How to pick warmahorde army ? Is there any summary of them, pros and cons ?
Kayden Anderson
Pick one you like the look of. Bam, done. If you try to think too much about decisions like this you'll only end up not enjoying the end result. Better to do it on a whim.
Mason Williams
has a point, whichever speaks to you at a glance is the way to go. The different factions have different strengths and focuses, but how you actually play changes entirely based on which caster you choose from anyway so there's plenty of wiggle room. Just read the faction intros at battlecollege dot org for anything more specific
Juan Anderson
#1 Don't listen to the tournament fags. If you don't intend to jump into hyper-competitive right from the start, every faction is fine to start out with.
Kevin Sanders
Listen to It's the only way. Read the fluff, look at the models, and start assembling and HAVE FUN
Thomas Young
Is there a place to find the different colour schemes, similar to something like the War Chambers in AoS or the Adeptus Astartes chapters?
Noah Taylor
the Mark II books for each army have the 'studio approved' schemes - I don't know of anywhere else they are lying around. Maybe in the NQs linked in the OP as well.
Cameron Green
I think it was the Apotheosis book from mk1 that included a canon alternate color scheme for each faction, but otherwise they just leave it to the players to come up with their own
Josiah Cruz
I'm an old Legion newbie, and I'm a big Abby fan. I only got a few games in ever and that was a long time ago, like 5 years. My old metal models fell apart over the years and its proven fucking impossible to reassemble. Like, pic related literally snapped my fucking bit trying to drill into it. My other ones are in the same boat, but thankfully I didn't have much, just the Scythean, Typhus, and an Angelious plus a few solos for Abby1 theme list. I also have an old metal battlebox, too.
Question for you folks. I don't know if this shit is even worth putting back together. Should I just get the new battlebox and essentially start fresh?
Gavin Long
From a tourneyfag, pick what you like the looks of best, ask around what decent lists look like for that faction, and start in that direction. External balance (i.e., balance between factions) is pretty good right now. Internal balance (i.e., balance of models within a faction) is wildly different between factions, so it's worth checking to see if the stuff you really want to play within a specific faction is good before investing in it.
Everything's playable right now. If you're the kind of person who *has* to win, avoid Trolls and Cryx. Both are, honestly, playable, but have a lot of players right now bitter because neither are world-beaters.
Protectorate of Menoth and Retribution of Scyrah are pretty much at the top of the list in terms of competitive models: As a faction they're in line with the top factions, but have more *options* than the rest of the factions. Were I starting from scratch, I'd pick one of them for that (the amount of options, not so much the power level), but I like the aesthetics of both factions.
Mostly, pick what you're interested in seeing on the field. The balance across the game is pretty good right now.
Cameron Adams
You'll be fine with some green stuff/expoxy putty to fill in the gaps. You could also use some acetone based nail polish remover first to cleanse any dried on glue that might be affecting your fits.
That and the new battlebox is wildly different from the old on barring some Shredders.
Leo Myers
It's more that it won't even stay together, but yea, I'll try some acetone I guess.
Jace Sullivan
Also, how is the new box? Never thought to use a sea oh or Nephs back when I played.
Kayden Walker
Weird.
Kryssa is a pretty boring caster and you probably won't ever use her since the things she wants to do can be better.
Shredders are pretty lackluster in MKIII. Losing Rapid and Tenacity were bad enough, but they brought back the old rule where if they frenzy they must attack other Shredders. Flank could be nice in some situations, but 99% of the time I'd rather use those points elsewhere.
Neraph is cheap and flying is nice, but it's pillowfisted as fuck which will make battlebox games super hard for you without Kryssa's feat up. Fyanna 2 can use them pretty well since her +3 damage/-1 def spell can help you trade up points wise on most things that aren't packing shitloads of armor.
The Boltthrower has an amazing animus and is solid enough in combat, though outside of Lylyths you'll probably want to spend points elsewhere.
Xavier Gray
Post what you're working on/what you've finished recently
Michael Thompson
Got this Seraph conversion at my new LGS during a swap meet. Still needs highlights and to be formally glued onto his rock.
Also juggling around both versions of Thags, Wrongeye and Snapjaw, and Coven.
