Looking for Only War Advice

So today, I'm going to play Only War for the first time. I've been approved to be an engineseer with a servitor comrade only capable of repairs. The DM has a custom regiment styled to be a 1943 soviet army, so our lasguns are 5-shot rifles with no full auto (comparable to carbine).
What should I do? What advice do you have?
(also, we have a commissar)

RIP my thread. This will be my one bump attempt. After this, I will assume no one plays Only War anymore.

Sounds like your GM is doing it right. Most Only War campaigns I've been in have been full accurate quality abuses with headshots headshots headshots.

Also, if your a repair Enginseer, I hope the regiment\squad has a vehicle, otherwise I don't see how much use your going to be.

We're a mechanised regiment, so I have amazing purpose.

Motor Rifles?

Certainly comparable.

...

We would be part of 1 and 2. Also, did I mention our homeworld is "Stalina"

Damn I wish I was in that campaign.

It looks great. The DM is Canadian-American, but he loves his Russian descent. I'm straight up Russian, and my parents were born in the USSR era. In fact, my great-grandfather was outright a general in the Soviet army.
So needless to say, I'm looking forward to this.

I enjoy how an advice thread evolved into glorious Mother Russia.

Good stuff.

As to your questions above - if your happy playing a support character, go for it. Remember the techpriest memes, but dont take them to excess - the squad chimaera (which is what I assume you have) is made of glorious stalinium and is home to all brave sons and daughters of stalina. Don't get overprotective from the other PC's - you all should enjoy the warmth from her engines, and the nurture of her alcohol still (which if your not making on the first session, you should).

I've never played a techpriest\enginseer so I couldn't tell you how they play or how you should play them mechanically. I know they can get pretty powerful depending on how their built - we had a techpriest character in Dark Heresy 2nd who was combat pro mvp over my revolver gunslinger penal legion guardsman.

Other then that, sounds like you got flavor down pat. Bonus points if your campaign is on an winter world.

Thanks comrade!
I'm looking forward to this, and your advice has already stirred me.
May your life be great!

>winter world

comfy af

but don't think its only harsh climate russia can pull off, hazy delirious hot summers on huge plains as far as eyes can see, muddy trenches in syberian pine forests in the rain

Alright, haven't played for two years, but loved it a lot, let me warm up my crunch.

If I remember correctly, you start with like, 8 attributes. You can be alright at literally everything you want that's not social (unless you're using the expansions where I think they have social engineseers as an advanced class at 2.5k xp?) plus be amazing at tech/intelligence stuff.

You can be a perfectly efficient medic, freeing up that role for a buddy if they prefer to kill stuff.

I don't know if you have a spare attribute to assign from character creation overlap, but if you do, agility will help. For you, dodge>parry for reasons. You can be alright at melee or range, but don't expect to get cheap special talents, because those often need offense.

Wound's are cheap and worth it, so you don't get nicked to death before being healed.

Stay with guns, preferably las to just so you can crank up the power and blast away. Get that one talent that lets you mod weapons effectively. Having 4 mods on a lasgun does make a nice difference.

>trusting ad mech with healing the party

fuck no way
i don't want to wake up with cybernetic dong on my forehead just because i asked for quick leg frostbite burn treatment

>May your life be great!

Glory to the Eternal Emperor of The Imperium of Man!

May the Sons and Daughters of Stalina carry his Glory to the Cosmos!

Holy shit, thank you!

>Not wanting to have a hard forehead cyberdong to shoot lasers/poke out the eyes of the Big E's enemys

Tsk, this is why your regiment doesn't have a friend mechine-cult helping you be closer to the Omnissiah.

Also, ask your DM if they're down with letting you do advanced specialties from Shield of Humanity. Besides getting some crazy specialist gear, you can become a driver/vehicle buffer, melee murderer who's actually very good at it, or the servo-murderswarm lord.

Glad I could help.

Oh yeah, he's allowing all splat-books but he's scared things will go downhill in OP area, so I have to present everything in being not that bad.
