I posted in the ded thread But any advice for Atraxa superfriends? Do I need more stax or pic related? It seems like my walkers will hit the board and die to faster players tappedout.net/mtg-decks/more-emblems-please/ For comparison my krenko deck consistently wins on turn 6 and would eat this deck alive imo
Liam Brown
what are some core cards to a rafiq(or any other blue/white/green guy that buffs people) deck? I've been thinking on building a heroic thing a deck centered around humans doing great deeds, like slaying everyone on the table I'm searching my cards to find some good stuff, but I have no idea of what to search for I know I'm after global enchantments, buffing, removal, and a few angels.
David Thomas
I'm considering building five color fun stuff. Any suggestions? Progenitus?
Joseph Garcia
It's not that the deck is shit, it's just boring. Why do something that tons of people are doing? There's so much more creative space to explore with atraxa than just the same superfriends deck everyone's seen a hundred times full of edhrec top picks and boring money cards. It's not even a good spikey win. Tazri food chain is more exciting, there's more interaction, more powerful moves, it's faster, etc. Superfriends just slowly grinds the game out to the point of not being fun even for the pilot. Winning becomes a tedious chore that you have to complete to move into your next game. I play daretti stax but once I have torpor orb and tangle wire, I just go for the kill with a wincon or strong beats (hell kite tyrant or igniter).
Landon Taylor
tazri, but its actually a zada spin-'n-cantrip-to-win with five colors.
Juan Rodriguez
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be? I've always liked wrath of god, swords to plowshares and path to exile. But those are actually good cards. For less good cards I always try to include pic related in many decks, and often it gets cut because 6 mana for the creature to get removed is not that great, it's inferior to Jitte and the swords of x and y, but I just love the life swing it makes. edhrec.com/commanders/rafiq-of-the-many Finest hour, noble hierarch, path to exile, wrath of god, swords to plowshares, qasali pridemage and sublime archangel are all very much in the flavor of Rafiq, and I feel the playstyle is very high value cards at low cost. Mother of runes comes to mind. Umezawa's jitte. Things that each card of mine is going to be outclassing yours 2 to 1 every time. Armageddon for when your board state gets just a little ahead of theirs. Elspeth, knight errant just because she's so efficient and flavorful. Sigarda, host of herons because she does so much in a small package. Things like that
Zachary Moore
>krenko deck winning on t6 consistently man i miss being that slow.
Sebastian Jenkins
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be? I've got a soft spot for pic related. I try to fit it into any deck that supports it and it's gotten me out of a good many jams.
Anyone got some Spicy Darien, King of Kjeldor tech? Ramping hasn't been an issue so far, but I run out of gas pretty quick. I've got Mentor of The Meek, Staff of Nin, Skullclamp, and the cycling lands, but that's about it. Need card advantage or even pseudo-card advantage.
Samuel Hughes
Ok I hear ya. I just really wanted this deck since the printing of atraxa is all, but if the deck is boring I could see going another direction. The other directions she lends towards are +1/+1 counters or infect. Infect could be pretty nasty imo and fun to play. I am also planning on building Tazri but I will probably get BTFO my playgroup for being too tryhard and winning on turn 3
Brody Green
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be?
This card. Even if it helps my opponents more sometimes, I always incuded it on my green decks.
I have a confession to make. I never realized until a few days ago that there people in this art, I thought for years they were just trees or background objects.
Logan Anderson
I know Pia and Kiran isn't a great commander, but I'd like some constructive criticism on this or any of my decks:
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be? Sol Ring
Nah, it's actually Withered Wretch
Joshua Nelson
Arguably you're not even playing EDH at that point, you're playing vintage "I win" combo Most of the tables I sit down at won't play with you at all if you are winning turn 3 desu senpai
Carson Hall
Should I build Adun Oakenshield, Selvala Explorer Returned, or Hanna, Ships Navigator? Having a hard time deciding. Who is the most competitive? I have pieces for each but also whos deck is going to cost the most just due to the price of the staples you need to build it?
