Critical Role Keyleth

I've been watching critical role again, because I enjoy watching them interact and have fun. Sure, there are long periods of nothing, but then we get Scanlan 'the Meatman' Shorthault buying 'spice', which makes up for the boring periods.

However, as I watch it, one thing that drives me crazy is Keyleth/Marisha. I've been told that Marisha plays up the cringey portions of Keyleth, but I have a hard time believeing that. Marisha, to me, seems to be the weakest player at the table, unable to roleplay, but putting herself in the game rather then the character. She (the player) seems to try and force moments of awesome, metagames to get her way, and acts like a spoiled child when things don't go her way.

Now the other characters in the game stay in character, referring to her as a 'leader' and such, but really she shouldn't be based on her actions. Scanlan is the face, Vax is the leader. Keyleth's story of the last airbender also is annoying to me, but it could be played better to make it less cringey, but Marisha can't seem to manage that. Taliesin plays Percy like nobility, Marisha plays Keyleth like a mary sue.

Anyway, just wondering what Veeky Forums thinks of all this. Sure not every player around a table is going to be amazing, but Marisha seems to just be there as the DMs girl, and is tolerated as such.

I stopped watching critical role because of those faults you mentioned. Check out Thrilling Intent. It's 4 close friends having fun telling a story. They have good chemistry, never break character, and can be genuinely funny.
The cast is a bit younger than Critical Role and the opening adventure is worth slogging through the first few episodes for. But there are not Critical Roles long periods of blasé.

It sounds like you don't like the lack of chemistry the players you are currently watching have. It's okay to branch out and find something you might enjoy more.

I noticed what you mentioned too. It bothers me.

I like the chemistry of Critical role, to an extent. It's just that Keyleth's character doesn't fit. I think she has a charisma of 10 in the game, but Marisha tries to act like its 18 (comes off as 4). People call her beautiful in game, which, knowing that Charisma plays into pretty, makes me go, 'eh, shed be more like average'.

She also is supposed to be the moral compass, yet she is the one who cheats at casino games, and breaks rules using magic the most. So hypocritical.

I'll try thrilling intent, but Ill still watch critrole too. I just end up yelling at the tv whenever Marisha speaks as Keyleth.

I'd pay to watch the adventures of Scanlan and Grog.

Alright, for those keeping score, Veeky Forums in general doesn't mind Critical Role itself, just as long as we don't take it as an actual D&D game. It's more a bunch of actors chatting it up, so if you're into that it's good. It's also useful to watch for some decent observation of DM styles.

Arguments that it brings normies into the hobby and that's a bad thing are, by definition, retarded.

I never said that Normies in an RPG is a bad thing...

I want the game to be more mainstream.

I know, I'm just trying to pre-empt the inevitable shitshow that occurs every time we bring Critical Role up.

>People call her beautiful in game, which, knowing that Charisma plays into pretty, makes me go, 'eh, shed be more like average'.

This is wrong, Charisma in d&d has nothing to do with appearance.

Since when?

Yes it is a blend of things to make people appealing and charismatic, but beauty has always been a part of it.

>Veeky Forums in general doesn't mind Critical Role itself
I see you are from reddit.

Critical Role is SJW trash.

This. It's more along the lines of how likable or how confident an influential you appear. Believe it or not the best explanation of this was from some guy on reddit using Fullmetal Alchemist as an example.

It... never has.. It's always been about your ability to lead, confidence, and your force of personality. If it had to do with appearance then why would Beholders, Death Knights, etc have good/great charisma?

charisma is a measure of how appealing you are, not necessarily physically

look at christopher walken

he's not attractive, but he's got a hell of a CHA score

She's probably the weakest player out of everyone at the table since they gave Orion the boot. I don't hate her, but I do tend to get annoyed when she tries to force a moment or otherwise holds things up. When they're planning she'll normally object with something about why their plan is flawed, but then not offer an alternative. So when they start getting ready to head out, she'll say it's flawed once again and before you know it a whole hour is killed talking in a circle. Her exchange with the green dragon (and really any enemy she has ever confronted) was extremely awkward as well and not in the good way. "Gr... I'm gonna kill you!" "Ok. Well, until then we must-" "Gr. I'm gonna kill you." Like, we get it. You don't like her. Everything doesn't need to be repeated a hundred times over.

That said, she will never be as bad as Orion was.

Aaaand here we go. Everything is SJW trash nowadays. MTG Interracial Gay Commanders, Children's shows, the single, short paragraph in 5e that says you can defy gender stereotypes BECAUSE IT'S A FUCKING RPG.

>SJWs get their hammy hands on every hobby
>Wow shut up and just support it!