Leo Butler
Hrm. The only casters I have are Lylyth 1 and Abby 1, plus Kryssa if/when I get the new box. I want Abby2, and I've always wanted B&B because of how unique and interesting she is, though I did notice that Belph lost a few immunities. Fayanna and Rhys seems interesting, too. Hell, most of the casters seem interesting, which is what drew me to them LoE in the first place, but I'm likely to get Abby2 and B&B sooner rather than later if it matters.
Eli Brown
I see those Tyranid parts you cheeky bastard
Justin Fisher
The mk3 books, the "command" books, have an actually decent painting section. They have the canon schemes, a neat alt scheme and a couple pages devoted to just fan submissions.
Angel Johnson
I originally didn't notice until I started look up close and saw the chitin up close while painting.
Not that I mind really. I already snagged some Carnifex arms off of ebay and made them into Scythean claws so I could use my battlebox Carny torso, though this was back in MK2 when Scytheans severely outclassed Carniveans.
Nicholas Price
my friend is getting into legion. The Shredders actually looked darn neat provided you had them escort separate things. Stick one with Neraph and one with Kryssa or the thrower.
The issue is that I play Khador and am having trouble trying to have decent low point games with him, and it just doesn't seem fair really. Juggernauts are gross.
Carson Butler

yeah cheers, its autumn scrub from galeforce9, i was fortunate enough to pick up best painted against some really nice armies at that event and the army performed pretty well too.

anyone know where I can get Z-brush? i want to apply for the PP modeling position but my entire portfolio is in Maya
Ayden Gutierrez
Are 3/4" magnets too big for jacks?
Angel Morgan
So, final verdict on the GRYMKINZ?
Angel Wilson
Yeah, the Battleboxes seem even more uneven in MK3 in some cases. Trolls and Legion both got very weak Battleboxes. It seems like the Legion one is more focused on trying to assassinate with Karyssa but, given her beast loadout, she can't kill a Khador jack to save her life.
Christopher Peterson
models look really cool, the no feat but strong passive idea is interesting, but other than that, not too sure.
Henry Hernandez
no rules are out yet but there is potential to be very interesting
hollowmen are insane on recursion and if you can go over 10 unit members they will be very good
Luke Ortiz
They seem fine. Hopefully there is more to them we're not seeing (more units and beasts hopefully) but they are fine I guess.
They just make me wish they had just made Cepalyx a Hordes faction though. I feel like it was such a waste to make them a Merc, stand alone, add on faction who use "living Warjacks" (I.E. what we call Warbeasts).
Otherwise, I think they're alright. Models look kind of cool for the most part and I like their connection to the Old Witch. I probably won't play them though.
Christian Hernandez
As a relative newbie, I'm kinda looking forward to them because they look unique if nothing else. Considering the lack of love CoC has apparently gotten, I'd be leery on them being my main faction, but by then a side faction might be cool.
Noah Gomez
aww cheers lad
Jacob Torres
Why the fuck do people on ebay consistently charge more than MSRP for shit? Are they retarded or something? I went to look for a cheap battlebox and I was met with $45+ boxes BEFORE shipping.
Connor Gonzalez
Most people on ebay are retarded, including the people who actually buy for those prices. What's worse tho is when the sellers are dicks about it, I tried to negotiate on a rahn a guy was selling last week and the faggot only dropped his price 20 cents after 3 counter offers. He was trying to sell it at 60%msrp to start so nty.
Honestly it's just a lot less of a hassle to buy through fb groups
Juan Ramirez
The best I've been able to find is $35 free shipping even on Amazon, which isn't terrible, I guess. Sadly, I don't have FB, so that doesn't help me.
Easton Smith
what about dgi? any order over 50 is free shipping right? just get the bb and a heavy kit it you're starting out
Dylan Price
Amazon is actually slightly cheaper with free shipping, and about the same without.
Grayson Butler
Also, they're the same price as TheWarStore, which also has free shipping over $60 and free dice at $100 apparently. Would Bethayne or Abby2 a better addition to: Battlegroup Heavy kit Shepherd Forsaken
Gavin Martinez
Probably Abby2.
Bethayne is cool but she wants to run more infantry for her buffs and Feat. Abby2 cranks beasts up to 11 and that is what you have most of right now.
Benjamin Thompson
Makes sense. How does she play compared to Abby1? I played a few games with her many years ago with her T4, and those 5 games are honestly my only experience with WMH.
