What is the coolest/funniest/scariest moment to ever happen to your party?

Do you have Pulp Chtulhu?

>we're playing Observer Effect
>have already experienced the first time loop, party pretty much understands what they need to do to stop the incursion
>first thing party does is grab an axe from one of those emergency fire containers and cut up Dee's wires and throw it in the back of the van they brought
>DEA agent gets in a fistfight with some of the scientists as they try to prevent them from taking the computer
>security guards starts taking potshots at the party, they all pile in the van
>guy with best driving skill fails roll, van crashes into side of concrete gate
>they all pile out and breach the main building, all of them going in different entrances
>FBI agent #1 walks through the main door, instantly dies from burst of 5.56
>DEA agent takes cover in a doorway, takes a 9mm to the shoulder and passes out, bleeds out a few rounds later
>FBI agent #2 tries to shoot M4 guy, gun jams, gets shot through the wall and dies next turn
>EPA analyst tries to shoot MP5 guard, gun jams, takes a 9mm to the chest and bleeds out a few rounds later
>literal TPK from two glorified mall cops

When we played it took every time loop. Half the party got sucked up by the Azathoth blob because they were out of Willpower (thanks to the constant 'POW save and lose D4 WP and SAN' rolls) and taking a nap in the car while the other two agents went inside to kill everyone. The rest of the team ran away and hid in the woods after killing the researchers, and since they weren't "observing" the effect anymore due to temporary insanity, the portal closed with nobody watching it and mini-Azathoth got slurped back up.

>literal TPK from two glorified mall cops

Not really a problem (besides the SAN damage) unless the last 'save point' was after they got shot, right? Also if I remember correctly from the briefing, the guards at the array are combat veterans, hardly "glorified mall cops".

I just had it so that it went to the final time loop where perfect communion was reached, and the agents woke up in a world where the array never existed. They still kept all those SAN losses though.

>crit fail means the gun jams

There's artistic license and then there's just plain absurd. A weapon with even a 1/100 chance of jamming on a given shot would be considered an unreliable piece of garbage, certainly not something a government agent or professional would carry. The military makes some seriously boneheaded procurement decisions, but even their most fragile weapons systems don't fail one out of a hundred times if properly maintained.

Is it really absurd if the enemies also have to follow this rule? I'm aware pretty much no firearm bar a Hi-Point or INSAS would actually jam that often, but it mixes combat up a little and my players are fine with it.

Has anyone done a successful Delta Green Hastur run? I want to transition from night floors into Carcosa but keep similar themes after those games.

And what would happen on a crit-failed firearms test, in your game?

I am currently leading my players into a Hastur campaign as of now. Most of them have already read the King in Yellow due to finding the play during Future/Perfect so now I'm just interspersing apparitions and certain themes during investigations. I think I'm gonna have them make a set of investigators for a 1995 Night Floors, and then have their current characters play A Volume of Secret Faces searching for those characters.

I've done the late night car apparition already. Using sticky notes to communicate things with only one player really does a good job of adding tension.

>drop the gun
>shoot a friendly (if there are any in the arc of fire)
>miss

>Is it really absurd if the enemies also have to follow this rule?

Yes. A silly rule is silly whether or not it's uniformly applied.

>drop the gun
Wouldn't that be mechanically exactly the same as your gun jamming? They're both basically rendering your gun unusable for a turn, the only difference being what you're trying to do during the turn. Although, shooting a friendly is a pretty interesting crit fail consequence. I'll have to keep that mind next time we play.

Also
>that pic
I always knew Dennis Detwiller was a tracing hack.

>drop the gun
There's artistic license and then there's just plain absurd. A shooter with even a 1/100 chance of dropping his weapon on a given shot would be considered an untrained piece of garbage, certainly not something a government agent or professional would be. The agencies make some seriously boneheaded recruitment decisions, but even their most inexperienced agents don't fail one out of a hundred times if properly trained.

>copypasta

There's artistic license and then there's just plain absurd. An anonymous user with even a 1/100 chance of iterating on someone else's joke by changing a few words would be considered a shitposting piece of garbage, certainly not a meme worth reposting. The janitors make some seriously boneheaded decisions, but even their most inexperienced hotpockets don't fail one out of a hundred times if properly microwaved.

/ysg/, I come to you in darkest hour in need of aid with something stupid.

I need a list of all known deity-level entities, such as Old Ones, actual gods, and the like. Names and descriptions are fine. I've been working off Wikipedia for now, but I figure you've got to know a better list. It's for a very silly cause, but you're my only hopes.

Before anybody starts yelling at me, I know it's Derleth shit.

Why exactly do you need it? Tell me, I won't laugh.

