>shoot dragons >Conserve never >And never, ever cut a deal with an ammo
Ehhhh. The way I figure it, neijia is an art in which you use your force of will to generate enough magical energy to do the clobbering. AIs and drones aren't able to interact with magic in that way normally.
Like a lot of these questions, the best answer is going to be 'ask your GM. If you're the GM, consider allowing it and review the rule later if it becomes a problemm'
Jason Morales
So for one reason or another I am going to put an awakened axolotl into our next run.
What do you think would an awakened axolotl's shtick be and what critter powers it should have.
I am honestly drawing a bit of a blank her, other than "make it cute as hell"
Ian Lopez
But Drones don't really have any mental scores to draw upon. AI, on the other hand, do. I think if they're jumped into the drone directly(thus basically being one 'in soul' with the drone), it makes sense that they can smack it up. Frankly, I'd also allow it for riggers.
Christopher Green
Don't cry too much if the players frag it.
Jayden Long
Where can I find the Shadowrun novels in electronic format?
David Barnes
lol, no. The way I know my players, they will move heaven and hell to steal it and then just keep it as a pet.
This has happened before. One character kidnapped a librarian from a place they were checking out to get info, simply because "she looked cute". They collect NPCs, like they are pokemon...
James Price
Literally just make a Mudkip
Evan Jones
Why is the "art" mega full of gay porn?
Ryan Gonzalez
One of my players had a technomancer dolphin as a companion. The others got jealous and started collecting them all. I had to draw the line when they wanted to get a barghest puppy.
Their hideout was basically a menagerie of highly dangerous critters and drones with a few ammo crates to call furniture. It was kinda crazy.
Brandon Perez
Lamia Liminal Body fucking when?
Brody Phillips
>Their hideout was basically a menagerie of highly dangerous critters and drones with a few ammo crates to call furniture. It was kinda crazy. Please tell me that at least once they came home and found the remains of some fool who had the mistake of trying to sneak in during their absence.
Evan White
I just want some fucking support for snekbody via SURGE. They can't keep getting away with this.
John Morris
I don't see any gay porn There's some nsfw shit and I saw a pic of a chick getting fucked, but the only thing I saw that could be categorized as 'gay' was a trap I'm not scrolling through all 1.6 GB or w/e of that shit
Alexander Brown
No, but they did get to unleash the hounds (and everything else) on some dudes that tracked them to their hideout. It was 2 dozen guys vs 4 high tier runners and their animal pals with a special guest appearance from The Drones.
No one made it out, Lone Star got called, Lone Star got fucked up, they had to move to their Rigger's garage in Redmond where they built IKEA furniture so they could crash on the Rigger's couch.
Evan Roberts
The future is gay~
No, actually because I simply uploaded the massive folder I collected for my own SR game and we just roll that way.
Hunter Brown
I want drider bodies.
Josiah Lewis
Dude, just do Naga+Shiva arms.
Zachary Rogers
I refuse.
Owen Butler
Naga
I don't care if they are sentient, I want lamias, not a Sixth World Seaman.
Jackson Allen
Come on man, any decent GM would let you bio sculpt some decent tittage on there.
Colton Gutierrez
>Naga is born with SURGEd human arms >Parents abandon her for being a freak >Is raised by metahumans >Has intense self worth issues over being a huge snek and no one wants to date her >gets the most luxurious tit job, I mean GOD, they are breath taking. >pays for it by running
Charles Morgan
Not my proudest fap. Those tits are amazing though.
Landon Taylor
>Are AIs allowed to use Neijia in drone bodies to wallop Spirits? >Is there any reason why they wouldn't be able to? The character must be in physical contact with the spirit. Rigging does not count. AIs have no physical presence.
John Morgan
Is it just me, or is the pain editor the best piece of ware? Initiative boosting might be slightly more important, but I have never played a character without an editor.
Gabriel Myers
Wouldn't that just be a re-fluff of the Centaur body?
Hudson Ross
With 6-8* the cost/availability increase for upgrades, instead of *4.
David Jenkins
First time GM here with a question. Extended Tests.
