>What is Exalted? An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them. Start here: theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/
>That sounds cool, how can I get into it? Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial: jyenicolson.net/exalted/. It'll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.
>Gosh that was fun. How do I find a group? Roll20 and the Game Finder General here on Veeky Forums. With the new edition, though, chances are more games will crop up.
Artifact's edition! If you're an ST, what are some cool artifact's you've made for your game? If you're a player, what artifact does your character use?
Liam Torres
I need evocations for a Jade breastplate. I haven't decided on the color yet, but I'm leaning towards green.
Easton Miller
Evocations should be tied to the story of the artifact I believe. So anything you can tell us about that?
Nicholas Ortiz
I killed a slaver and his outcaste bodyguard and took it off his corpse. Beyond that, I haven't thought of anything.
I'm converting a 2e char.
Anthony Wood
Hm... I'm thinking... Jade overall, the raw fury of the elements, readyness and preparedness... Green Jade due to it's association with wood itself is associated with live, nature, thorns, predator-prey relations, cycles and circles, poison and simplicity. Depending on the storyofthe artifact, like said it's evocation tree should encompass things that reflect it's history. Was the armor worn by a brilliant tactician? Make it give you a bonus to camouflage, next charm extends it to the closest soldiers you command. Used by a fanatically devoted monk? Yeah, your armor tries to kill who strike you with poisonous spikes. Extra effective against foul anathema. Can't go wrong with induced anima flux, regeneration-enhancing properties and such.
Colton Bailey
>conquering the Hundred Kingdoms Has anyone played a campaign with that premise? I need some ideas for my own, so anything you could tell me about it would be appreciated.
Angel Williams
It might be hard to really do the Hundred Kingdoms justice. Because it's a LOT of kingdoms and countries and city-states, all with their own history and culture and quirks and supernatural oddities and so on.
Jaxon Ward
I made Sakuya's stopwatch and Komachi's scythe from Touhou
I have no regrets.
Kayden Brown
That's actually part of the premise for a campaign I'm in. We're in Vaneha, trying to usurp the sword prince and re-establish Vaneha by conquering the hundred kingdoms, unifying into one big empire.
Course, we're at Essence 3 and are still trying to deal with Vaneha and the sword prince, so Vaneha might end up being the sole focus,
I suppose what I need is help coming up with a story for a jade breastplate. Though something to do with animals would be favorite, because not having Ride is killing me.
Juan Butler
No having actually played the game yet, I've been thinking about transforming weapons. Based on the Hidden Dagger Axe from the leak, the Ultimately Useful Tube from 2e, the Fusion Sword from Advent Children, and every single weapon from Bloodborne, I've been thinking of weapons that come in multiple forms, such as a Grand Grimcleaver that can be turned into a spear and shield. This would be used to switch between different weapon tags and weight categories on the fly depending on what's the most useful at the time, and also to allow switching between different fighting abilities based on what's needed.
These would probably be all artefact 4.
Dominic Gray
Horse armour?
Or rather an evocation that allows you to share your artifact soak + evocations with your horse?
Kayden White
I don't know what I should spend my XP on. It's a two-person game, a streetwise bounty hunter (not me) and a scholar that has an unhealthy obsession with swords (me). Anything jump out that I need to shore up?
Andrew Jackson
So according to one of the people making it, one of the chargen systems will be released for beta around mid February. Pic related is a sneak peek at the UI.
Aiden Parker
More something that lets me ignore the 'lower of Ride or Ability' rule.
Grayson Reed
There's a db charm in second edition that augments your ride for the purpose of limiting ability. You could have something like that?
"Your ride is considered one dot higher for the purpose of limiting abilities. You may take this charm up to (Essence) time." and maybe reflexive, costs 1m.
Matthew Myers
>almost nothing at 5 You're hosed already.
Jordan Collins
Swap out one dot in STR or STA and put it inside of Dexterity. Consider taking that dodge dot and putting it inside of Melee.
Otherwise it looks fine.
Jeremiah Butler
Does anyone ever use Factory Cathedrals anymore?
Adam Morgan
About fucking time something came up for 3e No offense to the Glorious Solar user who's working on the excel spreadsheets which are great. But they're still excel spreadsheets.
