If your secret santa arrives please remember to take a picture and post to the thread.
Charles Hughes
From last thread, Parcels2Go will not work, i am in US and it has no options for that. I will check the USPS and get it done there. I just hope our shitty mail system gets user's gift there
Robert Thompson
"Finished" pic related last night. It was a mini in a box with 2 others on clearance at MM. Figured it would make a good RPG guard/frostgrave man at arms.
Material was that shit rubbery PVC or whatever, so I purposely skipped a lot of the mold line cleaning. I just wanted to knock out the trio quickly. On top of all that, all my brushes are shit (been awhile since I even picked one up), so besides a few color bleed overs, I utterly botched his left eye. Oh well.
Oliver Rogers
It's not half bad. A bit of wash and a some slight layering after that would make it look really good.

Post your first ever painted model if you still have it.
For bonus points (in the same image) add your most recently painted model.
pic related, it's our very own Duncan Rhodes first attempt (from 1997)

>I will check the USPS and get it done there. I just hope our shitty mail system gets user's gift there
The weight limit for a First Class International Parcel from the US to other countries is four pounds. You said you estimated with five? Any chance you could make it less heavy (smaller box, split into two shipments, etc.)?
Also, there's a size limit to be mindful of, but the exact math escapes me at the moment.
Mason Nelson
Well my secret santa was bound to arrive in Sweden on the 8th, but I didn't see nothing so I don't know. As for myself, I just hope it arrives before I leave next week. I'd feel terrible to not be there, miss it, and because of my absence, having the gift sent back to user
Zachary Sanchez
You think a little something on the gambeson would make it pop more to be worth it?
I'm happy with how the face turned out, it's certainly progress in my skin painting department. I need to get my colors right though. Need to start with a much deeper color instead of something so light.
I did some light washing here and there. Brown on the cloth and skin, black on the metal. Think I should hit it again with a thicker batch?
You can just sort of see the highlighting. Brushes are all frayed, so it was an uphill battle for the most part
Isaiah Perez
Can't you ask a neighbor to accept any incoming parcels for you?
James Barnes
Fair enough mate, I only said this as I think we've had one or two people just say
>My gift arrived, thanks
It'd be really nice to see the pictures is all.
Hope your stuff turns up soon, and can't you just ask a neighbour to sign for it?
Samuel Jackson
I just estimated with the 5. It likely wont be that heavy.
Im the user that had the jobless issue, and his model $ stolen, so i dont thibk id be able to send 2 packages. It shouldnt be that heavy
Asher Lewis
Ooh, I'll see if I can get my neighbour to get it indeed! Good idea!
And yeah, apparently there's like more than 50 people than applied for SS but we sure as hell haven't seen that many parcels.
Matthew Davis
You surely have a kitchen scale right? Just put it on and you get a real weight. My box was 0,7kg and thats quite some sprues.
Mason Bell
sloooowly getting there. only 20 more marines to go + shoulderpads
kill me
Gabriel Hill
I have a pair of eyes, yeah. I wanted to be sure to include goodies, so that was the weight variable
Jacob Thompson
We've seen 6 so far with pictures
With, I think, 2 more with posts ( no pictures) saying "My shit came, thanks"
Eli Harris
really glad you liked it! hope it comes to better use there - tried to get my friends into it but they didn't mesh with the aesthetic, they'd rather play warhams. don't forget to post picks of the finished models!
Sebastian Scott
S-shit, sweden user here (unless there's more then one) and I can confirm, no SS for me today
Jacob Murphy
>a little something on the gambeson Yeah totally, apply a dark wash (a good ol' nuln oil or agrax hearthshade) on everything that isn't the face before re-layering with the same color and you'll be good. You'll need fine tips on your brushes tho! You'l
Asher Hill
Will do. I actually had it in my basket in an online shop a while ago when it was released but ended up buying something else.
Christopher Murphy
finished my warboss, excuse the lighting it's been super grey all week.
Justin Carter
Getting ready to send out a package to Ontario. Hope you enjoy user!
William Williams
dat is one nice git user
Hunter Bennett
The guy on the right was either my first or second one ever. The center was my third.
Colton Miller
Are you from Huddinge? I think there are several anons from Sweden? It'll probably arrive in monday then.
Grayson Gonzalez
yea im the dude from huddinge
Connor Morgan
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Jeremiah Powell
Totally new to miniatures. I'm getting the Dark Souls board game and it comes with some unpainted plastic minis that I'd like to spruce up. Is there a painting guide for an absolute amateur?
Angel Gutierrez
There are many painting guides for amateurs, they're in the OP.
Henry Mitchell
I would love to know how you paint ork skin, fellow user. I think that looks great.
Gabriel Rodriguez
Buy some bones minis from reaper to expirement on. You've got plenty of time before DS arrives
Jordan White
You can find lots of basics and stuff out there. You most basic approach is going to probably be prime them -> basecoat (the shadow or mid tone color you intend to use) -> ink wash (very thinned down paints, seep into cracks) -> highlight.
Ryan Gray
I was making a Tau Pathfinder into a Culexus, but I decided I'd rather use a Kroot for that.
Now I have a Pathfinder with a Crisis Suit head embedded into his helmet, a grenade in one hand, and a big plasma gun with a dish on the front in his other. What other fun thing can I make him count-as?
Excuse the MS Pain skills
Justin Cooper
Reposting from last thread.
A while ago I an user posted his Imperial Fists and when I asked about his weathering he pointed me to Tamiya weathering kits.
If your still around user, could I get your method for how you painted the other parts of your dudes? I got Burning of Prospero as an early christmas gift and want to make some roughed up fists but yellow is such a finicky color.
Pic related is the marines in question.
Adrian Campbell
Good gods, idk. Put him on the back door of a Devilfish? There really isnt much else you could do. Hes too small for Crisis, Pathfinders use Ion and Rail, its too small to use as a Hammerhead gunner for plasma cannon.
Eli Reyes
Illinoisanon doing the beastclaw stuff. Still haven't re-sized my images but just want to say this community and these threads are pretty awesome
