Anyone got a recommendation for an army which is beginner friendly in terms of painting, looking to stay away from warhammer 40k until i git gud at painting, AoS is what I'm looking at currently, thinking about orroks.

I'm gonna make my Valkyrie into a Vendetta.
Am I the only one who loves the armored dudes you get with this kit?
>AoS
>calling Orcs and Goblins Orruks
Kill thine self

no fucking idea what the names are, since they change from 40k to AoS to every other thing GW has produced

Hey bro, you like painting spines?

YOU WILL LEARN TO LIKE IT

These things just never end, there is like 75 horns and spikes to paint.

Don't pick an army based on painting, pick it based on what you want to play. If need be leave it bare while you practice on Reaper Bones minis to get your skills.

Im done with that for now, I think it looks better I think.

>Hey bro, you like painting spines?

I'm more into molecular bonding studs.

I fucking hate those things too but you can at least shave them off.

first and foremost - crop your images. that does not need to be 3 MB, that big, or have all that surround space.

Secondly, and most importantly - you are falling into a bad trap for your Nurgle sculpt, one that many people fall into at the start, but sadly some people never get out of. Nurgle is about disease and decay, given form by the feeling of Despair. that is the easy way to say it.

now, your "gunk" looks just like that - random blobs of stuff. What kind of diseases are you going for? what kind of texture, what sort of growths? Even if you add a "break-out effect" that makes it look like it's pushing out, you really have to be careful right now, because you run the risk of it looking like a pizza when you've painted it.

The best ways of improvement in this is to study what some people do, and avoid what you see others do. Pic related is a great study, as you can see Decay, disease and texture applied quite smoothly. I'm not saying you'll be a master overnight, because that is impossible, but you can improve. Another way, if you've got a strong enough stomach is to google/research various diseases and find "references" on what you want, but again, be careful with this one! not everyone has a strong stomach when it comes to things like that!

I recommend looking up Plaguebones for nice ideas, as well as checking up on Svartmetall's Nurgle tutorial, which is a decent beginner-helping tool
forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?172615-Nurgle-101-(updated-Jul-13-with-custom-Nurgle-Dreadnought-power-claw)

they look good if done well but 9 painters out of 10 do them shitty and have awkward washes that don't shade the recesses of those studs right. this also applies to tiny spike nubs, I'm looking at you dark vengeance terminator power fists

>give lecture about how to post pics
>post a picture for ants

whatever that guy's pic is- would be fine if it wasn't sideways. fucking phoneposters, man

>post a picture for ants
maybe you should open the image in another tab

>whatever that guy's pic is- would be fine if it wasn't sideways. fucking phoneposters, man
you should always strive towards being as good as possible, towards doing your best and to perfection.
If you're always gonna settle on "just fine" you'll never grow with what you do.

Alright, sorry for not cropping, I`ll do it next time.
As for what diseases Im going for, I want it to be a growth, kind of like tumors, but with that moist texture, that things like wet moss have. Not the biggest fan of things "sticking out" from the vechiles, but I may do something like that for my zombies. I was plannning to base it all white, and then wash the "corrupted" places with camoshade, like Duncan did in his Plaguebeares video, and highlight it with some nurgling green, and finish it off with nurgle rot for the pus flowing out.
Thanks for the advice my man.

keep at it, and keep us posted, friend!

sure but you're being autistic. it's the current year, 3MB pics don't trigger anybody but the occasional sperg in these threads. nobody cares.

sideways pics will be annoying every time, however.

>calls someone autistic because of image-size
>precedes to complain about which way the image is turned

I try arguing this once a week at least, the autistic picfags almost seem like a fucking meme by now. If you want to critique file size, resolution, and lighting, to the extent these guys go to, go to the photography board.

Guys I can't decide which province of the Empire I want to paint

Which one do you like the most?

>start painting
>almost immediately run out of the paint I need
FUCK

Yea man I'm with you. Fuck standards! Fuck improving! Lets finger paint the latest GW release and put it on Ebay as Pro painted!

Was it a new pot ? Or did you use up all your old paint?

Because if you used a new pot holy Shit dude

My planned (IE mostly collected and assembled but not yet painted) army will be glorious Altdorf, the Barcelona of Empire provinces.

Obviously not a new pot. I just presumed half a pot of thinned paint would be enough to coat two tanks and two sentinels.

>a pot of thinned paint
>paint thinned in the pot?

a half-filled pot of pre-thinned paint.