Do you allow you runners to use Edge? It seems odd tome to allow them to spend edge on a roll when there's really no resource management involved in making the decision to use it. The only reason to not spend it on extra dice seems to be hinging on avoiding a glitch, but the extra dice already do that, in a way.
Similarly, would you let a player buy their hits on an extended test? I lean towards no, as it trivializes the test anyway. I already wouldn't make a rigger roll to do routine maintenance on their vehicle, so I figure this kind of test would be for something more serious/severe anyway.
If an example test is needed, consider the test to be a mages' initiation test. Would you allow either there?
Alexander Jones
I don't care. I want proper lamias.
Jacob Hill
Why would you ever -not- let runners use edge? It represents, above all things, dumb luck.
Alexander Diaz
Frankly, I'd say it edges out initiative, but that might just be me speaking because my GM mercilessly tossed goon after goon at me and despite me always winning initiative, I slowly got bogged down in stun damage and would have to shed armor just so I could actually take physical damage.
Cooper Turner
Both of those are possible with Limnal Body; the three presented in the book are just examples.
Ethan Hill
Maybe a SURGEd Character with Paraplegic. Even with that quality you still have decent move speeds as the use of a wheelchair is assumed, it's just you aren't using it to attain them.
Blake Clark
I -need- proper support.
I don't see nagas getting that penalty.
Austin Jenkins
And it's no like the ones in the book are properly fleshed out anyway, it's pretty much GM fiat territory. While we're at it I'd like to see an octopus one.
Daniel Long
The 5ed addition doesn't actually have a defined penalty other than you can't do things that require legs, because you don't have any (and a small bump to lifestyle costs to accomodate your unusual physical requirements. Guess what your Lamia doesn't have?
Luke Phillips
My point exactly.
Nathan Mitchell
>Rigging does not count Why the heck not?
Jace Miller
Well regeneration obviously. What I want to know is why do Axolotls still exist in the future? They're already extinct in the wild IRL.
Leo Rivera
Chummer is being weird again. Costs for the Adept power Improved Ability's costs are out of wack when discounted by Adept's Way.
Joshua Johnson
You don't see them being penalised for not having legs, despite the fact they don't have legs? You don't think their unusual physiology would cause increased lifestyle cost? Care to justify that?
Connor Clark
Nagas don't have a movement penalty.
Jaxon Thomas
So I'm about to run a one shot for players who haven't played much or any Shadowrun before. This got me thinking of getting some stuff set up for the next time I do this. I'm thinking I'll have some pre-generated characters. Using the core rules, 5e specifically, I'm planning on making six characters. One for each archetype. What would be the best races for: >Face >Mage >Decker >Technomancer >Rigger >Street Samurai
Also curious as to how I upload .pdfs. Just like posting pictures? When I get the short story mostly written I was gonna share it here for others to use along with the different characters.
Brody Butler
Don't make new players play a decker or rigger. Just don't.
Jason Adams
Or a technomancer.
Tyler Edwards
My players want to start a new campaign. Problem is I have no idea where to set it.
Was thinking about having them play as triad members after finishing Sleeping Dogs or maybe cops. No idea.
Any suggestions on interesting places?
Ian King
Looks correct to me. The discount only applies to one level of the power, not all of them.
Juan Jenkins
Has there ever been a campaign in India? I'd play that.
Adam Taylor
Is that errata somewhere? All I have for reference is the Core book, which only says that it's .5PP per level (without the discount) up to level x 1.5.
Michael Miller
Up to level x1.5 skill rating, rather.
Gabriel Garcia
Any advice for putting together a party face slash black magic using elf mage dabbling in summoning?
Benjamin Taylor
Does the flashback system really not count as an Invoked Memory Stimulator for the purposes of constructing a Cyberzombie?
Ryan Allen
Drop the decker, rigger, and technomancer unless you want to make your players hate Shadowrun.
Face: Elf for charisma Mage: Anything but Troll or Ork because of shit mental stats Samurai: Troll, Ork, Dwarf for good physical stats
Humans can fill any niche competently.