Jason Ortiz
Just wondering, has anyone in here ever succeeded in assembling the Rhino chassis to all the plates are perfectly flush?
Evan Jenkins
I got a resizing app, what is a good size range to post at?
Ian Gutierrez
1.5 MB is about the maximum size that doesn't annoy me, but as a rule of tumb, aim for under 1MB. Dimensions will almost always be reduced drastically if you crop around your model close enough.
Kayden Howard
Not your guy, but that looks like an zenithal airbrush job. Here's how I'd emulate it: - orangeish base - orange/yellow from 75 deg above mini - yellow from straight above - pale yellow highlights at the plate edges - Gloss clear coat (prep for next steps) - decals - brown/black oil pin wash, cotton bud up excess - chipping - matte coat - weathering powders - base - final matte coat
Samuel Kelly
Testing here, I sized it down a bit. One of my faces WIP I don't think is half bad
Lincoln Jones
Ok that's not bad, here's another. I'm beating myself up about this mouldline I missed
Alexander Phillips
Looks to me like I've been loading too much paint on the brush. One on the right was more like a dry brush but it seems to be taking to the model better. Got plenty of dettol to correct fuckups.
I'm gonna get there eventually lads.
Nathan Peterson
Oops bear with new fa/tg/uy
Ian Torres
>You vs the guy she tells you not to worry about
Ethan Hall
I'm pretty amateur myself but if I might say I think you are thinking in the right direction, your paint on the right seems like it is a bit thick, the left looks like the better consistency but with such a light color you are usually layering on top of others, highlighting the darker colors you have running into those crevices like you have here. Basically left is good application done at the wrong stage
Jose Clark
Just to be a nicpicky ass, that painting style does NOT show well up close.
Carson Miller
LOL Jesus is that a playable assembly or just messing around?
Nolan Barnes
Yea, I know. It helps me see things I've missed and all imperfections a bit better
Alexander Young
Now to be fair to user, pretty much every paintstyle, short of Eavy Metal quality, doesn't benefit from close ups.
Ian Gomez
...
Jackson Reed
I know but that there's like one of those wall murals, one where up close it just splotches of point but four feet away it's a forest with more depth than neat line on canvas can convey.
Ian Ramirez
What'ya think about my WIP Helldrake conversion.
My iPhone camera sucks and I'm to lazy to use my DSLR with my 50mm lens to get a good shot. None of rhe angles look as majestic as it does IRL.
Jack Perez
That's looking cool. What are you converting? I've only seen a few pictures of these. Does look pretty majestic
Liam Walker
What is the conversion?
Also a darker background might help, the brightness makes the camera unable to "see" details.
John Wilson
I'm not bery familiar with the kit, so what did you change? More dynamic posing right? I like it.
Austin Baker
It's a long and overly complex method but i'm stuck with it now so i suppose i'll share...
Base: Caliban Green Layer: Castalan Green Highlight: Castalan Green/ Warboss Green (50/50) Highlight2: Warboss Green Highlight3: Warboss Green/ Ushabti Bone (50/50) Wash: Athonian Cammo Shade Highlight: Ushabti Bone
You want to be layring your highlights vertically on areas of muscle to get a nice sinuey effect and if the highlights aren't popping as i like i usually wash the recesses in aggrax for a bit more definition.
Samuel Barnes
It's quite a monopose model, and the arms/wings are impossible to point anyway than slightly downwards (or even more downwards) due to the lower pair of shoulderplates, and most of the model's leaning to the left.
So I sawed of the lower shoulderplates, quite difficult considering how they're attached to the body, and repositioned it to a cooler pose, and reattached both pairs of shoulderplates.
The main problem with this model, imho, is that the wings, pointing downwards, covers most of thf cool parts of the model, and is a quite dull pose.
Gabriel Robinson
Well then kudos to you because your work makes it look like I'd expect it should look.
Asher Rodriguez
Seems likely, but all the battle damage he said he painted on by hand with just a dark and light tone. No actual chipping.
Hunter Ross
Will this model do for a chaos spawn?
Austin Brown
It's probably not what he did, but the sponge method could work to emulate what he did.
Take a piece of sponge, dip it in some brown paint and wipe it off (you're aiming for something similar to a drybrush, but with a sponge). Sponge the brown over the parts you want to be weathered, and then paint a very thin line of your highlight colour at the bottom of the 'chips' - this simulates depth and makes them look like chips in the paintwork showing the base.
For the weathering on the legs, I've heard good things about putting a blob of Typhus Corrosion on the feet and then dragging it upwards with a q-tip for that grimy look. Hope this helps.
Sebastian Butler
How large is that base? The model seems a bit on the small side.
Brayden Brooks
Just about any asymmetrical monster with tentacles will make a good chaos spawn.
Christian Bennett
40mm
I'm poor and this would save me 10 pounds
Ryan Nelson
If one of those krom spawns costs 15pounds, you're spending more per model since 25pounds gets you two plastic spawns that are customizable and come with many useful bits for converting other models into spawns.
Anthony Taylor
I only need 1 spawn for my army though. Also it only cost me 8.
Jackson Lee
backed up a bit
Lucas Hall
What models do you guys use for KDK heralds?
Andrew Hall
Heralds are simply pimped-out lesser daemons.
Make the most badass bloodletter you can for your herald of khorne.
Lincoln Stewart
dear RI user. TN user here, your gift is very much appreciated and I'm gonna get to painting this dragon asap. The customs are pretty baller too
In other news, I shipped my secret santa gift today and the eta is Thursday. See you then everybody
Jose Fisher
Pls do a pic of that Dragon once you unboxed it,
Dominic Parker
I wanna see that dragon unboxed too!
Joshua Anderson
Ah nice, glad you like it. I was worried you were going to goof on Santa & retinue, they were kind of a rush job.
Ethan Rogers
sorry for the small image but does anyone know what this spear is from?
Logan Mitchell
Impaler from the Dark Eldar Wyches.
Blake Rogers
Very first mini on the left, second to most recent finished project on the right. I still have a lot to learn for doing skin, but the kilt on the right was a blast to paint.
Jordan Hill
next to santa for scale
Christopher Morgan
Wow, that thing is really big.
Josiah Allen

