Previous thread: Do you have any Christmas plans for your party?

Removing the Discord from the OP was suggested. I've never used it so I don't have any opinion one way or another and don't want to fuck with it if it's actually used, so here's a poll.

better to have it than to not in case someone wants to use it

not like it's taking up a ton of real-estate in the OP

Yeah the 5e general OP is pretty well organized. I'm used to trying to clean up the mess that is Veeky Forums OP pastas.

What spreadsheet format can be uploaded to Veeky Forums? I swear I've seen them before.

Ho ho ho!

I think we all agreed that Arcane Archer needed to scale a bit better, with more arrows available at higher levels. That said, I think some of its powers were really cool, and I'll try to make a magic bow for my party's (revised) ranger drawing inspiration from those. What are the best and most fun Arcane Shots for this? I'm thinking Piercing Arrow, Seeking Arrow and Shadow Arrow.

>and when all was said and done, Rudolph reined supreme; evolved and ready to party

.....toys....and presents....

a sphere of annihilation

No, the Arcane Archer needs to DIE.
And be reborn as the playtest feat, but with the caveat that a character can only fire 1 enspelled arrow per round.
The other problem with the feat, that other characters could 'borrow' spell slots by firing the AA's arrows, doesn't matter anymore, magic stone already lets them do that.
Having more Wizard/Ranger spells that act like stronger magic stones would be cool too.

>Paladins of treachery and tyranny

Welp, here is an image until I figure out if spreadsheets can be uploaded.

I created this to compare the items available through the faction system in AL. Though I get a strong impression that /5eg/ prefers homebrew, and might not even play AL. But what do you think of the balance? It seems to me like Order of the Gauntlet gets shafted a bit, unless I'm underestimating the strength of Cloak of Protection.

I made this when I noticed that the rarities weren't exactly what they are said to be in the .PDF I will post next. WotC isn't exactly known for publishing accurate information.

>the playtest feat
Would you care to share that?

The Cloak of Protection is boring, but solid, and also cheaper than enchanting your armor.
IDK, the only item I'd save aggressively for is the Cloak of Elvenkind, that makes anybody a spy. Everything else is nice, but doesn't change gameplay as much.

>not having everything from Next saved, categorized and then laminated IRL just in case of catastrophic computer death

CRAWLING IN MY SKIN

Prerequisite: The ability to cast at least one spell of 1st level or higher, proficiency with the long bow or short bow
As an action, you can imbue a spell of 1st level or higher into an arrow you are holding. You cast the spell as normal, but the spell effect does not occur until after the arrow is used in an attack. You can only imbue a spell that affects one creature or a spell that has an area such as a sphere, cloud, or cylinder. The arrow holds the spell effect until the end of your next long rest or until it is used in an attack that hits. If you cast a spell that affects one creature, the next time the imbued arrow hits a creature with an attack, the attack deals damage as normal, and then you resolve the spell’s effect against the target. If you imbued a spell that has an area, the creature does not need to be hit for the spell to take effect. Instead, you resolve the spell’s effect from the space or creature you targeted. If the arrow hits a creature, damage is dealt as normal. Once you resolve the spell’s effect, the spell vanishes from the arrow.

As you can see, it's pretty broken, but could be fixed, instead of going with that 'I can't believe it's not a battlemaster with a bow' shit.

help me /5eg/
I'm in the process of making stuff for my Spelljammer game, and have found a very nice Psion to use. I have already made the psychic warrior, and the soulknife, as archetypes for the fighter and rogue, respectively.
What I'm stuck on is the Wilder. I'm not using the Mystic, as it sucks ass. If I were to make the wilder a subclass, which base class would be the best option? Changing a spellcaster into the Wilder seems like a terrible idea, but I also don't like the idea of upgrading the Wilder's HD to d12 by making it a Barbarian. What do?

Just play a sorcerer?

I feel the same way. The weakness I see in some of these items is their attunement requirement. Cloak of Elvenkind is definitely one of the best items there and it's considered uncommon.

>I'm not using the Mystic, as it sucks ass
No, you suck.
What's the problem with the Mystic?

I'm not the one playing, I'm DMing. Since I've already made two subclasses and use a Psion base class, I don't want to make the Wilder the only refluff with spell points instead of spell slots.

A party with those cloaks, and no heavy armors, is a thing of beauty. With group checks they'll basically never fail.

How badly am I crippling myself if I use the same weapon from level 1-20? I'm told 5e is balanced around players not "needing" magic gear.

I kinda want to play someone who uses an heirloom weapon and chooses not to replace it.

You'd be fine as long as you don't end up fighting tons of incorporeal undead and fiends and so on, things that resist or are immune to nonmagical weapons. If your DM is cool your weapon could probably become magical at some point anyway.

That's fine. If you need a better weapon, the ancient war spirits can bless your ratty old sword with new magic and a fresh coat of "fucks up the undead"ness

>Mystic is fine
It has medium armor, a d8 HD, and the fact that Psionic Strike exists. It's fucking shit for playing as a real goddamn Psion, it's far more similar to a damn Paladin than any psionic class from previous edition

Yeah getting power over time would be cool and is a somewhat common trend in (japanese) fantasy.

