How is it? How's the theme?

elite armies are all memes

viva la moonclan

I like, but do remember that Neffy doesn't get a Command Trait because she's a named character.

That's rich when you think that a big enough blob of Night Gobbos with a Warboss hiding among them is one of the killiest and toughest units in the game.

>still no dwarfs leaks
They best be amazing after all this, we need to counter for the Fyreslayers release

>What elite armies are memes and which are actually good?

Whats this supposed to even mean? Please stop with this "which armies are good" bullshit. Play the one you like the look of and or play style of. This is just turning into the 40k general with a different name.

Crap, thanks for the reminder
Guess i'll have to stick it on my Dragon Lord for extra trolling (14 wound model that has 3 ways to regen wounds, with a nat 3+ save AND a 5++)

>he thinks any game system will be able to resist min/maxers

>he thinks there wont end up being an objectively best army and setup for absolutely any given cycle

>he thinks the answer to which army is most good wont be the newest release from GW

where is that actually stated , i looked for it but couldn't find it

the question is how many blobs and of what size at 1k / 2k

I actually like the Fyreslayer weapon designs, the Magmapikes in particular look great. I just can't get over nekkid dorfs.

No prob, though you should still think about what's better: Neffy's -1 To Hit aura or a nice To Hit buff and Ruler of the Night from the Zombie Dragon vamp.

I personally would agree with you, the Dragon Lord makes for a better General, being tougher and Neffy's frankly enough of a fire magnet on her own.

General's Handbook, the very last paragraph on the double page where allegiance abilities are introduced. I'd give you a page number, but the last time I gave a GH page number it turned out my German edition has some pages switched around, so I can't trust the numbers

I think the maximum unit size is 60, so 60. Since the Warboss can only buff one unit, you'll only need the one, but you can of course play more, they just won't be as devastating without Bellowing Tyrant and the Command buff.

P.157

Yeah, but i thought the Neffy bubble was pretty stronk - but is it stronger than during a 6++ to a 5++?

Guess i'll have to Google dive / play test

i have an English edition but thanks i found it
had been looking for this

Why do you assume any of these things? Min/maxers are cancer that ruin all games, including vidya. It shouldn't be encouraged especially when prior to the ghb it wasn't discussed in the same manner of WHICH IS BEST TELL ME NOW SO I CAN WIN without learning anything in the process.

Oh i'm sure your kind will scrutinise the shit out of it all and come up with some raging faggotry "meta" that will after awhile become the norm where anything discussed that isnt "whats the best" is looked upon with scorn and this game too will be complete cancer just like 40k, where only meta armies battle it out and anyone not looking up these lists gets stomped out in 2 turns.

i would think so
especially because units that have a special effect on a 6+ now lose it
you can always get the 5+ when/if neferata dies

>especially because units that have a special effect on a 6+ now lose it
Oh damn didn't think of this - Guess she's still in charge for now

>it wasn't discussed in the same manner of WHICH IS BEST TELL ME NOW SO I CAN WIN
Now that's just untrue. Remember the whole
>Saurus Warriors are so shit why shouldn't I play Guard instead
thing?

Quite frankly, I'm worried about exactly what you're describing, but also frankly, I wouldn't be too pissed about that. I mean, pre-GH we used to look for gamebreaker-exploiters to tell us what people to avoid. As soon as the WAACers have infected Matched completely, you can simply tell someone's a WAACer if he refuses to play Open. Thus making Open a nice, comfy safe haven for people wanting to have a good time again, just as it was always supposed to be.

Um no, if your General dies, your General is gone, you don't get to give another dude a promotion.

>Proxy vs Conversion argument that lasted 2+ threads
>Now Open vs Matched argument is on Thread 2
BITE

DUSTO

What's the point of playing if you both have to handicap yourself? Like if I take an objective an outsmart you you'll just cry about Waac

>AoS General will never be comfy again
>People will never just accept anyone else as having a different opinion
>40kids who tell everyone how the game's "supposed to be played" are here to stay

see

It means when someone says "Whats the best elite army??" you say "Beastclaw Ogres are the best elite army." because it's a question being asked, that has an answer. Boom, that was easy.

How is that a good time?

