Yes. It's not relevant to war. The only sex that is relevant to war is Genestealer butt rape.

I'd guess mechanicus + mechanicus sex would involve connecting a lot of fiberoptics directly to their own pleasure centers.
Mechanicus + non-mechanicus sex would involve detachable vat-grown felshlights/dildos, again wired directly to their pleasure centers.

Didn't a Space Marine pork an Adeptus Mechanicus in one of the novels?

Fully functional in every way.

An Adeptus Mechanicus is more likely to fuck a toaster oven than another person. An old school kinda lay, from a forgotten age.

...

Does that mean that if they're really getting into it, that they're getting real hot and heavy?

BA DA TISH!

So they should be just as likely to fuck another Mechanicus, who are largely made out of old toaster parts.

I gotta wonder if an engine is a sexual thing for the AdMechs. All those pistons pumping furiously, explosive chemical reactions appeasing the machine spirit, fuel and oil everywhere...

I don't even understand why you would ask that question let alone feel the need to contemplate it.

And this is a problem...how?

Can straight love bloom among OP's?
Can they have sex with women?

...

>Can they have sex?
if they can't, I'm certain they can invent something that can for them.

At least there's fan art.

Yes, someone in fact had sex with an AdMech girl in the books.

Yes.

Depends on whether or not they still have functioning reproductive systems. It's not like as soon as someone joins the cult they replace their entire bodies with robot parts, Admech members slowly add to their augmentations over the decades.

Tech Priests don't invent things, that's heresy!

I am sure they have some archo tech sex toy.

Blue board, you freaks!

Cain porked an admech mechanical catgirl.

She was only an enginseer, not a full admech (at that point)

This goes for you too

>She was only an enginseer
bueno

They can certainly feel love. There's a couple in one of the Horus Heresy novels that have a great deal of unspoken attraction for one another.

As for sex, it depends on how extensive their augmentations are. I don't see why not, assuming all the necessary bits are there.

AdMech is the whole organization. She was one obviously. She wasn't a magos, tho.

They do. Kind of. They just say they didn't. Kind of.

I think the Tech-Faith is pretty fucking fragmented, so exactly how much they are scientists and how much they are evangelical archivists sort of changes depending on where they are.

In the end if they have a real need for something new, some techpriest can claim to have been blessed with 'divine vision'.

IN WHICH BOOK, I DAREASK.

Anyone can write for BL nowadays, huh?

She started out as an enginseer in one novel, but ascended to the status of magos 80 years later.

Seems to be the one, but it doesn't say on the lexicanum page that they connected their wiring.

Oh my goodness. Imagine having to go and meet the parents? Her dad is a big-fuck machine/spider/man magos thing? Fuck that noise. Imagine how awkward it would be for magos-mom to start bringing up grandkids.

Thank you, my friend.
I need to organize my Warhammer reading list.

Nah, according to lexicanum techpriests and enginseers are different, with techpriests having more a religious role. Apparently the enginseer who fucked Cain was rejected from tech-priesthood because she wasn't pious enough.

Probably, but sex for them is going to look a bit different than what you're thinking of.

Your hardware can't handle my software.

Watch out for voltage compatibly issues...

Always engage protection. You wouldn't want to catch a computer virus!

I'm thinking of direct neural interfaces or dildoes connected straight to the brain, so pretty close.

Some drawfags rendition of Felicia when she and Cain were a thing.

I'm a drawfag, also. Amateur, but one nevertheless. I am saving this ref, after I read about her in the book i will use both refs to make some fanart. Found the concept both interesting and ludicrous.

Isn't BL overlyprotective over such things? Like, if the writer makes something fanfic esque won't the editors complain?

She has a mechanical cat tail/hand!

...

>Like, if the writer makes something fanfic esque won't the editors complain?

I've honestly never heard of this. GW itself is super-protective of its IP, but generally only for things which try and make money off it or fan projects that get huge enough to catch their attention. Fanfics, drawn or written porn, whatever, they don't care or aren't aware. Even if they do find out, I'm pretty sure this sort of this is covered by Fair Use acts, which allow people to parody them to their hearts content.