>short paragraph in 5e that says you can defy gender stereotypes
Which also shows how everyone is bowing down to marxism. As someone who grew up in a communist country its disgusting to watch, really.

>inclusiveness is bad! stop letting people do things i don't like!

you funny guy

lol speaking for all of Veeky Forums.

Also, it is by very definition, a D&D game.

The only reason to watch this show is to lose your last miniscule speck of faith in humanity before killing yourself. It is a gathering of hipster nu-males and screeching whores they plop at a table, add a ton of boring shit on the screen, and then proceed to laugh autistically over inane shit for 2.5 hours. It is basically a RoosterTeeth video, except with a D&D session attached. These people are the biggest faggots on the planet. Matt Mercer's homebrew is shit, he's passable at best as a DM, and the women can't do anything except make fart / period jokes because they are disgusting whores. The other fat-asses aren't much better and are likely just there for the free attention and a chance at scoring with used up voice actress cunts.

If you spend your free time watching D&D, it is because you are a fucking social reject. Because you clearly cannot find a game. Because if you could find a game you would not be watching 2 to 3 hour episodes of these fags' "banter". I cannot think of anything more boring than watching some other people I don't give a fuck about, playing D&D. I'd rather paint my toenails with my dick cheese. What a fucking waste of time. I seriously hope Critical Role charters a bus and the bus crashes and they all fucking die. I am not even memeing, I fucking hate these cocksuckers, they are more obxnoious than the Yogscast/Roosterteeth, and they are flooding our hobby with these autistic youtube gaming addicts who will fuck up your D&D campaign and whine that it should be more like Skyrim.

What'd I say? Shitshow.

Goos fraba or oosa or calm the fuck down dude. Why are you so mad? Not even about Critical Role, but at life in general? When you leave your 20's behind, I hope you'll realize how much of it you wasted on unwarranted vitriol.

i've never seen anyone so dedicated to being mad about something so irrelevant and unimportant before

...

You must be new to Veeky Forums then. Just wait until we bring up Steven Universe, that's even worse

>Marxism
(You)

Sorry, but your position is stupid. I have been literally unable to get video games due to their influence, and the only thing they are good at is infiltartion/networking.
Just look at the debacles in the open source communities.

The problem is real and while some people might be overly paranoid it is better than letting them ruin things freely.

Because these people are destroying our hobby. People are holding up D&D campaigns to the standard of critical role, which is fucking retarded because (1) not everyone is a professional voice actor and (2) the critical role cocksuckers aren't even playing D&D. They are just hijacking it for cheap unfunny jokes so they can get as many shekels as possible.

Inclusiveness usually ends up excluding people though, funnily enough.

>I haven't been able to play video games because there's Gay people in them.
Sure buddy, whatever you say.

Hey there roosterteeth guy, still not moved out of your grans basement i see.

No, because they were not for sale in my country.
But thanks for putting words in my mouth, this shows that you are just farming for

Except no one gives a fuck about Stephen Universe because it is wholly irrelevant to Veeky Forums. What we are experiencing here is a culture war. Wheston and Mercer are flooding the hobby with chucklefucks who have no passion or care for RPGs and what they offer. They only want to recreate the Critical Role experience in the most selfish way possible. They want every game to be a fucking comedy, while deriding anyone who takes the game seriously as a loser with no sense of humor. They whine if the game isn't fast-paced enough for their skyrim-ADD addled brains. And complain if it's not laugh-a-minute pewdiepie horseshit like Critical Role. These people need to be removed from role-playing games, by any means necessary.

>our hobby
i didn't know playing D&D was exclusive to a select few

I've heard this complaint a lot but it but personally never bothered me. I can see how some might find her character annoying and I don't know her as a person so idk how reflective her character is of herself, but for me she doesn't disrupt the group flow while still being a noteworthy character that adds to the party dynamic.

Why not just play games with other people that share your mindset? It sounds like your anger is directed at playing with people who don't want to play the same way you do. So play with people who DO want to play the way you do. Ya dig?

Oh you mean the paragraph that gave traps and fags free license to take over the game with their nonsense?

Why do gender politics have to be part of D&D? What does it add to the story? Because if it doesn't, I am vetoing your character and you are getting straight out of my house. That applies to ANY of this type of bullshit by the way, not just LGBt shit. I had a player who tried to play an Orc Lives Matter activist and it was so noteworthy I had to send him an email saying he was no longer welcome in my home and I would be calling the police if he returned. He was blsck, too. Not that that has anything to do with it.

It's ubiquitous. The leader of the party in-game is hardly ever the most confident or outspoken person out-of-game. It's one of the few things on the show that matches what a real gaming group is like.

