We all know Settlers of Catan is the greatest board game of all time, but what are the top five board games of all time?

> We all know Settlers of Catan is the greatest board game of all time
Nice assumption you got there in your leading question.

Fuck catan
All it has going for it is ma trading.

>not Diplomacy

Hold the fuck up you inbred

>games about jewing
>greatest

Hey. Fags. This is a troll thread. Are you all really this goddamn easy to bait?

for me, it goes something like this:
> 1) Axis and Allies ( any edition )
> 2) Settlers
> 3) that Game of Thrones strategy boardgame
> 4) Spartacus Gladiator Boardgame
> 5) the friendship enders ( Diplomacy, Risk, Monopoly ) for Nostalgia Reasons
Honorary Mention for being non-boardgame:
> x) Poker

My list includes games that are beefy enough to enjoy some strategy when winning but also fun enough that even when you are losing you can still have a good time.
>1. Eclipse
>2. Caverna
>3. Alchemists
>4. Pillars of the Earth
>5. Ascension

My experience with Catan left me with the impression that it is *better* than Monopoly, but not by that much; and it functionally makes most of the same mistakes and goes for about as long.

If I think of stuff that is tested and proven, and I think holds up perfectly fine in comparison even when 2017 rolls in, a top 10:

Age of Steam / Steam
Agricola
Caylus
Dominion
El Grande
Mage Knight
Puerto Rico
Space Alert
Tigris & Euphrates
Twilight Struggle

Ignoring classic abstracts like chess and go.

This is Veeky Forums, of course they're easy to bait.

Talisman is pretty great
Especialy when you add all the expansion areas
Got a good eletronic version to (not as good as the real thing of course though)

In the board game general, this opinion causes more salt than any discussion of Catan ever could.

I look forward to seeing where this goes.

they're all classic abstracts like chess and go

While likely sarcastic, this is legitimately my pick.

It's the one game I can get anyone off the street no matter their board game experience, sit down to play, and have them fully immersed in two turns.

Monopoly
Monopoly
Monopoly
Monopoly
Monopoly

Everyone knows the classics are best
Monopoly
Scrabble
Boggle
Jenga
Snakes & Ladders

I'm so glad I don't go to your house for boardgame night.

>what a snooze fest.

>Thinks strategy games are boring

Underdeveloped brain detected

No they are just shit examples.

>Power Grid
>Cosmic Encounter
>Mysterium
>Starcraft: The Board Game
>Xcom

...

Runebound
Battle Lore
Squad Leader
Monsters Ravage America
Original Dungeons and Dragons

The only problem with this list is that some will eventually make a good computer version of Mage Knight, and then it will be a classic turn-based computer game instead of a board game.

I think you gotta give Risk the number 1 spot. There are so many variations of that game and pretty much all of them are great. I would give monopoly number 2 just because of its popularity.

new games like settlers of catan and what not are great games yes, but they have a lot more rules than risk and monopoly and the older generation would be reluctant to dive into them.

I'd legit pay for a decent Mage Knight computer version. VASSAL module is pretty decent one at what it does, but still.

Do you Catan?

This one's definitely in my personal top 5 somewhere.

Why
Its by no means the second coming of boardgames but its decenty fun and most of its flaws are removed once you add a few expansions.

/thread

All other anons are wrong.

1. Secret Hitler
2. Battlestar Galactica the boardgame
3. Diplomacy
4. Game of Thrones strategy Boardgame
5. Twilight Strugle or Squad Leader

Catan
Jenga
Chess
Scrabble
Diplomacy

Str
Dex
Int
Wis
Cha

Hold up.

I actually think this is a much better Eurogame than Catan

>Catan
>Str
I chuckled

That pasta is all the game is good for though