This helps to expand my understanding of the mechanicus in everyday imperial life greatly. Still, I wonder when it comes to things like regular engineers and doctors how much of a role does the Mechanicus play in that? Do they approve and teach at centers of learning for non mechanicus members on a planet in certain fields? I've always been of the opinion that shit like regular STEM and medical sciences is whatever but the super science version of it is strictly the purview of the Mechanicus.

Essentially, a doctor could install a bionic arm for you, but to get a full body prosthetic you have to go to the mechanicus for that.

An egineer can build a city but to build complex power generators you need the mechanicus for that.

There are regular people who can maintain technology, but most, if not all, high-tech medical and construction workers are probably at least lay members of the mechanicus cult.

I imagine these sorts of people do exist, but they're technically members of the Mechanicus - just very low-ranking ones who don't necessarily buy into the "FLESH IS WEAK" philosophy. They'd receive training and apprenticeships from the wider organisation, then be kicked back out into society to keep the small cogs turning.

I figure such is the case. Wouldn't mechanicus stationed on a planet maintain their own temples as well? I imagine there would be a bit of cultural spill over but overall fit into as you descibe with them being essentially laymen of the mechanicus

...

The laymen of the mechancius are all the members who aren't techpriests, in literally the same way that the laymen of Catholocism are all the members who aren't priests. Most of them toil away endlessly on forge world factories, but they can also be found anywhere the tech priests are.
Doctors and mechanics are probably the equivalent of deacons. They might even be literally called deacons.

I get that although how DH1 handled the archetypes really kind messed up my perception of things.

I wouldn't think a Chirugeon has a fairly high standing in the mechanicus cult, I mean, the doctor that followed around Gaunt had no affiliation with them certainly (and I think they picked up another one after Virvunhive?)

Well, not every doctor is going to be a member of the Mechanicus. Just the ones capable of implanting bionics. Your average sawbones probably has no connection with the Admech whatsoever, but if they're part of a larger clinic, they might have a specialist on-hand who does.

Yeah, we should keep in mind that the Imperium regularly mixes members of barely connected cults without (much) infighting, and the mechanicus is the number one most likely to be mixed in with members of other cults.

That's strange: it's a big enough umbrella...

Ordo Biologis best ordo.

Worship the Sacred Human Form in all it's jiggly, perky goodness.

Yeah, the Server and Sub-Server of Calth are a couple, she described their relationship to an Ultramarine as life-partners, compares it to marriage and there's clearly a romantic, emotional element to it.

There's also a Imperator Titan Princeps in Vengeful Spirit who mentions having recreational sex with one of her Moderati when she still had the neccessary equipment to do so.

I've always seen it in terms of Tech Levels. There's "ordinary" tech available on imperial worlds-- technology that is native to that world and doesn't require the AdMech. Obviously, that level varies depending on the world. It's sometimes advanced sci fi tech by our standards.

But then there's the Adeptus Mechanicus. They're a full tech level ahead of everyone else. They can, by selling/loaning technology and sometimes personnel to maintain/repair/operate it, basically give the benefits of that advanced tech level to another faction. So the Space Marines, Inquisition, Navy, and other institutions get advanced technology but only thanks to the continuing patronage of the Mechanicus. Who, conveniently, denounce as heresy any civilization or technology they don't control that is up at their level. That's how they maintain their monopoly.

Then one or two tech levels after that is the DAoT stuff. Admech can sometimes maintain/repair/operate this stuff, but not build it. And with factions of tech priests hoarding knowledge as leverage against one another, or denouncing one another for Tech-heresy for political reasons, it's no wonder that the AdMech is stuck at their current level, even declining somewhat.

I think is on the right track. I've always seen it as lay members vs. ordained clergy to add to the whole "cult" layer. On the other hand, i'm sure there are enough small doctrinal differences in the scents across the galaxy to cover the differences between the ordained priests. For example, the noticeably split ectro priests.

