Why the fuck are crypto currencies worth anything?

Why the fuck are crypto currencies worth anything?

Why the fuck is anything worth anything?

Because they have practical uses.

How do human beings assign meaning and significance? What is worth? What is value?

...

What practical use does green paper have?

Backed by a gov't that says it's worth something and can fuck you up if you say it isn't. Where's the crypto army?

heh, you're lookin at us kid...

Here. This guy will break your neck.

It's not worth anything. Let's see the gov't come fuck me up for saying so.

emperorz new clothes comes to mind

Would a dull grey otherwise uninteresting metal that could be teleported to anyone else in the universe if they were capable of solving a math problem be of no practical use?
If so, why does the dull grey metal part matter at all?
If not, why does any verifiable value transmission channel have any value whatsoever?

*when people that matter say it isn't worth anything

to go a bit further: powerful people have large stakes in the success of USD. mostly neckbeards have stakes in crypto. If crypto becomes powerful in any sense, particularly if it threatens more powerful currencies, then what's stopping the far more entrenched powers that be from crushing it?

The only practical use a dollar has is snorting cocaine and it does not even have a monopoly on that.

Read a book about the several theories of value and come back.

Yeah petrodollar dying there pal, mostly with the acceptance of "all the people that matter" from any reasonable definition thereof, so not really.
As for what's stopping them from crushing it, nothing more than anything which could only be stopped by the banning of performing mathematical operations, which is to say the fabric of reality itself.

who are the people that matter? the public. user is part of the public so he matters. why is crypto worth anything? the market decided at that price. who is the market? the public. people gave it worth, user. just like everything else in the world.

Almost all are useful for getting around laws. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to transfer significantly more than 10k internationally.

Some actually significantly improved on money transfers while being within the law, like Ripple.

Some are very private, like Monero, which make them viable for sustained criminal activity.

A lot of them actually have good platforms for making other businesses or apps, like Ethereum and all its altcoin competitors.

Some are literally backed by other things and are just a ledger.

Take your pick.

We're the crypto army and we'll unironically fuck up anyone who tries to stop us.

>4000$ fees

people pay for them

Shut up idiot

We're talking about cryptocurrencies though, not Bitcoin Core.
