Alright, Urza wasn't actually sparked, he got by via accidentally shoving two shards of a power-stone that contained the soul of someone else who had the spark into each of his eye sockets. That's your starting point. Then he had a pretty fucked up mortal life up until that point, then spent 4000 years in a secret war with Phyrexia trying to get his home plane ready for an all out brawl with them, including preparing for people to commit atrocities so that he could justify other atrocities in the process of making weapons to basically just nuke phyrexia into the stone age.
Then toward the end of that plan Yawgmoth got inside his head in a psychological sense, then invited him into the core of phyrexia where he got inside him in a spiritual sense. One of Urza's failsafe plans came through a portal by chance, chopped urza's head off and dragged it back out after stabbing a facscimile of his dead girlfriend for good measure.

The decapitation seemed to be just what Urza needed to get his head right, 'cause after that with everything falling apart about everyone's ears and the moon crashing into the planet Urza said fuckit just shove everything I've worked on that isn't fucked into one thing and the effect should pretty much fuckup Yawgmoth's shit here. And he was right.

So then we got Karn as a planeswalker, presumably with Urza's soul and mind floating around in there somewhere. Last I heard Karn got tossed into the blind eternities during the story that shifted old-walkers into new ones. Someone else can pick it up from there.

I think I'd run with strategic puzzles, but crosswords would be a close second

Try using a pair of independent sliding scales for Luminosity and Mass. Give reasons to want a less/more Massive star, ect. If I don't see a reason to NOT have the biggest and shiniest star around, then I'll definitely do that.

For Atmosphere, I'd investigate our own solar system's atmospheres, and how they work. We have a decent enough understanding of most of the planets' atmospheric conditions to give you a bit of an idea there.

Also, for planets, consider "oddities" and how they would influence biology. For instance, a denser planet will have a higher force of gravity, which has been theorized to impact the lifespan of creatures living there. Give potential Physiological benefits/drawbacks for certain planetary traits.

I haven't really figured out the "why" yet but that's because I don't think it's so important.

However, I think I'm going to go with the player being more of an observer than an actual creator. To elaborate, the player will be an explorer/scientist who is describing a particular species instead of creating it; I think it would give the player more options for interacting with their creation afterwards.

I like them too but I just don't understand them well enough to implement them properly. That's the problem with alternate biochemistries: They are completely alien.

It's important enough that it needs to be there, as far as I'm concerned. The only kind of CYOAs I can think of that neither have nor need one are the old "here's a bunch of options, choose one" types, like .

I'm going to be honest, i may have bitten of more than I can chew here. It's a very ambitious project for my first cyoa. It's going to be done, but it won't be easy.