Jose Perry
I'm not sure what you mean, that's how adept ways work as described in street grimroire. The base cost of the power is 0.5PP per level The max level is (skill) * 1.5 With adept way discounts, you get to halve the PP cost of one level of one power for every 2 PP you have. So if you apply the discount to level 6 improved ability, one of the levels only costs 0.25, the other 5 still cost 0.5 for a total of 2.75PP
Gavin Bennett
>The character must be in physical contact with the spirit
Owen Reed
They are.
David Jones
No they aren't. The drone is. They are controlling the drone, they are not the drone. Or do you also think mages ought to be able to use a mana spell against a rigger three blocks away because they can see their rotodrone?
Owen Brown
Huh. I misunderstood how they worked then. I've only ever used a Way once or twice and it must never have come up. Perhaps I was using powers without ranks. Thanks for the explanation.
Michael Jackson
They can certainly use it against the rotodrone itself.
>they are not the drone With pilot origins, they basically are. Seems to me like you're splitting hairs.
Owen Sanders
Naga are a snake, a Lamia is an awkward hybrid of the snake and humanoid.
Caleb Lee
If you're going to be facetious about it, then control thoughts vs the rigger, because drone is in LOS.
Kayden Phillips
>awkward No.
Alexander Stewart
Okay. >facetious Oh, do buzz off.
Oliver Gomez
Hey so AIs learn programs at chargen, does that means those are programs they can use in ANY device they jump into and they can also use whatever programs are already in the device or that they can ONLY use those programs?
Gavin Ramirez
Speaking of drones, Yekka, in Chummer drone arms don't actually have their capacity listed.
Parker Bailey
>does that means those are programs they can use in ANY device they jump into Yes.
>they can also use whatever programs are already in the device Yes, but don't forget the AI him-/her-/itself takes up one or two program slots depending on their Depth and the device's rating.
William Jackson
Hey, I've given you all I can to model your setting inappropriate waifu, if this doesn't satisfy you, you'll just have to go Snekless.
Ayden Lewis
You've given me nothing. Nothing at all! Begone with you, and leave me to mourn.
Robert Hughes
I'm fiddling around, trying to make an IA. The advanced programs look snazzy and all but I'm not sure how to make it all efficient, priority wise, and if I wouldn't be better of buying points. Tips?
Thomas Reed
First question, what do you want to be able to do in-game with your virtual ass?
Jaxon Cox
Fuck with spiders, help the team and play practical jokes, in that order.
Kayden King
My idea is to make a white hat IA with a very partial understanding of the shadows, seeing shadowrun more as righting wrongs than as mercenary work, and she hates the evil spiders who made her into a slave to the MAN. So yeah, she'll hack that file, but if that stupid spider spots her, the poor fucker better have a good biofeedback filter.
Leo Harris
(Just realised I keep saying IA, it's AI, of course, I'm just bad at forgetting my french)
Asher Cooper
If your players' characters had any sense, they WOULD frag it, or at least keep a safe distance.
The awakened version thereof. Didn't you see the name and make the connection? Or, hell, the whole rightward paragraph and extrapolate what it was talking about?
Gives a pretty bad name to salanders with frills on its face of all stripes, you dig?
Chase Cooper
If it's an awakened one, why do they just call it hellbender? That's like calling drop-bears and koalas the same thing.
Nicholas Hughes
>Fuck with spiders I'd you mean physically pump up your CHA and get a metahuman drone with realistic features and a cyberdick/-vagina If you mean on the matrix then tough luck cause AI hackers are shit
Adam Butler
That's What I'm realising as I read the rules. Even with the fun bits like Uncertainty (useless from what I see but hilarious nonetheless). Oh well. I'm just gonna do a good old ex-Schockwellenreiter. Thanks anyways.
Angel Stewart
>Schockwellenreiter
Are you a regular at the offical forums? If not, I'll refer you to this my Build over there:
Its for a Combat oriented Char, but should give you enough pointers on how to build something else.
Justin Cooper
>Are you a regular at the offical forums? Looking to become one actually, I am in dire need of RPG
>Its for a Combat oriented Char, but should give you enough pointers on how to build something else. Thanks chummer! That'll help. I'm quite rusty and even though I've read the books tons of time I've only played decker once at a convention, and I miss that good old cyberfuckery side to shadowrunning.