Kevin Bennett
to fill the deck I should get some warriors/knights/soldiers with protection and some instants that can either kill stuff or buff my soldiers. for the blue part I could get some strategic tapping and return to hand stuff that feels like "le mastermind strategist" and for the green I could put some auras and other druids that feel like noble hierarch, but I feel like the auras(at least the ones I got) are too far away from the white part of the green
I may put some kithkin or some dwarves from ghirapur, but I'll probably stay away from elves though, those guys are boring.
Nicholas Gonzalez
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be? My nigga Thrun. Probably my favorite card in all of Magic.
Jace Young
No my Krenko deck blows up T5. My playgroup just had to adapt to my decks blowing up T4-5 and now they win T3-4. Or at the very least focus the ever living fuck outta me.
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be?
For everything except exile he's just gonna keep coming back.
Aaron Davis
I forgot to ask anything in there, sorry.
am I going on the right direction?
Aaron Brown
Forgot my pic.
Luis Martinez
>running Eldrazi displacer over Nim Deathmantle in Breya ignoring the fact that you should be running both, why the fuck would you run a creature eldrazi over an artifact with a commander who's crazy strong with artifact reanimation?
Josiah Hall
Infiltration lens and pic related?
Asher Flores
friend recently tried to get me out of my slump by getting me back into magic. gifted me the UG ezuri deck fresh in the box because I thought he looked cool.
The group we play with on saturdays has been cool about it but I can tell they're using lower powered decks to try and match me and after 3 weeks I'm sure they're tired of that so I would like to bring the power level of the deck up a lot. I have a few hundred to blow since I've got nothing else to spend money on.
Can anyone recommend some must haves for this guy?
Ryder Cox
Impressive, I might run Tenacious Dead now
Zachary Myers
>Infiltration Lens
Not bad at all, thank you.
Jackson Nguyen
I really like knight of the reliquary, eternal witness and dauntless escort. If you like knights with protection there's always mirran crusader and paladin en-vec. Some other great utility guys are dauntless escort, edric spymaster of trest (even tho hes an elf), geist of saint traft and trygon predator.
Dylan Howard
I don't play simic, but I see Sage of hours and champion of lambholt in a lot of decks that get posted here. There also fairly budget so i would include them.
Ian Williams
I can't think of any must haves, but Mycoloth seems to synergize well with him.
Logan Perry
Also this
Gavin Hughes
Nice quads and out of curiosity, why take this over, say, Reassembling Skeleton?
Luis Bell
Quite spicy indeed.
Kayden Thomas
It's different than my rafiq deck, and basically that's a good thing I focus more on trying to falcon punch opponents in one swing with rafiq If you wanna go tribal humans/knights/soldiers with it that's great. My list looks more like the edhrec list. I can try to type it up into tappedout but it may take a minute
Zachary Scott
It was the first skeleton I got, I think in the M14 black intro deck. Reassembling might be better but this holds a special place in my heart.
Jaxson Perry
Fair enough, more power to ya.
Jeremiah Campbell
Hornet Queen is crazy good. Crystalline Crawler, too. +1/+1 counters has a LOT of support, so you're really spoiled for choice with these decks.
Kevin Murphy
>What is a pet card you try to include no matter how efficient it may be? I always run some of these
Logan Ross
Can someone please give me suggestions on this list? Improvements to the list and criticism are welcome. This is my first EDH decklist.
I cant access the site right now. It just gives me the page with the ornithopters.
Brody Ortiz
tappedout is down, it seems.
This is really cool. Definitely gonna find room for it in my Gwafa Control deck
Cameron Cook
>not using the best art
Jeremiah Cruz
thought you were joking until I tried my own links. Well that's a drag.
