>30k TACTICA & TIPS What to include in a HH list, how to format it, what makes each legion special (crunch), tactics, Tutorials for Heresy-era minis and more pastebin.com/Tm2P4QLp
I really like both, but I'm finding painting IFs too hard with all the potential yellow has to go wrong and it's currently not fun to have shit minis I'm not proud of.
I know the RoW and characters and rules, but I'm still not sure what an IW list looks like in practice as I'm still researching, but was hoping to get some advice anyway
I need convincing one way or the other
Xavier Wright
Just don't go midway like KA.
Robert Price
Regarding Dreadclaws deep striking in, can the squad inside hop out and shoot immediately or do they have to sit in the pod and wait another turn because it's a flyer?
Carter Flores
>I really like both, but I'm finding painting IFs too hard with all the potential yellow has to go wrong and it's currently not fun to have shit minis I'm not proud of. I keep hearing that yellow is hard but is it really that bad? It can't be that hard. What are you scared of bananas? Do you have a stroke everytime you see something yellow? I kid of course. >I know the RoW and characters and rules, but I'm still not sure what an IW list looks like in practice as I'm still researching, but was hoping to get some advice anyway Ironfire and all of those dank memes. >Convincing How many Fists do you have now? Consider your wallet, and ask yourself if we really need another IWfag. That last part was a halfway joke.
Eli Johnson
Doubt is a sign of weakness.
Joshua Ortiz
is KA.
Jordan Watson
KA bullying has gotten old.
Alexander Sanchez
It's not an attempt at that, the poster sounds like him. Well, that or CA(Canadian). I like how GW reused Dantioch's helmet in 40k.
Jackson Moore
It is pretty neat.
Robert Murphy
Did a Thousand Sons test model. Need to add some markings and symbols so it doesn't look too much like a Blood Angel. Although I will treat them as such until the TSons get their rules.
Mason Evans
I think they can disembark, what they cannot do is assault, and that's only the first turn. You cannot disembark at all if you do a flaming attack, however, of any kind. IWs with Golg can use termie troops without needing to use PotL (it's still a good RoW). But I'll tell you something about the usual Ironfire list: it's usually built around a single artillery unit, which is often left unprotected against deepstriking threats. And that's not a good thing, seeing how the entire strategy revolves around it.
Huh, nice find. So the horse caretakers are in 30k the Siege engines caretakers. The only other I found was the Dodekatheon.
Jason Carter
if I take both a sicarian and an infiltrating autocannon iron havoc squad am I a bad person
Jose Brown
Excuse me, in a 1000 point game
Kevin Diaz
He is KA tho
Noah Bennett
GW didn't do shit. The artist, ukitakumuki is always sneaking cool stuff like that into his covers.
Joshua Gonzalez
>An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded You're not falling to chaos are you KA
Anthony Jones
Alpha legion?
Easton Hernandez
Fucking adorable.
Nolan Cook
What are people's opinions on differing the red legions >metallic red TS >dried scab red WB >bright red BA death to anyway that says Bangles
Aiden Nguyen
Correct
Austin Scott
He's possible the best 40k artist of them all. I think he hasn't screwed up in his art? Kai Lim is good too
Nathaniel Clark
You're a dick, but you're roleplaying AL dicksihness so it's kosher
Juan Turner
that looks like shit though
Brody Russell
Is that Fist's armour yellow all the way through or did they just paint all the damaged area yellow rather than fill in the holes?
Aaron Thomas
Well that's a relief but we're starting up a 30k night at my store and I didn't want to put off any new guys by unintentionally stomping them, I just wanted to use my painted models to give a good impression
Grayson Morales
Yellow within, yellow without
Cameron Walker
Has anyone link to The Either audiodrama, or to Echoes of Imperium?
Christopher Brown
Well, the outer layer of power armour is ceramite, I see no reason why it couldn't be dyed any colour you want. Saves on repainting the armour every time it gets scratched.
Aaron Jenkins
With a Cortex controller one get the option to bring one of three alternatives. Thallax, Castellax and Vorax. I want to go for the sweet Thallax. However there are some questions first I need answered.
In their rulebook, Thallax doesn't have the rule regarding programmed behavior (stay within 12' etc etc), Would that mean that Thallax in a legion army can walk around without the usual limitation of the Castellax for example?
