Sorry i took so long making this, i was having trouble coming up with a edition name.
Nolan Sanders
nigger it was supposed to be a carrie fisher tribute
John Bennett
>Tribute to rebel scum kys
Luis Williams
I dunno about this rebel business, user. Sure, she's Alderaanian, but she's a Princess, too.
Christian Lewis
Haven't we tributed enough? Two+ threads of basically non-stop: "Ur the true princess Carrie may the force be with you Ms. Fisher damn you 2016" is sufficient.
Adam Cox
She was a traitor and part of the rebel alliance!
Alexander Bailey
Reminder that Alderaan shot first
Brody Sullivan
I vote we delete this and make a proper tribute to Carrie.
Justin Moore
Reminder that Force Weilders and Force Sensitives are the architects of all suffering and war in the Galaxy. True Order and unity can only be achieved by their destruction.
Eli Hall
And perhaps we should use this great Yoda quote. "Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not."
Lucas Garcia
>Just throw X% of your children in a blender
I don't think we can sell it boss.
Sebastian Johnson
Rpg question, can a character with the Hoverer trait use it to climb vertical surfaces? My group is arguing whether you need to stay close to the ground if you use repulsorlift or just need a nearby surface as some kind of "anchor"?
Besides, early attempt at derailing the thread with morality, sorry: Star Wars is written by people that haven't got contact with anyone in the military, even with a ten-foot pole. The most important things for militaries is obedience, yet it seems that ~75% of the alliance is made of former imperial personel.
It's not about brainwashing, it's about following orders. Most of the time you don't need to brainwash someone to make him commit atrocities. Real history is full of this kind of thing, even in an environment that's pretty adverse to it, like mediatized modern conflicts where militaries try to be as ethic as possible. Remember Abu Graib? Yet I'm sure those people were upstanding citizen that had a lot of lessons on morality. You don't have to use biochips, hypnoconditioning or all that magic stuff, because people are, for the most part, awful when they're not actively guided toward good.
On a sidenote, Finn realizing "wait, something is wrong here" when one of his teammates died in his arms and killing his former (and equally innocent since they're brainwashed) comrades a fewx scenes later was handled poorly in my opinion. A handful of people switching sides it perfectly legit, but if you have someone that shows trauma at the first sign of combat, don't make him into a gung-ho warrior in the second part of the movie. Not to mention that the villagers began firing at the troop transport and were therefore not really innocent.
tl;dr: Star Wars has a Carebears view on morality and ignores what makes an army an army.
Cameron Taylor
Introducing Soylent Kyber! The miracle food that's ending hunger from the Deep Core to the Outer Rim! Now hiring Force sensitives! Apply at your local commissary!
Leo Rodriguez
I didn't say they handled that part of it well, i said your flaw was the brainwashing thing. Personally, I choose to believe he had no problem killing those he saw as evil, former comrades or not. I've heard the novelization handled it much better though.
Logan Russell
Pretty much every time this comes up (it comes up a lot, much for the same reasons you outline) the de facto, cheap out answer is to say that "the force guides good people to do good things".
"Good things" here meaning switching sides from the people that you've grown up alongside to the "because we say so" good guys.
Star Wars, like many modern sci-fi settings, suffers from what I call "the Helghast Problem"; where the "bad guys" receive much greater characterisation and so we end up empathising with them as much as, if not more than, the good guys.
Austin Thompson
So, if I remember Black Fleet Crisis correctly one of the worlds the Yeventha attacked was still technically an imperial world. Given the fact that the Yeventha seem to have been created by the author mashing WW2 Imperial Japan together with every bad thing muslims and jews have said about each other would Pellaeon resort to a BDZ if he had the resources to get a fleet over there? Or just sending them back to the Stone age with turbolaser strikes on major industry and wide-range ion and EMP bombardment of the rest?
>Star Wars, like many modern sci-fi settings, suffers from what I call "the Helghast Problem"; where the "bad guys" receive much greater characterisation and so we end up empathising with them as much as, if not more than, the good guys. Maybe in SOME material, but not most of it.
Leo Ward
>Maybe in SOME material, but not most of it.
In Episode IV and V, we spend a lot of time seeing Vader or high-ranking imperials ; everyone of them with their distinctive features (Vader, sure, but Tarkin the unbendable, Motti the overconfident, Ozzel the incompetent, Veers the backstabber, etc) ; when we spend a lot less time on the rebels except of Han, Luke and Leia. The only other high-ranking rebel with a personality is Lando Calrissian, in the movies. What kind of personality does Mon Mothma has ? Even in Rogue One she doesn't seem to have one.