Daniel Morris
He's already taken too many dots as it is. His Attribute spread is 8/7/9, when it should be 8/6/4. Even if he sank literally all of his Bonus Points into Attribute dots, that spread isn't possible. Assuming that he went Mental Primary/Physical Secondary/Social Tertiary, that's 9 Bonus Points buying dots in Social, 8 Bonus Points in Physical, and 4 in Mental, when you've only got 15 Bonus Points to spend.
He's overspent on Merits, as well; you get 10 points to spend on Merits, with each dot past that costing 1 Bonus Point, and he's got 19 points of Merits.
He's also overspent on Abilities, as well. You get 28 points to spend on raising them up to 3 dots, and he's spent 32, plus 3 dots over 3 dots, for a total of 7 bonus points spent on Abilities.
The only part of his character sheet that he hasn't overspent on is his Charms, and considering that he's spend 37 Bonus points, which is more than double the amount you actually have to spend, I think he needs to scrap his current character and start over again, or at the very least significantly pare down on what he's bought.
Samuel Garcia
Godam the stories of the Gods are awesome, that battlesar/Deathstar sun story was fucking lulzy even tho it didn't really fit with the setting.
Parker Jones
I was recently going through the Infernals book and realized that because the Yozis don't wipe memories from Exaltations, it's possible that one or more of them could share memories with the Deathlords. I don't know much about Abyssals - do the Neverborn/Deathlords wipe memories from their Exaltations? If not, and if a Deathlord was ordering around someone with his old Exaltation, things could get pretty funny.
Jonathan Brooks
You can't have a two dot specialty in 3e, unless you're using houserules.
Luke Jones
Yes, the Monstrance of Celestial Portion squeezes out the memories. An Abyssal Exaltation that does not return to it's Monstrance for whatever reason has it's memories burnt away by the sun. Despite this, they're allowed to take up to one dot of the merit at the STs discretion. It's worth noting that Exaltation shards apparently only hold the memories of the most recent incarnation, saving over the previous ones like a computer file. I'm sure you're ST can waiv that or you can say that you're on of the first generation Abyssals.
Source for this is Ink Monkeys Ultimate Collection, side bar on page 51.
Jayden Lee
Thanks mang, you went above and beyond.
Justin Rivera
What's the EX for in the abilities, next to C/F boxes?
Brandon Torres
How can one fuck up so hard anyway?
Alexander Brooks
Excellency, I assume
Brandon Ramirez
Don't you get that automatically after putting a dot in the ability?
Isaiah Smith
No
Cameron Hernandez
You only do if it's a Caste/Favoured Ability, otherwise you need to get a charm from that ability before you get an Excellency.
Charles Adams
I noticed that, but wasn't going to comment unless the ST gave enhanced chargen or something. A lot usually do.
Kayden Roberts
He appears to have some XP spent already, so it's clearly not a starting character. Aside from that, do some STs really use enhanced chargen, and why? It's not like your character is anything less than impressive with default chargen.
Carter Nguyen
What is enhanced chargen?
Oliver Martinez
They asked what to spend xp on, so it is safe to reason that the character is already in play and has xp sunk in. so it is not a sheet fuck up it seems
Ethan Perez
Well, aside from the fact that he has apparenlty been using his XP mostly on Attributes. That is fucked up in a way.
Kayden Perry
Oh, and it also says how much XP he has right on the sheet, so there is really no need to make assumptions.
Nathaniel Morris
Oh yea so there's the XP.
Honestly though 3e is a lot more forgiving. In 2e this would've been character reset but here its more than doable.
I'd still suggest getting melee up to 5 then dexterity up to 5 in that order ASAP.
Also shit you got INT 5 Lore 5, get some of those fact declaring charms.
Ethan Jones
>I'd still suggest getting melee up to 5 then dexterity up to 5 in that order ASAP. Considering the character is supposed to be obsessed with swords, that makes sense. I don't personally like maxing out combat dice pools as matter of course, no matter he character concept, but here it makes sense.
Colton Morris
>I don't personally like maxing out combat dice pools as matter of course You basically have to if you intend to stay competitive in that regard.