And two, the 40k rulebook states that jet pack infantry have the deep strike rule. So why would I buy the option for it in the Thallax option? I guess it is a mistake from Forgeworld's part.
Cameron Davis
I'm not fucking KA
Nicholas Turner
Haven't read the BL series, but I want to do a small Luna Wolves force. I was thinking about converting (possibly magnetizing) my horus without the Talon. I understand he got that much later in the crusade and HERESY TIME'd shortly afterward.
What weapon other than the big ass womping stick did he carry prior to the Talon, did he have a firearm or just the Giant Mace of Fuck You?
I figured I could play them as a shattered Legion or Black Shield bro hams for afterward.
Brody Diaz
No, I'm sorry. I remember some links were posted like 4 threads ago? But I don't remember what they were: I was phonpostinng He's a recast. He's yellow all the way to the core.
Leo Hall
I am KA
Chase Parker
>Thallax doesn't have the rule regarding programmed behavior Indeed. They aren't Battle-Automata, but cyberized shock troop humans. >Why buy the deepstrike upgrade for Thallax if they can deepstrike already? It's meant for ZM, where aerial deepstriking is forbidden, so the upgrade lets them teleport like termies, and also gives them Hardened Armour. Don't even bother, since a 4+ save means Heavy flamers don't give a fuck about their hardened armour anyway.
Kayden Diaz
No, I am KA
Justin Brown
OME she is!
Xavier Anderson
He doesn't take to the field in armour that often in the novels, but from what I recall he's armed with a storm bolter* and a golden sword up to Davin. After Davin he gets his shiny new suit from the mechanicum.
*Storm bolters in 30k are a bit of a contentious topic, but I figure he's a fucking primarch, he can get his hands on unique prototypes.
Brody Hill
18 legions diorama guy here.
After a very busy week, I managed a little time yesterday to do the Space Wolf sketch. Went for a more Viking inspired look, also changed the armour from the ugly baby blue to a more iron-like colour.
Brody Collins
>painting IFs too hard
Enjoy your hazard stripes brother. Iron within, iron without.
Ethan Gutierrez
Got nothing to say really except that you are better at drawing fingers than most and that's something.
David Bell
I like your medium. Watercolours?
Jeremiah Nguyen
His head is way too big
Good colors though, dark gray space wolves are perfectly acceptable in 30k
Sebastian James
the other ones you drew/painted looked pretty good, but this one looks like shyte.
Christian Thompson
Finally, the >spoopy 4ch layout's been fucked off with.
Where are the other drawings?
Justin Long
Watercolour, ink and gouaché.
Yeah, head is too big and in general it doesn't look good. Might re-do it later, but it's certainly not my best.
There's a BA and a DA. Pic related.
Julian Baker
Looks lovely, really well done.
Evan Johnson
>There's a BA and a DA. Pic related. I had hoped you did more of them since I saw the BA. Nonetheless I like your style, have you been drawing for some time now? I still have to do a MkII IW request for an user from about a month ago.
Samuel Smith
...
Xavier Martin
How fluffy would a praetorian Guard unit for the Ultramarines be? I kind of want my dudes to be Gulliman's personal get shit done force beyond the standard chain of command that answer to him directly and only.
Jason Baker
Oh, I don't recall HH5 good enough, but surely special times call for special measures? If Malcador got his enforcers together, why couldn't Guilli-Ihavemyownempiretoo-man do the same?
Ethan Hughes
Ok is it shoulder pad, shoulder plate ,or pauldron?
Caleb Hernandez
Plate or pauldron. Definitely not a pad
Robert Lewis
Pauldron.
Luke Carter
Yeah, I do art for a living, been doing these and painting miniatures in my free/drinking time.
Just started experimenting with watercolours, hadn't used them in years, I mostly do pure monochrome inks and sculpting.
Bentley Hall
Can I get a source on this I'm trying to convince a friend who think they're called pads because Gw and fw label all their webstore models with "shoulder pad"
Lucas King
We also call them miniatures, that doesn't mean they're actually called that in universe
Mason Mitchell
I think most Primarchs kept some form of elite specialist cadre for their own purposes, fucking do'er bud.
Colton Wright
>pad Anything stuffed and soft enough to protect from jarring, friction, etc.; cushion >pauldron Component of plate armor that protects the shoulder area Sauce, muh dictionary
Parker Perez
The need for sourcing everything ever reminds me of that dude who refused to have the UM and WS fight because "there is no novel about it".
