I think things might've actually been better when nazi mod was in charge

Best girl/10

My nigga.

Stat me, Veeky Forums.

Deception +4.

Stat me. Veeky Forums.

1 or 2 levels in Wizard or Warlock and a tonne in Rogue.
Also this.

level 1 Bard

Some day he'll reach 20 and be pic related

Level 12 Brutal Garçon.

Dude wishes he was as bard as the crow.

Now eat your meat.

So what would be the best build for a caster pretending to be someone pretending to be a caster?

High charisma. Never let anyone see you casting magic, only let them see the after affects then explain it way as some kind of mundane thing. If you have to only let them see you casting lvl 1 magic but make a big deal about it.

5e: Fey Warlock, using all the at-will illusion shit they can get to pretend to be a Cleric or Druid.

INT: 6 WIS:4

Entirely based on choice of shirt.

+5 on CHA checks vs. weebs

Hid choice of shirt was wise as fuck for that scene.

The lesson for you here is that you shouldn't start a thread about the best girl with a simple "stat me".

Seriously though, I think Kaiki would be a high-level Rogue with no multiclassing whatsoever with his highest Stats being WIS and CHA, quite a lot of DEX and second to no CON.

What's his alignment though? Chaotic Neutral?

He does know a bit of magic as transferring the bee demonstrates.

Wasn't the bee simply a hoax? I thought it was something akin to hypnosis, but maybe I just misunderstood it

>believing Kaiki
Looks like he's better than you gave him credit for.

Nah brah, the bee was real.

He played Ararara like a fiddle because he didn't want to actually kill a little girl. He still made off like a bandit with all that dosh and anyone who might have looked into it thought Araragi solved the case.

Everything was just as kaikaku.

Damn, I'm fucking confused now.

So he was only faking to be a fake? I'm really not sure what to think anymore.

Next you're going to tell me that his name isn't even Suzuki

Yeah man he was pulling the ol'double bluff.

That was his real name, unless those other two specialists are pulling our leg but I'm pretty sure they know the real deal.

Unless he was conning them in his preteens.

How 'bout me, Veeky Forums?

Nice shirt.

10/meme

Full rogue, and the truest of neutrals- he is not even evil or malicious, he just gives no fucks. Actually, a good guideline to playing an interesting "I don't care" N character.
>Unless he was conning them in his preteens.
He was conning them into thinking he was conning man. Kaiki is classy.
That's expertise: deception also let's not act like we don't all now that everything related to monsters in monogatari is just a metaphor for teenage life issues. Best metaphor I have ever seen tho.

Dank/10

So the bee he put in Veeky Forums sis; real or fake?

Str 10
Dex 10
Con 14
Int 14
Wis 18
Cha 16

Feats: Skill Focus (Bluff), Skill Focus (Sleight of Hand)

All skill ranks into bluff, diplomacy and sleight of hand.

>con 14

Dude got brained by a 13 year old.

If anything his dex should be higher to account for lock picking and stealth skills.

He also easily outran Kanbaru, guy is fast as fuck but goes down with a single hit by a middle schooler.

Did he? Was she in monkey kill mode? I forget.

He survived, though.

Movement speed isn't really a function of dex, though. If anything, that's con (or str) as well.

Did he, user?

Did he really?

Well I mean, yeah. You see him with a beard and everything.

Simple: 5e DnD, Arcane Domain Theurge Wizard.
Become a wizard trying to be a cleric trying to be a wizard.
Get wish at level 14.

Are you suuuure that's him user? Reeeeeeeaallllyyy?

This thread is really giving me headache.

Was he a ghost in Hanamonogatari? Did he trick me into thinking he was alive or is he now tricking me to believe him to be a ghost?

Was he actually struck down by that middle schooler or was that part just made up? Is this ever even mentioned by other characters?

Mind you, I'm still currently watching Hanamonogatari so I might sound pretty stupid

If only we knew.

Thanks mate. Nearly lost the thread.

