Dorf mode is a spiff off of Dwarf Fortress, a game with disturbingly consistent parallels to SS13.

The idea is that everyone starts on and work together to improve an under-supplied and under-stocked station. A lot of mining, exploration, salvaging, and mob battles especially since Freeman made it his mission to turn carp into harbingers of doomsday

The rounds can last for days. They tend to crash CPUs before ending in IC loss.

Being able to do things in is pinch can save your life when things go to shit.
And the more tools in your belt, the more free toys you have as an tag.
And beyond that, you can just... opt not to contribute to the station. Beyond your role, at least.

Firstly, it's super complex so there's going to a be a long and shaky learning phase.

But most confusingly, the rules are contradictory.

Okay, that makes sense. I used to play a W3 mod called Parasite/Phase Killer/Metastasis/Zerg Infestation that was essentially that same premise.

But you can be banned for killing? Even if its killing the Traitor? Even if you ARE the Traitor?

That doesn't make any sense at all.

But most of the stories in these threads are roughly 50% stories about how people murdered everyone in silly ways. Does that mean killing isn't bannable?

Different servers, different rules.
Read the fucking rules for the server you join.

Each server is different on the ruleset. Essentially our ruleset is you can kill without getting in trouble as long as it isn't because they looked at you wrong, or don't make it a habit.

You're allowed to do anything as antag as long as you don't do it over and over and make it stale.

Basically rule of cool is our ruleset, and only people who try to grab a weapon every round and find ways to "validly" kill people is what gets a person banned, or respawn abusing which is using prior character knowledge as a new character.

Don't worry, everyone is still in the learning phase.

Rule clarification:
On d20 we're rules-light, low administration. Killing people as not the traitor: iffy, but fine as long as you aren't murdering everyone for no appreciable reason. Expect a "hey wtf r u doin" from an admin if you murder people indiscriminately.
Killing people as the traitor: 100% fine, remove at your heart's content, just don't do shit like spawncamp or deliberately prolong the round (game session) to murder more people.
Killing the traitor: see "killing as not the traitor". If you have a positive ID, a lynch mob, etc: RIP the traitor or presumed traitor.

tl;dr Pick your targets unless you're the traitor (or antag to be generic).

I should also clarify that the objective of the game is not to find out the traitor and "win", but it's more so to have fun and make a great story. Pic related.

All those times the server goes down? It's him. It always coincides with one of his sockpuppets playing, and him dying during the round, even if it's his own fault from trying to refill a lit welder or something or spacing himself while trying to dispose of the body of some innocent he killed in a fit.

What's your relationship with Veeky Forumsstation? Do you share a codebase, or port back & forth?

d20 branched from NT code in 2014 and has heavily modified it since then.

d20 is unaffiliated with TGstation and exists because a few of us feel TGstation is no longer Veeky Forums related in any way but for two letters.

d20 is hosted by a fa/tg/guy, coded by fa/tg/guys, /k/ommandos, whatever Veeky Forums calls themselves, and more.

We also boast the addition of "Dorf mode", based on Dwarf Fortress. Players must work together to build and mine starting only with the bare necessities on a hostile asteroid laden with loot and dangerous fauna. Also carp migrations. Dear god the carp.

The starting station is already piped and wired, but only a very basic setup. The air supply is hooked to a single air canister, power is run through a single SMES and a PAC-MAN, etc etc.

While you can't spawn in as a cyborg or AI on Dorf, players can still build them with proper research. pAI devices can also be directly inserted into cyborg chassis, mech suits, and I think AI cores if you want to go that route.

it's kind of like dorf fortress, where it all looks really complicated and intimidating to a new player because of all the weird little verbs and options and buttons and what the fuck is that on your HUD
but it's not hard to learn, and quickly becomes second nature.

if you can get a cigarette packet and a lighter from a vending machine and successfully have a smoke, you've more or less got the basics down.

as far as rules go, there's a rules button that shows you all of them. the biggest one is respawn abuse - people respawning with the same name and appearance, or respawning to try to get one over on the person who killed them last life. other than that, we're relatively light on all that shit.

atmos is pretty easy to set up from scratch to be honest
most of the 'atmos is complicated' stuff comes from the fact that metastation's atmos is an overdesigned, cancerous tumour that some mapper's esssentially pre-built their own atmos autism setup in. if you took out all the canister mixing shit from that you'd have something half the size
the most basic atmos recycling system is just two filters going from scrubber loop to distro loop for oxygen and nitrogen, then shooting everything else into space.

i'm actually curious to know how you've figured all this, like how do you know when he's supposed to be DDOSing, or how he's feeling at any given moment? your psychic powers may be useful to your country, my friend.