Half a pot of paint that is then thinned

We mostly just hate and do not recognize AoS.

Start painting Reaper Bones.

but why

Anyone have any airbrush tutorial pdfs? Please and thank you.

Why what? I just used about half of a pot of paint and then I poured in some thinner so it would be ready to pour into my airbrush.

My first real Green stuff Project, after hours of Video Tutorials and acquiring tools.

A special Authorized Bounty Hunter-conversion for my Infinity-force. It's not clean, but I think I'm getting somewhere. Hope it's already recognizable what it's going to be.

technically can you use paint for airbrushes for regular brushing too?

yes, it'll just be very thin

Working on my first squad of Malefactors (previously loyalist Sigilites) chaos space marine warband. They are one of the chapters that fell to heresy during the Abyssal Crusade and don't have any color scheme/heraldry/lore beyond a footnote on page 19 of the CSM codex, so I came up with my own.

dammit I realized right as soon as I clicked the submit button that the pic wasn't attached

whats the best rim colour for a winter base? A light brown like baneblade or grey? Also that snow is pretty interesting but they changed the name to valhalla blizzard from mournfang snow for no fucking reason, spent 15 mins at the shop looking till we figured it out.

how do i get my johnny in the op collage........

Vallejo air is the best brushing paint I've ever found.

add it yourself and be the one to create the thread

I'm still surprised there is no chaos johnny. I have literally never seen one, but I might eventually get one and paint him up as a night lord.

What's the difference between a wash and a glaze?

a wash pools in the recesses and creates contrast between those and raised areas

a glaze colors everything it touches uniformly

although both can be used either way with the right technique and sometimes people mix the two, so you can do several affects with either

Glazes are ultra thin washes, they're for tinting models. Washes are for mass shading models quickly.

Started painting my Great Unclean One. Just building up the main colours of the flesh for now, still have a few more layers to go until I'll be happy. Then I'll highlight the flesh and go in and pick out all the details.

Been following your updates on this since you first started posting it, It's coming out really well.

>how do i get my johnny in the op collage........

Post a good picture of him here in the thread. I don't think I've missed one yet.

>I'm still surprised there is no chaos johnny. I have literally never seen one

He's not Johnny per se, but there is an old Chaos Renegade model (070366/5, "Displaced Head") with his head set firmly in the middle of his chest that reminds me a lot of him. I suspect it was created by the same sculptor.

>all these headless chaos marines

what the hell

I recognise that face!

youtube.com/watch?v=h61QG4s0I3U

I wasn't a huge fan when I saw it without paint but now I am 100% on board, this thing is turning out absolutely fucking creepy and very nurglish. Bravo m'lad.

gosh that's great

good jezus user, fucking perfect!

Blanchitsu / 10

>all these headless chaos marines
>what the hell

In the First Edition roolz, there were very complex charts and tables for Chaos Mutations. Most of what was in Realms of Chaos was slanted towards WHFB, but Rogue Trader had several pages dedicated to it specifically for WH40K. There were tentacle-stalk eyes, head of a Plaguebearer, headless, faceless ... all sorts of mutations, some of which had in-game effects.

I really like the expression on his face. That tired smile.

Thanks all, a long way to go though, he needs a lot of properly targeted shading now and so much neatening up.

Just finished painting the Necron Overlord I got my brother for his birthday. Really enjoyed getting the chance to paint a Necron/fully metallic miniature.

>Just finished painting the Necron Overlord I got my brother for his birthday. Really enjoyed getting the chance to paint a Necron/fully metallic miniature.
Soo...didn't you kind of buy a present for yourself then?
Or does your brother simply not paint?

Dunno, just seems a little odd. Never got the appeal of getting into the hobby if you have no inclination to hobby (as in the verb).

Either way, came out nice. Could use a highlight on the metals to sharpen it up a bit maybe.

He's a huge DoW fan and loves Necrons but doesn't play the tabletop nor paint so I figured might as well get him one and do the painting for him after he assembled it.

i posted him like a week(?) ago, didnt have a backpack yet tho
ill finish that up and post it later

We're all sculptors now...

>Hope it's already recognizable what it's going to be.
Why does he wear the mask?

Nice.

It'll be Soldier 76 from Overwatch. What did you think it was gonna be?

He probably was hoping for a big guy.

Love the sculpt, though. Can't wait to see progress.

Nice work, user.

...

No, most people care about 3mb fucking photos that shouldn't be any more than a few hundred KB.

