Goblin Slayer

Everyone's favorite goblin specialist is back! Except this time, it's not goblins.

This comic fucking sucks. It's all edgy rape and murder and the protagonist seems like a self-insert who exists solely to gratify the author's ego by being oh so clever at hunting subhuman retards in a cave. "DURR DID YOU KNOW THAT A LONGSWORD IS A BAD IDEA IN CLOSE QUARTERS, HURR"

Whoa, no shit, tell me more Goblin Slayer man.

Worldbuilding still sucks and everyone is retarded except Goblin Slayer. Well at least his companions seem to be competent.

Done. Wait a month to find out what the scroll does or crossboard on /a/ for spoilers.

Is this worth a shit? It just seems kinda naff.
Oh there's some goblins and some rape and this dude in armor what kills goblins and doesn't afraid of anything.

Am I missing something (this is the only chapter I've ever read) or what?

>Am I missing something
Nope, it's exactly what you described.

RIP AND TEAR

Can I get sauce on the scanlation?

Pretty spot on. Read if you like reading about goblin slaying tactics and seeing the people who don't equip properly for goblins die/get raped. Especially those who don't use proper gear.

>Read if you like reading about goblin slaying tactics
>Title of manga is Goblin Slayer

I don't know why I find this so funny.

>"DURR DID YOU KNOW THAT A LONGSWORD IS A BAD IDEA IN CLOSE QUARTERS, HURR"
This. Author thinks he is smartass but don't understand that warrior can carry several weapons with different reach.

Wasn't that kind of the point though? The party went up into a goblin nest without proper preparations and got fucked.

Before I read this, how much rape is there?

>DID YOU ALSO KNOW THAT A HELMET PROTECTS YOU?
>LET ME DEMONSTRATE THIS BY HEROES GETTING RAPED
This is probably one of the dumbest points, GS demonstrates that good protection works, yet you barely see anyone else wearing it, be it rookies that get destroyed or the heroes above his level.

There's usually a rape victim every 2 chapters or so. It'll lessen from now on I believe though.

Disappointing.

You got to be shitting me

Have they made any use of magic scrolls previously, that might give some clue as to what it might be? Or is it going to be something that comes out of nowhere?

Because it would be pretty cheap if it comes out of nowhere, The guy's supposed to be this edgy pragmatist who knows how grim and gritty it "really" is to fight goblins and uses down-to-earth "realistic" tactics that inexperienced idealists wouldn't think about, so it wouldn't fit very well if he also had a magic scroll that can do whatever fancy magical effect he needs to get out of this situation.

The problem is that Goblin Slayer plays be really fucking stupid double standards.

So, like, everything plays by JRPG rules on the surface. Class systems, magic name attacks, enemy types, armor... all of it screams generic JRPG fantasy setting.

And then the author wants us to take him seriously when he pulls stuff like "Ha ha, look at these named characters not wearing helmets so you can see their face. They are so easy to kill! lol, aren't they dumb for wearing such impractical armor?"

Which is only smart if you are fucking shit tier pleb who takes the 'twist' at face value.

What it REALLY does is create the plot hole in the authors own setting of "if this armor is so fucking impractical and shitty, how is there an entire manufacturing economy that mass produces this stuff such that all these adventurers keep getting their hands on it? And how has no one figured out that heads are a vulnerable part of the body before now if all of the enemies do nothing but cheap shot the skull?"

Its like the entire world used to operate by different rules and, as soon as the story starts, suddenly all of the tropes stopped working and everything became gritty and realistic, and none of the characters have learned the new rules yet because last week this wasn't how the world worked.

It just the most garbage, bottom tier of power fantasy: the MC is stronk not because he is anything special, but because the entire rest of the world has been written to be inexplicably and illogically inept.

It's okay, it was mentioned in one previous chapter that he got this "I win"-scroll.

I could just be something like Reflect. Simple anti-mage stuff, especially in JRPGs. If the goblin is casting fire it might even impede it's regenerating abilities.

Yeah, but Goblin Slayer isn't any kind of magic class.

I too am betting that its a Reflect spell of some kind, but the thing is this shouldn't be NEW. Any scroll that GS can use should be something that literally anyone else can use too.