Eli Hernandez
potato tier, but here are some khador I'm working on for our first journeymen league.
Aaron Thompson
...
Connor Smith
she's head shoulders and wings over abby1. she dials all of our beasts to 11
Tyler Peterson
The new command books have different schemes
Samuel Rodriguez
If he was selling at 60% of msrp what is the problem exactly?
Logan Harris
>Both are, honestly, playable, but have a lot of players right now bitter because neither are world-beaters.
As a Cryx player who has never been to a tournament, doesn't use deathclocks, and just plays casual pick-up games against a handful of other casual players, it isn't just that. It feels like Cryx lost a lot of flavour in the transition to Mk3. A lot of our cool abilities, while definitely overpowered, were outright dropped instead of being trimmed back to a reasonable level. It's quite frustrating to see my friends talking about ideas they've had and things they want to try, while the only really special abilities Cryx has any more are lackluster recursion, debuffs (which bring most of our units up from poor to average) and terrain avoidance.
Jackson Lopez
Finished my first miniature yesterday. Gotta improve on some things, but I`m happy with it.
Also I`m building a casual list, with the models I like.
What do you guys think? The idea is that the cavalry will run the battlefield while the Hurricane like a big siege weapon will bring thunder from the skies. Also picking Brickhouse, because as a personal rule I believe every caster should bring his characters jack on the table.
Logan Peterson
>the problem is the guy trying to negotiate down a single model from 60% MSRP is retarded
At least it fits the theme, unlike the 'Winter guard' all jack lists being planned before the eratta.
Michael Campbell
List looks good. If you need some more space for something else later you can change one of the lances units to min.
If it were my list, I'd swap arlan with a free journeyman warcaster, downgrade one Lance unit to min, and put a firefly on junior.
Storm lances are really good, but remember you're not playing with a lot of models. If you jack your positioning up and lose half a unit too early you may be in trouble. Also, if you trade a heavy down early or over commit the colossal it'll be a bad time.
Also, pathfinder. Not a lot of good ways to get it in storm division, and dudes with inhospitable ground or some kind of rough terrain generation (khador) will give you a lot of trouble.
Nemo 3 is also excellent in storm division. After you have that stuff figured out you can pick him up with dynamo.
Aiden Brown
It sure does fit the theme, like every other Cygnar list, which is always Storm Division and 2x Lances + Laddermore
Nolan Thomas
Not having an Arcane Shield hurts. And Brickhouse is kinda crap. Other than that it's a solid list.
Aaron Edwards
I'm getting closer to a fully painted Thyra list. She's some of the most fun I've had in MK3
Robert Moore
>Implying that Cryx wasn't kneecapped and gutted of their faction identity at the onset of MK 3. >Implying that an infantry faction in a meta where the ability to trivially remove infantry from range (even ones with stealth) is rife.
Am I a bitter Cryx player? Yes. Am I bitter because I can't beat everyone? no- I win about the same amount of games as I did before. I'm bitter because the faction isn't fun to play anymore.
Cryx was said, during the Privateer Press Insider article series on faction identities, to be an infantry-heavy faction with tons of shitty dudes backed up with deadly magic. Cryx right now is elite units of Satyxis backed up by some mediocre casters with mediocre spells and feats. There are some exceptions, but by and large the faction does not work as advertised or intended.
Other factions do infantry better, other factions do magic better, and now that Grymkin are getting recursion as a mechanic (and CoC already has it as well) we don't even have that to lean on.
Xavier Flores
Awesome. I like the color scheme
Eli Nguyen
She's awesome, but tfw you forget your Gates of Death move..
Samuel Phillips
Thank you very much. I'm going for a high visibility tabletop scheme over a super detailed one, just so I can get everything done and it looks alright on the table.
Elijah Gomez
These photos are a little dark, I'll have to redo them sometime.
Jaxson Harris
Good stuff my dude
Brandon Gutierrez
hey everyone, Just got my Cephelyx stuff in, I'm curious though, what is considered the best monstrosities to take with the casters, and how often do you find yourself deviating from the Mind benders/ slavers in favor of other mercs stuff?
Chase Myers
TheWarStore doesn't have free shipping for orders over $60. If it did, I'd order from them more often.
