As with any "anyone can edit" type website (tv tropes comes to mind) there's obviously gonna be a lot of garbage.
That being said, when I stumbled upon 1d4chan, I was surprised at the overall level of quality. Many articles had a tone that was both informative about their subject matter and pleasantly conversational. Maybe it was a bit silly at times, but I found the enthusiasm infectious.
DESU it was what got me into Veeky Forums (previously, my only experience with Veeky Forums had been /v/, which gave me a very low opinion of the website as a whole), and perhaps table top games in general (I had been on the fence until then, but it was after spending a night browsing the place that I decided to take the dive and join a friends group).