>Hey guys lets have a race (go slow tho cause I'm the fat kid)

How about you fuck off fat kid and let the rest of us play properly

I assume those things because they happen in every aspect of life ever.

even if it was a group that casually cuts logs in their offtime, someone will eventually want to be able to cut more logs than the other people in the group and will find out the optimal way to cut logs. when a new wood is brought to their group where his way of cutting isnt the most efficient he will find a new way to cut logs. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep min/maxing out of ANYTHING because it is human nature to want to do things better and no matter what kind of restrictions you want to put into a system there will always be a BEST option. at most you can hope to limit how much better options can be.

No such thing as a best army, so the question does not have an answer. Beastclaw aren't so tough if you know what's coming. If the question had been "what's the lowest model count army in the game", Beastclaw would have been the immediate answer.
But claiming there'a best army is bullshit. I can easily build a list to hard-counter even the worst bullshit Beastclaw has to offer.
And ASKING for the "best army" is the kind of thing that raises all the WAAC flags there are.

I'm gonna run a 3 round tourney for kicks, which 3 missions do you guys think are the most fun/balanced? The 4 objective mission where one is in the center or each quarter (don't have my book right now) is probably the most balanced, but I think the one where the objectives drop down is more fun.

There will usually be a best army in terms of meta - even if counters exist for an army, if it wins more games than any other army given random pairings, it's the strongest. Until counterbuilds become more common, at which point the meta shifts.

Same user, I think at the moment Free Peoples is probably the best TAC army, personally.

eventhubs.com/news/2016/jan/11/why-street-fighter-5s-reversal-punishment-mechanics-are-definitley-not-too-harsh/

street fighter, along with other fighting games, do a lot to minimize the BEST options. Their game designers take quite a bit more time in the balancing of their game and admittidely have less mechanisms they need to balance, but it would be nice to see some attempt by tabletop games to do the same thing. Closest I can think is the way they do it in Malifaux where you set up the table, then find what faction your opponent is playing then find out the missions then build the crew after knowing the missions, table layout and your opponents faction

So one of the strongest armies in the game currently isn't strong if you tailor specifically to beat them?

Well no shit. But if you really think that's acceptable then now who's the Waac player? . see

You assume a game has to be about winning. So imagine playing a battleplan in which one player has only half the forces of the other and the underdog just has to hold out for a set amount of time. Do you think you "won" because you managed to curb-stomp the underdog in 6 turns? Or do you think you lost because he technically won a major victory for surviving 5? The correct answer would be: Neither, because you don't play AGAINST the other guy, you play WITH the other guy. And if both players have fun, isn't that kinda better than only one player having fun?

Do you consider it a proper game if you as a chess amateur have to play a grandmaster? Do you think you have an advantage against the grandmaster if you play white? No? Why not? Statistically, if both players always make the perfect moves, white wins.

If you can't fathom playing in a way that doesn't rob the other guy of his fun, how about you play some single player video game? Because there you can fuck the enemies as hard as you want without them ever getting pissed.

Or you don't pick your options by how much stronger they are but by how much you like their aesthetic. Sure I know Plagueclaws would be the perfect additions to my Nurgle army, but I really hate their looks so I'd rather take those 180 points and pick another unit of Blightkings instead. There, that's also a kind of min-maxing, but not in the way of "this is more useful".

sounds great, but doesn't that mean you always have to bring your entire fucking collection to every game no matter how small?

Even then it's not the strongest. Have the Beastclaws run into a wall of handgunners and tell them you run the best army in the game. Then have that same handgunner list fight a Skyborne Slayers list and see the handgunner-list lose. Then have the Beastclaws stampede the Skyborne Slayers to kingdom come.
Point is, there's no "best army".

so i want to play 1000 pts tournament i dont know what other players will bring - we will be playing with generals handbook - can anyone post some OP combos that i need to find solution for while thinking about building my list ?

Fucking hell, these threads lately...

Scrolling past so many people bickering just to get to anything worth reading.

Grow up ffs

No, just fucking have fun

And if winning is massively important then don't join a tournament untill you know the game well enough. Don't expect to just jump in with all the answers and win.

It's a game. Winning isnt everything, it's about having fun.

in malifaux an entire faction can easily fit in a small case since average crews are between 6-9 models. Something simliar could be done in a larger scale game using a card game style sideboard. maybe for a 2k game you have a set ~1500pt list as an example. and the last 500pts can be anything you want and you can use that before the game starts but after you know your opponents faction

that is not min maxing at all. thats taking something you like, and there is nothing wrong with that.

>Can't comprehend people might find winning the game fun in its own right

It's like watching a monkey struggle to understand what he can see in a mirror

Did I say winning isnt fun?
Did I?
No.
No I didn't.

