Went to Firelight Game's website, there's a 20 minute interview with his daughter. Apparently the japanese studio just started making the books and crediting Alfred Leonardi and lost worlds. He heard about it via email from a fan and was excited to hear about it, but also pushed for a royalties contract. He also designed new characters.

He is relatively well known in Italy, but I don't think has any international followers since the bulk of his work (which is pretty great, funny and really politically uncorrect) is in italian.

The stand-alone expansion Satiri e Baccanti, set in mythological ancient greece, is a far superior game than the original. Even the art is better; it's less funny, though, if you're not into classical literature and myth.