You'll be fine. If it's really that big a deal that you need to overcome nonmagical weapon resistance, a friendly caster full caster or paladin should be able to cast Magic/Elemental weapon for you when you need it. Alternatively, you could make a point of seeking to have it permanently magiced up.

> it's far more similar to a damn Paladin than any psionic class from previous edition
>Never playing d20 modern
>Never playing 4e
>lol whats a battlemind guys

If no classes have "dead levels", what happens?

You could just make up better awakened discipline, that right now yeah, suck ass.
Maybe make them a robe+d4 class, on the same chassis, but there's no need to reinvent the wheel.

Dead levels aren't really a thing in 5e as it is.

Name a single instance of a class in 5e having a dead level?

And just to head off any goalpost moving now, I don't mean functionally dead levels where there is a class feature that you think sucks ass, I mean actual dead levels where all you get are hit points and an extra HD.

Yeah, uh, I don't think I'd ever allow that, not until it was heavily nerfed. Feels like it steps too much on the ranger's turf, whose arrow spells require their bonus action AND concentration. It destroys action economy, because now you can both shoot an arrow to damage and cast a spell to fuck'em up at the same time as long as you prep in advance, and you know players will. It also favors casters over martials. Besides:
>be warlock
>imbue 2 arrows with your spells
>short rest
>repeat as many times as you can

With all that said, this feat is not I what asked for.

Exactly, but if you just changed it to
>as a 'Cast a Spell' action, imbue AND shoot arrow
it would be perfectly fine, and would be particularly good for EKs and Rangers, that could use their dex and fighting style to shoot magic effects.

Best way to nerf the feat would be to say that the enchantment imbuing the spell to the arrow fades 1 hour later (basically after a short rest).

Now, if you're saying you just want to give your enchanted arrows additional elemental damage of your choice by burning a spell slot, then just do that.

Hmm, something like druid 3, bard 7 and the like where you don't get class features?
But it's really a minor thing, as those classes still get spells.

New spell levels, it's considered a feature.

>Druid 3
You get 2nd level spells
>Bard 7
You get 4th level spells

In a sense most of the full caster classes (Wizard, Sorcerer, Cleric, Bard, Druid) have dead levels, though their 'dead levels' are usually when they get new spell levels along with hit points and an extra hit die.

Yeah, hence why I said they still get spells.
No worries then.

A new level of spells is a considerably powerful feature, user.

New spell level access is as far removed from a dead level as possible, boyo.

is this rule enforced? my group is doing new characters soon but we dont have any humans I dont think. I am doing a scourge aasimar goliath rogue/monk/fighter with the haunted one background. he has a dai-katana (greatsord) filled with the souls of his clan which he almost killed off fully. I dont know how nice my DM is going to be with the enchanting and races we choosed so please give me some advice Veeky Forums.

I also think its a little bit racist to think of the game this way so maybe I can say that to him.

I can't help but notice that you appear to have gay porn in the background

>Just read through the volo's description of goblins/hobgoblins/bugbears
FUCK, man. My LMoP game would have been a lot cooler if I had read these descriptions a couple months ago. I honestly played bugbears and hobgoblins the same, and mixed up their names a couple times. Anyone else drastically improving their monster RP after reading through this book?

It's not even bait at this point, you've just thrown the whole damn rod into the water.

Bonus points for Cuckold porn in the background.

My dream is to someday run LMoP and replace the head of the first goblin cave with a nilbog.

>Cuck porn
>Not gay sex WITH HATS
ehh/10, at least you're refreshing the stale memes.

>Search Results: "Cuckold'
Eh.

It depends on the system and the DM, really.
Sometimes demi-humans have their own classes, even!
It's a bit of worldbuilding that filters down to the mechanics, it's nice, but if anybody should be the exception to the rule that's a player character.

I still believe it'd be a bullshit feat. So EKs have to wait until 7th level to cast a cantrip and make one attack in the same round, at the cost of their action and bonus action, but now any 1st level variant human bard or cleric can say "fuck that" and use only their action to both shoot an arrow and cast a spell (possibly at longer range than normal). That said, this feat also severely undermines Valor Bard's fucking capstone. Yeah, sounds like complete bullshit.

I'm not really trying to do any of that, I just wanted to make a cool magic bow for the ranger using the Arcane Shots from UA.

...

Can you fucking not.

When do we get new UAs and for which class?

Sorcerer and NEVER

Ranger - January 9th
Rogue - January 19th
Sorcerer - January 26th
Warlock - February 2nd
Wizard - February 9th

It's the sort of feat that HAD to appear in the player's guide, and be part of the basic balance of the game.
Maybe we'll get that with edition 5.5...

Ranger should be January 12th, my bad.

Thanks man, we're getting more for the ranger?
Hopefully they go beyond the stereotypical ranger.

Hopefully we do get a feat that enables the caster-weapon arts to come online a little earlier.

