As much as i love warhammer and the general kickass nature of the entities that inhabit the 40k universe (space marines, SOB, Chaos, ect..) I wish there was a larger diversity of 40k art
90% of 40k art is either of some epic battle or [insert your favorite factions here] kicking some serious ass.
Only a small portion of 40k art is meant to invoke feels, But it is these pieces, like pic related, that are my favorite pieces of 40k art, they remind you that even though the universe is filled with epic stories of insane heroism, it is also filled with even more stories of sorrow and pain.
will be doing a very small dump since these pics are generally hard to find, hope some of you can contribute
this one is pretty common but thought i would include it anyways

Old 1d4chan material but still fresh.
Ran an encounter in my Only War game based on this image where the locals in the recently recaptured city had built a shrine to the 'fallen angel' that had died protecting them. The PCs' orders were to investigate and retrieve the helm so that command could return it to the chapter, but they ultimately decided to report that they couldn't find it because it was proving essential for civilian morale.

Perhaps not the best exemple, but I've always loved the eldar wraiths and all that come with them. That one bit of fluff in the Iyanden supplement, about the soul of an eldar mother brought back to defend the craftworld was a gem...

You know, I get these are feels pictures, but why pick krieg? Like half of these are krieg, but they don't mourn the dead or put helmets on crosses (all good equipment from the dead is cleaned, repaired, and redistributed back), literally any other IG regiment would do better instead...

what happens if a xeno believes in the emperor and then dies? specifically an eldar?
I know humans are not conscious in the warp and those faithefull to the emperor will simply be absorbed and protected by him opon death.
would the same happen to a eldar? eldar are concious in the warp, would one that believes in the emperor be saved by him?
am confused.
Gavin Jenkins
Wait, does the emperor canonically provide spiritual protection? I always thought that was more force of will/belief than actual emprah protection.

Technically speaking, the Emperor COULD have an impact in the warp creating a barrier portion for those that believe in him, and due to the apparent nature of Living Saints (Able to be resurrected even after extended periods of dead) it is possible that he could shelter the souls of loyalists.
The big question for xenos, however, would be if the Emperor would have a stronger pull on the Eldar's soul than Slaanesh, which IS possible.
For all we know, the souls from the failed Ynnead gambit could have flown straight into the Emperor's arms, not that that's actually going to happen in canon.

basically when a human dies in 40k 1 of three things will happen
either 1.) you believed in the emperor and will be absorbed by his pyschic presence in the warp, while you become a part of him, you also are saved from the savages of the warp
2.) you dont believe in any god, your sould will wander the warp aimlessly, unaware of its surroundings
3.) you believed in some chaos lord, and you are now their plaything.

18 awoke in a cold sweat. He breathed hard and ragged. Running his prosthetic arm through his hair. He was wet, just like the dream but this was only sweat. Not rain. But then he felt wet elsewhere. Somewhere he thought long dry in his eyes. He still felt the weight of the body. HER body. He still saw everything so vividly. All their bodies, but her's was the most real. Her right blown off from a Renegade's grenade. Her brown eyes starring at him through the lens as she breathed her last. The guilt and shame of past lives lost hit him 10 fold. He would see to it. That should she would live even if it meant his own death. The life of a hopeful spark. The life of Sister Hana

because they're a small sect of elite guardsmen that women would not be physically capable of joining. Sure there are female cadians and female guard from other worlds that have trillions of soldiers. but there wouldn't be female Iron guard or women in any other elite guard regiments.

That being said they are conditioned not to fear death or to think of it as a bad thing, so a grieving krieger is kin of off.

There's something really emotive about the people who're so faceless that nobody notices them dying noticing their comrades have died. They might not mourn, sure, but they're human. They notice, and their stoicism despite that makes it more tragic.

>the only disgusting thing in this picture is the commissar appointing a subordinate to do his job.
There is merit in making the commander the one to deal out the punishment. It can help prevent an "Us-vs-The Commissar" mentality, and reinforce the idea that though they may be from the same world, their CO is still a representative of the Imperium of Man and will act as such.
It could also be a test for the commander, ensuring that the CO has the nerve to police his own men should he need to.
Brayden Garcia
As a guardsmen would it be heresy to melt down that gold and keep it? Cause I could use some gold rings for trading with locals for beer.

>I love how the dude who literally has a flayed human face decorating his armor is still willing to comfort his friend
Well, in the real world, millions upon millions of people are willing to walk around bearing icons depicting an instrument of brutal and almost inhuman torture, and yet carry on completely normal conversations and even act with kindness and generosity towards others with utmost sincerity.
This isn't fedora - I'm a Methodist personally who wears a cross ring every day that I got for my Confirmation. I'm just saying that perspective and the importance of symbolism are very important when talking about human beings
Dylan Watson
Eh, no matter how hard you try, it's still pretty hard to permanently override human programming. We are programmed to fear death and mourn those who die, so it's not infeasible that he could have moments where his biology comes through (if only for a brief moment, and it's kept completely in check).

If anything, it might enhance those feelings.
Tyler Anderson
They're little kids and puppies mixed in a huge, overly muscular package. They don't really understand what's going on, they break things without meaning to and are upset when that happens, and they're literally too innocent to understand what death really is so when they get hurt or die it does nothing but tear your heart to shreds.
Cooper Hernandez
the story that goes with that image made me cry the first time i read it and every other time too
An Eldar would never be retarded enough to worship a dead human when their own Gods still live. All human souls, except psykers, are dissolved in the warp. The warp burns with a heat too great for them to exist, it's like throwing a piece of paper in a fire. All Eldar souls, and human/other psykers, are tortured unless they give themselves over to the protection of the Chaos Gods. Psyker souls are too strong to be dissolved but too weak to defend against Chaos. The emperor protects no one.
Joseph Bell
Heresy and lies. The Emperor protects. As proof I cite Imperial Glory. It ends with the dead guardsmen being called to the Emperor's side.

That section was like the "make a wish foundation" sure you made happy a kid once. They are still going to die a slow and horrible death, while their families see the joy of their lifes slowly but surely leave this world.
That section and FoC is like that, a one time moment of joy, but then you notice the reallity is still the same, your army will never get an update.
Aiden Hernandez
GW is doing the same things that killed fantasy, they didn't learn.
When only a couple of factions get support, there is nothing new to buy, points cost get lower making armies bigger and bigger, no balance or quality control, advancing the story with no winners or losers. Etc etc etc.
Lucas Walker