/pol/ pls, Veeky Forums has always been pretty centrist and home to a variety of views

if you want an echochamber stick to your containment board

Yeah and those child beauty pageants are technically fashion shows but we all know they are just striptease porn for pedophiles like you.

Waaah, i can't find anyone who wants to play in my sooper serial homebrew rapefighting rpg that i plan on dming as soon as my nan allows me to bring friends into the basement

>Removing people from Roleplaying for not being serious about playing pretend.
I have a new theory. The angrier about something inconsequential someone on Veeky Forums acts, the more they sound like Virt.

>STOP HAVING FUN THE WRONG WAY

Sigh. Sperglords everywhere.

Dude. That is some fucked up anatomy

It's fanart from a GIS. I couldn't do better myself, but I get what you mean about the anatomy being off a bit. Creative license.

You are unwanted here

>Roosterteeth guy is virt

Checks out, who else would have the time to hang on Veeky Forums all day waiting for someone to post about a wooden nickel rpg show

nice mental illness post

It's not, stop using that argument. Anyone can play D&D, but that doesn't mean we have to let them in our groups. We are well within our rights to discourage and exclude these wastes of space from our games. I've already turned down a couple who had never played D&D before after they mentioned seeing parts of Critical Role. The infection of unwanted, murderhoboing, tranny- playing, not-bothering-to-learn-the-fucking-rules, skyrim-obsessed ADD cunts is spreading, and if you are unwilling to stop it, We are happy to let you join them. Then after you play a few sessions with these fuckers who hijack the entire game for laughs, make meme characters, and constantly bring up WoW and Dark Souls, you might have an inkling of doubt as to your decision.

Nice lack of argument.

>inclusiveness
Explain to me how moving in on a hobby and kicking the initial people who welcomed you out is inclusive?
Why are all SJWs such hypocrites?

Nice ad hominem straw man. Also: not an argument.

guess what, autismo, its not an "argument"

>Everyone I dont like is /pol/

>if you want an echochamber stick to your containment board
Its strange how you are a-okay with it slowly becoming an echochamber for SJWs tho.

Come on rooster teeth isn't half bad as long as you don't pay attention to their horrible opinions.

Its the other way around, Nu-Male.

If you go to someone's party and start shitting on the floor, you might be having fun, but you are fucking up someone's party.

The group as a whole has a right to fun as well. Your selfish attitude is why you deserve to die of cancer.

Hahaha, this thread fucking sucks!

Then your assertions are all wrong. Nothing you said has any merit. Simple as that. This isn't your college hugbox rhetoric class anymore, faggot. You aren't right just because you want to be. We don't have to include you just because you want us to. Have fun trolling roll20 threads for a decent group. I'm sure one day you'll find one that doesn't flake out with I,he first five sessions.

There is so much wrong with this picture. I have pointed it out before.

If everyone is happy at step 1, why go to step 2? If everyone is happy at step 2, why go to step 3? If you are not satisfied with step 3, why not tell them to fuck off? If you are not happy with step 4 and onwards why are you still there? And this shit happens to what, 0.5% of groups? It is more common for the core group to lose interest in the game / decide to do something else than for this stuff to happen.

>We

Do you have legit autism? How is that you complain about a lack of arguments on his part when all you did is call him a paedophile?

no YOU

The problem is that most groups ate far too inclusive. Also that picture applies to hobby communities as a whole, you dolt. Entiely different dynamic there.

funniest thread on tg right now

white genocide now

Shoo shoo.

Because this was hand-drawn by Virt, and used exclusively by him. Of course there's everything wrong with it. Abandon thread. It's definitely him.

so basically you're bitching about people playing the game how they want to, not how you want to?

again, i ask: why not play with people who have the same mindset as you instead of bitching about people who want to play a different way?

I was making an analogy to show why Critical Role may technically be playing D&D, but aren't really, because they are doing it in bad faith.

You idiot. That picture existed long before he did. I am laughing my ass off so hard right now at your paranoia.

>Everyone I dont like is NAMEFAG

Oh fuck off back to /v/ already.

I do. But these people are flooding the hobby with new players and affecting what content is produced.

Oh but we all can just sit and play 3.5 with the same six people for the rest of our lives. That'll be fun!

"they are, but not really, because they are..."

Nah.

If you don't like new players, isn't that what you wanted to do in the first place? Do you want to bring people in or scare them away, because you can't have it both ways.

How about bringing them in without them wanting to change the hobby so it caters to them?

Sorry my games dont accommodate your feelings and micro-aggressions, you unique and special individual.

They are washed out actors who couldn't make it in Hollywood so they decided to make a terrible web show instead. They are in it for the shekels, and they are creating a tide of corrupted, entitled players who refuse to integrate into the community. Look how well that worked out in France. 80 people got run over by a truck.

