What sort of weird interactions have you had between magic and machine? Free spirits abducting programmers to teach them how to Matrix? E-ghosts who think they're from a crazy metaplane? Merrow living in a sunken freighter, using the cargo arm to snatch ships passing by on the surface? Health spells woven around a street sammy until he was an unstoppable juggernaut of magic meat and chrome?
>there are people in this thread RIGHT NOW that think "Chummer" is an insult What a bunch of drekheads
Cameron King
I just punched my friend for calling me "buddy". What a cunt.
Easton Wright
Well that's disappointing. I was hoping people would say differently so we could have:
>Wear nice suit >take K10 >Hulk Out
Adam Murphy
If you'd called me "chummer" I'd gaze at you angrily.
Michael Barnes
I honestly find it disturbing that so many people recommend using a drug that can make your character effectively a cyberpsycho. I'm not the only one who thinks like this now am I?
Joseph Thomas
If you think that he wouldn't use cyber then adept is pretty much your only bet. But if you ask me, I find it less likely that Franky would use magic than that he would have some form of ware be it cyber or bio.
John Bell
(Reposting from last thread, cus I'm a drekkopf) Last game, one of my players asked me when I'm going to have recurring antagonists in the game. One badguy from the last game, (a rigger hitman), will become an NPC, but I need a true challenge for the party. Frank Castle is my inspiration for the homicidal vigilante who shoots up honest BTL dens and destroys mafia casinos, but should he be an adept, or a Street Samurai? The Punisher isn't the type to use cyberware, I don't think.
Aiden Moore
If he uses magic, he isn't aware of it. Fronk is superhuman in a certain subtle sense.
Tyler Hernandez
...
Lucas Turner
No. People in /srg/ always talk about drugs without talking about what it's actually likely to use them.
In the sense that Batman is magic, because regular humans would and could never do the things those guys do.
He's a Recon Marine who cross-trained with SEALs and Airborne. In Shadowrun, he'd definitely be cybered up to the gills, Pain Editor, Wired Reflexes and Platelet Factory absolute minimum.
Christian Roberts
I feel like adepts could be reskinned as a badass who seems to be almost superhuman, unless you get the really obvious powers.
James Mitchell
Average street samurai.jpg
Alexander Harris
I believe a lot of lesser adepts are just viewed as very skilled people. Like, you don't have super human speed but you definitely have quick reactions. Until someone checks the guys aura or something
Oliver Miller
Ask yourself, how prepared are you?
Zachary Clark
Two questions:
Can dodge be used against Ranged attacks? The wording in the core rulebook seems to indicate that ONLY normal defense, and full-defense can be used against ranged attacks, which makes sense to me.
And also, can someone provide me with a example of play of a full combat scene? It can be from an actual play episode, text or even created by yourself, I'd just like to see how combat normally goes in the game to see if there's anything I'm missing, and to get a feel of the game before I actually play it.
Landon White
That always made me laugh, mostly because of how out there 'Age - 36 Caliber' sounded. It's not even ridiculously edgy, just nonsensical.
What said. It's really easy to be a mundane seeming Adept. IIRC, a lot of the early Adepts were initially seen as just really talented or lucky.
Implant weapon. And sometimes a back-up pistol-finger.
Henry Sullivan
This was written by someone who has never held a gun.

Loaded with stick'n'shock or something else?

Could my character use frangible ammo in his legally owned caseless weapon, making said weapon be unlinkable to a crime, forensically?
Brayden Thomas
One with APDS, one with Flechette.

He is more of a weapons specialist. So points in infiltration, guns and gun related trades with crime and military tactics
Or use a life module and use it make Frank Castle to give you an idea of what he is like
Adrian Wood
So non-main weapons? All hidden within my cyberarm, monofilament whip, silenced light pistol, and a grappling fist. Then I've got a survival knife in my boot. But so far I have only had to bust out the whip to deal with getting melee rushed.
Daniel Cox
Yes, at least ballistically. You also have to consider that a legal gun might use it's internal RFIDs to broadcast it's license to any scanner in handshake range, which is less than ideal.
