SotJR Session 4: Guro edition!

All of this is going to be spoilered, for the sake of FotJR.

>Party picks up where we left off; arguing about whether to go for second breakfast, or to the glassworks.
>A bar of chocolate sates our tummy rumblings for long enough to go visit the glassworks.
>We arrive to find smoke pouring out, but no sounds of work or industry.
>However the door is locked.
>ItsCrimeTimeMothafucka.gif

>Corwin pops the door open, while Val and Casimir admire the fine, yet rustic architecture.
>The floors coated with a thick layer of dust, and sounds of giggling echo from the manufacturing floor.
>Figuring the element of surprise is for losers, Corwin kicks open the door and is confronted with a dozen goblins mutilating and bodies of the factory workers.
>Fight! Fight! Fight!
>Goblins get ded.
>Corwin has the first crit fumble of the game, and nearly drops his sword into the furnace. >This only served to make him more angry, and he ended up beating the last goblin to death with his bare hands.
>Onryou is so enraged by the goblins, she ripped her clothes off; in favor of her leotard.

>The rest of the upper floor is clear.
>The floor safe had been opened and emptied out.
>We all gather at the stairs leading to the basement.

>Down in the basement we find the remains of smuggler's tunnels, the walls sealing them off chipped away by crude tools.
>There's a room filled with half-empty booze bottles, and stacks of hand-drawn pornography.
>Being the group's intellectuals, Casimir, Valeriya, and Corwin begin evaluating the artistic merits of the drawings.
>Unfortunately, they're interrupted by Aranha discovering an unconscious and half-naked Ameiko in one of the side rooms.
>Onryou and Seht volunteer to take her back to Father Zarus and warn Hemlock
>Valeriya, Aranha, Corwin, and Casimir opt to explore a tunnel they found in the basement, hoping it'll lead them to whoever is behind the goblin attacks.

Are any APs fit to run for a bunch of highschool kids?

Yes.

Does the Saturday group run before the Friday group or something?

Which ones?

Nope.

We're just too busy being HEROES to get distracted by lewdness.

All of them, except maybe book 3 of Rise of the Runelords.

Pazio is pretty PG-13 with their content.

Who here /friendly skeleton/

Their recent stuff has had more teeth pulled than their older content. Hook Mountain Massacre might not be a good example for a baseline, but it's more indicative of how far they were willing to go back in their earlier years compared to now.

These days it's all laughable misogyny demons and bumbling patriarchal figureheads.

Nyeh, I'm friendly, just so long as everyone remembers who's in charge and keeps on top-a their payments, see?

Not yet, but I do have plans to make a skeletal version of an old PC and include him as a one-off encounter, the guardian of something or just hanging around in a barrow the PCs have to break open and plunder.

>Their recent stuff has had more teeth pulled than their older content.

Yep.

Goddamn, do I wish we could get the old Paizo back.

Strange Aeons badly needed some teeth.

Was this one really so objectionable? I mean yeah, anime cat girl, but she's wearing more than your average LG Paladin and there's pretty much nothing more Veeky Forums than wacky skeletons. I mean come on, dancing bird skeleton.

I turned down an invitation for a Strange Aeons game recently because I don't like mythos themes. Did it not have a whole lot of horror or mind rape?

First module was kinda borderline, could have worked as a one-off, but it was more dungeon crawl than actual horror.

The others I've only skimmed over, but they were all just "this is a reference" rather than "roll for San loss." That said, I did like the module where the PCs go on a quest through the dreamlands and meet Abdul Alhazred, but it belonged in a different AP, not the "cosmic horror" one.

The first one was a serial killer in an abandoned asylum, which was cool in concept. But they didn't go far enough to make it actually scary.

The rest of the AP shied away from the truly horrific and unnerving in favor of "lolololol we read lovecraft too!" They wanted to write a "cosmic horror" adventure, but forgot what the second word altogether.

If there was one author whose work would have lent itself to the incestuous cannibal rapist necromancy ogres, it was Lovecraft. And they fucked it up.

Strange Aeons is very humdrum.

The fact of the matter is that Cosmic Horror and 3.X are fundamentally incompatible. The idea of cosmic horror is that these things exist outside any paradigm that a mortal can understand, and as such can never truly be threatened by humans. But the only way to represent "outside mortal paradigms" is to not stat it. If something in 3.X isn't statted then it's not a part of the game, it's just the DM being a dick. If it is statted then it can be killed. Including any large pieces of the mythos in Pathfinder means they're not what they are in the mythos, they're just a Pathfinder statblock with a stolen name.

Does it matter if the PCs will have a hard time fighting CR 30 Cthulhu?

>The fact of the matter is that Cosmic Horror and 3.X are fundamentally incompatible.

This is true, but that doesn't stop you from running effective and interesting horror in the system; you just have to be more creative than pasting a popular name on a bucket of stats. You have to start out asking yourself how to scare the players, then figure out the mechanics from there.

