Song of Swords: A Different Kind of Space

I'm making a Ballad game set in the Star Wars universe. Right now, I'm making the weapons. This basically means trawling Wookiepedia and assigning blasters to Ballad gun statlines. Does anyone have any suggestions on how these guns should be statted? Special Rules or Blaster specific considerations? I'm debating how to handle ammo, and whether to make it the same as Ballad or make it more like canon and have each gas pack hold a couple hundred shots. Races are also a question. I think most of the humanoid races (humans, Rodians, Duros) will basically be all the same stat and PCP wise, but I'm not sure how to do shit like Wookies or droids.

Once this is done, I will of course be sharing it here.

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games.

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

Here's a wiki detailing SoS's fantasy setting, getting filled up bit by bit as Jimmy reveals more details:

>Ballad to Star Wars
Holy shit, most of the material is already there. Void Magic=Force, Way of 5=Jedi fightan

This is genius, mcfucking do it m8

Wookies have a special racial variant of Big Guy and have access to the Wookie Armory for bowcasters and shit. They have + to physical stats. Throw in a line about how they don't need winter clothes to survive on Hoth or something. Boom, done.

While we're on the subject of content and homebrew, one of my players gave into his intense autism and made a table for determining how hard it is to hear a silenced gun. He managed to make it fairly usable too. If you're playing a stealth game it might be useful.

Reposting the LaTex pdf since it is overtly superior to the old one.

SMASH THE TEETH AND CUT THE EYES
THE MEN OF RAHOO RULE THE SKIES

SoS damage isn't balanced against Ballad armor right?

Not yet, but I think Jimmy said it might be in the future.

I respect the autism, but holy shit mate.

Wait, he forgot to factor subsonic loads. I retract the statement, no respect for this autism.

Hey Jimmy, what's the deal with all the Way of Five traditions? Is there a difference between a templar and a paladin?

Templars are weird war cultists who hate modern warfare and civilian casualties because it ruins the aesthetic experience of war. So they drink tar to give them ways to beat industrialized warfare. Everyone agrees to basic rules of combat to prevent massive Templar coups.

I don't think Paladins exist in the Void.

Granted, its outdated stuff, but there it seems like there's more traditions than just pilgrims and templars.

Clerics may be completely blatant ripoffs of those guys from Equilibrium. The guns are already in the game.

>may
There is no may when it comes to Jimmy ripping something off.

Wooks are basically burdboo++

I fucking love SoS for this reason. the list of shit that went into this game is so long and so bizarre that it defies description.
>Okay so it's like Kingdom of Heaven... Plus Judge Dredd. And that's just the beginning.

Way of Five is absolutely intended to be gun kata.

They can't really dodge bullets, though. So the best they can get is extra strength and toughness beyond a human. Like six or maybe even seven.

In FFG's Star Wars stuff droids start with 1 in everything but get a hamper pack of exp to specialise in whatever they like + bonus skills from whoever their 1st specialisation i.e. Whatever it was they were built to do.

You could create skill packages for Mechanic, Security, Protocol... droids.

/Swg/ have the files.

>Implying Erusea will ever rule this clay

Building a Droid would basically just be building a regular character with that system, since that's what you do in character creation. Probably the best way to start is with prosthetics and implants as the components of the droid. Make them cheaper and easier to apply in exchange for lower stats in general, maybe?

According to the guy who wrote it, subsonic rounds are apparently intended to be represented by the cold loaded round RS modifier already in Ballad.

OFF WE GO

Show me your fiercest shield!

I have often struggled with finding good images of far east arms and armour, but years of diligent saving has given me a decent gallery. Want me to post?

...

pretty fierce, bro.

Give it a whirl. We all need eastern arms and armor in our lives.

Ballad fighter rules when?

Ballad shio rules when?

Kickstarter when?

Kickstarter this month.

Unlikely

>believing the words of the Prince of Lies

See that mountain? You can Kickstart it.

Is it actually confirmed anywhere that Gizka is a dyke, or is that just an assumption based off of her haircut and the fact that she fights people?