Of course the Legends are way more diverse and allow way more characterisation ; but for the 3 original episodes, the Empire receive way more characterisation, I agree with him.
Even in the third, the slippery slope that Anakin take can make us empathise with the one who will obliterate the Jedis from existence
Adam Thompson
so just ran the module from strongholds of rebellion involving the tie phantoms. ended up running it more combat heavy than suspense but all in all went well, there is just one problem though its not really a problem.
one of my players captured a tie phantom.
his logic and plan were good, all the rolls during the capture were daunting difficulty, there was a contested roll for the tie pilot to attempt to kamikaze. and now hes got the phantom.
I have no problem beefing up enemy numbers to counter player competence, or enemy sensors to counter cloaking in this case. only thing im worried about is player survivablity with this, as the phantom has low HT even with a house rule in play for increasing ship HT.
Also i bought Forged in battle and havent seen a PDF online so.. whats a good way to scan it without bending the pages in the scan or tearing the pages out?
Gavin Long
>Vader Yes. >Tarkin Yes. >Motti Who? >Ozzel The moustache guy who dies within two scenes? >Veers The AT-AT driver with about six lines? Also, when did he backstab someone? During his routine report on their status to Vader, or was that someone else? I'm genuinely not sure because all the Imp officers are incredibly samey.
Agree that the Alliance suffered from poor characterisation, but it's a stretch to say that the Imps got it better.
Jack Taylor
Let's just make the next one a tribute to all the members of the SW family we lost this year.
Julian Hall
>Or just sending them back to the Stone age with turbolaser strikes on major industry and wide-range ion and EMP bombardment of the rest? Wasn't that what was actually done in thr books?
Juan Bailey
>Motto Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe Motto is the sorcerer's ways dude that gets choked, but is worried that the rebels could harm the death star while everybody laughs at him.
Caleb Ross
I seem to remember the New Republic emoving their most advanced spaceworthy tech, but not a full stone-age "You don't even get modern medicine"
Zachary Thomas
Even with 6 lines, Veers showed that the Army and the Navy could throw each other under the passing bus.
And, well, Ozzel have been characterized has an incompetent, and someone who was angry at their subordinates for doing their job (Piett).
Rieekan haven't been characterized at all ; Even some stormtroopers had more lines than him ! Ackbar just said "It's a trap !", and the other rebels serves as canon fodder to up the stakes.
Looking at the Aftermath it seems that the Yeventha were placed under interdiction but eventually left to their own devices till they rebuilt a fleet and the Vong stomped them (Because the Del Rey editorial staff can't have any of the Bantam Bad Guys outshine their Dark-Eldar-Tyranid sues)
Xavier Anderson
I've seen on a thread a long time ago that you can take high-res photo of books, with one face on the floor and the other on the wall. Don't know if it's the best one though.
I'm seeking for a pdf of Friends Like These, if any of you know where to find it, please
David Gonzalez
just so happens im reading that currently to run in a few hours.
I'd be happy to scan them but i dont want to damage the books
Joseph Fisher
Too bad, I can't help you further...
Good luck with your campaign though
Ayden Peterson
Are they attempting to use the craft in the course of the adventure? If so, have the Imperial pilot have sabotaged something, rendering the ship inoperable in the short term.
Long term, Rebel HQ grabs the thing to be stripped down and researched, medals for everyone! Big Duty payout also.
Liam Gutierrez
uuuuh >Imps would definitely have a tracker/hidden self destruct on that thing >there's no fucking way a random pilot gets to keep high tech experimental imperial technology, it'll be evacauated to r&d pronto >While the rebels race to recover and evacuate the ship, the Nebulon B frigate the ships are supposed to return to are going to wonder where the fuck they are and track them down >if you are an evil/realistic gm and they can activate a tracker, they now know where the rebel base is >and they want their scalps Expect every available imperial resource in a secter wide area swarming the area. You think anyone is going to be remember as the fuckup that gave the rebels working stealth technology?
If the players survive, they are up for a promotion though.
Michael Russell
oh the craft is very disabled right now, but the module is pretty much over. The polis massa base is ill equipped for studying it, and need to GTFO as one phantom survived to tell of rebel presence in the asteroid field. so what will probably happen is the base gets evacuated and after a harrowing escape things get eventually transported elsewhere. and technicians study it.
could use a tracker, but Id give a Daunting to Formidable mechanics check to find and disable it after it goes off. iv already made it very hard to get, and i cant think of anything more lame then just auto-killing it after multiple very difficult rolls in order to get it.
Samuel Carter
They'd ship any hardware like that in a Jamming cage, no way a tracking signal would get out.
