Switching bodies is a thing in 40k. Please refer to the perils of the warp sheet. It's one of the possible mishaps.

Ten novels ago they estimated that the series would be 50 books long. If they maintain the same level of detail they’ve been doing, they should cover the following:

The Webway War
The Blood Angels getting to Terra
Anvilus being taken by the traitors
Another Space Wolves book (Chris Wraight is working on it)
The Death Guard falling to Nurgle (Typhon and Mortarion separately)
World Eaters go Khornate
The Thousand Sons join the traitors
Invasion of the Solar System
Martian Civil War part 2
Siege of Terra (probably more than one book)
Caliban
A concluding book of some sort – Golden Throne, maybe some Scouring, probably the adoption of the Codex Astartes

Some of those can be combined, but it’d be strange if the last ten books didn’t introduce any new stories. We’ve had a lot of those so far, things that didn’t exist in the older fluff.

At the Horus Heresy weekender BL editor Laura Goulding pretty much confirmed that:

A.) The HH series is going to end sooner than people think, though it isn't going to end soon. Basically, they've just approached the "final act", i.e. Terra, which will be a huge event

B.) After the HH series ends, there's probably going to be a Great Scouring series

C.) After after or during the Great Scouring series, they're looking at doing a Unification Wars series
