This game is an AU for Warcraft. We will be starting at the beginning with the First War between the Orc and Humans of Stormwind. Players will create characters and be placed in charge of a province by their faction leader. They will be able to build armies, develop their province and make war upon their enemies.

Turns will be a week long, with orders due on Friday the results of which will be written into small stories or new posts. The rest of the week is mostly roleplaying as your character and interact with everyone else.

We currently have 2 players on each side and are hoping to get enough for a 4 v 4. This round will be a sort of beta round to test all the mechanics and then we will eventually include all nations across Azeroth as we move into Warcraft 2 and 3 territories.

Hear me out , basically I have a 2 week break from work and want to play a couple of one-shots (or 2 sessions campaigns) of different games, as said above I'm a noob, never played before since nobody plays ttrpgs in my area, but I'm fairly familiar with DnD 5e and Shadowrun, and vaguely know the rules for Stars without numbers and Apocalypse/Dungeon world (Oh and I remember some stuff from maid RPG too), and I'm willing to learn some new systems as long as it's not too complicated... So, since I want to play at least 2 or 3 one-shots, first I'll need 1 or 2 GMs (don't wanna put too much on just 1 GM) and players for each game/session. Also if you couldn't already tell, English isn't my first language, I'm fluent in it but have a strong accent, so there's that too...

How good is playing by text? I've had people constantly tell me text is shit because it's too slow.

It's slow, especially if you have people in the group that are inexperienced. I have horror story from both side of the GM screen on this matter.

I've been in a game of Fellowship RPG before, where one of the member, despite the type of game, refuses to type for longer than one single sentence, doing so only when forced to, will not seek the spotlight at all.

And then I've GM'd a game where the players were so out of it, they require prompting to notice that their turn is coming up. That's fine, except that they also require me to re-explain the layout of the battle.

... On speech-based game, however, I've also had issue with the game being slow. I was in a voice game, where one of the other people will frequently require the GM or us to repeat stuff because he "wasn't paying attention". Meanwhile, there's another character that constantly simulates gross eating sounds, salivating all over the voice channel.

In reality, it's fine. People can and did played by text, and you shouldn't be dissuaded by other people's incompetence. Playing by text allows you to "pre-plan" your action, typing it out when other people have the spotlight, editing and changing on the spot when its your turn. You are also more likely to pay attention to detail. Lastly, there's much less issue with ESL's and people that just aren't able to speak clearly.

This is why I like text IC and voice OOC. You get all the benefits of both, and they tend to cancel out each other's downsides. Some people can't talk and type at the same time which is understandable, but if you can focus on both it can really improve the experience.

In person is obviously the best. Video is clunky, especially because of camera quality. Voice is ok but because Veeky Forums tends to attract nervous people, it can get annoying with all of the stuttering. Text is best for being clear in what your intentions are, but it can be extremely slow. I've been in a number of Veeky Forums groups and almost every one has a new person (not a bad thing, but they take forever in text), a chronic AFKer, or an extremely slow typer.

Just want some political intrigue and enjoy the setting as well as lore. Always get told to just play L5R but never cared much for a katana. So we'll bump the thread and see if I have anyone interested in running a game, though I doubt I can run a decent game myself rotating GM isn't such a bad idea for the way the system works. Not counting all the intrigue.

Try Shadownet on Reddit. It's a pretty friendly community, active, and the games are decent enough from what I've seen. Also, I like the idea of a persistent world where all of the players affect one another.

The only critique I have is that there aren't quite enough GM's for the player demand, but y'know, be the change you want to see in the world. Maybe someone will go and GM there.

Thanks for the advice, I'm I heard of it before but never bothered to check it out, will give it a look. I guess that takes care of a session of Shadowrun but I still would like to play other systems in one-shot format, between work and uni I don't have that much free time that's why I'm trying to cram as many games in that 2 week window as I can