That's handy. Have anything else for me with more stuff on it?

It's pretty massively retarded. I'll spoiler it. So, I'm playing through Pokemon HeartGold right now and I wanted a theme for all my Pokemon's names. So I decided on Cthulhu Mythos names. My current party is Nodens, Yog-Sothoth, Azathoth, Karakal, Golothess, and Ghisguth.

As fine a purpose as any. Are you sure you've got more pokemons than wikipedia list and covers?

Nah but I also like lists and the mythos. Hit me up with em if you got em.

Is there any chance someone might be recruiting for an online CoC7 game?

I've never had an opportunity to play, although I've read my books a million times and certainly tried to get games together. I'm just the only person in my circle of friends who's into this sort of shit, or at least into it enough to want to play CoC.

kickstarter.com/projects/golden-goblin-press/the-7th-edition-guide-to-cthulhu-invictus/description

Are you interested in 7e strictly or just CoC in general? Because my current new Delta Green group needs a fourth player.

I shall plunder it upon its release

>Karakal, Golothess, and Ghisguth
what

Before I start reading things I shouldn't, how much pre-game read should I do if I'm going to first-time in a CoC game?

None. Seriously. It'll work better and feel more (un)natural. Just learn how the rules work and how your character works. That's all.

Don't you die on me! Don't die, you hear! We will make it through!

Found them on the Wikipedia article for Cthulhu Mythos Deities. I think they're from the expanded mythos by other authors. Sound cool though.

I was hoping for 7e, but I do have the 6e books, and Delta Green is certainly worth a try.

Are you sure Shub Niggurath is an Outer God and not just a Geat Old one?

I don't know man I didn't make the chart.

Delta Green isn't 6e anymore, it came out after 7e

It's still based around 6e more than 7e though.

The simplified skill list is more reminiscent of 7e. The removal of some of the primary statistics (EDU, SIZ) as far as I can tell isn't based on any of the other games but is certainly welcome.

However if anything a lot of the design choices seem more taken from Eclipse Phase (crit on doubles, blackjack for opposed tests, etc) than any of the other CoC editions.

Rules wise new DG is basically a combination of CoC 6e and Unknown Armies and is intended to be fully backwards compatible with 6e so you can easily port old scenarios into the new system.

>fully backwards compatible with 6e

This isn't the case. A quick look at the 6e monster manuals will show that there are enough changes to the stats system, the HP and damage numbers, and the way the combat system works that you can't just move content from one to the other. With the new magic system incoming, based on what's been posted behind the authors' various patreon paywalls, scenarios which require magic are also going to have to be rewritten. Yes, it's easy to port things but that's a far cry from 'fully backwards compatible'

I ran Cold Dead Hand a few weeks ago with the new DG rules and the only thing that took any significant effort porting over were a few skills for the PCs.

It's a separate system now, and I find it simpler than CoC. Doesn't really matter, though. Anyway, if you're interested, leave a throwaway email. I'll contact you and put you through to the GM.

[email protected]

So, in 7th edition CoC it's impossible to fire more than 5% of a mingun without jamming it. Since every preceding shot is fired with an additional penalty die you'll eventually be rolling with two penalty die on an extreme success to hit. Thus, you'll probably hit a fumble soon enough.

How do we remedy this? Fully auto-fire is clearly broken for high capacity machine guns.

>the only thing that took any significant effort porting over were a few skills for the PCs.

Doesn't matter. If it took any changes at all, the game is by absolute definition not fully backwards compatible.

You remove crit fail tables unless taking lots o san checks?

I've got 4-5 people together for a game of Call of Cthulhu that we're planning on playing over the web together. All of us are pretty inexperienced though, so I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in being GM for a group of people new to tabletop? a lot of us are girls

If you're interested please add me on Discord my username is sparky.

Or it's sparky#1308 I don't know if you need that number to add me.

Probably worth posting that in the game finder thread too.

Okay, so "fully backwards compatible" is a stretch, it's still really fucking easy to port over.

I don't know how to search users on discord but I might be able to run something, shoot me an email.

>want to run a DG scenario containing the Black Goat of the Woods
>know my players would just accuse me of magical realming

Why? Unless they know you're into tentacles, you should be fine.

In most of the published material for CoC Shub Niggurath is the goddess of either self castration or fucking as hard as you possibly can. See the Cthulhu Now scenarios about Mother's Milk or the Delta Green sourcebook with the Skoptsi

Both are extrapolating a lot from the original mythos texts. Shubby is only ever really described obliquely, as a sort of "sophisticated astarte" or "magna mater"

Well, just don't namedrop anything. Maybe replace self-castration with general self-mutilation, and sex with violence. Nothing will really change.

