Ninja Monk Quest

>Ninja monk quest takes place within the Narutoverse. It is set ~20 years prior to the events of the original Naruto and in the midst of the 3rd World War.

Sacrifice.

Maybe by nostalgia or maybe by fate, an old man shuffles towards the great stone faces of those which came before him, the Hokage rock, and towards a lone metal door embedded within the stone wall itself. A lone sign is planted there, its dusty black lettering reading out a single word:

“ARCHIVE”.
----
Pacing the nearly endless bookshelves, the third Hokage, Sarutobi, finally sighs. He had no idea why he came here. Turning to leave the way he came, he nearly trips over an unexpected obstacle…

A single scroll, no thicker than a single pencil. The only mark on its dusty white face is a single symbol in Kanji.

“SACRIFICE”.

Sarutobi peels it open cautiously, to find the following words painted flawlessly in sweeps of black ink:

“Herein lies the final will and testament of a noble monk, a warrior, and poet of purest soul. Many have and many more will see my works, but I neither require nor search for recognition. In these final hours, I pray that this final testament is read, recorded, and taken to heart, so that those who come after us will not make the same mistakes of my generation. Shinobi may still one day find peace within the Ninshū. May this troubled world never again waste the precious lives of our own as we so callously have before. May the world never again let blaze the fires of war as I have witnessed.”

I, [ 1. ]….a monk of [ 2. ] declare this to be my final will.

Hello

Afternoon, anons.

I am resting. I slept until like 2pm today! I'm also playing some AM2R.

Rolled 2 (1d2)

>1. Siblings
>2. Orphan

4) Legacy
You’d become an unnamed hero, the likes never seen again and whose techniques would be all but lost to time, in the discipline of:
>Taijutsu (techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques.)

>Ninjutsu (Ninjutsu is human's corrupted use of the Sage of the Six Paths' ninshū; rather than use chakra to achieve understanding and create peace as the Sage intended, humans weaponized their chakra for war...or defense.)

>Genjutsu (one of the main jutsu categories which uses chakra. Unlike ninjutsu, the effects of genjutsu are not real, being only illusions experienced by those who fall victim to it. Genjutsu effects the target’s core senses and as such can manipulate their perceptions. )

>Bukijutsu (Specifically techniques involving the use of weaponry in combat. Weapons can be just as useful on the battlefield as jutsu, either due to the weapon's design, its special abilities, or the unique way in which a ninja combines it with his or her other skills.)

>Fuinjutsu (a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object. Fūinjutsu can be used to restrict movement, seal or unseal objects either from within something or someone, as well as emulate or control the flow, transfer, and transformation of chakra in the human body. A broad category, Fuinjutsu encompasses barrier jutsu, sealing jutsu, cursed seals, the latent power of symbols and numbers, as well as the nature and construction of chakra itself).

Lets do something unprecedented.

>Ninjutsu: 1.5/6
>Taijutsu: 2.5/6
>Genjutsu: 1/6
>Intelligence: 1.5/6
>Strength: 3/6
>Speed: 1.5/6
>Stamina: 1/6
>Chakra Control: 2/6

Would you like to switch any of the category scores?

We suck

Ooops

Hope the bloody mist doesn't murder us.

1 in stamina is pretty bad, though I don't know if I'm willing to swap tai or str for it.

Looks fine.
But, those are a lot of ones.

You'll be getting a bonus to chakra control and intelligence from picking the sealing jutsu specialty.

Give me two more rolls of 1d6 though. You can replace any of current scores with those if they end up higher.

Rolled 2, 4 = 6 (2d6)

Rolled 2 (1d6)

I'll ignore this one...
And count the 4

one last 1d6 chance

Rolled 4 (1d6)

Two lowest scores have been replaced with the rolls you gave.

>Ninjutsu: 1.5/6
>Taijutsu: 2.5/6
>Genjutsu: 2/6
>Intelligence: 1.5/6
>Strength: 3/6
>Speed: 1.5/6
>Stamina: 2/6
>Chakra Control: 2/6

How would you like to rearrange the about scores? I'll give a few minutes before I call the vote

I vote for swapping Genjutsu and Speed.

If we're a monk we need to be at least a bit speedy, right?

I agree.

Strength with intelligence. Got to be a smart guy so we can use seals.

Man, this too but he can't be too weak in body either. Tough choices.

Supporting these two:

Also, Amon gains the following:
>The Sealed Monk: Amon has a unique talent in understanding the symbolic logic, structure, and function of seals. (+.5 intelligence, +1 chakra control)

Red said we're getting an as of yet unspecified INT and Chakra control bonus- We should keep our ability to PUNCH

The final count:

>Ninjutsu: 1.5/6
>Taijutsu: 2.5/6
>Genjutsu: 1.5/6
>Intelligence: 3.5/6 (+0.5, Sealed Monk)
>Strength: 1.5/6
>Speed: 2/6
>Stamina: 2/6
>Chakra Control: 3/6 (+1, Sealed Monk)

Is this acceptable? That's all for character creation and writing will begin after this choice.