That's not what I said.

See What are you adding to the discussion?
Stop baiting and contribute. It's boring.

Whatever.

You need to prepare for:
>ranged weapon spam (i.e. Thundertusks, Hell Cannons, Jezzails)
>teleporters
>devastating charges

At best, you want some powerful ranged weapons, some troubleshooters to kill backfield war machines, some chaff to soak up devastating chargers like Stonehorns, chaff to bubble-wrap your ranged weapons with, something tough and mobile to take objectives and some melee to get the enemy tough mobile units off of objectives.

Eh, I'd rather tell him what to expect and then wait for him to lose anyway because you can never be prepared for the crazy shit some tournament players pull.

>that is not min maxing at all. thats taking something you like, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Except lots of people come here saying that's exactly the wrong way to do it. Then when you explain you like their looks, they tell you "well then you shouldn't be surprised it's not competitive". Which I cannot accept, because if both players have armies of the same points value, shouldn't that mean both armies are of equal strength? I mean I know that's not the case and some things are always overpowered, but is it wrong that I don't focus on the undercosted units?
I mean, I sometimes do because Skullreapers are way undercosted (40 points less than Blightkings? Really?) but I take them because I really like the models and how they play.

Yes, but some people find list min/maxing and playing hard at tournaments to be fun.

No, it is not wrong that you don't focus on under costed units. But you should not be surprised that an under costed unit outperforms the stuff you take.

If you come and ask for advice and people point out you didn't take the best option while you know full well they aren't the best option you can't be mad when they give you that advice.

Not being mean but we're making a lot of assumptions here and even if winning is all that matters then maybe he should still learn the game before jumping into a tournament and expecting to win.

>Looks away for a second
>Comes back to this shit

Holy shit you guys are WAY too wound up!

I was referring to which elite armies are playable and which ones just dont work.

In GH there are allegiances that provide elite themed armies, these armies are generally low number but strong models.

The question wasnt a "GIVE ME THE BEST REEEEE" but more of a "Which elite armies are actually playable"...

Like Soulblight are an example of a "good" elite army, they have cool core with the blood knights, the knights are durable yet still provide powerful attacks and they also have a wealthy supply of support units in their specific allegiance.

Everchosen ( hint I play these guys) are a meme army. They have the strongest cavalry in the game, but they only have Gaunt Summoners and Archaon for support unless you summon. They are limited in selection and model number and thus aren't "good" as a stand alone army outside of their theme.

But no, you jackoffs go off on tangents again like your anus's have to do your talking for you as usual.

I know... What's the fucking point in coming here anymore. It's always just the same few chimps having tantrums.

Yeah... what a complete pile of douchnozles.

They are so freaking wound up they forgot to just have FUN with the game...

When a simple question turns into a fire storm... it simply proved the naysayers right.

I'm making a wight king/general of my army out of Vlad the Dark champion from warmachine, sculpting him so he looks like Arthas, and you kids are worried about proxies. It's a game for fuck sakes. I'd play against someone using paper to represent models if it meant we would play and have fun. That's the whole point.

Any pics, because that sounds awesome!

i like you

>this entire post
No, user. Pre-GHB we were telling people that if someone was being a faggot with their armies, avoid them. That's all fine and good if you're in a casual meta and the most games you play are at a game night, but there are many who live in a competitive meta. In my local meta we have weekend tournaments twice a month at one LGS, and several running game nights including a very popular Matched League at our GW store. If you go to these events, you're playing that game. If you go to a game night and people are playing Open Play, that's what you're playing.

These WAAC boogeymen we're all accusing each other of being have been here the entire fucking time, we just buried our heads in the sand to their existence. We're just bundled up in our own experiences and telling each other that this is the way things are supposed to be rather than realizing there's more than one way to play and enjoy the game and you can enjoy all of them.

I'll post pictures tonight, I just started and had to run out. So far I only have a shoulder piece though

Did the argumentative assholes kill the thread? Wow.
Alright, let's revive this.

>Question Time:
What was your most awesome moment in AoS so far? What was memorable? What made you happy to be a part of the game?