Liam Perry
Nah, not really. Having a couple of dice less that the combat specialists isn't enough to make you useless, you don't have to be competitive with combat specialists in the first place, and most fights should be something even a non-optimized combatant should be able to handle.
Evan Martinez
Parry is also an important thing you're missing out on along with having less dice.
Bentley Cooper
Excellencies and stunts help. Obviously it is always better to have high stats and low stats. It would, for instance, be pretty handy to have 5s in everything. Having low, or rather less than maximized, stats isn't enough to cripple you, though. Especially considering that most of the time you probably won't be fighting a combat-focused Exalts or anything like that.
Isaiah Gray
Charms. Spend all experience on charms.
Elijah Ramirez
This is a good question
Josiah Young
Are there any homebrew shaping rituals? Particularly artefact ones?
David Diaz
What do the magical materiel specialise in? Orichalcum was Gloriousness? Moonsilver did shapeshifting? Brass wasn't one Jade hits hard?
Evan Ortiz
Anyone know of any cheat sheets for Exalted 3E? Want to learn how to play it but it can be a bit difficult without any help. Especially when you include Charms
Daniel Collins
Jade is the only magical material that can't be made, iirc. Except for piss jade, but that doesn't count. Moonsilver can be made with silver and mirrors and moonlight, while Orichalcum with sun and gold and mirrors. Adamantium is Autobot-only and doesn't count.
Wyatt Lopez
This is discussed in the core book, stating from page 612. They no longer have mechanical effects, but the short of it is as follows: Orichalcum does everything because muh solars; Moonsilver does barbarian shit and shape shifting, also poison, unhealing wounds and so on; Starmetal does fate bullshit, scrying, and spirit manipulation; Jade does elements; Soulsteel does ghosts, blood, death, and other assorted edginess.
Ryan Edwards
Huh. Cool, thanks. Starmetal was the flesh of fallen angels wasn't it? Er, dead gods, that is?
Samuel Rodriguez
In Ex3 it's just Meteoric Iron. The "Celetial Soulsteel" idea was pretty poor anyway.
Brody Gomez
I have a campaign in the works that takes place amidst a cold war between the Hundred Kingdoms and the Realm.
Bentley Cox
There's a nicer one out now, but this is all I got.
Xavier Jackson
It was never really intnded that way, but it's what everyone got out of it...
The last remnants of a marker for their station. also gods getting made into starmetal as punishment, though no longer than a hundred years. At least that's what the sidereal charm last said when I read it.
Levi Sanchez
While we are at it, the image of an Eclipse conjuring up a glorious solar flow chart/spreadsheet to show his newest Beaurocratic enlightenments to a desinterested Zenith will always be a personal favorite of mine.
Owen Powell
I don't really like the silver-orichalcum approach with moonsilver. The adamantium thing is sad, really, though it makes sense, if they couldn't com up with someting else for it's origin. Also yellow jade is maybe the most interesting thing about jade in general.
Jackson Foster
>Adamantium is Autobot-only and doesn't count. Nope, it exists in creation, too. (Assuming you mean Adamant)
Angel Garcia
>Looks at ero artifact
What am I doing with my life...
Jack Lopez
Adamant can be found outside Autobot IIRC
Tyler Edwards
I don't see that problem.
Also, share.
William Walker
Are you sure about that?
Jason Jackson
Since when? Can it be made? How was Moonsilver and Orichalcum in 2x?
Cameron Morris
Which magical material would you make a bow out of? I was thinking Moonsilver myself.
Wyatt Miller
Do you need a shaping ritual for each circle you're initiated in?
>Since when? Since forever. In fact, the first age Solars constantly had debates whether Adamant should be added to the 'five Magical Materials' as a sixth one or not.
And nope, it can't be made. You need to mine it.
Hudson Cruz
>What is Exalted? Still bad.
Logan Brown
But it won't make the piles and piles and piles of pages needed for Charms any less of a waste of paper.
Ayden Adams
There's something in 2nd edition about how it's made from glass.
Caleb Morales
Are you seducing a volcano? Not the spirit of one, an actual one.
Absolutely.
Thomas Cruz
Core or somewhere else?
Josiah Sullivan
To be clear, you GET a new shaping ritual for every circle you are initiated into. Think of it as getting a new cool way to gain sorcerous motes at essence 3 and 5.