Knowing Jimmy's love of plot twists, Gizka will turn out to be totally straight, marry a normal guy and have a bunch of babies after she gets over her "badass mercenary" phase.

Then some bandits will attack the town she's in, thinking that they'e tough shit, and she will emerge from her kitchen with a rolling pin and beat the entire gang to death with it.

YOU BRING A THOUSAND

I love the idea of being an ultranationalist for a country that doesn't even exist. Dace has all the trappings of a real nation of self-important psychopaths, so you can basically roleplay as a fanatic Dacian despite there being no Dace.

>Dace
>doesn't exist
SAY THAT TO MY CLAY NOT ONLINE FUCKER, SEE WHO STABS YOU

So what's the deal with ogres?

They may or may not be no longer Canon.

Earth Gizka was prison gay despite being a practicing Muslim and was wanted for straight and gay prostitution. Also impersonating a pigeon. Tattered Realms Gizka isn't as explicit, but she has a bodyguard made entirely out of identical women.

I want this to be my next character.

...

AbsoruteryDisgustingu.png

what a cute ratnigger

>Earth Gizka
Wait who is Gizka actually based on? All I bothered to learn was that she was a brown womanlet with mary sue swording skill

Gizka was originally a fecht character by John Galt, not a setting-lynchpin character by Jimmy Rome.

She was an Anatolian Muslim during the Renaissance, at that.

...

The historical-world Gizka was some sort of assassin living in 15th century Europe. She was a Muslim who had been through some shit.

dont talk to me or my wife's vase ever again.

we need a FECHT version of this

The original fechts are all canon still, just replaced with the TR versions of the real world names. She assassinated a Ruvian cardinal and got shot in a double cross, not a Roman cardinal.

>tired of your shit, knapsack

So was her name Gizka? I tried looking it up and all I got was star wars pests and how to remove them in KotOR

Sarah Gizka. Tasty brown girl-Hitler.

now all I get is Veeky Forums posts from 2011 and a deep feeling of sadness at how long we've gone and how far we've failed to come.

Hey y'all. I have been thinking about the comic and how it will proceed lately and would ask you to help me out with a poll

>New story with new characters every chapter
If you put that kind of option in, I can't but choose it.

Otherwise, continue current storyline.

I had to use dumb man words because I couldnt remember the word "anthology".

Osprey is garbage.

I will cut you

a slice of fancy cheese while we discuss taste and why you feel negatively about Osprey in a polite and respectful manner.

I like Osprey, but a fair amount of their Asian stuff is pretty spurious.

fact, to be fair.
Haha, time to post chinamen!

Most of my gripes have been addressed by this blog post.

Few things he didn't mention.

The standard bearer's helmet dates to 1606 AD and "surcoat" forms of armor supplanted previous Song styles. Furthermore, the the Ming did not apply lacquer to their armors.

The handgunner's jacket is actually attested in several late Ming military manuals.

Do you think this setup could support a homebrew Space Western setting?

There's mecha and stuff in it, so kinda hard just to adapt star wars alone. Also I don't like omni powerful laser swords 1-shotting everything.

I mean, yeah it definitely could. The question is if the level of hard realism and the amount of work you'll do getting what you want out of it is what you want.

is that a gunpowder and spear bomb-hawk?

...

China did lots of cool shit.

I've had it in my mind that if I ever ran a Japan-focused game in SoS, the prelude is basically gonna be the 1598 Battle of Sacheon.

that sounds pretty cool

Would blind toss move range or not?

No, I don't think so.

There are two ways to look at it. The first is Blind Toss is performed at the current range of combat. If it hits it will set the range to what the current range of combat was at declaration. The other way to look at it is to say Blind Toss is a unique attack - unlike any other in the system - which is performed without a reach and so does not alter range at all. I think the first interpretation is correct. The example is of no use since it doesn't mention range.

They have layers.

It wouldn't really make sense to change range. What are you going to do, throw fairy dust and teleport away?

...

That same complaint applies to any instance of changing range. The only instance in which this would change range is if you declare a Blind Toss but they land an attack before you that is of a different range than the current range.