Juan Sanders
Tappedout is down for maintenance I think
Caleb Brooks
thankfully I have a lot of those cards already I'll see where I can get finest hour, sublime and the geist
no need to type it if it's going to be any trouble
I'm not sure I wanna go for a tribal thing with lots of "[creature type] gets [a lot of abilities]" I'm getting a deck full of "everyone gets [something]" type of abilities. it'll end up being about normal guys going heroic, and rafiq is there mainly because he is heroic and a symbol to the army.
I'm figuring out some "core" cards(other than the ones said before) so far I have >court street denizen >brigitte, kinsbale heroin >dragonscale general >archetype of courage(and planning on adding the other archetypes, if they fit) >anafenza's spirit >odric lunarch marshall >eidolon of countless battles
it won't be based on creature type, but rather on stuff that everyone benefits from this thing builds itself
Zachary Allen
Oh freaking no I spent like 20 min writing up my rafiq deck and tappedout goes down for maintentence no warning I think I lost all my progress. Sad face.
Aiden Martinez
I get rewarded for being lazy and not putting my 3rd commander deck up there yet
Elijah Roberts
Well tappedout is down right now so I can't post mine. Living Hive is good, also recommend hooded hydra and chasm skulker for their inevitable deaths, freyalise llanowar's fury for the dorks, fathom mage to refill your hand, etc. I avoid running infect except for Viral Drake mainly for the proliferate and with the proper setup you can kill by commander dmg without even buffing ezuri
Noah Long
is infect still 10 counters to lose in commander?
Isaac Adams
Well my list looks basically like this + or - a few things and without the lands
rafiq of the many
finest hour qasali pridemage noble hierarch sublime archangel battlegrace angel baneslayer angel mirari's wake mirran crusader hero of bladehold brimaz, king of oreskos path to exile swords to plowshares rhystic study fact or fiction sol ring sensei's divining top umezawa's jitte control magic wrath of god martial coup thrun, the last troll mother of runes knight of the reliquary solemn simulacrum phyrexian metamorph dauntless escort sigarda, host of herons stoneforge mystic glen elendra archmage tamiyo, field researcher sylvan library sower of temptation azorius signet selesnya signet simic signet mana crypt mana vault batterskull sword of fire and ice sword of feast and famine sword of war and peace day of judgment supreme verdict birthing pod green sun's zenith enlightened tutor chord of calling acidic slime sovereigns of lost alara eldrazi conscription rancor trygon predator cryptic command counterspell krosan grip yavimaya elder lightning greaves cultivate kodama's reach propaganda geist of saint traft austere command sylvan reclamation consecrated sphinx
Jace Sullivan
>Sol ring is still not banned.
This is getting sad.
Landon Price
yes
Jackson King
That's never, EVER going to happen.
The best we can hope for is Mana Crypt to be banned.
Gabriel Ward
woah, thanks I'll copypaste that into some place I can see the cards better I'm currently browsing white cards only and listing them, I'm at 17 and I think it's enough I'll go for a 60 cards +40 lands, but I'm not even sure of the proportion I have a tendency to hoard creatures in my decks
yes, sage of hours was the first card the group recommended I buy, so I did. it's one of a small handful of singles I've added to the deck so far
mycoloth is another one of those i've added, doubling the exp counters each turn is crazy
thanks, i'm sure I can cut some chaff for those. I've noticed the out of the box deck had a lot of cards that didn't seem to go with the strategy, and some just weren't really good at all. are all the prebuilt decks like that?
living hive looks cool but it seems kind of expensive. is infect frowned upon in commander? someone mentioned something about a lot of ezuri decks winning by infect but they didn't show me any particular cards. I wasn't playing during mirrodin 2.0 so I'm not familiar with infect cards.
one of the guys in the group traded me a panharmonicon and a skullclamp for the command beacon that came with the deck and they've both been crazy good in the games i've drawn them
Brody Williams
Shattering Pulse. So efficent. So resourceful.