He probably is alive..We haven't encountered any reason why he might not be in the anime. I have not read the LN though.

Pretty much impossible, his whole character is based on deceiving everyone, even the audience.
It'd be easier to stat the Araragi siblings or kiss-shot or Kanbaru's rainy devil mode or something. In fact, pretty much anyone else.
He's pretty damn fast for a (supposedly) normal human, but hasn't shown superhuman abilities like some of the other members from the occult research club. He'd be a pretty neat dude to base an npc off though.

Maybe both. The supernatural is based off human perception. Perhaps it started as hypnosis, but the belief was so strong it created an actual oddity.

This thread is making me want to run a monogatari themed freestyle game, basic stats and a 3d6 system, mostly made up on the fly. Any tips? I figure PCs should be normal humans, just discovering something abnormal. One, maybe two mysterious npcs that know about aberrations. Perhaps a curse affects one player, everyone is trying to get rid of it. Mysterious character is an npc who can solve it for a steep price. Characters don't want to pay them (duh), but npc only gives vague hints because it amuses them to watch the pcs struggle to solve it. Can anyone help me flesh out the idea? Any good curses or anything?

First and foremost, and I know I'll get flak for this, don't be afraid of changing the truth. If players stumble upon the truth of the plot early on change it but make sure it makes sense. That is to say don't make what they know a lie just add to it. Another twist, another NPC that has a hidden piece of the puzzle that maybe they didn't realize mattered. Be consistent, but from your post I think you understand how things work.

Let's see. Curses. ell that depends on what region this would take place in. A bit, at least. If you are allowing folklore from other countries in whatever area it takes place in that could factor in the story.

Maybe the PC has no recordable identity? Their name can't be written down. They can't have their picture taken. All info regarding them just stops at a certain point, even if others keep interacting with them. The secret is that they are a changeling but don't know it. The real them was taken to fairy land. Unfortunately fairy magic can't change bureaucracy. They don't change in any way from a normal person until whenever you decide to bring back the real them and then you make changes as you see fit. Or don't.

Or! The PCs' shadow has gone. They must find it before they fade away. The shadows left to enact their innermost hidden desires. A string of crimes can be linked to the shadows by the players figuring out each others desires./spoiler]

Shadow one is pretty legit. It's something they could get by without, since their clothes would still have shadows, but it'd certainly be something they'd want to solve. Plus, you know, the whole fading away eventually thing.

If one goes too long without finding theirs you could have a moment where it seems the shadow, having fulfilled most of it's desires, looks mostly human. Maybe it seems happier and more well adjusted than its owner. Then you wonder which one should stay and have a little bit of monologuing about which is more real, the shadow that truly lives, regardless of any wrongs it does, or the person who lives by principles that stops them from being a chaotic selfish jackass. Or a moral fag who just can't stand by while bad shit happens anymore.

I think it's important to know the characters before deciding on a curse as most of the times they reflect the characters shortcomings or traumas in some sort of way.

Otherwise, go for something simple that nonetheless create tension and conflict between characters. Something like "X must always speak the truth" or "X has to answer all questions truthfully". This would also be easily integrated into a characters past and a trauma he has to overcome.

Making the apparations expert into a overly vague and teasing NPC sounds good to me, especially when a player himself is cursed. The cursed one has to defeat the curse by character strenght, so the the expert only dropping small hints sound best.

I'm really not quite sure though if a Monogatari would work that well though. The series is so character and dialogue driven that you'd need very dedicated players. I think going completly freeform would also be a good decision unless you want to include the over-the-top fighting sequences as well

yeah, thinking about it freeform is the way to go. The excessive violence in the series only works because of Araragi's regeneration, and in a mystery game there's no fun if you just roll INT and WIS checks through everything.

Yeah you're gonna need players who love roleplaying their characters talking for hours on end about tangentially related subjects if you want to make this Bakemonogatari-ish and not just fantastical mystery thriller.