Owen Hill
Just traded my friend a Mammoth for a bunch of Cryx. Lot of troops and mk2 and 3 battle boxes, but those are my only 2 warcasters.
Sad to read their identity and abilities kind of got unfocused in transition to mk3. At least I really like Satyxis.
My group isn't too competitive but they do like their range game, should I maybe try out Witch Coven to give myself a chance?
Mason Evans
>Wardens Wardens are solely take for Shield Guard, despite having other strengths (increased Headbutt and Slam damage, better headbutts and slams and two hands with strength 12 to throw shit with).
Cognifex gets more value out of Wardens, because during his Feat turn, they actually do respectable damage and Thexus already has Sacrifical Pawn: Monstrosity, making Shield Guard redundant.
>Subduers Subduers are the least popular of the Montrosities and you can easily see why; They don't hit as hard as Wreckers (missing an initial) and don't offer the defensive capabilities of the Warden. Subduers also have to rely on their awful RAT to hit with the gun to make it work.
What Subduers offer, is important threat-extension. While Thexus doesn't need it (he can add +4 to your threat distance between his feat and Telekinesis), Cognifex likes them. Not many Cephalyx players use Subduers, but I personally think one of them perfectly playable and if only to allow you to extend your predictable 13" charge range by 1". The knockdown can also help your other beasts to hit easier, since Cognifex doesn't have a MAT fixer.
to be continued....
Isaiah Mitchell
10-4, I look forward to reading more when I return.
Jayden Allen
...
>Wreckers And here we are: The Wrecker is the Cephalyx workhorse and the Monstrosity you want to spam. Wreckers are fantastic against infantry (thanks to thresher), have good natural range (10" charges) and with support of an Agitator, easily one-round most Heavies in the game. Your opponent also has to consider beat-back when trying to stay outside of your range.
Cognifex makes Wreckers hit incredibly hard (in combination with Agigators they are capable of doing 39 damage on average to an ARM 20 heavy) and extends their threat range with his Feat by 3", while also giving them Path finder. However, Cognifex does nothing to help them hit (MAT 5+2 is good enough, but you might need to consider boosting against nimble DEF 14 warbeasts)
Thexus like Wreckers as his only Heavies, because he can buy two while spending the rest of his points on Infantry. In terms of support, he offers free charges and can extend their threat by 2" with Telekinesis, while also allowing you to hit easier (simply place the enemy model with it's back towards you). He can also heal them more focus efficiently than Cognifex, however doesn't have a way of granting them Pathfinder.
In terms of merc-units, Kayazy Eliminators are always solid. You can either use them to reliably cut your Beasts for Focus or simply kill the Dominator in the first turn to have a reliable disruption unit for the rest of the game.
Nyss Hunters go well with Cognifex, since they give him reliable hitting power and are almost impossible to hit under Blur.
Croe's Cutthroats are scary under Thexus, since he allows them to get easy boosted backstrikes off with the crossbows and reposition out of danger.
Lady Aiyana & Master Holt are a great choice if you just need more damage.
Keep in mind that the Theme got buffed; You can now get free Overlords from Dominator units too, making them appeasing options.
Jose Turner
neat! thanks for the write up.
Currently I've got: Both the warcasters 2x wreckers 1x warden 1x subduer 2x mindslaver units 2x mindbender units 2x agonizers 3x Dominators 1x unit of overlords
Mercs side I've got 1x unit of eliminators 1x unit of steal head riflemen, halberdiers and cavalry 1x unit of thorn mages
Bentley Anderson
thoughts on grymkin?
Robert Murphy
Looks like a bunch of malifaux models. Right down to the Gender swapped version of the dreamer.
Blake Ramirez
They're cool. I'll be beta testing them a bunch in March and will likely pick them up at LNL.
Can't be much worse or boring as Trolls right now at least
Samuel Roberts
you think a child that dreams up nightmares made flesh is a new idea? like malifeux came up with that idea?
Matthew Lee
of all the viable and cool forces they could have brought from the fluff it's a cooky Halloween faction
Meh, I've seen, I'm sure I'll see it again in basically any game out there
Hudson Rivera
Just let the haters rage. They have to shit on something and this is just the next thing.
Eventually something else will come along and they'll shit on that
David Edwards
I haven't played a game of mk3 yet.
Would someone mind giving me a quick gestalt on the changes and status of Cryx_?