Owen Nelson
>have dozens of potential generals >my collection is crap and every single pile is badly sub-optimal
Aiden Anderson
He's a big effect, so fun for the guy who gets him out. Other people don't enjoy it, but that's because they're either bad at saving answers or just got wrecked and they weren't done building their hugbox.
Jordan Nelson
Infect isn't wholly frowned upon but many people still like to make house rules by bumping infect loss from 10 to 20. Also gyre sage is great for him.
>got panharmonicon and skullclamp for command beacon
Should've kept the beacon and bought the panharm yourself
Luis Richardson
unless the Jin player puts ton of ramp or infinity mana combos in the deck he will have hard time even getting him out.
honestly even if he did get him out he will eat removal faster than pretty much any other creature in the game
Jacob Lee
I just searched about 15 pages of white cards for my rafiq deck, and I got little more than 20 potential creatures
I'll weed it out(probably) but I still need some samples of blue and green creatures to put in the mix, preference for humans and spirits/elementals/magicbeings that represent humans and their characteristics
for spells I'll mostly go to stuff that interacts with auras and other stuff, I'm not so concerned about it right now I'll probably have a shitty response capability, though
Julian Cruz
so i was holding a rather large of magic cards at my local game store today behind a couple neckbeards that i know from when i played on the pro tour with my team in years younger. It was the only pod with an open seat so there wasnt much of an option to try out my sweet Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro brew for a party i was heading to. i was wondering why the game was going nowhere when i decided to poke my snake shaman up front to see what the delay was. it was a cyclonic rift but the jin-gitaxias player didn't have enough mana for the overload and was trying to talk the judge into letter him get away with being short. this struck me as odd until i found out she was mere 1/2 mana short of her spell. now all these players were just staring and there were even two making fun of him. i walked up and handing my sachi deck to the judge, handed him a storm ctow and told him to keep the change. one of the neckbeards (i knew these people, so i also knew that they play original dual lands in their edh decks) grabbed their body pillow and yelled very loudly, "see that man? he's acting just like maro wants us to." for some reason this set me off, so i turned around. i havent shaved in a while so im rocking some nice scruff, a tolarian community college shirt (DAE Dollar?), and gym shorts, so it must have been a nice sight. very loudly, i said "like maro? m'lady im an atheist who plays saffron olive budget modern decks and i was the one who stepped up to help them? your hypocritical new world order is an inspiration to us all." as i stormed off, a couple of the drafters started to whistle and cheer, soon standard players joined in and even the owner. i tapped a land and went off with a feeling of accomplishment
Connor Gomez
Idyllic tutor and Enlightened tutor are your friend. Also I'd suggest if your going for an aura or enchantment theme you also invest in a Serra's Sanctum. They're still relatively cheap in comparison to Gaea's Cradle which is now something like $150
Jordan Thompson
i would cut hope of ghirapur
Matthew Phillips
Every single time I can, I slot this card.
Ian Hill
Jin-Git is fun if you enjoy bathing in the abject misery and rage of the table
Juan Hernandez
personally I like him because I got him foil along with the black praetor on the same booster during new phyrexia pre release
I never played him(he's more of a sentimental value card for me) but I'm pretty sure he makes the game unfun.
Xavier Bell
I think anyone that complains about Jin has one of two problems. 1 You are playing a pussy casual deck that you say is "fun" but it's just full of shit cards or 2 you don't run any answers in your deck and because of this deserve to get punished by the ability
Isaac Sanchez
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/05-02-17-falcon-punch/ Here's the tappedout list. I made a few cuts like brimaz and I might consider cutting geist of saint traft as well, as he doesn't like getting blocked by most things in the format. By the way tappedout is back up for anyone wondering
Xavier Gonzalez
>Opponent gets to 10 mana with that guy in the command zone >Let's not hold up removal for it! Idiots.
