Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. Kickstarter is happening NOW we are kicking ass baby!

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

MEGA folder containing current version of the game and all supplementary materials.
Note that the latest version of the game is v1.9.9 but with additional supplements. It's NOT what's currently on Opaque's website, because Jimmy is Jimmy.

Here's a wiki detailing SoS's fantasy setting, getting filled up bit by bit as Jimmy reveals more details:

We also have a Discord now, at discord.gg/zzTq7Xw
And a Rediit: reddit.com/r/SongofSwordsRPG/

There's also a roll20 room where new players are encouraged to try the rules, test new rules, and find game breaking issues: app.roll20.net/join/346755/hRKd4w
If you're looking to learn, post here in the thread. We also play Guy Windsor's card game Audatia in the room.

DROPPED

battle recaps when?

That's nice.

Why?

I hate the format and it loads like ass sometimes.

Consider rustling Jimmy for that

Are there any rules for skirmishes? At least something to keep track of a unit's morale?

I tend to do so narratively.

That's what I was going to do, just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook some skill test or something in the rulebook

Not yet but we can hold hands and make them together

Can we just hold hands instead?

Sure, if you don't mind perverted boy like me

You can't just hold hands and not do something productive.

Well, I draw maps sometimes

>Song of Swords doesn't have skirmish rules, mass combat, naval rules, fortress/castle design and siege rules, economic systems beyond the very most basic, or even social/political rules
>Jimmy and the boys are all talking about adventure paths, magic compendiums and monster manuals
>not a whisper of a lord and liege type book
It's like they have no idea what niche they've carved out for themselves.

>It's like they have no idea what niche they've carved out for themselves.
You have to understand Jimmy and his boys are Pathfinder players.

Stances never

Song of Sword was a game made so you can knock people prone then stab them in the dick

Well we know the ship system for Balled was being played with, they can probably turn that around when it 's done by nerfing the guns a bit.

maybe that's the secret stretch goal .v

I want a castle design system so I can make my master /comfy/ and have fun designing the perfect home that's also 10/10 #defensible.

>pathfinder players
>without *greater teleports you into the sun*

>bwaaah I need rules for absolutely everything

I don't need rules to slap your bitch face

I bet you fucking do

If it weren't for rules, I couldn't even post in this Thracian mosaic board

One thing at a time, dude. I can imagine supplements coming out. Now that they've Kickstartered they want to focus on getting the core game out, which is perfectly understandable.

And we're on Veeky Forums. If you want house rules, welcome to the thread. What are your ideas?

Anyone have the BotIT rules?

Why do you need them? It's basically TRoS besides magic and some attributes.

Magic is the part I want to look at though.

Here's the problem with sociopolitical rules
Most of those things are roleplayed, with the appropriate period-specific knowledge. There's really no special mechanics appropriate to represent being the Archduchess, besides things better expressed through dialogue anyway.
Furthermore, under a lot of cultures, there's no such thing as "lords" and "lieges". Imperial China's a pretty good case for this - they might have people with TITLES, they might have had really rich people, they have governors, but they didn't have true nobility beyond the Imperial Family. Everyone answered, in theory, to the Emperor. Everyone else is just a shitty bureaucrat or an adviser, to be replaced at will and rotated at random (and often were replaced at will).

As for the rest, I agree.

Thanks mate

>There's really no special mechanics appropriate to represent being the Archduchess, besides things better expressed through dialogue anyway.
There's really no special mechanics appropriate to represent being a mercenary, besides things better expressed through swords anyway.

But yeah, explicit rules for playing Crusader Kings in SoS would definitely go amiss.

>mass combat, naval rules, fortress/castle design and siege rules
I think rules for sieges would be easier to develop from existing mass combat rules. Something like fortifications providing bonus to defense rolls against missiles and restricting targets for attacks. Stone walls and elaborate citadels provide huge defense bonus while camps, Napoleonic era field fortifications and trenches provide weaker defense but can be built much faster.

Sieges have a very different character from field battles, though. While simple defense bonuses would work at the strategic, hex-and-chit level, at the tactical level where you're moving around individual blocks of pikemen and batteries of cannon you'd need more than that.

Day 2 of the tournament is underway!

