take the release and just run the binarys instead
building git might be confusing if you havent done that before

just open a terminal in the directory
create a wallet:
./simplewallet
press G then enter the file name for the wallet(life wallet.dat) to create and enter the password for the wallet
then launch the daemon to fetch the blockchain
./Turtlecoind
when its done the simplewallet will be synced and you can start mining
./miner --address (address of the wallet you have generated with the simplewallet)