Evan Ward
You could try doing like a phyrexian artifact vault themed deck. Use old artifacts from before 8th edition that have counters. The old stockpile lands and what not. Run the new phyrexia proliferate cards to fuel the ancient artifacts that give you the advantage. That's at least what I'd do if I was trying to build a unique Atraxa
Robert Gonzalez
Makes for a decent voltron commander. Uncounterable, untargetable, regenerating. Throw some nice equipment on him and give him evasion and you got yourself a quick 21 damage.
David Bailey
Reposting:
Probably taking out Seismic Spike for something like Fervor. Anything else I need to consider for a super budget vehicles deck?
Jose Martinez
Don't mind me, just being dumb and not posting the list:
Gyre Sage, if you're looking for a shit ton of green mana
Angel Richardson
Well, they're different colours all so kind of a weird question, but I assume you're going the stax route. I would give my vote for Hanna, she's absolutely wonderful.
Selvala is also a lovely lady, but she plays entirely different kind of deck and I feel like she isn't very competitive because of the card draw unless you have a way to limit your opponent casting spells reliably.
Oakenshield seems okay too, but if you're doing stax, I would rather use either Shattergang Bros. or Karrthus as a finisher, but if colour shift doesn't matter, I could recommend Karador, he plays pretty similarly to Oakenshield, but is in different colours and is more efficient.
Overall though, I'd say Hanna is the best one, but I never had any experience with Oakenshield. Afterall, enchantments and artifacts are the best permanent types there is.
Joshua Rivera
I run jinjan augur man as my almost colorless deck commander. It's mana rocks and eldrazi with 20 islands and 3 blue spells (including commander)
My old colorless eldrazi deck was fun but ran out of gas constantly. I even tried both kozileks as commander but. ..it wasn't enough.
Jin is amazing at the lead
Camden Evans
Yes. You want to do like me and build Skittles. Include Unspeakable Symbol and cackle as you win combat forever and seize whenever someone kills your creature after all the life you paid. >tfw you pay 39 life and you get Gut Shotted
Andrew Long
Hey, /edhg/, can any of you tell me the best way to build Sydri without using infinite combo cheese? My group can't handle that playstyle, but I still want to build her.
Luke Thomas
Do I run Panharmonicon in Sakashima or no?
Because it looks like it makes sense in theory...
Cameron Hernandez
Lattice and destroy all lands
Dominic Davis
Do you run a lot of ETB effects? Then yes. I wouldn't depend on opponents running them.
Angel Cooper
Make it an Oloro lifegain deck but without Oloro. >robots that get lifelink and either attack or ping >pingers that get deathtouch to control the board >various other incidental life gain effects like pristine talisman and shit >payoffs like the aetherflux death star or karlov Should be causal and janky enough fun. Probably a bit inconsistent but you're in good colors for tutor, control and card draw.
Robert Sanders
I have this annoying friend in my play group who uses Meren of Clan Nel Toth and spore frog. My no creature Narset can get around it with extra turns, but how can I deal with it with say, an Atraxa deck?
Matthew Richardson
>How do I deal with [Thing Meren does]
Pack more graveyard hate.
Pack more tutors to get your graveyard hate.
Grayson Smith
Firstly, you go to your nearest river and drown yourself for playing Narset.
Secondly, Grave hate.
Jayden Brown
What is the best grave hate? Instant speed?
Julian Cruz
I don't understand, even if you don't pack grave hate, just kill their spore frog eot.
Or keep killing Meren. 6 mana fogs aren't good, and 8 mana fogs are atrocious.
Robert Hughes
>What is the best grave hate?
Rest in Peace.
Also Relic of Progenitus.
Caleb Gutierrez
atraxa really likes scavenging ooze. which I think is even in the precon, but maybe that's another deck. there's also necrogenesis, bojuka bog, night soil, rest in peace, nihil spellbomb, relic of progenitus, grafdiggers cage, cranial archive and others. But i prefer cards that do more than only hate on raveyards.
Jason Fisher
Bojuka Bog is great and Rakdos Charm works wonders as well