Its just that no matter how man times to you tell people now one fucking listens.

Holy fuck, I think my brain imploded when I wrote that. Apologies, but I think you get the idea.

Anyone here work on bases?

Are you gonna be okay, user?

nice base mate! It looks natural

I disagree, it looks like two or three different basing materials all just ponked on the base with no real unity.

That things face is honestly unnerving.

10/10

Amazing job, too! Love the overall aesthetic with the base with the piece of xenos armor on the ground.

Thanks, anons. The messiness is pretty new territory for me.

It is. How do you do bases, user?

not bad

I'm thinking about painting my Death Company's black armor with a base of Abaddon Black, a drybrush of Dawnstone, then a wash of Nuln Oil. Good idea or bad idea?
Also, should I use Nuln Oil or Nuln Oil Gloss? I've heard that Nuln Oil Gloss can make some really nice looking Power Armor, but I've yet to see any actual pictures of it.

Any advice for me?

That's a noice Beakie you got there m80

in my experience drybrushing black is a bad idea, it's just too messy especially on marines which have subtle lines and curved surfaces. just follow the edges with the tip of a small brush. I'd use something darker than dawnstone either eshin/mechanicus grey or go blue with the Fang.

>just follow the edges with the tip of a small brush.
I'm not I can it without making my guy look like one of those Tron looking abominations like pic related. I just don't have the skill with the brush yet to get those thin lines, even doing the Duncan trick where you hit it with the side of the brush.

>I just don't have the skill with the brush yet to get those thin lines,
And if you don't practice it, you never will.

Secured day off work, spending it working on my BB table! Since this pic, the table was sanded. The foldable BB pitch is on there for scale and as a guide.

I'd rather practice on the metal models I already have since they're so much easier to strip than on the plastic models that are much more fragile. Don't be mistaken, I'm still practicing and I'm making decent progress, but I'm still not confident (or in my own opinion skilled enough) enough yet to try my hand on a model I can't easy strip if I fuck it up.

Well the trick is to not go overboard with it like that pic. You don't need to do EVERY hard edge, just enough to get the highlight. You might be using a brush that's too big for the job if your edge highlights are too thick.

>still new to the game
>buy box of incubi to get a proper escort squad for my archon
>it's finecast
>okay, get some super glue
>box arrives
>mold lines fucking everywhere
>details like sashes are completely melded to the body
>undersides of arms are formless blobs
Good lord, are finecast models always this ugly?

Found some cool stone pattern plasticard at my local model shop I'm using for the dugouts. Next step is to add some details (Read: casualties) to the pitch and other doodads. That and cover stone walls where it meets the foam.

Goodness gracious that shit is disgusting.

pretty much

For the most part, sadly. I don't know why they even thought Finecast was a good idea or why they're still selling it but it's fucking awful. I ended up clipping out one of my Juggernaut's teeth on my Khorne Lord because there was just so much flash inside his damn mouth.

I heard their first prints were even worse actually - literal bubbles all over the miniatures and even more flash and mold lines than what we see now.

You always know when a Nurgle model is done well when it makes you wanna throw up just looking at it.

Update 1/2

2/2

motherfucker. I like the idea of having some melee escorts for my archon(who I kitbashed from a dark elf) and I'm still pretty shitty at painting...why is it now that now I'm getting even more handicapping?

Any chance you could use a cleaner backdrop? It's a bit hard to see with the glare and paint streaks. Looks nice, though.

if you've got more money than sense consider looking on ebay for the metal ones instead of the finecrap

I will buy that ... sell it to me

I don't.

I have recently come into 17 kroot, bringing me to a total of 24.

I want to convert one into a Culexus assassin, but that still leaves far more than I'll ever want to field.

What should I do with the rest? I'm thinking maybe turning them into an auxiliary Pathfinder squad?

I am considering to buy a box of Dark Eldar Incubi, I don't play the game and just paint so I just want them because they look cool.

But I am deeply discouraged by the fact that they are finecast. I wanted to reach out to other people who have bought these themselves to ask about the experience of working with them. And maybe to see some pictures of the models if any of you have any on hand.

This better?

The more I see your updates on this the more I wish I could buy some. I don't even play AdMech but cyborg horses just look so fucking cool. I might have to do something similar for my KDK one day.

I'm using Balthasar Gold as the base for my Fire warriors and XV-08's but I can't find a good colour for highlighting
Most either don't stand out at all or just dont mesh well
Which colour would do well for that?

Or do you take commissions?