Joseph Parker
I'm interested to hear more about this stupidity. Is there anything more to the story than that?
I think you guys should save up your autism for armour mark fights, of which MkIII is the best? Just saying
David Sanchez
You got it good then, if you can make a living out of it. Do you do sculpting as in real sculpting? Been thinking of picking up the same, just haven't got enough time/funds for everything and just the pencil is good enough of a medium for the time being.
Space Wolves band, maybe styled as Varangian guard? The watch packs were supposed to act in guard of the Imperium, or as guards to the loyal primarchs. Arm them with Legatine axes and shields, sculpt wolf pelts such as Roman Aquilifers wore, and there you go.
James Torres
>I think you guys should save up your autism for armour mark fights, of which MkIII is the best? Please don't.
Andrew Smith
Here's a (you)
Cameron James
I've enjoyed your stuff, dude. I can't criticize the proportions on your Space Wolf because I can't into visual art (I'm going to ruin my Alpha Legion and become the next KA-tier laughingstock of the thread when I post them, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, /HHG/!). Like I said, I like your medium. I like the watercolour-enhanced sketch look, it feels very Remembrancer-y, it looks a little like a Blanche piece. A little detail that I think adds a lot is the exhaust fumes. Creates a sort of gritty verisimilitude. I'll be eager to see the rest of the project.
If you're taking suggestions on the next Legion, I'd love to see White Scars, Raven Guard, Alpha Legion, Salamanders, or Emperor'S Children.
Jaxson Taylor
You and your wolf pelts, pleb taste bruh :^) Also, I don't understand this: >Unlike other standard bearers (such as signifers), the aquilifer probably did not wear an animal skin, instead going bareheaded (no contemporary depiction of an aquilifer shows him with a headdress or helmet) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquilifer I should have stated more clearly that it was a joke. As in, isn't it a bit dumb to disagree on what to call pauldrons?
William Reed
I'm the user you (You)'d. Just so I know - was I displaying the stupid, unreasonable need for sourcing? I hope not. I'm a huge fan of the concept of YOUR D00DS (within reason), to the point of investing a decent amount of time in fluffing out one of the Lost Legions. I want UltrAnon to have his badass XIIIth Legion Praetorians.
Julian Lopez
Oh nah, I didn't get that impression of you, man. I was merely reminded of that guy. Sort of, because I barely remind HHG telling the story. Everything goes, really. I bet UMs could even be fluffed as massacring civilians if the situation called for it. Just saying UM Praetorian guards are quite easy to justify from the legion that has Invictarii Suzerains.
Anthony Gonzalez
How is Mechanicum meant to kill Mortarion? I know his thing is durability, but everything I use to kill tough things and other Primarchs (Scoria, Grav Destructors , poison volleys to try to shave off a wound or two) only work on 6s and he is so damn fast I can't catch the guy. So far my best idea was to get 40 or 60 Adsecularis and smear them across the table as tarpit units, but I'm not hopeful.
William Smith
I'm using pic related as a base for sergeants and apothecaries for my MkIV squads.
Now that BoP is out I'm gonna build a unit of MkIII breachers and a heavy support squad with hardened armour. Should I keep using palatine blades or is there any way to make similarly fancy MkIII for the sergeants?
Christopher Foster
I don't see anything wrong with mixing armor marks in the same squad, especially if It's just on the sergeants who probably have artificer armor anyway
Yeah, I do all sorts of clay and metal sculpting, currently I'm mostly doing masks and props for theater as well as experimenting with mixing metal, Clay and paints in a single piece.
I really appreciate the critique, the best way to get there is taking it and working on it, same goes for painting minis or anything, really.
Might do EC or WS next.
Christian Collins
>show Dang it. I don't even.
Jayden Adams
I faced him once and got raped pretty hard.
Scoria still works on him, but if the DG player has a double digit IQ he's never going to be in combat with him.
Benjamin Barnes
Ahaha fuck that was me, I didn't think anyone would remember that
Basically the dude didn't want to play me because there hadn't been a BL novel of WS vs UM yet, despite me pointing out that Retribution was all about undocumented secret wars that took place during the heresy.