Lucas Young
Addendum:
Even if you want to build a fully virtual AI:
Use Karmagen, Prio fucks you over.
Jeremiah Young
No sweat. Feel free to ask whatever questions you have.
Sadly, there is only a limited amount of people around who actually bothered enough with AIs in 5e to go through the shitheap that is the current setting of AI rules.
Speaking of the additional programs that AIs can get, sadly a lot of them suck donkeyballs.
John Brooks
Also, is it normal that in Karmagen you don't get no free knowledge skill points in Chummer?
Connor Reed
Because in SR, the entire original species was supplanted by the mutated version thereof.
The only living Hellbender is the Hellbender. There are no more Hellbenders, only Hellbenders.
Jose Price
Yeah, but they're funny! Like Psychotropic Feedback and Uncertainty, useless, but so much fun. Also, sadly, I don't speak german, I just want to play a schockwellenreiter because I want to look into their lore, they piqued my interest. I'm actually French.
Hmmm... Now I have a need for a french hacker group. All chainsmokers and baguette-lovers. I'm French, it's not racist when I say baguette.
Wyatt Phillips
Yeah, english rules aren't clear on that so Yekka goes by raw baseline and requires you to enable houserules to change that.
If you are playing krautrules, its explicitely stated that you get free knowledge points though.
Juan Foster
So, how should I deal with the jobs for player contacts?
It would be reasonable if contact will hire player for some running as a payment for some in-game favor earlier, but how can I motivate other players to participate in a job with low (or non-existant) paycheck? Most of contacts aren't rich.
What kind of side objectives I can add, except for a chance to get some good loot and fence it?
Angel Stewart
You can enable it as an optional rule in the Options menu.
Nathaniel Baker
Also, where can I go look for a game? The Dumpshock forums seem to be down.
Ryan Moore
>French Ah, the other european nation that saved Shadowrun
Here, have a PDF of my AI
Jason Gonzalez
Normally your players have a fixer, this fixer has contacts. Those contacts, usually johnsons have money to spend on hiring deniable assets.
Also, a plus is if your characters had another reason to stay together other than "we like each other and are a rounded out team", like have them do a run and then someone comes and screws them over and they all want to get back at them. Make that person a real dick about it too. That's as basic as it gets, but it works for most groups. That's just an idea though. In my last group, our main reason to stay together was that we were all psychos who wanted to pull off a heist on the moon and were raising money in order to build our very own space ship.
Jeremiah Perry
shadowruntabletop.com
But there are a lot of cocksuckers on there
Isaac Murphy
Wait wait wait how did France saved Shadowrun? I know we're awesome but I didn't get that memo. Also, once again, thanks, you're a real pal.
Tyler Gonzalez
>cocksuckers Heh, there always are, but at least I'll get to play. If they're real big cocksuckers I can always gtfo.
Nathaniel Reed
Aaaaand it doesn't work either.
Joseph Kelly
Reddit runs games as Runnerhub and ShadowNet, or you could try and get into a Roll20 game. Dumpshock and shadowruntabletop have been down for ~12 hours now. Not sure why, they're separate hosts and such.
Wyatt Price
Thanks for advice, but you're a bit off, senpai. I was talking about Contacts - all of street docs, talismongers, pirates, beat cops, etc., who's acquainted with characters and may offer some help or services. They have enormous plot potential, I just need more solid motivation then "friends of my friend" in order to drag players into it.
Bentley Kelly
Ah, in that case, well, your players can choose not to help them, but the contacts probs will resent them for it, or see them as untrustworthy. On the upside, they could give them access to rarer gear that they're not exactly supposed to have, give them more frequent discounts, or owe them a favor. A cyberdoc could for exemple give them a 25% group buy discount, a beat cop would try to give a false alarm at a moment the team needs it, an especially talented talismonger could offer them an audience with a huge spirit-god when they need to see one, and then of course your friend the go ganger could show just in the nick of time, gunning down anyone that tries to lay a hand on her bro.
Also, you could have them participate in the Exchange. That's always hilarious.
Angel Kelly
Bottom line: if you prove yourself to be useful, people will want to keep you alive.
