Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games.
Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

This continual general for a game that will never actually exist is the definition of sad.
Liam Gonzalez
The rules have been out for years m8, the final release just hasn't happened yet.
Samuel Turner
I'd play that campaign.

A game is never finished, only published.
Admittedly we're not published either but I'm certain Ballad will be one day even if SoS dies.

I've managed to run more full campaigns of this game than any other, so something is going right.

Question: In Laser Whales, what exactly IS Fascism, given the differing history? For that matter what is the dominant Socialist ideology, the one the not-chinese follow? And who represents the capitalist/democratic side of things?
Chase Morgan
It's hard to say, but the analogue for it seems to be Chironic (German) instead of Italian in origin. If I had to guess, it seems like the Chikes rejecting the influence of the hippy progressive UC as well as the globalized capitalist influence of the CIS resulted in what they call fascism in COTV, which is a sort of ultranationalist collectivist ideology centered around a strong autocratic leader, a strong racial identity and intense militarism. International capitalists haven't been explicitly named as part of the "problem" they were reacting to, but that's probably implicit.
It actually sounds more like Japanese nationalism circa WWII than National Socialism, but we'd need to hear the economic side of it before we can really judge that.
We don't know anything about the Yikong or the Hive except that they're commies. Presumably they're Maoists. We know even less about the Democracy faction except that it's apparently run by corporations and capitalist interests. It's interesting that Jimmy describes them as being as bad as the fascists and the commies given that he's supposedly some sort of lolbertarian ancap type.

Has Jimmy always sounded like a chainsmoking middle schooler?
Ethan Bell
Sort of, but we don't know what the economic side of it is. Fascism is also called Corporatism for a reason, it involves heavy cooperation between the State and Capital to be able to fund and fuel a powerful war machine and sustain high corporate taxes without losing business to international markets.
Chiron so far doesn't sound like it has much nationalized industry at all, or a special relationship between the government and corporations, but that might be because we just haven't heard much about it.
Levi Myers
Not quite.

>Sort of They killed or exiled all the heathens and infidels within Chiron, didn't they?
Nathaniel Wilson
It's implied, but unclear whether or not they expelled/killed all foreigners. The island is supposed to only "come around" to the central islands periodically, so there probably weren't that many there to begin with because of their remote nature.
Ian Perez
They definitely killed someone, and then performed some sort of magic ritual to make it so that nobody in the Void could remember the name of the group they killed.
Colton Flores
They Space-Shoah'd the Jews with magic, obviously. Why else is Hollywood gone?
Jeremiah Hill
Are any of these even any good, though?

That still doesn't make it a released or published game. That just means you like to use a particular homebrew. A homebrew that pretty much doesn't exist outside Veeky Forums circles, or to be precise - the part of Veeky Forums that still believes the game will be published.
Hudson Hall

There was that reference to German Genosian refugees setting up in the Rahoos because they escaped some kind of purge back in Chiron.
Xavier Edwards
Normally I'd fight with you about how the game is being actively developed with the assistance of the thread, but I honestly have no idea how much authority Jimmy has in the dev process to implement our critiques, or how much weight he puts in the thread. Most of what we see are his side projects to Swords, and I think that's telling.
Turn Charisma back to divide-by-three, Jimmy, you enormous faggot. Divide-by-two unbalances the entire idea of the skill system, and characters being bad at people by default is far and away better fixed by correcting the shoddy ass skills system and its chargen scaling then by arbitrarily buffing Charisma
Thomas Martin
>Fascism is also called Corporatism for a reason, it involves heavy cooperation between the State and Capital
Yeah no. Quite the opposite really. Corporatism refers to the rule of corporations of interests, not legal persons like companies that have Inc. in their name. The corporations in corporatism are basically trade unions + medieval guilds + gentleman's clubs. The groundwork for the ideology was laid in Catholic encyclicals Rerum Novarum and Quadragesimo Anno as a means to give workers and proletarians self-government and influence on country government without Marxist class-struggle.
For much the same reason it was adopted by various nationalist circles on the turn of the century. The poet Gabriele D'Annunzion led nationalist Italian militias to occupy the former Austro-Hungarian Italian-majority town of Fiume in 1919. Since Italy didn't want to incorporate Fiume out of the fear for Entente, D'Annunzio had to create a state of his own. To this end he employed national-syndicalist Alceste de Ambris, who drafted the "Carnaro Charter", a constitution where the state was ruled by 10 corporations: Industrial and Agricultural Workers Seafarers Employers Industrial and Agricultural Technicians Private Bureaucrats and Administrators Teachers and Students Lawyers and Doctors Civil Servants Co-operative Workers and the tenth, comprised of Nietzschean Overmen (which was a neo-romanticist invention by D'Annunzio himself).
A lot of D'Annunzio's volunteers later became fascists, and Mussolini held the poet in high regard, later incorporating a lot of corporationist thought into the fascist canon. The Doctrine of Fascism says: >When brought within the orbit of the State, Fascism recognizes the real needs which gave rise to socialism and trade unionism, giving them due weight in the guild or corporative system in which divergent interests are coordinated and harmonized in the unity of the State.
Samuel Walker
this is one of the anons working on the updated PDF reporting in, saying that we're trucking along, and it's only taken as long as it has because of the holiday season being very busy, so we haven't had much time to coordinate and structure things
A first revision is not far off, basically. It will have some iffy aesthetics, and possibly quite a few errors here and there, but it's plausible it'll be done within a week, maybe two, though I won't promise anything.
One issue I'm running into is the updated combat section. Not having perused the differences thoroughly, I'm not sure what sections I should keep from the old one. It's hard to do a side-by-side comparison, because they're laid out quite differently.
Prone, Stun, Pain etc. aren't in the updated combat chapter for instance. But are they necessary? Hard to say, because they're in the Injury and Recovery chapter, so should I keep it or not?
Our first draft is intended to be fairly close to the regular SoS PDF, a sort of strictly better replacement rather than an enhancement, at least for now, until the two of us have a talk about how we intend to move forward with the 'project'
Any input is, as always, appreciated.
The current PDF in the repo is not updated, mind, but we'll push our updates soon enough.
Josiah Diaz
No that's redpill.
Camden Collins
>Mussolini held the poet in high regard
Yes, of course that's true; BUUUUUT...
“ When you have a rotten tooth you have two possibilities open to you: either you pull the tooth or you fill it with gold. With D'Annunzio I have chosen for the latter treatment. ”

