Neither of these are applicable to the ultimate fate of the Elves: they were not defeated militarily by any armies, but returned peacefully to their homelands in the West at the close of the Third Age. The Elves were not "childish" in virtually any regard that I can think of in the first place: if anything, they were more mature than humans, in their centuries-cultivated craftsmanship.