Jackson Perez
Assembled my first full figure in ten years today. I'm painting a Cairn Wraith as a gift for my girlfriend, using shades of dark blue (my colour) and dark purple (her colour). Nice bit of fun.
Isaiah James
>after blowing my load on a lot of chinese recasts decide to get some proper forgeworld shit as well because you know why not, I do like GW and them after all, time to balance out the economic /karmic scales a bit >buy a warhound titan >arrives >now waiting for forgeworld to respond to me to replace it because pretty much the only parts that aren't horrendously messed up are the armour plates, shoulders and carapace. >have a look at other peoples recast titans, they're of much higher quality >assume I got dicked by a bad batch
I'm not a stranger to resin by any means, I've spent a lot of time sorting out questionable chinese quality in the past but this is taking the piss, it's worse than any knockoff and at a premium. I was really looking forward to making this model too.
Austin Brooks
>still buying toblerone
wew

> I got you this grim reaper as a token of my love
You do you user, you do you.

She got me back into miniatures, and I think she underestimated just how passionate I got over them back in the day. I owe her some gratitude. She's also chronically depressed and doesn't care if she lives or dies, so I'll give it to her and say: "This may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me." That's a triple meaning right there.
Jaxson Sanders
>She's also chronically depressed and doesn't care if she lives or dies
So my gift to you is the personification of death in miniature form?
Bentley Gomez

Dylan Torres

Tyler Fisher
>"This may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me."
"Here's a gift that I put a lot of meaning into, but you won't give a shit about" I've been around people that are "chronically depressed". They are a drain on you mentally and physically and unless they are getting help for their problems, they will wear you down and bring you down to their level. It's happened to me, and I hate seeing it to other people. You might think you're able to "fix" it, but you never will be able to. Get out while you still can.
Juan Bennett
You're buying a suicidal depressed girl a grim reaper? It's like you're egging her on you maniac.
Camden Diaz
how would you say I could pimp out my little nigga
Sebastian Scott
Personally I love that miniature
but I have to agree, you're kinda asking for a trip to the morgue to identify the body with that one....
also I don't understand what you mean by "This may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me." That's almost like turning your gift into a chore, that she's responsible for giving you.
Levi Bailey
Yes! Made me giggle Nah, there's no "fixing" her. I love her and I have loved her for over ten years, no worries m8. Oh no, she is a very morbid person who takes comfort in mortality.
Guys, I suppose I could have explained myself in more detail, but there's no reason for alarm.
William Taylor
I've painted 10 minis at my 1st atempt to paint anything.
Dominic Foster
I've been in the same situation with forge world vs chinkshit. chinkshit is flawless, and just looks great, but forge world has some sort of fucked stuff. they will just send you a whole model to replace it, and it will arrive very quickly, in my experience