Gavin Morales
What makes you think I don't do that in their threads, salty SoSfag?
Nicholas Adams
It's been in forever. It's sort of necessary at the moment because of how fucked persuasion RSs are, but it also means that it's super easy to make a character aged that can mind control with persuasion. The whole thing needs to be redone with RSs determined in some way that isn't just spitballing.
James Myers
nice pic. who's the artist?
Robert Reed
I don't think this artist has been named. It may be the art director, Bones, himself. Other artists that are working on it are Frankie Perez and Taylor Davis and a few others, according to the old Facebook account.
I hope they still can licence Darren Tan's stuff.
Dylan Jenkins
There are people working on Song of Swords? Huh, color me surprised

The goblin sucks. Pretty definitely. But King oozes character, and so do a lot of his other character shots. He needs to work on his armor, though. God damn.

There is not, though we could make one if anyone would like to. I prefer things like lore and rules discussion to be recorded in text though, for later reference. That's what's so good about Veeky Forums.
Thanks m8. I ain't that old.
Still experimenting with those. I've now hit a frustrating snag with naval combat as well. Too much of the agency belongs to whoever is steering the ship, the other characters will feel kind of hangalong.
Julian Reed
Well, I'm only a year and a half older than you, so neither am I.
Michael Moore
zoz
Charles Perry
I mean, if we're talking medieval navies, naval engagements are either going to be potshots with archers or boarding action. You aren't making an Age of Sail system for a medieval game, are you?
Thomas Young
No no, nothing as ridiculous as that, though one thing I am considering is going a bit alien on ship design and technology. Might pull a fast one and flip Voscan naval technology for something more analagous to Chinese and Korean ships instead of Cogs, Carracks and Caravels.
Joshua Bailey
That could get interesting.
Dominic Rogers

King conveys "I'm an asshole" really well. Sark is just Dick Spencer if he were an elf expressing maximum dissatisfaction.

I'd have Zells as the ones that came up with the idea, probably for inter tribal warfare, then be all butt hurt when humans steal it.
Levi Bailey
Well it isn't much of a Disco if you're not here queers.

Back from hauling lumber. It seems we have total of 3 people, of which one seems to be Jimmy.
Here's my idea: Lore channel for copying everything Jimmy says into a simple text file, so that when someone actually has time and energy to update the wiki, they don't have to go hunting trough the threads.
Other ideas, welcome. I'll try to keep it as minimalist as possible, because I hate those "Channels for everything under the sun plus shitposting" servers that have nothing but idlers in overwatch and three guys stretched around 20 different channels.
Nathaniel Morgan
Well, had a chat with Jimmy, about socialism, growing almonds and red trees, brown people, old Finnish sayings and recent US military history.
Forgot to say happy birthday to him, but at least we now know that who Galt really is.
Juan Wood
Is is just Jimmy?
Colton Gomez
No, it's this Serbian house flipper. Except he might be an actual vampire.
Benjamin Evans

I'm not sure there's significant content to justify one yet.

There are some articles on the SoS wiki pertaining to it.
Zachary Campbell