For me it was my very first game, which had so many cool scenes like
>My Chaos Sorcerer and a Battlemage fighting each other in melee and the Chaos Sorcerer finishing the fight with his puny 4+/4+/-/1 sword
>Gutrot Spume keeping a Griffon from killing him by keeping his tentacles wrapped firmly around the Griffon's beak for four rounds of combat
>a unit of Empire Knights rushing into my Plague Drones, not dealing a single wound and dying right then and there
>a whole fucking bunch of people complimenting my Rotbringers for their paintjob and the little conversions, especially great because they're the first army I ever completely painted before fielding them for the first time

Man you nailed it. This is what this game is about to be honest. I joined because "points, now we can play" but got mixed up in all these fun scenarios. Hell, this game is only as epic as you want it to be!

I have been playing Skaven for a while and have been feeling like That-guy since I have been rolling Clan Skryre's mortal wound spam list without realizing it, and I vowed myself off of it. I love the characters and danger of running Skryre, but the looks my opponents have been giving me while I fight them are scarred into my brain. I've been playing a decent clan Verminus battalion so far, so many clan rats.

Shit happens.

I played a game last Thursday where I had fully buffed storm fiends with the shock gauntlets, and wiffed SO hard. Got 19 hits on judicators, 2 wounds. Didn't even kill one.

I love Age of Sigmar though, it's been a blast so far, even before General's handbook was out.

My favorite moment came from my first game as well. I was running Brets with Louencouer, 15 Knights of the realm, 5 grail Knights, and 30 peasant bowmen. My opponent was playing Khorne Daemons. Since this was almost immediately after the drop of AoS, we had no points Wales to work off of. Anyway, at the very end of the game, it was down to 10 of my archers and his soul grinder with one wound. It was his turn, so his grinder killed 5 or 6 of my peasants. My 4 or 5 remaining men go on to kill the monster, winning me the game!

Are you all ready for Grombrindal[/spoiler] the Proud?

Thanks Veeky Forums. Why do spoiler tags in words sometimes disappear, but sometimes don't?

>Tomb Kings are coming back

>They will be called The Eternal Legions

Welp, time to sell my stormcast

Sauce?

And if we could do without the "the Simpsons" answers that'd be fantabulous.

it's like you dont enjoy fun

I don't assume the game has to be about winning.

It's just not fun if neither of you or even one of you isn't really trying

Step right up for your grade A bullshit right here!

>I don't assume the game is about winning
>but it's not fun if both players aren't doing their damnedest to win

I don't really follow your logic here. You're trying to say that you don't really care about winning, yet when the idea of someone playing some sub-optimal list because they like the models comes up you get all bent out of shape?

Trying to make the 'best' army is just dull anyway. There is inevitably one netlist to rule them all for each army because there is only one truly 'best' way of squeezing your points for effectiveness, and that means you're going to be seeing the same armies over and over and over again if you play against people who are trying their hardest to win.

Because it's fun even if you don't win? Knowing you tried your best

All your posts are tl;Dr. I swear you actually have autism or something or maybe just a disability irl That makes you jaded at not being able to compete

>prioritising having fun with other players using armies made up of models you like
>Vs.
>saying that the only acceptable way to play is to min/max the shit out of everything otherwise it doesn't count and getting all in a tizzy when somebody disagrees with how you think the game should be played

Mate, one of those looks much more like autism than the other.

when they say models you "like" they mean ascetically, not rules wise. In the land of autismo its not possible to like models that function well unless they are also the coolest models in their view of what is a cool looking model.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_mind
I actually used an example of that while writing a paper on theory of mind.

>tfw my favourite looking Dwarf unit is the most powerful

I mean, there are worse things to spam than Ironbreakers, but somehow I have a feeling not many people would want to play against an Ironbreaker/Irondrake heavy list.

>"Theory of mind (often abbreviated ToM) is the ability to attribute mental states—beliefs, intents, desires, pretending, knowledge, etc.—to oneself and others and to understand that others have beliefs, desires, intentions, and perspectives that are different from one's own."

Hang on, aren't you literally failing at that right now by insisting that people who like to play with models they find aesthetically pleasing are playing the game wrong and are also autistic? That doesn't seem to be very understanding of the fact that other people have different opinions to you and suchlike.

And as for buying models solely for the rules, if the model is shit then why should I bother sinking hours and hours of my time into building and painting something I don't even like? Does refusing to buy the best-performing model in the game because I don't want to spend time and money on a crudely-sculpted penis with a smiley face on it make me autistic?

no, i fully understand what they want to play a game of toy soldiers with models they think look pretty. What I am mocking is the anger they have for people that dont do the same while complaining they cant win the game because they are all WAACfags or in some other way playing the game wrong

Oh fuck off the lot of you. Your all shitters that clog the thread with your passive aggressive bullshit that doesnt matter AT ALL, your all meaningless and your arguments are all stupid. You wasteful trash.