If I was a martial in a setting full of bullshit casters, a scroll of reflect would be wrapped around my scabbard at all times for each of access. Because why wouldn't I? Its like playing Overwatch: Genji beats Bastion with his own bullets. The counter is so hard, so easy, and so reliably effective its almost unfair.

For what it's worth, it was mentioned before he saved quite a lot to purchase it and even showed enough humility to ask Sorceress for help in how to use it - iirc, he was saving it for the "hero" goblins, the goblin lords and goblin champions, that are each strong enough to give even powerful adventurers like him trouble.

As for what it does, I won't say, but keep in mind what he purchased it for in the first place.

Him showing that humility was actually the most crucial part of that scene, not the scroll. That will matter much sooner in the story than scrolls do.

Yep, basically everyone is retarded except him. The whole world seems to be build around showing us how cool GS is, despite him supposedly being a mediocre hero.

Scrolls are extremely expensive and one-use only. You don't just "tie it to your scabbard."

>Any scroll that GS can use should be something that literally anyone else can use too.
Probably not. GS needed help from Sorceress to learn how to use it. Also, pic related does not give me the impression that everyone just happens to have easy access to them.

...

but seriously

why isn't there more rape? how am i meant to fap to this shit

I disagree with your razor sharp analysis. Every race but humans fully appreciates the threat of goblins in the setting - there is a reason they each sent out a representative to find an expert on goblin extermination, and each of them have a special name for this one man who has the tenacity and resolve to learn so much about the menace. More importantly, this isn't a case of "only he knows about goblins," either. The scenes with Sorceress shows that she and other high level adventurers understand the threat, but - like Archer - they are concerned with the greater threats more appropriate for their power, like the demons. An unchecked goblin infestation might destroy a village after a couple of weeks, but an unchecked demon will destroy several towns or a major city in the same time. It is only the inexperienced recruits with the human "common knowledge" and guild propaganda that underestimates goblins. The guild representative even told the first-chapter scrubs to wait for a stronger, higher-ranked party member to hunt the goblins, only for them to ignore her and die.

Lastly, your entire post and example applies only to the total newbie party and not anyone else in the setting. In fact, the helmet thing was only used as a gag in the campfire scene, not an example of his badassery. The MC isn't "stronk" either. He's an expert at killing goblins and goblins only. This chapter is the first the readers see what the rest of the people his rank are facing daily, and he got thrashed instantly. Archer's comment about his shitty sword (and literally so, as it is a weapon he took from a goblin, like always) comes into play as he cannot do a thing with it against a low tier demon like an ogre.

There isn't a single "named" character (Sorceress, Lancer, Archer, Shaman, Priest, Priestess, Representative, etc.) that fits your view of the story.

Keep in mind the other important part of the whole "only he takes goblins seriously" plot. It's not that he's the only one that can defeat weak enemies like goblins, it's that he's the only person who is dedicated to completely exterminating them, not stopping at any point until they are completely eradicated.

Most parties would be capable of fighting off goblins, and that's probably what most quests are, something like "goblins attacked, please fight them off" and then the party will go out and kill or fight off enough of the goblins that it seems safe. Goblins Slayer doesn't just fight them off or complete the terms of the quest. He hunts down every last one, he goes into the next and kills everything.

The whole "not taken seriously" part of goblins isn't just that they're surprisingly dangerous if you're taken by surprise, it's that most adventurers don't really bother going all the way. They just end the present danger and ignore that unless you exterminate every last goblin involved then they'll just be back in a little while, and you'll have ultimately done very little good.

The whole point of him being ultra serious about tactics and equipment isn't that "anyone not wearing a helmet is dead" it's that even if there's a .001% chance of it being disadvantageous, then the true danger of goblins (sheer numbers and bad luck) can come into play.

Most people probably don't need helmets because with stronger monsters, it wouldn't make a difference.

>"DURR DID YOU KNOW THAT A LONGSWORD IS A BAD IDEA IN CLOSE QUARTERS, HURR"

Have people really never heard of half swording? Or just fucking stabbing?

The only heroes above his level are magical, and Ms. Hero who is literally a Mary Sue who could probably just let an Orge wail on her till it dies of exhaustion.

I should preface above his level. I mean the ones we see in the story.
There are other martial classes of bullshit levels, but we don't really see them. Only Ms. Hero who can fight naked.

