humanitarian but bureaucratic (corrupt?)
>Spartan Federation - Freedom but violent ("might makes right")
>Lord's Believers - Faithful but violent
>University of Planet - Intelligent but unethical (anti-life)
>Gaia's Stepdaugters - PERFECT IN EVERY WAY (Waifu material)

No corruption in the Peacekeepers, it's really just bureaucracy. As for Spartans, no freedom, it's organized like an army, and anyone who isn't a fighter is basically a slave, even useful people like specialists.

ah, thanks. I never actually played Spartans.

What level of good guys are the Peacekeepers?

>Gaia's Stepdaugters - PERFECT IN EVERY WAY (Waifu material)
t. tentacle monster

Lal is so good that people who hate him literally have to bash him over his personal project where he sought to resurrect his dead wife through cloning.

The only good guys in setting, no shades of gray bullshit.
Also, Aki Zeta-5 is a better waifu.

>PERFECT IN EVERY WAY
Enjoying using your ass as a mind worm nest?

Sounds enjoyable desu senpai.

>a robot as waifu
what are you, autistic?

I want my girl to be gaian (animalistic - great in the sack)

>what are you, autistic?
Yes?

Also clinging to a political model that has already been proven to fail under stress.

I don't get it, what's wrong with Miriam? She sounds like my mom.

They are technically the protagonists of the story?

I dunno, I always saw them as the protagonists, even when I was playing another nation, or at least the moral compass.

How's the remake?

Beyond Earth? It's a Civ5 texture pack with a shitty extra skill tree hacked on.

The protags are the gaians, m8.

How do the Gaians and the Peacekeepers view each other?
What is their relationship?
Who is better? Who Wins?

They tend to pick the same policies and end up friends.

It's tough to think of these days with how far to the Right-but-pretends-they're-the-True-Left that Western Politics has shoved itself over towards.

Nothing. Every other faction is obsessed with either collecting money, power or knowledge. The Gaians are just tools of their brainworm masters. Miriam just wants people to live good and happy lives, and if they must dissent from what the world expects of them because of that, then that's the path of the righteous.

>Miriam just wants people to live good and happy lives
Nah she wants them to praise the Lord.

The Gaians are actually the least ethical of them all. They will fuck over their own people in an instant if it means saving a tree, and they subject everyone they even slightly disagree with to painful mind rape.

Better than getting nervestapled.

Obviously not. Nobody cares about their climate changing nonsense.

>anyone who isn't a fighter is basically a slave, even useful people like specialists.

t. headcanon

Represent.

>>being this pleb
Every Spartan is in The army.

Read the databanks, m8.

Praise The Lord = Better And Happy Life. This is a known fact that trascends The question of The Lord's existance Or Otherwise.

You should follow your own advice.

t. Catholic

>Don't believe in climate change.

I guess I need to provide proof. To the Planet-Busters!

Miriam is careful and reasonable, the issue is if she's too cautious with new tech to be an effective leader. She clings to the past rather than rushing so quickly for the future you are not paying attention to where you stand like the other leaders. It's both her strength and her weakness as a leader.

Mind you, gameplay wise she's often one of the best tech-wise despite that due to her Elite Vatican Hackers (This is legitimately how the Believers play due to the devs not quite thinking how a couple of mechanics lined up.).

I'd have been very interested to see how they'd have done another religious character in the same engine without rehashing her. Maybe a Natural Philosopher sort that is +Planet +Research but crud at military?

1- exactly
2- still true and implying otherwise is genetic fallacy.

My satellites will protect me. But will your green economy let you match my production capability?
I guessed not. I'll happily interrogate You personaly in due time.

Cha Dawn?

I don't read alot of science fiction or any other kinds of books really, but the writing in this game seemed so fucking good. The descriptions of all the techs, etc. Who was responsible for all the writing in this game?

Oh, I meant more 'With her sort of background'. Not so much a crazy cult leader.

Just pondering stuff due to the limitations of the engine at the time (They didn't really have culture/religion mechanics yet) and how you'd represent different personalities in more than one way mechanically.

I remember the manual for it (man, remember when games came with a fuckin BOOK instead of "epileptics pls" on a single sticky note?) basically outright saying they binge read ALL the scifi in the development process.

Read the Destination Void books. Those after the first were definitely a big influence on the game.

Despite how much anons tend to call everything and everyone shit, listen to this one. Beyond Earth really is absolute shit.

I still can't believe I actually paid money for it, to be honest. And then they expected me to buy an "expansion" that made it what it was promised to be in the first place. Fuck modern AAA gaming, for srs.

One can infer that Miriam (and to some extent her whole faction) is necessarily quite moderate on the whole Christianity thing, due to the fact that SHE'S A WOMAN, and orthodox Christianity frowns on them holding positions of spiritual authority.

...

The Morganites are so obsessed with materialism and blind consumerism they are like a fire that will devour everything in their path and than extinguish themselves in a vain attempt to reignite a new spark from nothing.

The Peacekeepers are a people that have their ambitions fixed towards the obsolescent past, a arrogant mindset that wish to protect and guarantee basic human rights and freedoms to everyone who follows their laws and bureaucracy yet is too stubborn and cumbersome a beast to adapt and change to a universal paradigm that no longer has a purpose for humanity but extinction.

The Spartans parade and march around with all the bravado and instinctual desires of a rabid beast. Too narrow minded to treat humanity as anything but mere bullets and too mad to grasp any solution beyond squeezing the trigger.

The Lord's Believers are blinded by faith and crippled by zealotry, they think their superior morality will be their salvation, yet their old god lies dead in the wastes of the old world, and it is their inferior morality that will be their coffin in the new world.