I could easily imagine it falling along lines of philosophy. For example, a huge split on the whole sex thing could come from how an admech understands the human-as-machine doctrine. If a human is a machine, doesn't the cult have a responsibility to care for the bodies around them? Is the soul and mind a part of the human machine? If does the care extend to the mental and emotional state of humanity?

This could explain the nature of the wildly different aguments made to the priests. On one hand you have admechs who view machines as a way to break free from their human machine. On the other you have admechs who view the human machine as sacred, and wish to push it past its limits.

This is cute.

*Swings Ethernet cable*
Lady-adepts...

I just couldn't be bothered googling a hex translator, let alone translating it myself.

Why would hex make any sense anyway, why hex and not octal. Why either over binary?

I think they might admire reproduction itself without the emotional atavisms that surround it. In that sense, streamlining the whole process makes a good bit of sense. Though there's plenty of room for alternative interpretations.

Remember also that celibacy and even castration has been a part of many societies in history, even in the leadership classes. So much the better that you get to pass on your genetic legacy even without sexual relationships, and your intellectual legacy via your scholarship and teaching as a Tech-Priest.

This may sound kind of bleak, a vacant outlook on life, but I've seen people undergo hormonal shifts that change their entire worldview-- just from a change in one or two chemicals. Pregnancy, puberty, hormone changes from cancer treatments-- they all can lead to quite profound cognitive changes.

Apply that to AdMech, and it goes two ways. One is that a person whose endocrine system has been "upgraded" won't hunger for love and companionship the way most of us do. The other is that knowing their outlooks depend so much on squishy hormonal fluctuations, why not find the Right and Proper emotional outlook and then chemically hack your way around human limitations until you have a brain that can endure and even thrive without love or romance?

Think of /r9k/. Their defining factor isn't that they can't get love or sex, it's that they so desperately want it. Eliminate the need and the r9k-ness becomes normalized, livable, even preferable. Then add twenty thousand years of ritual and tradition, and suddenly r9k becomes the technological priesthood and their views become holy writ.

Binary is archaic and inefficient. Just like the admech.

>contemplating how heretical my boner is

Y'all should take a look at the Love and Krieg thread. Cog and Krieg features a Grade A Mechanus Waifu.

2^4 gives you one more power of two than 2^3. Really it's just a matter of taste, because switching between powers of two is really trivial. It's a convenience because our brains tend to be recognizers rather than iterators. We can recognize among a large number of symbols but can only process a few entities at once.

Of course, the duodecimal system is even better for that (and gives you funky divisibilities) but obviously you lose the easy translation to binary.

So for human use, octal and hexidecimal are both good alternatives for people who like binary but want to be able to process it in their heads. And in the grim darkness of the forty first millennium, how can anyone resist the play on words of using a number system that's already called "hex"?

I can totally see this happening. The current major sect of the admech seems to have done just that, hacked their way to peace and contentment. I still think there's room for smaller "grass roots" philosophies that see the human condition as a blessing. A "protestant" version of the admech rather then the normal "Catholic" kind.

It could provide a really nice in-universe counter argument to the inhumanity of WH40K in general. I'll keep this around for a Dark Heresy game.

I also now have visions of blissed out buddhavista admechs building giant clockwork mandalas as meditation.

It also opens up really interesting ideas around heretical dark mechanicus. I mean, we can do alot of things to ourselves, but, is it wise to do them? Taken further, what could Chaos offer to someone who can shut off their need to feel love or hunger?

>Taken further, what could Chaos offer to someone who can shut off their need to feel love or hunger?
Power.
Forbidden gadgets.
Freedom to experiment, in the quest for knowledge.

What Horus promised Mars, basically.

Yeah, but his self-confidence is not

That could account for some but not all of the admechs who got tapped for chaos. Otherwise it offers a pretty good argument against the Admech philosophy as a whole.

It's not heretical to admire her sacred bionics user

I imagine there's a open source and close source sects of the mechanicus who endlessly fight in the great git repository chambers over this sort of thing
