Sauron/Mairon was described as "Farest" which is normally a feminine descriptor, so... it's not inaccurate to draw as a female. I mean the other descriptions of being 'fair' are to be blonde and have very fresh, white skin which have also been drawn so... just technically matching Tolkien's description.

It's one specific artist that does that, and she's arguably pretty good at drawing it. She has a definite concept for every character and carries it.

I'm not defending fujoshi per se, but "Ancient Greek" has been a shorthand for "gay as fuck" since Rome at least. There's a long history of reading homosexuality and more into classical works and subsequent epics, it will only stop when its already present in the work and under pointed authorial direction, such that it cannot be smudged in elsewhere.

Huh, and here I thought I was enjoying both representations without needing to put them in opposition or even try to reconcile them. I get that you probably have a pressing need to see the representation of things conform to your personal reading and thematic preferences. Still, the view to keep interpretations of Tolkien as reactionary as possible isn't any more valid than any other, and it usually comes from reading the body of work as a normative, reactionary allegory. Taken instead as an exercise in reproducing an epic poetic tradition in dialogue with modern cultural history there is no bar on acceptable derivative works, because in all cases they carry on the dialogue between the contemporary life and the tradition of epics. None of this is to say Phobs' art is supported by canon, or more tonally appropriate than anything else, it isn't, just that it has its place within the body of derivative material. It's a place analogous to obsessing over Achilles and Patroclus, but its there.

Well to continue, its not the anti-fujoshi part I see as improper, its this. Tolkien was aiming for something akin to an oral tradition, like the epics of the trojan war or norse sagas, and took the shifting re-presentation of the stories as essential to such works. Holding the Iliad as sacrosanct means no bawdy lyric poetry about Achilles, but it also means no Aeneid.
Beyond that, while I can see your objection to the aesthetic preferences of fujoshi to be reasonable, your characterization of their intentions seems a bit breathless. The small circle of silmarillion-fujoshi on tumblr most of the trappy sauron images are drawn from seem consistently interested in the material of tolkien's writing, they just tend to imagine things in whatever style they work in, which brings in the aesthetics you dislike. Phobs is the only one we see posted a lot that is particularly focused on shipping sauron and melkor, and even she revised her own admittedly light headcanon when she became aware that her earlier drawings were distinctly out of character for sauron's behavior. Looking at the other ones' work, they're variously fixated on illuminating the tale of Beren and Luthien, on depicting the valar throughout the ages of arda, making slice of life comics about the politics of the first age, and the typical recreation of prominent scenes. They all bring in the tumblr-characteristic features of interpretive virtue signaling, needless possessiveness of their work, etc. to some extent or another, and usually have the girl/gay appreciation of pretty men, but its not as if their treatment of Tolkien is aggressively pornographic.