Isaac Nelson
> back-up pistol finger
Remember to train your finger-pistol fighting skills daily.
I meant in terms of karma. He said that's non-main, and it's 4-5 different weapons skills, two of them Exotics that have very specific uses. Even if he wanted to be only decent with them (R3-4), it's hella expensive.
Adam Gonzalez
A in skills, dump skill group points in guns, buy into the exotic skills. Blades and Unarmed are at 0 but since I have 10 agi in the cyber arm I could handle myself if I needed too, the knife is my absolute last ditch effort.
William Martin
Probably has sky high Agi to compensate for low skill.
Luis Torres
Three words: Weaponized Cyber Nipples.
Nolan Martin
That reminds me of one of the All Cyber Man builds I went for. A gun in every cyberlimb.
You want head shots? He can shoot from the head.
Dick shots? Probably what the weapon in the cyber-torso gives out.
Want to show off those guns? .... Well, that's probably actually a problem because you've possibly got them literally coming out your ass too.

'sup Veeky Forums. I'm making my second SR character ever, first for 5e, and first mage. I'm planning on going for more of a support mage build than a pure heavy hitter, but I'm kind of not entirely certain that I did a decent job with it, and I figured I'd get a second opinion from people more used to it than I.
Primary concerns are that while going elf allows me a greater maximum charisma for dealing with spirits and tanking drain, I'm not entirely sure where I can dump from to make up the points to have a high charisma other than maybe reaction or intuition, which would hurt my defenses. I'm considering to a charisma-based tradition, and have my eye on Shinto for its selection of spirits. Commlink is sorta shit, but I'm planning on slaving it to our decker's deck, and if that fails, a fairlight caliban (with an installed carrier program with virtual machine probably running an agent and wrapper if need be).
The GM's houseruled that glasses and contacts are more google glass than oculus rift in that they can be cast through, meaning that smartlink, image link and flare compensation do not detract from seeing through them for direct target spells (ofc, this doesn't meant that I can target someone that I'm only seeing through an image link), whereas visual enhancement, magnification, low-light and thermographic are off limit for said spells. Alchemy's also been hit with a series of buffs to make it not terrible, including only rolling once when the preparation is made for its stats, lasting until sunrise to remove the tedium of tracking when they were made, not needing to learn the spell twice to cast it via Spellcasting and making preparations via Alchemy, and making fetishes work for alchemical preparations, all of which are open to being removed if they're found to imbalance the game too much. Due to our working for a corp, we've been told to not bother with fake sins and licenses, and that if a given job requires a fake sin, it would be supplied.
Sheet attached.

How do I make the most Max Payne of Max Payneable character for SR4th.
Austin Wilson
I don't know. It could be quite payneful to pull off.
Aaron Phillips
...
Dominic Rogers
>The GM's houseruled that glasses and contacts are more google glass than oculus rift in that they can be cast through Isn't that how those work normally? First of all they're clear surfaces, and you can already cast though clear things, secondly, the whole point to those is that mages can use them.
Cooper Parker
EDGE MONKEY. Adepts can get fucked by mages, and Street Sams can get fucked by deckers, but Edge Monkeys can only be be killed by dice rolls.
Give him as much edge as possible. Make him a human, and give him Revels in Murder from Chromeflesh. Give him a chem seal so that he doesn't die due to gas based weapons. If you get any 'ware, make it bio so that it can't be bricked by deckers.
Zachary Ross
Hey, chummers, how would a Moderate-tier Compulsion manifest itself?
Cooper Reyes
Bump
Tyler Bennett
Is there any concrete guideline about the gun being mandated to broadcast that?
Liam Hall
I'm fairly certain dodge is purely for melee. Most ranged attacks are gonna be from guns, and people don't tend to actually dodge bullets.
Cameron Thomas
Why are Street Sam fucked by deckers? Don't most people keep their cybernetics offline?