This thread is fucking hilarious

I want to bring the right people in.
I want to scare the wrong people away.

>bitches about people wanting to play the game a different way
>literally wants people TO CHANGE THEMSELVES to play a game with him

Man, you must be fun to play with. Can I join your group?

>bad faith
What the fuck are you trying to say there? Like, bad faith in the legal sense? There's nothing deceptive about what they're doing; they really are playing D&D for money and to endorse their respective careers, and they don't hide that, nor do they need to. Or do you mean bad faith in the existentialist sense, where someone acts in a predictable way even though they are theoretically free to do otherwise? Because you're going to find that kind of bad faith in any kind of work.

literal scum, I can't wait until we start rounding your king up into work camps

Fuck off faggot. We aren't asking for much. We're just asking for the normal niceties of social interaction. Such as, observing the group and it's conventions so you know what appropriate behavior to adopt. EVERYONE does this in social situations. You don't swear and make shit jokes around your grandma. We are just asking you don't hijack the gsme with autistic jokes and make skyrim references fucking constantly.

Is that too much? Then get the fuck out.

I'm actually glad you refuse to play with people that like having fun. Keeps the sperglords in one quarantined group.

I'm genuinely curious what your real lives are like that this is affecting your hobby so much.

> Played D&D with my family as a kid
> During holidays and such still play with them now.
> Run my own ongoing that's 2 years strong and is now in podcast form.
> Introduced dozens of people to the hobby over the course of the past 3 years, and still getting new people hooked and going and starting their own games
> Still playing exactly how I want to, with a group that has good chemistry and has fun.

Like, how hard is it for you people to have fun and enjoy life?

People who think that tabletop gamers are wonderful the way they are have never seen the bathroom of a game store.

These kinds of hobbies attract a lot of social retards, people who can't get what they want out of life because they are deeply unpleasant people that nobody wants to be around. These people are naturally resentful of those who aren't social retards, because it's easier to blame others than to examine yourself.

Fuck you, if that is how you play than fucking kys you fucking numale roosterteeth cocksucker. I had a friend who forced me to watch roosterteeth even though it is literal horseshit that nobody likes but pretend to so that they can bring betas, women and the jews into our games.

First they came for videogames, then they came for my tv series and now they are comming for my pathfinder games and i will not lose them too

Except we do have fun. We laugh a lot during our sessions. We have great intricate campaigns and we invite new players to our games all the time. We ended up having to split our group into smaller parts for different campaigns.

But we don't just let in anyone. And nor should you. The more you tolerate unacceptable behavior, the more you encourage it, and those fuckers think that that gives them a right to start this shit in other groups.

Its an RPG first, entertainment second. If you can't handle that, go get drunk ata club or play cards against humanity with your nasty fat girlfriend. We don't need your kind.

It started off fairly balanced and polite too, which just makes it funnier.

/thread

Isn't this the one with Travis Willingham in?

I like him. His Barbarian is fun.

>RPG first, entertainment second
>RPG
>Role Playing Game
>Game
>Game, Noun, An amusement, or entertainin pastime.

Lols user, good argument.

every single thread you wont just up about a friend making you watch youtube videos

Sort of off topic, but are there any shows/streams/whatever like this where the focus is more mechanical and less... Like a bunch of actors talking? Like a group of people that all know the rules front to back and play a little crunchier. I like roleplay and all, but my favorite part of these games is the mechanics. I'd just play WoD if all I wanted was the acting half.

My complaint about rules gaming is that you end up playing a tabletop wargame more then a role playing experience. And people hated 4e.

I like Roll to Hit, which is a podcast, but has a youtube offshoot. Basically feels like a bunch of guys playing D&D, rules and all. Also one of their characters is named Sherlock Gnomes, so take that as you will.

I though that Penny Arcade had a pretty good run of it. Almost made listening to a 4e podcast worth it.

"so they can bring women, betas and jews into our games"

'its my game. mine mine mine. go away"

found the nazi scum

Fair enough, I just find that if you rely completely on stats, like "I give an inspiring speech" and roll charisma check, you lose something of what makes the game special. 4e was a fine tactical combat simulator, but in being WoW on paper, it lost what made the previous editions of DnD enjoyable. I think for the most part 5e is a good blend of things, and the players around my table prefer it to pathfinder. It seems less restrictive, bad builds are less common and still fun to play, and overall everyone has a fun time.

To each their own I suppose.

You see that kids, Sometimes Moderation on Veeky Forums does work.

Get the fuck out of here, shill.

Nobody is going to watch your stupid show. They are not real nerds. They are paid actors who are doing it by whoring themselves out.

Fuck off and don't come back you bag of rotten dicks.
