How are our admirals' fleet painting progressing?

>How does it play in a nutshell?
Players take turns activating squadrons that move, attack with Short Ranged craft and fire their weapon systems at the opponent's fleet. Players must consider the order that they activate their squadrons, as well as the options to link weapons systems for a greater combined number of dice. Games typically run for 2-4 hours.

Terran starter Patrol Fleet, contains the older (shittier) models.

The other human faction. Religious separatists. Models are fairly similar to their more recent updates.
Favour Forward-Fixed Kinetic weapons, great for early game kills!

Directorate. Corporate Overlords with all the cool toys...

Lasers, biological weapons, corrosive weapons, corrosive lasers... biological lasers?
Robot boarding parties and cloned psychopaths for boarding parties. Cyber-warfare and cloaking.

This fleet gets to use a smattering of rules from all the races.

My current fleet. Blue with yellow trim Terrans.

Wanted to use an airbrush, but seemed more work than necessary.

My regular opponent's fleet

Here's some Terrans I did a little while ago.

Delicious.

What kind of fleet do you currently run?

I'm currently running:

>Tier 1
Battlecruisers

Carrier, Shield Cruiser and bomber wings

>Tier 2
Cruiser squadron with Shield Cruiser accompaniment

Heavy Cruisers (x2)

>Tier 3
Armsmen Frigates (x4)

Armsmen Frigates (x4)

I'm currently considering my next purchase. I have the Terran half of the starter set plus the Hawker patrol fleet plus the Ryushi Battle Carrier because I love the model.

I'm pondering whether to grab the Ryushi Patrol Fleet to fill out a Kurak Alliance fleet or focus on rounding out my Terran fleet. I know their Shield Cruisers are meant to be really good. I also kinda wish there were more Hawker models to choose from, I love the design of their ships.

Shield Cruisers are quintessentially Terran. They are actually effective in larger games.

Follow the Rule of Cool. Take what looks good.

I find the directorate to have the less cool ships, the only ones I liked from them were the taskforce ones.

So, anyone has the fluff? Or we only have the rules?

Fluff is fairly sparse right now. Free rules don't have much fluff.

Players are writing their own.

1d4chan haa the basics of most races written up.

Players are often writing their own texts and submitting them online.

I refer to their random assortment of rules. Overseers box has some pretties.

We've got tidbits of fluff here and there, and a lot of it is pretty cool.

So does FA still have unlimited exploding dice or have they switched to the same system as Halo?

I think it's still unlimited? Which I kinda love. Yeah, it's an element of extreme randomness, but I play Firestorm as a more beer and pretzels game anyway, and that sort of insane moment of chance is the sort of thing everyone playing remembers for ages, no matter what side they're on.

Halo is arguably even more beer and pretzels it's also more balanced.

Being a light game isn't an excuse for having piss poor balance.

Can frigates still technically stay still or move backwards?

Randomness doesn't necessitate imbalance. They're actually somewhat disconnected. You can have an entirely random and perfectly balanced 'game'. Flipping a coin is perfectly balanced- Each side will win 50% of the time. But it's also entirely random.

Where randomness interferes with balance is if it's not consistently applied, where some factions can fail or excel purely based on luck, but not others. But given Firestorms exploding dice apply to virtually everything, in and of itself it doesn't affect the balance of the game.

When a frigate can kill a battleship not through superior positioning, or tactics, or skill but through nothing but pure luck that affects balance.

The fact that all frigates in the game can do it is irrelevant.

Alright buddy, take a maxed out frigate list and see how it does for you.

I have, it's why one of the reasons I stopped playing.

All frigate Terran list. Move backwards and torp everything to death. Never lost a game.

Sure bro, I believe you.

It doesn't matter if you believe me or not, bro.

Regardless of whether it's true or not, you're kind of stupid for playing a broken list you apparently didn't have fun with anyway.

It was to prove a point.

So yeah I'm stupid for proving that the game is imbalanced and bad ...

It mostly sounds like you wasted your time and money for no good reason, to be honest.

So one model is OP and thus proves the entire system bad?

I see, in the official forums for the fluff tidbits or is there a wiki or something?