The scholars of the University prattle on about their brilliant science in their shiny ivory towers of progress, they may have a mind to delve into the dark secrets of the universe but not the discipline to remain sane nor the wisdom to accept and master whatever horrible truths.that unfold before their hubris.

The gaians so all accepting and all embracing is their life philosophies, that they are willing to give up their quintessential humanity to be one with a alien world that at every opportunity dreams of their demise. A people so desperate to seek harmony and freedom that they will sacrifice everything to achieve it, spends their lifetimes being subsumed in disorder, in fear of everyone and in fear of themselves.

>yang talking about egocentrism, pointless paradigms and humanity

top lal

Fun fact everyone. A good percentage of the team that made Alpha Centauri have been pushed into making nothing but Facebook games for the past ten years

That's not fun. That's not fun at all.

That's exactly what all of Yang's quotes are about.

THE HIVE IS STARVING, WE GIVE A HOOT
WE'LL FEED EM ALL WITH SPARTAN BOOTS

Fuck you Yang, fuck you and the billion fucking cities you are hiding behind.

How would you go about designing additional factions that aren't the weaksauce that showed up in SMAX?

How about fixing SMAX factions?
Aliens and pirates excepted, they have some kind of reason to exist in setting already.

I don't recall anything saying that her faction is explicitly a theocracy rather than one formed around religion as its core.

Beyond Earth's reputation is strongly hampered by people insisting on comparing it to Alpha Centauri despite the fact that there's no reason to do so. It isn't AC 2. The devs openly said they weren't making AC. Literally the only comparison to Alpha Centauri is "Space CIV" which is pretty fucking braindead.

The fact that the game is shit on its own merits just makes the whole thing worse.

>Literally the only comparison to Alpha Centauri is "Space CIV" which is pretty fucking braindead.
Galactic Civilizations is Space Civ too, Beyond Earth is a bit more specific than that.

>It's not AC2 at all!
>>It's a turn based strategy game where you design your units, it takes place in the future and you control factions that left Earth and went to develop new way of thinkings or applying old failures. Also the planet is trying to kill you.
Too true. Sounds more like Pandora : First Contact.

re-re-really?

Please show evidence... I want the truth, but I want to believe Deirdre is perfect.

Okay, I want to install SM-AC again.
Should I install the expansion? mods?
What's the best way to play (most fun)? Military domination? Diplomat?

yes exactly

No, no.
Play Gaians, borehole on every time, tame all the mind worms that come, unleash them when you're declared war on.

Civ: BE has good fluff. Shame about the game itself. It deserved a final expansion.

>pic
The affinities felt kind of shallow.

I agree. Though I feel like the hybrid affinities were a step in the right direction. The game could have used four or five to begin with, rather than three.

Also, Supremacy and Supremacy-Harmony are obviously the best affinities.

>Supremacy-Harmony
>not Purity-Supremacy or Purity-Harmony

In the ending cutscene in the Ascent to Transcendence, there are 7 people, standing in a circle, as humanity ascends.

These 7 people are the faction leaders, putting aside their differences to save humanity. Each of them represents the best and the worst of mankind, and at the dawn of the new age, all these old conflicts become meaningless, and they arise as equals.

>Good luck, I'm behind 10 billion bunkers.

>SMAX bullshit

kill yourself

What is the answer to this shit? Do you just try to reduce your ecological damage and hope Planet rapes Yang first?

Planet busters and a staggeringly large war of attrition. Eco damage probably won't matter much cause their bound to have pressure domes

The fuck did you just say M8? I'mma fuckin' wreck ya.

youtube.com/watch?v=OhwqRnXC4hc

(Also it's basically canon that the Free Drones take out Yang in the end, starting from a rebellion in his own cities.)

>War of attrition
>Against Yang

>yfw when you realized chairman yang is just a head

He lost his body during the colony wars

>crossfire shit
no, none of it matters

It's not all bad, but you have to remember that most of those offshoot societies probably failed badly. For instance the hackers probably never expanded much beyond a single city. A lot of them were stuck on a continent with the newly arrived aliens. And although the Aliens were pretty OP the original factions have a huge head start on everyone. It's more like a side tale.

Anyway out of all those factions the Free Drones are the ones that fit best with the original seven and have a neat sendoff for Yang, who had no proper answer in the original game.

>Mind you, gameplay wise she's often one of the best tech-wise despite that due to her Elite Vatican Hackers
Never pulls this off as AI

There is an event that triggers text in a Drone-Hive war, not sure what causes it

AI plays Miram the worst out of all the factions, I remember one multiplayer game where hte Miram player of the orbital elevator and then it rained fucking probe teams for the rest of the game as she raped everyfaction of credits good units bases and what ever the fuck she wanted.

The main reason for that is that her preferred ideology is one that absolutely NO ONE ELSE is really gonna take. Maybe the Spartans could, but the damage to science is too big of a deal for anyone other than her.

>databanks
>not datalinks

Git gud, scrub.

>mfw baddies don't realize the power of Elite Christian Hackers until it's too late for them
>mfw having a better probe game than Morgan could ever hope for
>mfw mad heretics

>play mixed SMAX and classic game
>random
>Cha Dawn
>first neighbor is Gaians
>beat them into submission
>wonder why Deirdre doesn't worship planet-sent shota prophet
No, seriously. Every other faction makes sense, and there's a logical reason for relations to be tense. The Drones are tired of Yang's bullshit, the hackers don't like the University's iron grip on information, the Pirates don't like the military structure of the Spartans, and so on.
Deirdre should be worshipping the ground Chaw Dawn walks on.

Eh... Deirdre is effectively just your average politician pretending to be a collectivist leaning hippy.

Cha Dawn's faction is some Jonestown tier cult shit.

>pretending
>Her victory condition is literally entering into a hivemind with Planet

The hackers are from Morgan's group
The cyborgs are the ones from university