What the fuck did you just fucking try to bait me with, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my kek on the /b/, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Habbo, and I have over 300 confirmed bans. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the master baiter of this entire chinese pictogram site. You are nothing to me but just another opportunity. I will frustrate your rectum with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with posting this low-tier bait at me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of ebin trolls across the myriad subreddits and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your idea of bait. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can bait you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just by typing with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in stale pasta, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the shit they post on /b/ and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the interwebs, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” attempt at bait was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Anyone got the original art of this goblin? Or the name of the artist or something.

Alright so I need some help with this. I want to add a bit about when an attack roll altered by to advantage or disadvantage comes up as 2 20s the player gets to pick the results of the properties tables. And a bit for destroying it involving hitting a sphere of annihilation 1,001 times and then magical explosion and both items are destroyed. And maybe even as a optional rule the wild magic sorcerers when they have a surge of wild magic can pick the result of one table on their next attack with the sword.
The part I need help with is it possible to add all that and not have an extra page added with maybe one paragraph on it? Or at least what can I add to prevent a mostly empty 3rd page?

5egmegaanon.github.io/5etools/classes.html#Sorcerer,0

Paladins, ranger (default), rogue, and sorcerer subclasses done. I'll likely finish up the rest of the big ones tomorrow. Mystic will be pushed back til the next revision to save myself pointless work.

I did actually plan a booyahg in the first encounter, but I couldn't risk my players getting their hands on a wand of fireball that early, and they were already losing the fight, so i had to scrap it.

u da reel MVP nigga

Throw a Booyahg Booyahg Booyahg at them then.

I fucking love that the goblin name for WMS literally just "magic magic magic."

Would a Monk archetype based around stances break anything?

In Two Weapon Fighting, assuming I don't have extra attack can I use my primary attack as a shove and still get the bonus action attack?

Looking for the mega with all the dungeon master guild stuff.

Could someone help me out a bit?

Just so you know, I love you and cherish you. I've missed having a good online generator since I moved on from 4e.

Do you plan to add the weekly UAs, too? I understand if not, just wondering.

Veeky Forums, I COMPLETELY forgot that I have a session in a few hours, and I need to cook up a few encounters FAST.
I have a party of four level 8s. This is what I've prepared for them so far for today.

Fight 1: 8 bandits (CR 1/8)
Fight 2: 1 assassin (CR 8), 1 bandit captain (CR 2), 6 bandits (CR 1/8)
Fight 3: 2 cult fanatics (CR 2), 8 cultists (CR 1/8)
Fight 4: 4 cult fanatics (CR 2), 6 cultists (CR 1/8)
Fight 5: 1 Warlock of the Fiend (Volo, CR 7), 2 cult fanatics (CR 2), 4 cultists (CR 1/8)

Does this seem fair?

Cool, thanks chief.

Completely forgot, since this is Curse of Strahd, they also have help from completely overpowered NPC that is Ezmeralda D'Avenir (CR 8) in all those fights.

Meganon's old MEGA account got the old banhammer for copyright strikes. He didn't bother uploading it on the new account since barely anything ever got contributed to it. It's gone.

Hey there /5eg/, I'm running white plume mountain on christmas morning. would like your input.

1: The vampire in the monster manual looks way too hard for a 6/7th level party, how would you tone him down ? I might just make him 8HD like back in the day

2: I did a somewhat faithful conversion of the giant crab in the boiling lake, but it seems pretty bland. The image was enough to make a memorable fight back in the day, I don't think it's going to cut it nowadays. Any ideas how to spiff him up a bit ?

3: this group never played old school d&d, I was considering whether to let them go in blind, or to give them a bit of a primer beforehand.

The last point is the one I feel the most ambivalent towards, I paid the price for all of my rash moves and learned to love (and not trust too much) the ten foot pole, but as a GM I'm as kiddie gloves as they come. I'm favouring the blind approach at the moment, I'm giving them a scroll of raise dead at the beginning though. I like that It has that "shit's about to get real" feeling.

I'm very much looking forward to the frictionless room

fml problem is I'm at my local gamestore and would like to show the homebrew of the blood hunter class.
I know it is in there cuzz I ripped it from the mega,

Anyone that could upload it for me?

What do?

dmsguild.com/product/170777/Blood-Hunter-Class

...

Here you go, it's reduced in file size to be able to upload so idk what that means though.

Just let them regain arcane shots on short rests and let the number of arcane shots be connected to the proficiency bonus.
At higher levels let them recover 2 arcane shots when rolling for initiative if they don't have any remaining shots.

Nope.

If you make it a ''battlemaster archetype'' that uses ki instead of superiority dice it's golden.

youtube.com/watch?v=r6k-OhUkNqM
Assuming the PCs have their own problems and such, any plot hook works but if they follow it their own problems will increase so as to make the quest not worth it.
But I'm not sure that's the actual meaning and it would be a terrible adventure.

1.) Replace the Vampire with a Vampire Spawn, but give it the Legendary Actions of a full Vampire and 1 use of Legendary Resistance

2.) Keep the crab, it's one of the most memorable moments in the adventure. Make heavy use of environmental effects and battlefield terrain fuckery to keep the party on their toes, but you don't need to buff the crab.

3.) Blind with an in character warning from an NPC about the peril they're likely to face, then give them the scroll.