That's if we're talking about assaulting the castle. For the siege itself, it would be easier to develop from economic rules, since you need to look mostly at resource consumption and any outbreaks of disease.

Maybe I've been on Veeky Forums too long, but this guy seems preposterous to me. He pops up, explicitly asks for people to shill to him, and then announces that the shilling was successful. Is this really how normal people feel about marketing?

It's typical for RPG.net

Why not support things you want to succeed?

Now somebody's gone and written a six paragraph essay in that thread.

Is that also typical to RPG.net? Are they seriously going to read all of that shit?

Where do you think you are?

Veeky Forums has had storytimes, quests and world building. Writing huge walls of text is what we do.

And people read it all.

Unless it's some unfunny meta rant or personal blog post. Nobody has time for that shit.

The sixth fight of the first round is about to begin!
>#16 Sjornn Anfallare, Sea Raider vs #19 Zabaz - Izagoni “Duelling-Priest”
These are two of our latecomers!

youtube.com/watch?v=V2XGp5ix8HE

And the first blows! Khopeshfag manages to hool the Raider's shield, while the Raider lands a blow to the knee that does nothing. Disappointing.

I got a question regarding firearms.

If you have a firearm with the Revolver quality, is the firearm's Load the number of successes required to reload one round in, or all of them? I feel like the former would make more sense, but I just want to be sure

>Now somebody's gone and written a six paragraph essay
>it's Cruxador
Of course it fucking is.

>in the roll20
>playing a jazz remix of TTGL music
huh

First AAR from last thread

ENworld needs more shilling to keep the threads up. RPG.net has got critical mass, it looks like, but more posts are always good.

As a result of the Hook, the match has ground to a halt as the shield now exists in a state of quantum uncertainty. The Orredin are contemplating time travel to resolve the situation.

Time is reset, causing the shield to vanish in a shower of neutrinos. Suddenly bereft of its coverage, the raider takes a hit to his forearm, causing no damage but shocking him.

While the raider is still reeling in shock and confusion, Khopeshfag lands a brutal level 4 blow to the left forearm, nearly severing it entirely! The crowd cheers at this unusual display of exotic physics combined with brutal bloodshed.

Updated Giot Vaneleaux a bit, since I realized after the noncanon fecht yesterday that he had too many points in proficiencies and needed some reshuffling

Khopeshfag apologizes to the fallen raider, before finishing him with a clean, decapitating strike to the neck. His head rolls off the platform to the sea below; his body shortly follows.

The sixth fight is over!
>#16 Sjornn Anfallare, Sea Raider vs #19 Zabaz - Izagoni “Duelling-Priest”
Victor: Zabaz!
Method of Victory: Decapitation with a dane axe through a metal gorget.

Wait, not a Khopesh?

Think of it as a twin-linked khopesh on a long stick.

I was pleased by how in many ways the Dane Axe was mechanically just a very long Khopesh.

Also I need a can-opener have you seen those Burds?

The second fight of Round 2 is underway!
>#7 Isaac Lambert vs #6 Gunther Alder
Isaac progressed directly to Round 2. This is his first combat! Will he pass this trial by fire?

Well, he's got a Ruthlessly Fashionable crest, so that's a point in his favor.

And in the very first exchange of blows, Isaac's spear is shattered, leaving him unarmed. Not a completely hopeless situation, but I think we all already know what will happen.

You mean quater staff

And Gunther allows Isaac time to draw a dagger, because honor. He then subsequently manages to parry Gunther's poleaxe with it.

He does not pull off that miracle a second time. First blood is last blood, a level 5 wound with a reverse spike to the neck.
Sadly, his snazzy hat will be consigned to the waves with him.

The second fight of Round 2 has ended!
>#7 Isaac Lambert vs #6 Gunther Alder
Victor: Gunther!
Method of Victory: A level 5 pollaxe spike through metal armor and into the neck.

>eighteen hours into a saturday, and the additional money per day on the kickstarter is in the negative
Looks like having a tournament and showing people what the game plays like wasn't a good idea after all.

Another match is beginning now!
>#18 Giot Vaneleaux du Galli vs #17 Ozziah the Oathless, Ohanedin
One's a gallant knight with sword and shield. The other's an elf with a grutte zweihander. Who will survive?

