Wrath of Kings General?

Can we start a Wrath of Kings General thread? Anyone playing it at all? Second edition came out this summer, and the rules are free, and all the First Edition unit rules are free. Second Edition things I am not sure of.

Love the minis, but I dunno if it can support and entire general be itself.

WEll, is anoyone on Veeky Forums playing? We are going to have a demo/starter game over the holidays at our FLGS, but i never see the game mentioned here.

Thank you for commenting at least. I guess this can die the page 10 death ...

I was able to snatch the Goritsi and Teknes starter boxes plus the Kickstart expansions off of ebay for cheap, so at least I have enough to do some demo games, but I've never seen it played or stocked in a shop.

It's definitely a cool game rules wise, and their battle reports look sweet, though I'm a bit worried since every official one shown ended in Goritsi winning.

Never heard of it- wtf is this and can it be played on Vassal/tabletop sim?

Probably, the rules are pretty simple. Big selling points of it are asymmetrical objectives: each faction chooses from 2 lists out of the five for objectives; non-points army building; your force has so many slots, you can trade some slots for things like specialists and more powerful models take 2 slots; and a one roll system that goes off of a chart on the models card; when attacking, you roll a D10 and compare it, the chart is a list of symbols that represent different ways of avoiding the attack (blocking, dodging, parrying, etc.) and if the attack ignores a defense type, it lists it in the attack. There's only a few inherent ones that ignore a defense type, which is like ranged avoiding parry and such, but most don't come into play (last I checked, there's a single model in the entire game with a normal ranged attack, everything else is magical).

There's a small group at my local shop who play, but not with any great regularity. We're trying to set up a monthly day for it; fingers crossed it takes off.

Have some jellyfish men! I'm thinking the bodies should be different colors than the tentacles, but it'll do for now

Nope, I was wrong, there's now 2 models in the game with a normal ranged attack.

I don't play but I bought a box of Nasier Bloodmasks and the material is absolute rubbish. The mouldlines aren't too bad but regular angled blunt edge didn't agree with the material at all. Are all kits like this or have they made improvements?

How does the gameplay actually compare to Confrontation's? The models look neat (Though I don't like the repeated poses) but hearing that this has a bunch of ex-Rackham guys behind it sounds tantalizing.

Pre or post plastics Confrontation?

Pre-plastics, the only one that counts

I haven't had much luck either. The plastic seems fine, but for 40mm and 50mm based models I've noticed the joints don't quite fit right without excessive filing.

I can't say much on Confrontation, but the rules are actually pretty elegant in this one. Things are clear, and there are lots of MtG style keywords that are consistent over many models. Gameplay wise think Warmachine scale with Malifaux style objectives and turn order.

Their official battle reports are actually pretty bitching. I'd take a look at them to get a feel for how the game plays. Plus they're using studio paintjobs so all of the models look beautiful.

Nice job, looking forward to seeing those bases painted.

I think its mostly the art guys on this one. There's not much that reminds me of Confrontation's gamestyle. And, as said, the rules are pretty nice and clean.

It plays like a good version if Alkemy.

>There's not much that reminds me of Confrontation's gamestyle
All things considered that might be a good thing

For starting, how much outside of the starter sets should I get to really have a full army? I want to get the two player starter set, and get the starter set for Nasier and Goritsi (I will probably be the only one playing the game, so I need two armies for all comers). Beyond that, what models should I be looking for?

That should be enough to run a full game by itself, but getting one of the character boxes for each faction wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Also if you're looking to shop hit up ebay, since occasionally people are offloading their kickstarter pledges for cheap.

The largest game size is
>5x Rank 1 Leaders
>24x Rank 1 Infantry
>4x Rank 1 Specialists
And 4 more or either
>3x Rank 1 Infantry or
>1x Rank 1 Specialist

The 2 player starter and the starter sets give you 5 ranks of leaders, 30 ranks of infantry, and 4 ranks of specialists. You could grab another specialist box or the big Rank 2 specialists, like the Great Horn or Blood Engine, and you'd have 2 full armies. Note, things like the werewolves are Rank 2, so they take 2 slots each.

>hit up ebay
Already got a Goritsi box that way, really nice value with that one. I will check out the boxes and see which interest me, thanks for the advice.

>give you 5 ranks of leaders, 30 ranks of infantry, and 4 ranks of specialists
Per side, I should say.

The game looks fun. The Morale mechanic gives me some heeby jeebys though - being able to route the whole army when they lose their Morale points makes me worry I don't have a good handle on the tactics.

Having five levels of deployment zones for each side is a cool idea, however.

So how do you base these? They all have these hollow bases - it's a lot of volume to fill.

Sand, PVA glue, and cork as with the official paintjobs.

I can't find the 50 and 80 mm bases on CMON - are there other places that make these?

Wyrd and Privateer Press sell them in small packs.

I have the starter set of NAsier and I absoluetely love both the minis and the gameplay, but...
Its just gettig ust since no fucking one plays in my entire country.

If you're wanting players you're going to have to start packing a second faction user.

Welcome to the dead/unpopular games club.

The Morale isn't that bad, since in the smallest game the most moral you can make someone loose is 4, so you still have to kill some enemy models to make them run. It's an interesting mechanic, though you should get little chips or something to represent it, in the smallest game you can have 4-7 morale, though in general you don't want to take an army of all rank 2 guys, which gives you less moral. It's an interesting game, though I have found that certain objectives are a lot more unbalanced than others for certain armies. I saw that a group got around this by having each side pick 3 different motivations, and then your opponent would take one away and you had 2 left to choose from. Also the lower Morale you have, the more likely you are going to get initiative, so if you start loosing more morale you get initiative easier and that can change the tides.

here's one of the 2 guys I got painted, one of my Gutter Friars.

the material is super rubbery I've found with my Hadross, but it's not all that bad since their spears/tridents haven't broken at all with them, though they do bend easily.

Force your friends to play it with you, and play it at the store while offering to demo the game for people. Scenes for games don't just start on their own, though I will concede that CMoN doesn't do a lot to promote the game.