Gabriel Brooks
perhaps for the recurrent antagnist idea he wants it's a triumverate of chrome, adept, and they are lead by an edge-monkey.
Jeremiah Young
...not in 5e...
Carter Taylor
As a general thing, a legal whatever doesn't have to broadcast anything or be online, but it can definitely be sketchy. (IIRC, though, you want to at least be broadcasting any licenses you have just to not get attention.)
Like, if you have a gun and a KE guy sees it, but not the gun's icon, they're likely to at least ask something.
Can probably be waved off with the thing being bricked or the like, but too much stealth can also be visible in its own way.
Aiden Miller
That sounds like a good way to do it, honestly. A lot easier to make an eldritch pact than it is to use metahuman magical knowledge for cyberzombies.
James Reyes
It is. Unless they're doing something like using some kind of zoom in the glasses, which is a digital image being projected.
Hunter Peterson
Most non-runner types are going to rely on their Commlink's firewalls or the firewalls of the company's spider or host and keep stuff online 24/7.
Josiah Carter
Even in 5e, it's not worth it usually to have your cybernetics connected to the Matrix unless you've got a novahot PAN.
Nolan Ross
>Player's cyberware list has TWO cyberdicks >Character is female
Isaac Wright
Same user.
If you want to be a dick as well, you can have every piece of edge he uses to keep himself alive once he's killed.
If I was you, I'd put your runners on gray runs, and
Leo Lewis
You could definitely cut down Intuition to a 3 or 4 and Body to 3 (because even BOD and WIL don't grant additional boxes)to bump your Charisma to a peak. Or just keep the Wicca INT tradition, ship the BOD point to CHA, and still be pretty darn competent at handling spirits.
Other than that, nothing outrageous. Can't tell what you're good for other than magic (not spectacular at social skills, infiltrating, driving, or any other subroles) but that can be worked out in play.
Liam Brown
So I have a drone in mind that is essentially a glass cannon mini jet that will serve as a strike craft. The question I have is what non explosive weapon should I be using to maximize vehicle fighting. I was thinking a high damage belt fed assault rifle w/tracer and ADPS rounds.
Jace Mitchell
Are bioware weapons any good? Specifically looking at the claws and the electrical discharge.
Cameron Sanders
Another prime runner I considered was an ork had a special made bioware pig's nose, titanium plated tusks, a mohawk, and pink square-framed glasses. Yes, I know. But the idea was the dude was a dedicated bounty hunter for the gangs in Redmond. The players royally pissed off the Halloweeners by murdering their favorite punk band, so I need a flamboyant character to add contrast to the grimdark ones.
give that boy a hammer, a BIG one, because hammers are TOO SUBTLE FOR YOU.
Robert Gonzalez
How do I Chummer to PDF so I can post a character in this thread for critique?
Or do I even want to do that? Suddenly, showing my character off to a bunch of anons seems like maybe a bad idea
Colton Diaz
It's normal to show your character off here.
Brandon Ramirez
Print to PDF. Don't put your name on it like a retard.
Brandon Morris
How, as a DM, can I discourage min/maxing?
Do I outright tell them to not do it? Do I make buying stuff and learning stuff actual part of the game? (As in, they have to actually track down and find someone who will have the bodymod they want, and then someone to do the surgery).
Charles Adams
>How about a browser based chummer? There's Omae, which isn't super feature complete aside from the awesome 80s aesthetic. heyomae.github.io/ Get a PDF printer like CutePDF or something. Most PDF readers include one.
Jonathan Nelson
I don't understand why you would need wireless connections to your cyberware, it's literally attached to your body wouldn't you just have a "wired" connection to them?
Juan Sullivan
Shields Fly down and shield bash people at super fast speeds. Just do sniper rifles like everyone else does, any other weapon will be useless at such long ranges.
Matthew Watson
Some of them make a degree of sense, for example Vision Enhancement probably pulls data from other sources (eg cameras, other Vision Enhancement users) to help fill in the gaps, and Smartlink needs wireless to talk to your gun; others are just weird, like Wired Reflexes/Reaction Enhancers.
