No, the one I'm talking about is a bit older. It started with 3 columns of power: physical, magical and something else. Then you picked a great beast and an army. Finally some minions and "companions". There was an expansion too that let you pick some challenges and a unique artifact, one of which was a sword that could split a mountain.

The premise was you being the reborn dark lord or something.

Yes, more than the default of two. It says you can handle three. It also says that classes beyond the first have a price reduced from two points each to one point each. And if you used your creative reasoning abilities, like the common core suggests, you would know that "three free plus as many as you want more" is utterly retarded and thus clearly not what was meant.

hey, guy who posted the manga WIP last thread here. Sorry for the late reply, but thanks everyone who replied to my question. I'd get to everyone but Veeky Forums just gobbled up my reply and it's pretty late here. In summary, though, its a yes to pretty much everything that was suggested. Historical, horror, shonen, magical girl, sci-fi, mecha, space opera, etc. are all boxes waiting to be checked. Traps are in, both as characters and a character enhancement. Genderbender is in. Various deres are in. Yaoi is a go for sure: Ideally I'd like things to be really versatile, so there are no set husbandos / waifus. Instead, you'll give whomever you like the "romance" enhancement panel or something.

Just because one doesn't want to make more cyoa doesn't mean they don't like cyoa.

There are at least three ways that the wording of the rules could be interpreted.

You could for example argue that 'extra' means that you can use 1 point to expand your limit of classes that you are capable of teaching past three, but you still have to pay two points for every class that you teach beyond the first.
I don't think anyone is arguing for this version, but it is possible.

The rules of a CYOA can be likened to laws, and being able to see the different interpretations is a valuable skill.
I chose to apply the most lenient interpretation because I often treat CYOAs as puzzles, and try to get the most I can out of them.
Not that your interpretation ruins my build, yes I lose +3 halo, and the unnecessary (to me) +2 deviency. But I also get back 3 points, and can take Cheeky for 1 more. [I could also switch to Seniel for 1 more, and switch to Jocks for 1 more if it was necessary]
Friend gets me back to +6 Halo, so really nothing of value has been lost.

Granted I prefered my interpretation of me being a renaissance man type of a teacher who inspired students to become interested in learning, and help each other study without me having to hold their hand.
I'm done arguing about common core, since it has so little to do with /cyoag/ beyond my personal build.

Brainiac states you can teach 3 subjects. Not you can teach 3 additional subjects. So with brainiac 3 is the total amount of subjects you can teach and they cost 1 pt less. This includes your free subject because the max you can teach is 3. 3 is the number of the classes, the number of the classes is 3. 5 is right out. Once the number 3, being the 3rd number has been reached. Useth thou your other points to buy other stuff.

I run into this with MtG a lot. You think that the rules are 100% clear, but the way that they were written does not exclude the possibility of reading it differently

I get the noble premise behind making sure that a high school diploma would be worth more if it guaranteed a certain set of skills.
And I suppose that a great teacher can work around it and not be hindered too much.

It is the extra levels of secrecy, the inherent monopoly created for the publishing companies, the counterproductive system of incentives, coupled with the painfully flawed teaching methods that make both teachers and students work extra hard that make it stand out.