Good for me.

Works for me

Man, we're crazy smart now. Let's do it.

Your name is Amon Shuu, a humble monk of the Water Temple.
You have no family to speak of. Whether you had any to begin with is a question you don't have an answer to. You were just one of the many casualties of the 2nd Shinobi World War, an orphan. Your luck pulled through when a wandering monk snatched you from the debris of a border skirmish between Konohagakure and Kirigakure, your village having been reduced to rubble in the midst of battle. You were 4 years old. The monk, Myatsuu, brought you back to the Water Temple on the marsh-lined coastline by carrying you on his back the entirety of the journey.

Your recovery was long and silent, he allowed you both space and time in healing the shock of the events that transpired. You found peace in the calm waters of the Temple's Floating Gardens, a sense of peace few stand to discover in their lives. In due time, Myatsuu taught you to reading writing, and the oral traditions of the Water Monks passed down through generation upon generation. Following the few monks in their daily routines followed naturally, as you played and emulated the monks in their training. By the age of 8 ypou joined them wholly, their routines and discipline becoming yours. The monks soon discovered your talent and hunger for reading the ancient scripts and seals, as well as in making them. You would become the scribe and archivist of the Temple's knowledge at the young age of 14, free to access the same wealth of knowledge you were sworn for a lifetime to protect and preserve.

In due time, you would be able to call Myatsuu many things: a teacher, your counsel, and a teacher. He would personally teach you greater mysteries of philosophy, the senses, the world, and the nature of chakra.

This is where your story begins.

*a teacher, your counsel, and a friend

Birds chirping.
The pitter-patter of rain upon the tiled roof.

You wake up to the familiar noises that greet you most morning at the Temple. You look out the nearby window from your bedroll and see the peek of sunrise across the rippled waters and sacred lotus of the Temple's Gardens. It's a little earlier than usual, but waking up at this time of morning has become second nature to you...though it certainly didn't start that way.

With a chuckle, you stand and lightly stretch your body. So begins another day at the Water Temple.

>It's too early for the other monks and the temple gardens are practically calling you in the morning rain. Maybe you should meditate for a bit

>A little wake-me-up never hurt, warm up with some morning exercises

>Myatsuu may be awake at this time. He may be old, but you rarely see the man sleeping. He'd probably be meditating somewhere around here....

>See if that one guest is still here, bringing him an early breakfast and tea would be a polite surprise

>Day or Night, the lure of the Archives always grips your insatiable curiosity. In fact, it was probably what you ended with last night as well...

>See if any of your fellow monks are up

>Write in(?)

>>>See if that one guest is still here, bringing him an early breakfast and tea would be a polite surprise

As always my heart is drawn toward the mystery box.

>See if that one guest is still here, bringing him an early breakfast and tea would be a polite surprise

>>A little wake-me-up never hurt, warm up with some morning exercises

>Out of six system
You have my attention

Mystery box ahoy

With dawn on the brink and confident in facing the day ahead, you decide to be a bit proactive in your duties. With an boyish energy, you make way to the small Temple kitchen to brew fresh tea and rice for your guest.

Well, you do like making good impressions...how about some fruit as well. A freshly-picked pair fits the bill. As you wait for the tea to brew (the leaves from the Garden were still green, after all), you try to remember the man's name- you'd heard the monks discussing it during their leisure period. Some shinobi from Konoha had arrived without warning yesterday afternoon and had requested a Temple's hospitality- of which any shrine of well moral standing would gladly provide.

What was his name...

Sami?
Sakuno?
No...well, you'll have to learn THAT as well, it would seem.

The tea ready, you put the entire meager menagerie of breakfast onto a small tray and make your way to the Temple Guest house, behind the garden and on the water.

It's small, but well-kept. Right now though, not a sound is coming from it. Hopefully, you don't wake him up...
One knock.
Two knock.

"Come in," a gravelly man's voice calls from inside.

As you come through the door, a bright mane of white and grey hair emerges from a large blanket and wearily smiles at you.

"Ah, you must be one of the monks-in training. Thank you for sparing me the room on your grounds, I won't stay too long, I promise,"

>Offer him the tray of breakfast and leave
>Ask him his name, pleasantries, etc?
>The room seems a bit brighter than you expect, though it seems to be coming from a small sheathed object in the man's belongings, what is it?
>"Are you a ninja, sir?"
>Write in (I will always try to incorporate write ins, and as such encourage them almost whenever)

>Ask him his name, pleasantries, etc?

>>Ask him his name, pleasantries, etc?

>>Ask him his name, pleasantries, etc?

>"Are you a ninja, sir?"

>we're from the Land of Water
So if we're meeting Sakumo, then Kakashi must be running around somewhere back home. He and Zabuza are about the same age, right? So has he killed a schoolyard of children he just kind of stumbled into?

You put the tray down on a small wooden table and shake your head.