That said, there's also Internal Router, so you don't have to worry about it.
Hudson Lee
>That said, there's also Internal Router, so you don't have to worry about it.
I don't like what the internal router represents.
It's like they did acknowledge that they fucked up their editing and that Wireless Bonus was used for stuff that really just needed a DNI signal or to be part of your PAN Network, and that as-written those bonuses still needed a full matrix subscription to function.
But instead of an actual fix they put it behind a piece of cyberware that's as expensive and essence-heavy as a cyberarm.
Grayson Allen
Just ask them to keep the min/maxing down, if someone is causing issues, take them aside and ask them to tone down the character, if they're somehow still an issue, study their character sheet and constantly throw their weakness at them, min/maxing by definition will have huge weaknesses in some areas that can be exploited. Or you could just boulder them I guess.
You should consider using buying rules anyways, a lot of items are balanced by their availability and legality.
Grayson Fisher
I was thinking a sniper rifle too but it just seems weird to have a drone sniping people at mach 3. I guess otherwise It would have to be some serious math hammer like an edgy full auto called shot with all the trimmings.
Landon Ortiz
>Just ask them to keep the min/maxing down Good advice >if someone is causing issues, take them aside and ask them to tone down the character Great advice >if they're somehow still an issue, study their character sheet and constantly throw their weakness at them, min/maxing by definition will have huge weaknesses in some areas that can be exploited. Bad advice.
Don't play the system-mastery game with people. If people are causing problems, talk to them. If they keep causing problems, talk to them again. If they STILL are causing problems, don't let them play, tell them clearly why their behavior is an issue, and in general treat them like a rational adult instead of a child.
Anthony Wood
What drone specifically? The Wolfhound (the microjet in R5) only has 1 mod point available, probably specifically so people couldn't make a flock of supersonic murderbots.
With 1 point, you can only put a light/holdout pistol on it (which have shit range, and any GM worth his salt will rule you can get maybe 1 shot off at a penalty as the thing streaks past following the rules in the Maximum Pursuit chapter of R5), or a single grenade, which is the most practical choice. it can also mount reach 0 melee weapons, so put a shock glove on the front and give people electric high fives to the face at 800 km an hour
Nathan Jackson
Human with gunslinger with maximum Edge.
Easton Collins
I was actually looking at the Ares garuda drone missile. It has base 2 mod points and a few more points can get scraped out of the stats and body for what 4-5 points total?
Daniel King
While the dig at SR editing is waranted often, this isn't one of those cases. I meant that I could have phrased what they were replying to better
Levi Russell
Being wired to your cyber doesn't prevent those wires becoming damaged. It's not like shadowrunning is a sedate desk job.
Kevin Williams
Well it still fits against SR itself. If the system has combat drugs in such a central role, why not clearly mention them in the rules?
Isaiah Edwards
...
Isaiah Hall
No, yeah, I know. I'm just saiyan that *that* particular dig was targeted at my miscommunication, not the editors.
This archive has quite a few books which the current drive is missing (like Street Legends Supplemental).
Sebastian Roberts
> Furthermore, no matter how many Downgrades you make, you only receive a single extra Mod Point.
So at best you could mount an SMG or underbarrel grenade launcher.
And what's wrong with the weapons the Garuda already has? If you're at the point where you can't have a rotodrone and you need a supersonic strike force, it might as well use explosives. At least those are things that can be used by a jet as it flies by, and you don't have to argue with the GM about the level of cheese in a gun platform that is unable to be targeted by anyone (except I guess a decker going through your RCC to fuck with it in the Matrix).
Jaxson Walker
All I can imagine is a sidewinder missile being launched off a fighter looking like pic
Dylan Cox
I think that one of the main mistakes with editing is that it's like writers don't intend to have the books being read in a physical medium. Honestly, the next time you read an SR PDF for any reason, don't use links, search or bookmarks function. It's hell.
Grayson Baker
If the wires inside of me and my chrome are getting damaged I think I have other problems than being able to use my weapon slide as a free action