The battle starts off with the two awkwardly shuffling their feet as they go blue/blue. Somebody in the audience coughs to break the silence.

And after a successful riposte, the Ohenadin inflicts a level 3 wound to Giot's neck with the counterstroke! Well that was fast.
I mean, he's not actually dead yet, but we all know how this goes.

Ozzie tries to finish Giot off with another blow to the head, but only inflicts a second level 3 wound. Looks like this will draw out another round.

This battle is over!
>#18 Giot Vaneleaux du Galli vs #17 Ozziah the Oathless, Ohanedin
Victor: Ozziah!
Method of Victory: Two level 3 cutting wounds: one to the neck, one to the lower head.

If 19 wins, I hope the commissioned art is a train with buff arms

+2 backers today, -$39. :(

Someone with a high pledge must have jumped down, and marketing didn't make up for it.

A very important match is about to begin. The winner of this match will proceed to the finals!

>#17 Ozziah the Oathless, Ohanedin vs #19 Zabaz - Izagoni “Duelling-Priest”

The winner will be one of three finalists. They will fight each of the other two finalists from the original roster to determine an ultimate winner.

Ozziah the Oathless is an Ohanedin who refused to offer an oath he was expected to give. Retreating from Ohanedin society, this immensely strong swordsman adventures across Vosca in search of worthy causes to pledge himself to. As one of the late entries to the Panoptica tournament, he fought fellow latecomer Gio Vaneleaux du Galli. The proud knight's great helm did little to save him from the vicious blows of Ozziah's grutte zweihander. After slaying his opponent, Ozziah ritually licked his blade, to age himself a second. If he persists with this behavior, he will die a natural death. But will Zabaz let him live that long?

Zabaz is a priest from Lost Izagone, the fabled island in Vosca lore. Armed with the legendary khopesh (and a dane axe made of two khopesh heads), this warrior has proven he has strength enough to cut through even Burdinadin armor. The mail armor of his first opponent in the round, the sea raider Sjornn Anfallare, was no match against his powerful blows. Speed backs up this warrior's strength, a lethal combination that has nearly brought Zabaz to the finals. But if there is any race in the world that exemplifies the virtues of alacrity and brawn, it's the Ohanedin. Will the Izagoni be able to cut down Ozziah, or will he join his homeland in the forgotten pages of history?

The truth shall be revealed! The fight begins now!

one round at a time, extra successes carry over as part of the load rs for the second round
its also possible to load more than one round per reload roll if you get enough successes

>Ohanedin

Literally all we need to know to realize who's going to win

The thinnest of ice my friend, watch your tongue.

I'm on my way back from a wedding, don't worry. We're like mid-campaign now, a slowdown is entirely normal.

Thanks senpai

Yeah, a Visionary Noble is open again, guess that's the one who jumped off.

there's a murderelf behind you now

Where's that GiantITP thread you made?

Update from the fecht room!

Okay so what's this fucking meme then

The latecomers semifinals match is over!
>#17 Ozziah the Oathless, Ohanedin vs #19 Zabaz - Izagoni “Duelling-Priest”
Victor: Zabaz!
Method of Victory: After several Rules of Nature attacks halted by needing to Roll With It to avoid Zabaz's urumi, Ozziah lost too much blood to resist being cloven in twain by a level 5 shoulder cut from the urumi!

Zabaz is going to the finals!

...

Experts believe that Zabaz praising Kek at the start of the match was also a major factor in his victory.

Rip good guy Ozziah.

Would having to canonise Khopeshfag make you happy or sad?

I'm considering making him or Ikesander one of your dumb Adventuring premades

Holy shit if Khopeshfag actually gets enshrined in the SoS corebook I will have to start beliwving in Kek.

BEAT THE BLADE HOOK THE LEG BEAT THE BLADE HOOK THE LEG BEAT THE BLADE HOOK THE LEG BEAT THE BLADE HOOK THE LEG

One of our two remaining fights from Round 1 is about to begin!
>#11 Lorea Mendoza vs #14 Theodore Grey
Can an unarmored swordsman defeat a power-armored Burdinadin?

Someone other than Khopeshfag using a Khopesh! Will wonders never cease.

I hope Theodore makes it to the finals To fight Khopeshfag with his own Khopesh. MAY KEK WILL IT