Those girls were too cute to die ;_;

Read through it just now. Kind of liked it, though I did go in knowing how single minded he is.

Goblin Slayer is great.

This. Veeky Forums is pretty damn snobbish about this manga and I don't get why. No, its not high literature and yes there are much better fantasy stories in the Manga medium, but its a neat entry and its not nearly as edgy as people pretend it is just because it has a couple of pretty fucking low-level rape scenes that aren't even in the majority of chapters.

Given the current state of fantasy fiction in Japan, Goblin Slayer is a fucking desperately needed breath of fresh air in terms of how much it tones down the protagonists power wank and the not-strictly necessary rape. They're as expected as porn scenes are in Visual Novels these days, you probably can't get published without them, and it uses them relatively sparingly so they still have some impact, which already puts it head and shoulders above most current stuff. It also at least has me moderately interested in the Priestess character by setting up that a big part of the story is going to be her evolution into a pragmatist via GS's mentorship, and how much of herself she's going to be able to keep in that process. One worthwhile hook is more than most of the trash we see in this genre nowadays.

IMO the worst real complaint you can level as GS is that under the trappings of "maturity," its an entry level work. There's nothing wrong with entry level, plebs gotta start somewhere.

Why do people get so worked up about this manga? If you don't find it fun to read, then wouldn't it be better to spend the time reading something you do enjoy.

Seeing all the different ways that Goblin Slayer kills gobs is fun. I hope we get back to that soon.

The LN is far superior than the manga.
The translated one that is.
It explain a lots of world-building details that the manga can't do.

According to /a/ Goblin Slayers setting is literally a tabletop RPG played between the two gods of the setting. Reality is the GM. Fantasy is the player. Her PC is the priestess and other more important people in the setting. Whenever the gods roll they influence the actions of mortals and the events of the world. So, there's still place for free will.

The plotline of their game is not really concerned with Goblin Slayer and his life. In fact, he's not the main character. He is an NPC.

An NPC with ridiculously specualized anti goblin stats. This means that Goblins DO NOT GET TO ROLL AGAINST HIM.

That's where the line "he doesn't let anyone roll the dice" from the first chapter comes from.

His actions already interfered with the GMs plans once because of this ridiculous property. So he ignores him as much as possible.

So the story will be about these big world changing events in the background that Goblin Slayer is not involved in because no Goblins and because he's not the MC of the game. Meanwhile, the story instead focuses on Goblin Slayer and his party trying to heal his mental damage.

Also the author straight up says he's a traditional gamer.

>Those girls were too cute to die ;_;
Almost, but Goblin Slayer's seems to be a world where it only takes one mistake (like not wearing a helmet) to catch a really, really bad case of dead.

Like Rolemaster or GURPS level of deadly play.

It's a big case of "waaaa, stop liking what I don't like! >;("

GS tsundere for the priestess when?

>It's a big case of "waaaa, stop liking what I don't like! >;("
Aggravated by shits like you going "waaaa, stop disliking what I like! >;("

>Why do people get so worked up about this manga?
This is what you get for really obnoxious fans.

Read the LN. The manga is good, but the LN goes into detail a lot more and explains things better.

Theres more about how people see goblins as a non-threat and underprepare ("please start with rats in the sewer! Goblins? No you really arent ready- oh..okay..."), better insight into characters' motivations, and while Im sure people want to see cute girls get raped, just how its handled in the LN I think did better. Its more about letting you know bad shit is happening without saying what, rather than outright saying "this girl is getting railed by green dick".

And of course theres the world building that is damnnear completely skipped by the manga.

Manga is fine.
LN is great.

Combine them in your head for a solid experience.

>WAAAAAAAAAH!!

Thanks for the storytime, OP.

>No U

If monsters like goblins existed, and were considered as weak and smart as children, while greater threats like dragons existed, mistakes would most likely be made when encountering them and in such situations, 1 mistake will cost you.

The LN hammers it home. Yes, something with the intelligence and strength of a child isnt a threat. Surely a kid isnt anything to worry about. But what if theres 10 of them, and they all have dangerous weapons and have surrounded you in a cramped passage, and these kids are pure evil and full of murderous aggression?

Unless youre very well trained or prepared, the 10 crazy killer children will kill you. Even if you manage to kill some of them in the process, you will lose.