Aiden Hall
don't forget the module states that the nebulon b will automatically investigate. Would be pretty amusing if the nebulon b shows up just as the recovery crew is beginning to tow back the ship. Nice little escort mission there.
Nolan Murphy
Thinking of making a Jess Pava swarm list. Anyone else try this? Thoughts?
Blake Reyes
After watching Rogue One, I'm kind of in the mood for something Star Warsy, but the setting is so dense and confusing and I don't know any of it.
The Ring of Kafrene and Jedha scenes really gave me inspiration ideas. Smugglers who get caught up in the Rebellion or something, Playing out that terrorist attack in Jedha would be great.
The main problem with the Finn panicking thing is that no one in Star Wars ever feels bad about murder, except that one time Rey looked shocked but then didn't care anymore. Finn also mostly switched sides because he didn't want to be part of the Empire. He also didn't want to be a part of the Rebellion, until he needed to rescue Rey.
Isaac Howard
Most people who work on star wars don't know a great deal about it, it shouln't prevent you from having some fun either. Pick something you are inspired by, maybe mix with something from history and set it on GENERIC HIVEISTAN IV or WARTORNLANDISTAN V and go wild. Even reenacting scenes from a movie would be a decent and fun exercise, for a oneshot or the like.
Jose Nguyen
I ran her with Biggs, Tarn, and a rookiee to good effect. Lots of rerolls is nice for making your attacks stick.
Dominic Ross
I just feel like it'd be pretty lame to not use the Star Wars setting. But I'm all antsy about using a setting "wrong". It's why in modern day games I make up cities. I don't want my LA to feel like it was shot in Vancouver.
Owen Murphy
So apparently the NuCanon Essential Atlas is out already in the UK. Does anyone know if the bongs have a scan out yet?
Jaxon Bailey
Well, Star Wars is *full* of out of the way backwater planets with no official name and places that are only sort of briefly touched upon. It's a large enough setting that you can make your own shit up and still fit in nicely.
Jackson Green
It's also basically just a modern fairy tale so I've always felt people can put whatever individual spin they want on it. Legends, Canon, shit you make up on the fly- just have fun with it and blow some shit up with lasers and/or space magic.
Kayden Rogers
Debbie Reynolds, who died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, was only thinking about daughter Carrie Fisher in her final moments.
The Singin’ in the Rain icon told her son, Todd Fisher, hours before her stroke: “I miss her so much, I want to be with Carrie”
Hug your parents if they're still around /swg/. Hug your kids if you have them.
Hell, hug a Wookiee if he'll let you.
Jacob Scott
can you pls explain to me why EoTE is better than SAGA?
Dominic Green
It's not d20.
James Gonzalez
whats' the differences between Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny and Edge of the Empire?
Jeremiah Kelly
The funny dice that turn so many people off fuel a resolution mechanic that feels very and it's such a buzzword I almost hate to say it cinematic.
Every time dice fall it drives twists and turns and often has consequence beyond the immediate after GMing my 1st campaign over the last semester I'm a little in love with it.
Caleb Williams
I've played both, though I haven't done a lengthy campaign of either so grain of salt with this review:
Saga's a bit clunky in my experience. IIRC, it's one of those D20 systems where wearing armor if you don't have the right feat combo actually makes you *easier* to kill. (Which, I suppose could make sense in-universe: Storm Troopers are all nubs who haven't specced up to the point where their gear is useful.) It seemed very niche/class oriented in a way that doesn't flow well with the slap-dash adventure feel of Star Wars. Luke, Leia and Han are all different character classes, but they should all be able to jump on a speeder bike to do a crazy chase sequence. In SAGA, if you're not well specc'd for that you can expect to crash.
EoTE has a rather clever system using the proprietary dice that encourages you to come up with dynamic action sequences, and the game doesn't seem to slot people too hard into one niche over the other. The Pilot can still be a good shot, the Mechanic can try their hand and talking their way out of situations with a decent chance of success, etc. It also scales in vehicle combat pretty decently, though I've heard Fighter vs Fighter can be way too lethal, so you're better off with everyone being in a Millenium Falcon knock-off. Also, it was very easy to GM in my experience. I think it struck a nice balance of mechanically complex enough that the players have fun picking their options, while the GM can run multiple groups of baddies without worrying too much if they're all getting their situational bonuses.
Basically, I think EoTE is the better game, but SAGA has the advantages and weaknesses inherent in D20, and has a ton of EU material already statted for it. Want to run Dark Empire/Clone Wars/Knights of the Old Republic? SAGA's already got it all set up for you, but the FFG systems will require some finagling.
Brandon Perez
>whats' the differences between Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny and Edge of the Empire?