He also didn't like that my bikers we're GW ones converted to have MkV bikers, and tried getting the manager to make me leave claiming I had "third party models" despite the fact I bought the models from that store a week earlier and converted them in the shop.
I wasn't too bothered though, I pretty sure he was somewhere on the autistic spectrum and my bikers are fucking sexy so whatever.
Jonathan Murphy
I think I remember you asking about those conversions. You should post pics.
Henry Watson
Time to deploy the Dreadwing.
Pretty cool, I have to admit I envy you a little. If we can vote, I'd like you to do a White Scar next, would be interesting to see your take on them.
Seconding.
Jackson Peterson
Ded lucky.
There's a point where you gotta admit that no matter what you do, it's gonna look like shit. Might as well stand proud in your mediocrity.
As yellow as the Chinaman that made him.
Pauldron or epaulette.
>Armour Autism™ 'Ere we go again, boyz!
Thank the gods there's no sperglords in the store I play. The one I used to play in had this dude that had to make a rape or sodomy comment with a shit eating grin every time anything Slaanesh was mentioned, another dude that was attracted to infinity minis and a third one with a mlp themed SM army.
Joshua Nelson
Fearless thralls will be one of the best things to hold him up. Otherwise AT guns with high strength in one of the only ways to maybe shoot him of the board
Christian Lopez
I will when I get back from uni at christmas, the conversions themselves aren't that hard to do.
I just added studs and cabling to the legs, and then used the MkV Torso, head, backpack and shoulder pads that I had left over from my veterans to make the upper part of the body, and just used the regular arms that come with the biker for the arms as MkVII and MkV arms are very similar so it's not noticeable.
If you didn't have the MkV parts though, it's not even that hard to convert MkVII to MkV, all that needs doing is studs on the helmets and a little bit of greenstuff around the grille to make it larger (not even that if you wanted to claim it was a mantilla pattern helmet). Shave the trim off of the shoulderpads and add studs to one of them, and use an assault marine chest or the chests that come with the CSM bikers. For a backpack you could use an anvillus or alternatively a regular MkVII backpack, as again it's very similar to MkV.
Jonathan Kelly
>epaulette
We Mordian now.
Levi Price
Speaking of cool conversions, does anyone have a good way to make Adsecularis for less than the Forge World prices? I like the models, but paying £1 per point is a bit much. I was considering Chaos cultists with Ranger or Vanguard heads from 40k, go represent the "pressganged militia" mentioned in the Skitarii dex. They are literally controlled by their implants, given the bare minimum of equipment and sent into the meat grinder, which is both cheap and really fits the "expendable infantry, Servitors and Artillery" I was going for with my DarkMech army.
Alexander Collins
Yeah, plan was to make a bunch of them for general tarpitting purposes, since he can't take a unit if he wants to move quickly and so will get essentially neutered by 20 bodies for a turn or two. Thing is, . Any other Primarch and I grav them to death handily.
Eli Williams
Adescularis are like cults and militias, pretty much anything goes.
You could use IG models with some technological shit attached to them, and convert the lasguns into what you want.
I wouldn't go with cultists, they're quite hard to convert I've found due to being snap-fit, and Using IG (or maybe even tempestus?) with ranger or vanguard heads would probably give them quite a uniform look.
Matthew Adams
>>Armour Autism™ Your #1 provider of concentrated autism ;^) >mlp themed SM army I think I remember some colorful Rhinos?
Colton Edwards
The DG has a lot of templates, but I guess for the cost you could bring enough Adsecularii that it would still be enough of a tarpit, right? And then you add a Lachrimallus for 1/3 chance of resurrecting Thralls.
Henry Kelly
Fav Contemptor loadout
>inb4 BA double double
Ryder Rogers
FG could end up with shred, but carapace armor, fearless and fnp can mitigate that effectiveness pretty well I'd imagine
Nicholas Jones
I vote Scions with Vanguard heads, it's a good look. You can even use a Vanguard/Ranger torso with the long duster/greatcoat for a cool squad leader (though I forget fluff for Adsecularis and if they're basically mindwiped thralls or not)
Carter Garcia
Dual assault cannons, or fist w/multimelta, usually both in tandem
Justin Phillips
Scions will end up being more costly than the FW Thralls. They're 35 pounds for ten. Scions are 42 pounds for ten. I get wanting to do conversions, but it's not always a saver