>small spiteful little shit can kill you easily if you are unaware or underestimating them.
Chuck the killer doll series of movies really hammer that point home.

There was a movie about this, where an island resort happened where all the children became psychopaths. The adults all died because they underestimated what 40 psychopathic children who cooperated could manage.

Even at the end of the movie, the surviving adult was shot by the 'rescue group' because he was about to kill the child who had killed his pregnant wife not five minutes before.

Haha, stupid faggot. I never said they couldn't dislike it. Just that their autistic shriekings weren't appreciated :)

Is the LN translated yet? I can only find a blog called sinistertranslations

Its currently available in english at many bookstores.

Bought mine at booksamillion and saw a copy at barnes and nobles in the mall.

The issue I have with it is that goblins really don't seem like an issue but have huge writers fait

>And of course theres the world building that is damnnear completely skipped by the manga.
That would probably solve my main problem with this manga. Things like the demon army are so far away, they might even be a lie for the army not doing shit.

board pshychologist tell me why do I pop a stiffy to hard rape doujins but story related rape gets me sad?

The entire series is heavily based on DnD mechanics. Scrolls can contain any spell and those spells are as varied as in DnD. Obviously scrolls containing powerful spells are very expensive, this particular scroll was made for Goblin Slayer by a powerful mage and is stated to contain a powerful spell.

So while they've never been used before in the series the existence of them has been established as has how they are made and how the character happens to possess this particular scroll.

> asking Veeky Forums for anything medical

>they burned the wizard, used ranger as arrow practice, shoved intestines in their healer's mouth to keep her from biting her tongue off, and made warrior watch as she begged them to use her instead (honorable knight who can't stand the thought of her friends suffering). They finally raped her for days and threw the broken body into the river

I'm starting to like these little buggers.

I know its for views and all but goblin needing humans to breed is damn stupid, and the fact they dong get any traits from mother is even more stupid.
I get that japs love rapy stuf, but at least little bit of sence woudnt hurt.

In a world with monsters and shit one race that steal your breeders and make more monster out of them woudnt be considered pest it would be major extermination target.

>Oh no, someone didn't fall for my strawman tears!
>I'd better cry more of them! That's SURE to make them stop not liking thing!

What are you on about? GS is a silver ranked adventurer. That puts him in the top 10% of adventurers in the world despite him specifically targeting gobbos.

He was also part of a party that killed a Demon Lord as well frequently kills Goblin heroes who are on par with human heroes.

He's not a chump. He just gets paid next to nothing because goblins aren't seen as a major threat by upper echelons of the world despite being the bulk of the threat.

If every goblin base had a shaman or Hobgobby then they'd be be praising the fuck out of him since those are above most rank and file adventurers.

It's basically a case of being an exterminator.

Someone who kills wild boars and cougars gets paid more because the threat to a person is more impressive.

Someone who wipes out hives of rats next to a farm is less impressive.

The rats are more likely to ruin their local vicinity and expand faster than the other 2 and are capable of killing humans just as much as the others if they are unprepared but due to the ease of killing them when prepared they aren't worth as much.

That's the logic Goblin Slayer works on.

Goblins are weak as shit but are underestimated. This means most people overlook the work because it barely pays the costs.

Goblin Slayer is just ultra autistic about his targets.

Oh, it only has a "couple of rapes" huh, that's not edgy at all! And they're only "low-level" rapes? Well, then I guess it's practically child friendly!

Pfft, god, it's always amusing how affronted fans of mediocre trash get when you call it what it is. And their delusional attempts at defending it are just so cute.

The mage didn't make the scroll. They outright state that magical scrolls are precursor levels of shit and the spells are forgotten.

Chances are that the scroll is just a spell she had to identify for him so he knew what he had.

Man, sounds like that screenwriter/director has some really deep resentment towards his kids.

I still hold that exterminators and garbage men do far, far more for public health than any other professions

That's why those are actually well paying jobs.

It way more amusing to watch neets hate somthing someone enjoy with such passion yet scream at the top of their lungs how they dont care.
Your bitching dont make any diffrence, I still will read that cuz I think its somehow newish take on whole adventure theme.
C`mon entertain me more, I brought snacks.

>I can't tell fantasy from reality
Here's your red dots.

Can someone link me to the rape scenes specifically? I'm curious to what 'low level rape' would be.