Elijah Ross
AoR - centered around rebel strike squads FaD - centered around force-user characters EotE - centered around scum, villany and general outer-rim folks
all three are compatible with each other
Oliver Smith
It should be noted, compatible and balanced. So long as everyone is at the same XP threshold, there is parity in regards to the cool shit they can do.
Luis Rogers
ty, so can i play between ep III and IV and playing every spec. and races?
David Gonzalez
I DM'd a campaing during the Jedi Purge after the initial Order 66, although the campaing went ballistic during its three years course it was a fun ride
David Bennett
It's supposed to be played between the 3rd and the 6th movies ; the descriptions of the empire, of the jedi hunt...
Of course it's not mandatory. I'm DMing a campaign where they are Imperial Knights in the SW Legacy Era and with a little tweak it's working wonders
Gavin Williams
Sounds interesting, thanks!
Jonathan Nguyen
I ran a Republic Intelligence game set in the dying months of III.
Ryan Martin
That sounds like exactly the type of game I want to run. what/how did you do it user?
Ryder Fisher
Alright fellow armadafags, I've tweaked my Imp list a bit since the last thread I posted it in. Any thoughts?
1 Major Rhymer ( 16 points) 1 TIE Advanced Squadron ( 12 points) 2 Firespray-31s ( 36 points) 1 IG-88 ( 21 points) 1 TIE Interceptor Squadron ( 11 points) 2 TIE Fighter Squadrons ( 16 points)
Joshua Powell
Half the party were Clones and they did they heavy combat lifting. "Archimedes": Medic,, know it all "Ray": Heavy, loves his repeater And one who's exact tiel I've forgotten: Scout spec from Forged in Battle, doesn't speak too much on account of being played a Frenchman spending his 1st year in Scotland One protocol droid with stripped-out programming provided comic relief and shit down the throat of any computers checks that were required. Former mercenary-now-intelligence liaison was the face and sort of the leader (though officially only his NPC handler was in overall command of the team.) Lastly they had one force sensitive who was actually one of Sheevy P's plants in Intelligence to keep hi8m informed.
Generally they were dropped into a situation given endpoints and from there had the freedom to reach those objectives as they pleased.
Jack Young
That is interesting.
I want to do a similiar thing where the campaign starts as the New Order gets announced and the PC's are running to to commandeer some assets, including a blockade runner, which they'll use to begin recruitment and ops for The Rebellion.
Jayden Price
Can we have a story time, pretty please?
William James
Maybe, I'm writing some epilogue for them right now actually so I'll get back to you in a bit.
Lincoln Russell
I want criticism on this custom card. This is based on the Jedi my wife played in FnD who was adept at Battle Meditation. She is meant to sync with her apprentice (played by my sister) who has the crew ability "Once per round, when you destroy an enemy ship, you may immediately perform another primary weapon attack against another ship."
Does any wording or point cost need adjustment?
Dylan Ward
Just for reference.
Caleb Perez
Motti, but yes. That's him.
Jordan Ross
Yes, the foolishness of phoneposting and it's autocorrect function struck me again I'm afraid.
Samuel Mitchell
Anyone else?
Alexander Williams
You're confusing two guys as being one guy. Admiral Conan Antonio Motti considers the Death Star the ultimate power in the universe and suggests they use it before getting choked by Vader. General Cassio Tagge cautions that, with a complete technical readout of the battlestation, the Rebels could find a weakness and exploit it. And based on that, in the new continuity, he isn't on the Death Star when it blows and is promoted to Grand General for his foresight. He even is Vader's supervisor in Vader's comic series. He has graphs *and* the command.
Jose Sanders
Interesting take on the Assault Frigate mk1, already starting to look like a Mk2 with almost no resemblance to the Dreadnought.
Jordan Rogers
Is that a Greedo in a wig?
I know, it's just that I want to use the aliens and events and shit, but at the same time there's just so much of it. I actually played a Saga game ages back and I spent half the time on Wookieepedia filling out backstory on the fly. That's just a little harder for me if I were running it, and getting my players to know what was up. I already have enough trouble getting them to know the setting for stuff like Chronicles of Darkness.
Is that what most of the thread does? Basically plays generic space opera fantasy that sometimes has something cool if you remember it? I've always just sort of assumed the games were for people who are SUPER into it. Then again, I guess if you like the game you'll start looking for scans of the Atlas and reading Wookieepedia for new ideas. I just in general need to not worry about these things, it's not like any of my players will ever have been to New York or Vancouver or Gotham City or Coruscant outside of video games and movies
Thomas Scott
This
This is also the reason I hate those "WHY WASN'T X IN THE OT???? STUPID (EU/NUCANON/PREQUELS)" people
Adam Johnson
If we stop mourning her before the end of 2016, another celeb will die.
