Fitness models/bodybuilding competitors have to on/off starve themselves all the time, for shows/shoots in order to look the part. It's a pretty grueling regimen from what I've heard. It's not about pure mass, it's about the balance of muscle types against each other, the strength of joints, the strength of bones, the length or lack of length of limbs, how well trained those muscles are, and knowing how to use those muscles which is its own mess of complexities and physics.

A STR 18 character does not have to be literally so full of muscle that its ripping their own skin apart. A STR 12 character might have more actual muscle than a STR 18 character, but none of that matters if the rest of the physiological framework is shitty and they have no clue how to put their strength to best use.

I had a look at the paper cited there because I got really curious.
The paper itself seems a bit off, with them testing 1600 men and about 550 women, of those 60 being "Elite National Athletes".
The repeated claims of testing "Elite National Athletes" that perform in "Sports that train high grip strength" without actually backing it up seems weird. They also draw incredibly broad conclusions from that data.
Now, that data and conclusions can very will 100% represent the truth, but seeing as how the paper has next to no attention and there are no further studies trying to prove or refute the point, I'd not use it to make a strong point. A solitary study is practically worthless, after all.

Can't be arsed too look over the data more closely now, but it's a ten years old study conducted by mostly close-to-military guys with practically no notable credit (except for Ridder, that guy is pumping papers out like a motherfucking machine, it seems), I really can't be arsed at 2 in the morning.
I'd love to see more science done on this, though. Couldn't find any more studies on the fly, though.

I've brought this up in similar threads but basically if you have any character with 18 STR that is built like a stick it's just dumb as hell. If you're going to have a strong ass woman they better well be built like a truck. Really "bulk" is important here.