After that you have to carefully control the information the PCs receive (and ensure your players don't meta game. Because if they have no way of peaking behind the screen and figuring out the monster's stats, then it is, for all intents and purposes, unstated.

>read previous thread before it was pruned
>There was a discussion about making FE characters in PF/DnD

Funny, at one point my GM threw a fireball blaster at us and then when we looted the blaster, we realized her book is actually just a bunch of fireball scrolls binded together

Cthulhu is slightly different, because he's a Great Old One. He's still past the human scale, but he's still on /a/ scale. He can still technically be hurt, but at the same time there's a difference between "We've hurt him," and "We got past DR 20 and now we can hit him with whatever else." Mainly that in the first case "We've hurt him," should be instantly followed up with "Now let's get the fuck out of here while he's slow."

Exactly. They need to be enigmatic and fundamentally threatening. Not by virtue of having really big numbers, they need to be able to threaten the PCs even when the PCs have big numbers too.

A bit of an aside, but Mythic makes getting past DR painfully easy. A M1 Champion can build a critfishing build that shuts down DR for a turn basically every turn, with the caveat that it can't get past anything with fast healing or regeneration that can't be suppressed. Which, as far as I know, is just the Tarrasque.

Is this a Fire Emblem waifu?

Its supposed to be, right now I am asking my GM who it was

Said book is supposed to be a tome of Elfire, which the GM made to be a bunch of fireball scrolls in effect

Woops, I've lost the logs and GM cant remember

Still, it was funny to find out

What's your BBEG's dastardly plot of doom?

Destroy Minkai - and therefore anime.

Plan to progress my Dirge bard into Lichdom as soon as possible. Army of buffed bloodied skellies shall be neat.

That is if I ever get the time to meet up with my group.

I've been trying to optimize the Destruction Sphere, but it just doesn't seem all that noteworthy.

What things am I missing? How do I get the amount of damage that's occasionally complained about around here?

archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/48626465/#48631318

That's the ALL DAY level 5 build.

There's also a "blow all your SP in one round" level 5 build.

Thank ya!

Nazi Tigers.

...

It was formed after my dad fucked my mum.

How would you handle illiteracy in the stats?

Kill all the elves, dwarves, and any arcane spellcasters (except Bards) by sacrificing as many as possible to a Sphere of Annihilation.

The rest can die by more conventional means.

It's kind of hard to run a campaign like this when the BBEG can't use any arcane spellcasters of their own.

How should one roleplay as a court's assassin? Tiefling in this case.

What are best ways to abuse Blood Money + Lesser Restoration at level 4?

What about with Sacred Geometry at level 5?

It came from calcium. That could've gone terribly wrong; anytime one uses calcium, if anything were to happen to the queen atom, it would result in helvetica.

But nothing happened, and now I'm here

Deal with asshole planets from afar, and screw collateral.

>paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateCampaign/characterBackground/backgroundGenerator.html

Generate a Rogue background. Base your personality off of your origins.

IRON GODS

Killing thousands in a ritual designed to crack open a rift to Abaddon and elevate a divine servant to divinity

Make sure his dead waifu is dead.

Always get paid upfront, or you'll get screwed.

Never get screwed upfront, or you'll get fucked.

What makes a planet an asshole?

Pic related, depending on who you ask.

favorite maid girl that vampire lord rewarded with undying servitude, wears a wig to look more feminine.

Well for example there's Ego. Ego's an asshole planet.

But there's also planets full of them. Like, say, Rimmerworld. Or Toril.

I like her style.

It's not all of Toril. It's mostly the northwestern part of Faerun that's the problem. Maybe the Unapproachable East as well.

Is she in Thay?

oh boy you have no idea how many wipes are waiting for you in that book presuming your dm isn't a puss

Well user *did* ask BBEG, not how the good guys are planning to counter it.

Is that an example of an Outside-Context Problem? Or does it require something like an actual takeover or at least meeting the other civilization in order to count?

The fiend!

Who is the Nobunaga Oda in Minkai's history? Does it have a Nobunaga, or a big Mwangi Samurai?

What's the use of Demodands and Titans?

ive got a honey bun, and plenty of sleep last night. What is everyone thinking about for Dragon Game 2?

Any Questions?

Titans are just especially large foes or NPCs.

Demodandies were made to pad out the fiends.

I want to make a Drow fleshshaper who works like a plastic surgeon, with a huge thing for huge projects!

I want your honey buns

>Titans are just especially large foes or NPCs.

Are they big guys for me?

I mean what role do they fill in the greater world.
Div have a use, Oni and Rakshasa too. There seems to be only a little info for Titans and their minions.

They're for people who want to play gross, fatty Tieflings, instead of sexy ones or scary ones.

