Are they sparks where his sword is coming out of his scabbard? Why the fuck is he grinding his sword against his scabbard? His scabbard is going to be gone if he does that any more, and his sword is going to get all blunt and warped.
Looking some more, is his sword red fucking hot? HOW did his sword get red hot and why is he using it? If his sword gets heated to that point outside of a forge and is improperly cooled it's going to undo all the work of hardening and tempering, he might as well be hitting his opponents with a blunt cast iron bar.
And don't tell me he's planning on using it when it's still hot. Its cutting edge is going to be all gone and even if you do cut, it'll cauterize the wound and the enemy won't bleed, they might not even feel it if you burn the nerves.

I think it may be a Japanese rendition of Megaman, I remember seeing very similar art depicting a bunch of Mario characters, so it's probably by the same artist.

Not entirely sure if you'd call David Bull "Japanese"... he's certainly living in Japan and employs Japanese artisans, and very clearly studies seriously to reproduce the old Ukiyo-e style in the traditional manner, but he's a white dude and I think he does all the carving for the plates they use.
