Synthopia

Let's create a synthwave setting.

Bring in your own ideas or answer the following questions:

-Why does the world look like this?
-What time period are we set in, is it even set in our timeline?
-is the world real or virtual, even in the setting?

some input: Politics? Lore? Races? Technology? World Map?

Music?

Sorry, user, creativity and original content is not allowed by the Board Fun Police and your /pol/mod dictators.

my brother, i have been dreaming a synthwave setting for weeks
how about half-real, half virtual?
the unwashed masses live in future hong kong, clouded with smog and smoke and kitschy neon signs
the rich can be transported, TRON-style, into a second virtual city where thoughts are translated into reality, where you can program things into existence, and is bright shiny and yet just as dangerous

>Did you mean Moonbeam City?

The entire universe is contained in a single fancy-ass, incredibly complex computer. There used to be a world outside the computer, but they're all dead now. The computer's inhabitants have long forgotten that the outside world exists.

i kind of like this.

>Synthopia is a virtual reality computer network
>real life counterpart of your virtual conciousness dies off
>your virtual counterpart stays alive in Synthopia
>can't escape because, well, you're dead in the real world
>no one ages in synthopia, due to everyone only being a virtual copy of his reallife counterpart
>it's been a long time since synthopia started, meanwhile every reallife counterpart has died off

I love this, kind of like the matrix but more 80's and with less genocidal robots

The classes can be:

>Cyber Cop - specialises in big ballistic shields, riot gear, and non lethal means of take down like tasers and bean bag shotguns. Also skilled with batons and stun batons.

>Hacker - speclialises in cyber combat and performance checks; best at navigating The Net

>Mutant - specialises in physical combat in the real world; depth grovelling social outcast who can roll to determine his weird mutation that can be helpful, harmful or both. Adept in melee weapons like axes, sledgehammers, lead pipes, broken beer bottles, improvised weapons and steel chains

>Psionic - mutants blessed (or cursed) with incredible feats of mental acuity; typical pyrokinesis, telepathy and clairvoyance. Chock full of utility and damaging mental abilities

>Samurai - forgoes fire arms for Japanese weapons like shurikens, katana, yumi, wakazashi and so on and so forth. Must face their opponents in honourable combat or face being internationally blacklisted by other Samurai on the Net.

>Ninja - stealth based class, adept with silenced fire arms, shurikens, knives, and bows. Minor Net capabilities

>Cyborg - obessively fixated with replacing body parts with better military hardware. Great net capabilities but less so than the hacker. Potentially very strong but the threat of having your limbs hacked and used against you a very real threat multiplied by every cybernetic upstage you take. Skilled with most combat weapons and can replace arms with grenade and rocket launchers as well as deploying robot drones as back up or reconnaissance

Privileged - socialite who belongs to the upper class citizenry. Forgoes most combat and takes yuuuge buffs to all social skills.

Soldier - basic fighter type who specialises in combat. Iconic weapon is the Assault Rifle. Capable of placing breaching charges that stun enemies on the other end as well as being skilled with most other fire arms.

Congratulations, you created a cliche cyberpunk setting.

So you want Shadowrun but more campy and with an 80's aesthetic?

Fine by me, I love Cyberpunk fiction

Been there, done that: youtube.com/watch?v=bS5P_LAqiVg

Just add more hackerman.

I was thinking more like the vast majority of the inhabitants are actually advanced computer programs. Like NPCs for a game that no longer has PCs.

Mind if I use this

>the illuminati know this and conceal it from the majority of the public who have long forgotten this fact ages ago
>living in Synthtopia is idyllic, almost like being a lotus eater: ethereal and not unlike a dream
>Difficulty retaining long term memories and gauging time is warped - think long endless summers from your childhood
>if you die in Synthtopia your avatar is erased entirely from the programme

Not what the op probably wanted but definitely what I'd want.

its all yours my friend

>The terrain of Synthopia isn't mappable in the normal sense. It is all interconnected and you can walk from one place to any other place, but while short distances are easily navigable by sight longer distances and route planning are almost strictly non-euclidian. Think of it more like finding your way through a message board than walking from point A to point B.
>People enter Synthopia via many different portals, but as they travel they tend to converge with each other. Think of how people join a message board for a specific board, then seem to drift and congregate somewhere more common, but for "physical" space. For this reason, most people live and interact in "outer" Synthopia, a place where you can meet those who are just visiting mingling with those who live there permanently. As you travel deeper into Synthopia it becomes less and less like the "real" world and converges into a strange almost Minecraft-Farlands-Esque aberration.
>Some say that at the very center is a black void miles across, and in the very center of that is a stream of raw machine data. No one has been able to provide incontrovertible proof that this is the case or that they have even been there though.
>Rarely, a ghostly white figure will appear, then just as soon vanish. They are variously known as GMs, Mods, or just Machine Spirits. Usually they just observe, but ometimes they take people or things with them. Rarely, they even bring them back. Nothing is the same once it comes back. There's no pattern to it, they are just different, changed, and they can provide no information about the ghosts.

Tron-esque cyberpunk setting, but hacking the amazingly intricate computers of the future is done not with vode, but music. There are not only character classes, but each also selects an instrument/role that dictates how well they can hack the world, or just what situations it works in. I imagine that synthesizers would be more 'complicated' than other options, but could fill in any other role.

Anybody named Aaron is going to be called Synth Synth something.

What the hell did I just watch.

Powersynth Racer here

Turbosynth87 reporting in

>have lived inside Synthopia for your whole life
>be used to the laws and physics of this world
>one day find out about synthopias horrible secret, and that your reallife identity has been dead for a long time; you're nothing but a virtual ghost.

this could make up for a great twist.

>giant virtual dungeons containing hostile programs based off long-dead aspects of pop culture
>designed by megacorps with dirt to hide, AIs that want to hide valuable tech and programs from meatbags, and occasional cyber-revolutionaries
>Dungeon Hackers exist that can manipulate the dungeons and make exploring larger dungeons easier, like creating new doorways, unlocking doors, wallhacking, aimhacking, and creating gateways (or ports, or whatever) from the dungeon to the nearest city

Is this too Fantasy? Also, totally ripped off the Dungeon Hacker class from a blog.

Laser Power Killer.

I can live with that.

Boops oppress beeps, beeps oppress bleeps, bleeps oppress bonks.

Sounds righteous

>Or you are actively trying to maintain the illusion
>have since accepted that your "real" self is dead
>but at least you are still here.
>even if "you" are not
>upon Synthtopia death, you become integrated with the land and sounds of where you died
>Your last call becomes remixed into the sound track with all the others

Synth Killer.

Hmm, slicer-dicer.

Wait, misread chart. Actual result is TURBOSYNTH Killer.

That's balls nasty.

>Biggest Capital City is called Syncity
>world aesthetic obviously like in OPs pic, with holographic Palmtrees and shit
>people fight with Lazerblades, Vaporrifles and Shit.
>Sunglasses are used to shield your eyes from the Ultrabright Lazers (thats the official scientific term)
>world has dangerous creatures such as Vibrosaurs, Turbotigers and Gigawolfs, only Dangerrangers are there to help the civilians

Have you been lurking /pol/ recently?