What if it was an actually beloved character like Vader?
Jaxson Taylor
We'll, he HAD them anyway.
Carson Barnes
Some Rodians have hair, this one included. Does the card need any alterations or not?
Parker Campbell
Going to bed for now, might storytime tomorrow.
Levi Collins
DELET THIS
Easton Phillips
Can anyone summarize how strain and wound are calculated? Also, defense and soak are pretty much AC and damage absorption yeah?
Cameron Lopez
I didn't wanna feel this early in the evening ;_;
Brayden Cruz
Your strain threshold is equal to your x + your willpower, where x is an amount determined by your character's species. You can further increase your strain threshold with talents.
Similarly, your wound threshold is equal to y + your brawn, where y is an amount determined by your character's species. And similarly, you can further increase your wound threshold with talents.
You're right about soak being damage absorption, but defense isn't really analogous to anything in D&D. It's sort of like AC, because it can turn a hit into a miss, but it also can turn a crit into a regular hit.
Ayden Anderson
So... I'm looking to give my players a ship that will be able to hold all five of them in our brand new FFG campaign. I'm going for a Bucket of Bolts style, something that is decent but not overkill for new players. They want something fast and stealthy, but I'll take whatever I can get.
Where should I start looking in terms of ship stats?
Also post your floating pieces of scrap metal that you wouldn't trade for the world.
Colton Myers
AoR: star war rebel the RPG FaD: space wizards party EotE: Star Wars + Firefly
Brayden Wright
So I was opening up the OT x wing core set, and as I was putting the ships on their stands, an error in the plastic molding that the post goes into on the X-wing not only made it impossible to put the ship on the base and pegs, but broke off a third of the female end under the ship. There was enough coverage for me to glue the ship to the peg, but is there anything else I could do?
Lincoln Mitchell
A popular modification near me is to take off the peg from the bottom of the ship and replace it with a magnet and put a little ball magnet on the post. No more need to wiggle the pegs out of the slots and risk snapping them and you can tilt them around the ball so the ships don't collide in formations or during bumps.
Colton Reyes
Soak works just like damage absorption, but it's a little incogrious to compare combat in this game to any d20 system. It works exactly like the other skill checks, except the opposition dice pool is a combination of range difficulty, gear and various abilities. There is no static number you need to beat.
Thomas Turner
So I am looking at running a game of with the group made up of youngling/new padawans during order 66. I was going to give them a clone wars era corvette/transport that is run down like the errant venture but smaller. my question Veeky Forums is what rules set would be the best to run it in as they should only have limited force powers.
what about drilling it with a pin vice and pinning it?
Cameron Butler
I typically remove the post from the base, rather than the ship from the post. I'm confident that the glue will hold for a while (since I live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, Pennsylvania, I can't ever find anyone to game with). Once the ship is loose again, how easily is the clear connector removed from the X-wing model? Can the peg fit inside of it correctly? I know it does on the hounds tooth, but that one is still connected to the pegs and base and just slides in the ship
They want fast and stealthy = give them something slow and broken, the rest is an adventure!
David Fisher
Use the CEC light/exploration freighter YG-4210. It's a great, Star Wars design, can hold that many, and could be upgraded to be fast or stealthy.
Isaiah Diaz
For all you x wing fags, how much have you dropped on x wing?
Leo Harris
More than I should have, not nearly as much as I will.
Matthew Rivera
roughly $1400. Running a HotAC campaign really makes things add up
Joshua Howard
why does nobody ever talk about WEG SWd6
Jonathan Foster
A common recommendation around here is to use WEG sourcebooks with the modern FFG rules because the WEG books are so good.
Its an old system though, and its actual mechanics don't get discussed much aside from being better than d20
Sebastian Jones
Because it's good but outdated. Everything it can do can be done by the FFG system; with more and better consistency to boot.
It's not bad, but it's not the king any more. It was my favorite system for a very long time, and then it turns out that the FFG system is just better.
Though it still produced a lot of great lore, and using it as a reference is something that will never go out of style.
Joshua Butler
because it's probably been out of print for longer than some people have been playing games.
Henry Carter
I mean, for one thing it's been out of print for probably longer then some people here have been alive, and for another, FFG's pretty well taken over the types of campaigns it was meant and typically used for.
Jordan Sanders
Where at in bumfuck PA? Tournament Jan. 8 at owl central in Reading
Daniel Garcia
Are you sure its not just the perspective. It looks like a normal Assault Frigate MK1 to me.
Elijah Cooper
