1) That's mighty fortified for a "village". You typically don't see full-on stone walls until you're dealing with a fair sized city. Perhaps Eaton Village is the next settlement down the road, and that's the name of the gatehouse?
2) For a road leading directly from / to a gate, it's absolute garbage. The Powers That Be will at least maintain the stretch at the gates, lest a broken axle or a lamed ox keep the whole thing tied down for hours.
3) Trees adjacent to / hanging right the fuck over a fortified position -- are you on drugs? Is this thing completely abandoned? That's like having an impenetrable fortress with a wide-open back gate.

I'd say that it's abandoned, and the 'village' is in the remnants of what ever settlement it was made for.