Daniel Phillips
Magical material selection in my experience has been more dependent on the character and their exaltation than the weapon.
Eli Anderson
Is there a collection of shaping rituals somewhere? I've the imagination of a rock for making up any.
Matthew Long
None that I've seen, though the forums typically have an assorted collection of homebrew. Tell me about the character the ritual is for and I can give it a shot?
Connor Hall
I just used mine to make a joke about fusion dance after taking Unity of the Closed Fist.
Chase Barnes
Somewhere else, although I can't find it. That being said, scroll of the fallen races seem to impy adamant is made from diamond (mountain folk section, p. 55)
Noah Ramirez
Can Zenith or Eclipse declare someone a Creature of Darkness?
Wyatt Mitchell
Nnno? That's UCS' prerogative
Ethan Rivera
>Orichalcum does everything because muh solars; Fucking Solars At least others have roles
Lucas Cruz
Solars have roles. They have everyone's role!
Jose Phillips
Anyone got tips for creating a Solar Exalted character in terms of concept, personality, etc.?
Pick a hero of myth or legend and go from there. Solars are meant to be heroes in the greek sense - larger than life figures with great powers and passions. They don't become amazing when they Exalt - they are Exalted because they are already amazing.
Lincoln Howard
There is actually a charm in Glories of the Most High- UCS that lets you do this. But most STs I've met don't care much for Glories, even if it isn't outright reviled like Dreams of the First Age was
Charm is Terrible Sun King Condemnation on page 27
John Morris
Huh. The more you know. Cool.
Levi Walker
Fuck that weab shit, be Muad'Dib
Aiden Williams
Orichalcum actually doesn't do everything, if you read the description it says that it's used to enhance and take on the abilities of other materials, hence it's nickname of "wishmetal". That means it can't just change shape like moonsilver, or shoot fire like red jade. But adding a little orichalcum to artifacts can give them a boost, letting orichalcum change shape with moonsilver ("taking on the abilities of other materials", since otherwise it'd be an inflexible metal in a flexible weapon), or making the red jade's fire burn a bit hotter.
Orichalcum is a material-enhancer, with the ability to take on the abilities of magic materials it's used in an alloy with, -not- just a do-everything material. It's own themes are hurting Creatures of Darkness, releasing omni-elemental energy, releasing cutting and smashing force, and calling on celestial and terrestrial phenomenon such as causing earthquakes or calling down spears of light to strike down your foes.
Juan Wilson
So I was thinking about Evocations for Wood Dragon Claws and settled on the idea of inflicting poison, but I'm having difficulty balancing them.
First charm would inflict Arrow Frog Venom, easy, costs 3m just like Howling Lotus Strike. Second Evocation I want to deal mote damage, and this is the one I have the most difficulty with. An enemy losing 3m has their mote regen halved, at 5m it's stopped, and at higher levels it's reversed. I was thinking to have i deal (Essence + 2)motes worth of damage per round in order to keep it useful at higher levels of play. Would an activation cost of 5m,1wp be enough? What should the duration and penalty be for this poison?
The final evocation would be one that drains Willpower at a rate of bout 1wp every interval, whether that be every round, minute, or hour. I've not decided yet. I'm having trouble with the duration and penalty again, but the cost I think should be around 10m,1wp give or take two motes.
Any advice on balancing these?
Noah Garcia
>tfw check onyx path schedule >DB book isn't even on summer 2017, it's just "on the horizon"
Jordan Reed
Is there a "dummy's guide to Exalted"? Preferably 2.5. There's so much, and I just want a rough outline like a how the mechanics work and what it means to be a Solar or a Lunar or the other types of exalted.
Anything would be appreciated.
Grayson Parker
It took them 4 years to write the steaming dump that is the core book.
What were you honestly expecting?
Benjamin Moore
People always talk as though Witness to Darkness: is some huge thing you're forced to compromise your character with in exchange for power("which is why most of the 'good' ebon dragon stuff is locked behind it"), but reading the fluff Nightmare Fugue Vigilance sounds far worse to me. What am I missing?
Ryder Watson
but more on topic to the post immediately above mine...
>What's with the slow release schedule?
Onyx Path is run by raksha who have only a vague concept of human time.