>not playing tieflings like members of Obzedat

Is it worthwhile to take metamagic feats on a cleric if I can and will just buy the rods as I go?

I will never understand why repugnant Orzhova trash are allowed to thrive. They should be destroyed. Guildpact a Shit.

A thing i should mention is that the New game will start at around the same time as the Original game is at currently.

The idea being that With the Success (Failures) of the first group of champions for The Queen, A second group gathers and tries their luck.

Because they have all the money and want civilization to survive which it won't do if any of the other guilds come to power.

How anachronistic are the clothes? Can I dress a thicc dragon girl up in a scandalous sequin evening gown? This is important!

The same reason people who invite Jews back to the country after their repeated removal allowed jews back in, they need cash fast.

Have you considered wearing the traditional dress of dragons everywhere?

Isn't that just... nothing?

No, that's extortion. They need to be killed. Teysa being cute is no excuse.

of course not, uh, it's just that the panties are made invisible with magic, so that, uh, people can't take pantyshots of you.

Consider this image, This is the standard dress for women in the demesne, maybe a little over dressed.

or something akin to this as well.

This is pedestrian wear. As for fashion, Go nuts, Togas, other dresses, Body paint, The place feels like the tropics, dress accordingly.

Realistically every guild that has Black in it should go.
Along with the Gruul.

What episode was that line from?

The Golgari are pretty bro though.

Well, I want to go full Jessica Rabbit. Or maybe Liza Minelli from Cabaret. Not all the time of course, just for special events. How about it?

go for it!

Golgari and Gruul are fine, plus their aid would help get rid of the truly depraved.

YOU ARE EATING PEOPLE!!
They have to go as well.

>Be a powerful lich thousands of years ago. Doing my normal raising undead legions and conquering thing.
>Band of righteous adventures defeat my armies and storm my castle.
>"Shit they destroyed my phylacrety and are coming for me next. Better use the back up plan."
>fracture part of my soul and hide it in some random farm town via teleportation magic.
>Adventures annihilate me, nothing left of me. Except my soul fragment.
>Thousands of years later, a war begins and sweeps through the kingdom.
>battles consume the farm village my soul rests under.
>absorb the souls of the deceased until I have enough power to remanifest.
>Posses the body of a mage killed in the conflict and fight in the war to absorb more souls.
>Now working on becoming a powerful archmage so I can become a lich again.

user, we are deadly serious when we say you can go as large-chested and extravagantly dressed as you want, and it will be canon.

Demesne citizenry are basically Kingdom Death characters in a world that's actually kind.

That disgusting ape demon has very messy hair!

I just recently became a lich so here.

>disgusting
>ape
>messy hair
Albedo a slut!

Okay, I've got a question about this series.

Is the MC "trapped" in the virtual reality world, or is it just something he kept himself logged in, but can leave to go do "real world" things?

>be runner up originally
why would I not just resubmit?

They're a well fed, and pampered people. With dragon sexy genes. Figures like this aren't un common.

How do yōkai kitsune raise their fox-children?

leaving them with the shorter lived parent mostly

They raise them with the human father/mother until the jig is up, and then they run off.

I do not remember which episode. You'll just have to watch it all again.

You know, I *almost* felt bad for her in the OAD when he tells her that no matter how much he tried to see her as the heroine when they first slept together in the stables, he simply could not.

... almost.

Does anyone have In the Company of Rakshasa?

No, it seems to be a log-horizon type of deal, where the only shard still loaded on the server ended up on some other world like a misfired transporter pattern buffer, and even the NPCs awakened from a previously lower level of cognizance.

Well that's kind of lame, are there any virtual world type shows where the main character isn't actually "trapped" in it?

So folks, decided to read through all the 3pp kineticist material we've got available.

Kineticist has now hit the 4-archetype-stacking mark: Elemental Scion, War Kineticist, Kinetic Knight, and Roil Dancer all stack, and the all synergize relatively well together. The result is a Strength-based, single-element beatstick/controller with a lot of options for taking on enemies, which I'm honestly rather interested in, because it seems neat.

What are your experiences with the Roil Dancer? It seems reasonable to me. With some of the items in Kineticists of Poryphyra 2 and 3, you could make up for not getting elemental overflow damage. As far as I know, the damage boosts are as follows:

Elemental Scion (ups you one step if you choose to spec into a single blast)
Ring of Elemental Strength (+1 Damage per die)
Vambraces of Overflowing Power (lets you add E. Overflow damage to K. Blade and anything else that doesn't add it normally)

Any thoughts on this? I might attempt building one at some point , if /pfg/ wants to run a game that would accommodate it.

I could even do this for the Dragon game or something. War Kineticist/Elemental Scion/Kinetic Knight/Roil Dancer or something. Just smack people with a sword made of ELEMENTAL ENERGYYYYY. It could be fun