As for the rest of you here are a few pictures of stuff I have been working on starting with the Varanguard I just finished!

...

And the Gaunt Summoner, almost done with the bloke, just need to get his disk done, fix his book, and base the bugger!

Don't be a cunt, all I said was my favourite dwarf unit wouldn't be fun to play against if j used it to much.

Sorry, I caught you in the crossfire mate! Their babbling is just all over the place. Didnt mean to hit an innocent!

That's one for the book.

Dang those look pretty hot! I like the highlighting on the armor plates!

dumb question here:

I have a unit of 6 saurus knights with lances. The unit may include a wardrum, and may include a banner. When it comes to attacking, do I get 6 attacks with lances if I take both a drum and a banner?

Should a unit always take their musician and standard bearer?

Damn. It's going to be about $40 for the miniature+shipping, but I reckon this mini will sell out very quickly and I need to be quick with the order button.

I usually get stuff from my LGS to avoid exorbitant shipping charges, but my LGS is really shoddy with getting orders in on time. It would be likely that by the time he calls his rep to order one, it will be 2 weeks out of stock, so i never get limited quantity stuff through him.

You don't sacrifice attacks when using standards and musicians. They count as having the weapons.

If you could model the weapon on them that's also a bonus.

Are the points costs in the GH petty balanced? This chaos warrior / demon stuff seems really cheap

There are a few inconsistencies, but on the whole it is widely regarded as a pretty good way to play. Formations costing points is a huge step in the right direction for that.

PLaying triumph and treachery, 1000k pts, my stormcast vs undead vs Slaves to darkness, playing for the the Artifact of power, only model left on the table on the last turn is my Retributer prime, who split his attacks and killed a Chaos Sorcerer and a Vampire lord, both with 2 wounds left!

Triumph and treachery is so much fun actually had a 3 way tie in mine also 1000pts

Love me some triumph and treachery games. Won as moonclan versus mixed destruction versus freeguild on a fields of blood I think it is called? The one where you have to hold the center. I stole the center with my surviving archers forcing the freeguilder's halverdiers off the center after he tabled the mixed players force. It was great

It is the most fun ive had with AOS. ive played three games of artifact and My Celestant and Dracoth always gets to it first, then being Honorable Stormcast, i sit and challenge the other generals to take it from me, even if they are way stronger lol.

Do you guys have any favorite battleplans? I'm fairly new to the game, so it's hard for me to picture how certain battleplans will play just by reading them. It seems like there's tons of them throughout the various books, and it'll take a long time for me to try them all.
Does anyone have recommendations for fun scenarios from the books? If I were more familiar with the intricacies of the game and/or playing with my old friends, I'd make something up, but I've moved and don't know people at this store vertu well. It's easier to find someone by saying "Hey want to pay this battleplan from Book" than finding someone who wants to play a totally custom made up scenario.
Also, no need for perfectly balanced tournament scenarios, lopsided and characterful battleplans are certainly welcome. Furthermore, if any of you have made custom battleplans, I'd still like to see them, cuz I might be able to use them someday.

Hardmode: recommend a good battleplan for a small but hero heavy game. (I want to try the 8 hero blood bound formation as my whole army).

TL;DR - What battleplans do you guys like?

Pic semi related, it's some various Bloodbound models in working on.

Is painting warpstone blades as easy as this? I'm worried it would look shit as the blade is all straight edges

I've been wanting to try the battleplan Pre-emptive Strike, I don't know which book it's originally in, I just got it from the big pdf in the general's OP. It has one side defending a realm gate and the other side has to destroy the realm gate. The gate can only be hurt by melee, and both sides can bring in reinforcements each turn. I saw a battle report of it and looked like fun. Problem being, none of my friends have any interest in AoS and I'd be hard pressed to get pick up game at a gameshop that isn't one of the Matched play scenarios. At least I might be able to try it when I drive up to Canada to visit my internet friend who's into the game.

Why is he stabbing his book? It did nothing wrong.

Hey if you're close to the Kingston/Watertown border I'd love to give it a shot.

This is the progress so far on Arthas

Bought the Generals handbook yesterday, goddamn if my next purchase (after the get started) box has to be the game starter and I have no place to offload the Khorne.. Maybe another faction for myself isn't too bad...