"Hospitality is both a courtesy and right to the monks of this Temple. As the monks have said, you can stay as long as your circumstances require, sir, " you state with a bow.

"I thank you for your understanding, young monk. It would seem the priests of this beautiful shrine have much in the way of wisdom to teach you," he replies, returning your same gesture.

You can't help but respect this man for his sincerity. The way he states his words can only be described as decisive.

"Where are you from, if I may ask, Mister..."

"Sakumo, Sakumo Hatake," he answers with a small grin, "and please, don't feel the need to restrict your curiosity. I'm from Konohagakure to the north."

That's a ways away from here....

>What brings you to the temple, Mr. Hatake?
>What is it like, the land of fire?
>You're a ninja? What are the ninja like?
>Are you on a journey?
>how long do you plan to stay? Would you like to join us for a little while?
>Write in

>What is it like, the land of fire?
>You're a ninja? What are the ninja like?
>Are you on a journey?

Are you on a journey?

>Are you on a journey?

I think you missed the /qst/ board, buddy

No, he did not

I look at the top of this page and see "Veeky Forums - Traditional Games"

I'm not censoring you or claiming you can't have your fun, but there is a board specifically for quests, please use it

"Are you on a journey?" you ask, curious.

Sakumo closes his eyes and a few seconds of silence fill the gap in your conversation before he responds.

"Yes. Yes, you could say that...what was your name again?"

"Amon, sir. Amon Shuu."

"Amon, is it? Well, Amon," Sakumo says quietly, leaning in towards you, "I'm on my greatest journey. I'm going to save a princess from a tower, you see." He whisper this while looking too and fro, as if this was the most treasured secret in the world.

"A...princess?" you say, skeptically.

"Yes, a true noble of Konoha. An inheritor of our Will of Fire." He gives a melancholy grin.
"I am on a journey to save this girl, you see...though I hope it may be my last."

"You're a ninja then!" you gape in awe, "What are ninja like? What about the Land of Fire?"

He gives a small chuckle before sitting up completely.

"It's like a dream, Amon. Nothing ever compares to seeing the rock faces of the Hokage or seeing the autumn leaves in fall. A ninja's life is one of service, of duty to this home of theirs they hold dear..."

he suddenly looks different for a moment and his eyes go empty, although he is still talking directly to you.

"...for the ones they hold dear, too," he finishes at a whisper.

"Being a ninja... is hard. If I could do it, everything, over again...I don't know if I would." You can hear his voice get a bit tense, and a note of sadness creeps into his speech.

"I don't know if I could."

"I hope you aren't bothering our guest, Amon," calls a jovial voice from behind you. With a slight jump, you turn to see a familiar face, Myatsuu, the High Priest.

"I'm sure you realize exercises have started, Amon, or have you forgotten what time it is...?"

You look outside around the guest house. The sun is well into the morning sky.

Crap.

>Talk to Sakumo a bit more anyway
>Talk to Myatsuu
>Ask another question (may get you in trouble)
>Gotta run!
>Skip morning exercises, do something else
>Write in

>Gotta run!
Time to get beefy.

I keep waiting for more responses, so my posts have come a bit late. I'll start writing about 10-15 mins in from now on.

>>Gotta run!

>Gotta run!

Apologize, then get moving for morning exercises.
It'll be hard to cast seals when we're doubled over from running too fast.

>Gotta run!

>Gotta run!

“So sorry for bothering you, Sakumo.”

“Don’t worry about it kid. Better get a move on, yeah?”

You quickly bow to the elder and the stranger and hustle across the back lawn, through the red door of the temple shrine, past the living quarters, out into the central courtyard….and right into the wrong person. God no, not Tai.

Tai only glares at you as the other monks are sparring. “You’re Late.”

As you know, this can usually go one of two ways…..
And Tai doesn’t have a sparring partner. Most likely because he’s the one running the exercises.

>Look, I’m actually pretty sore and I don’t think I can spar with you this morning.
>*Sigh* yeah I know.
>Try to change the topic of conversation
>Try to escape by grabbing another monk’s attention
>Write in

>*Sigh* yeah I know.

>*Sigh* yeah I know.

>>*Sigh* yeah I know.

>>*Sigh* yeah I know.

You can't help but sigh. "Yeah, Tai, I know. Let's just get this over with."

Tai spreads into a lithe, aggressive stance...

Rolled 14 (1d20)

lets' get down

Rolled 1 (1d20)

Let me show you my skills.

Rolled 15 (1d20)

bruh

So close to fail.

>No crits pls

I'll let anons choose. Crits or no crits in this quest?

1. Crit
2. No Crit

flip a coin, it's the only fair way now that we've already rolled a 1. A decision should have been made before any rolls occurred.

No critfails with d20.

As a person who is totally unbiased, as I am totally not the person who rolled the 1 hahah what are you talking about you can't prove shit, I think no crit is the best decision.

probably has the best idea though.

>2. No Crit