Owen Brooks
No I'm saying that Malifaux did the Victorian blond kid with a nightmare creature buddy who delights in the torment of others first. Honestly if they'd have changed her design a little bit to where parallels couldn't be drawn between her and either the Dreamer from malifaux or Annie from league I'd be just fine with her, but the faction just looks all round like someone has been looking in the neverborn sections of Malifaux.
Andrew Bell
Is there any truth to the 'Trollbloods are a light 'Beast and ranged faction' or is it just shitposting? I've never gotten involved with the game but have watched it for some time, and the Trolls look really cool as a faction. In particular, I love the look of their infantry, gargantuans, and some of the lighter Trolls. I have no real love for any of the Dires or their ranged infantry.
I've heard that MkIII is both horrible for infantry, heavily ARM-skewed, and particularly shitty for Trolls. Is this just senseless bitching or will I have a bad time if I play infantry-heavy?
In particular, I love the models for Grissel and Madrak3, plus Kriel Warriors. Is this a viable start to the army and how do I go about cracking ARM besides spamming Maulers?
Zachary Taylor
...
Cameron Lopez
So, there's some truth to what you're talking about, but you also need to take it with a grain of salt.
For one thing, we're talking about competitive players bitching about competitive level games. Think of it like two race car drivers bitching about the specific tuning of an engine. Does it matter? Yes. Does it matter to you? No, and if you want to be heavily competitive, not for a while anyways.
Despite what people may tell you, player skill is still a huge factor in this game. Bad lists can beat good lists if one player knows what he's doing, and there's no autopilot good lists out there.
I can't give you the big indepth stuff about Trolls, sorry to say.
The whole :light warbeast and ranged faction" is a meme, but not a totally false one. They can absolutely do that style of play, but Trolls are more about stacking buffs and synergy between their units.
John Williams
Personally I'm not sure we are a light beast faction, seeing as a good portion of them suck.
You'll find a mauler or mountain king in just about every list, and at least 1 bomber in most of them too. Only reason I don't have 2 bombers in my Gunn list is because I'm 1 point off, so I use Dozer and Smigg, which have proven themselves useful enough.
Of course I would say the faction is ranged because I use ranged units pretty much exclusively except for the mauler and krielstone. A lot of our melee options are, at the very least, cool looking, and if you aren't in tournaments then you should be fine with them.
Hell, I've been using Scouts to some amount of success in casual games. People don't see them often enough to know what to do about them.
Liam Green
so I tore the arms off the Wolves of Orboros I got from my buddy in a trade before MK3 and started finaggling the crossbows he thankfully kept onto them.
Not dead at all. Just no longer a no-brainer. You actually think about how to play her and what to play with her now.
And I get why such a team wouldn't want to do so on short term.
Mason Bell
>Is there any truth to the 'Trollbloods are a light 'Beast and ranged faction' or is it just shitposting?
It was true in Mk2 but now Troll lights suck and Troll shooting is laughably ineffective.
Justin Myers
Well shit. I'll keep that in mind in the future.
Leo Foster
Circle casters at the ATC:
Circle Orboros 12 Wurmwood, Tree of Fate 8 Kaya the Wildheart 3 Mohsar the Desertwalker 2 Baldur the Stonesoul 2 Krueger the Stormlord 2 Kromac the Ravenous 2 Kaya the Moonhunter 2 Bradigus Thorle the Runecarver 1 Krueger the Stormwrath 1 Baldur the Stonecleaver 1
Probably. WoO still feel kinda niche, only really useful if you need some flak to screen with, to Ambush with the new theme, or maybe to give Morraig flank. Reeves are fantastic now though, it feels like Circle's got a bit of a ranged game all the sudden.
Looking through the lists, I don't think I saw a single 2na
Owen Wood
>Looking through the lists, I don't think I saw a single 2na Like I said. She actually requires thought and testing now. Something you can't really do that much in
Joseph Hill
Conflictanon here.
That's beautiful; I'm tempted to set up automatic exports to that format.
Ryder Perry
I just found it amusing there was a team called 2na and Spam and that they were likely going to play the list, until the errata happened.
Aiden Ramirez
Yea. If you spend $100, you also get faction dice if you note which faction in their text box. I'm tempted to put that legion order though, which will give me quite a few Heavies.