>just replace everything with something else
>nothing will really change

Are cells gone in the new DG? What do we call player parties now?

Mine will be called Task Force Shrike. And in general, DG working group codenames will follow the small predatory bird theme.

I use the term working group but I forget if that's the official.

>ITT: /k/

I have one member in my group who autistically compiled a list of a bunch of different firearms and gave them stats based on their real life counterparts. It's interesting to see how different people focus on different aspects of table top based on what they like.

What kind of shit do you put in your games normally that your players can't distinguish between creepy sex stuff done in service to a Lovecraftian fertility goddess and stuff you want to jack off to?

I almost never go over sexual content in my games, it's just that my players are pretty immature.

Do you happen to have that list? The most I ever really get into gunwank in DG is having the actual names for the guns instead of generic stuff like assault rifle, heavy pistol, shotgun etc.

DG is split into The Program and The Group. The Program is official, formed after MJ-12 was dissolved after 9/11. They're well funded but the players are gonna have to contend with complying with superiors who probably don't know what they're dealing with and will try to get the PCs to capture Mythos stuff so it can be repurposed instead of DG usual M.O. of just torching everything or locking it in a Green Box.

The Group is mostly older agents who were too paranoid to join The Program and decided to continue working illegally. They're pretty much working on their own, but work more or less like the DG we're used to. I don't know if they still use cells though.

Then that's their problem, if you really want to run a Shub scenario I guess warn them that there's gonna be some sexual themes and/or lean into the horrific aspects more than the sexual ones.

You can't really cut sex out entirely if you're dealing with something that is most commonly interpreted as a fertility goddess, it's like running a Naked Goddess scenario in Unknown Armies and asking "How do I do this without mentioning porn?"

That explanation had no relation to the question and didn't answer it. It was completely unnecessary.

The Old Guard still uses cells, but it serves no purpose and is largely due to tradition AFAIK. The question is, what does the New Blood use officially.

I suppose, since it's a clearance level once again, the authorities just assemble task forces, working groups, teams and other bands of people with that clearance as necessary and designate it in whatever way fits. That'd make sense.

You asked if DG still uses cells, I explained that there are two DGs in the new DG books. One doesn't use cells, the other might and most likely can if that's how you want to flavor it.

Here is the one for 1890s. I think he has more but I don't know where they are. I GM and I'm going to use this when I do 1890s game.

Damn son, that's really dope

Yeah, I've learned to really appreciate his presence.

This rules, I don't usually play Gaslight games but I'm gonna have to start.

...

fuck off Hastur

Speaking of Hastur, what's the name of the CoC scenario where the investigators are trapped in a New Orleans mansion that's slowly being dragged into Carcosa?

Maybe you're thinking of Night Floors? That's a DG scenario where the investigators get trapped in an apartment building that's getting slowly dragged into Carcosa.

The question is: does hastur laughes yellow?

...

Does anyone here pulp cthulhu?
I played Goodman Games, the Lost Expedition as a Pulp Campaign and am interested in telling folks if their interested.

That book was one hell of a drug.

Anybody listening to the RPPR/Dennis Detwiller playthrough of Impossible Landscapes? It's good shit.

I never got the point of listening to someone play the game rather than playing it yourself.

I wish Tynes was back in.

Not that other guy but I really only listen to actual plays of scenarios I plan on running at some point in the future. Hearing other people run through it helps me get a better idea of how to run the scenario, what parts the players might get hung up on or what parts I might want to put a little extra preparation into. Impossible Landscapes seems like a good one in particular because the guy running the scenario is also the guy who wrote it.

Does anybody know the name of that one short story that details how Agent Nancy got turned into a ghoul? It's been bugging me all day and I can't find it in Alien Intelligences.

I only listen to stuff I've already run or played. It's fun to see how other people handle the same adventure.

So...is this the new /dgg/?

>/dgg/
what

It's older than /dgg/, y'know.

Wish I could play this game one day. I've been a fan of Cthulhu and Lovecraftion things for such a long time.

It's a fun game. Whether or not it captures the feeling of lovecraft depends on the GM and the players. I've played a lot of games that bordered on comedy.

Tynes is out ? Out of DG or what ?

Out of TTRPGs completely since 2003 AFAIK.

Here's a challenge, /ysg/!

Take the most spooky moment of your life, and write a scenario about it. Make sure to put in something supernatural.

...

Can you read? user said write a scenario, not a novel.

Ok, you first

Delta Green General

Yeah, no. /dgg/ has been around for years. Only seen these "/ysg/" threads for like six months if that

Anyone got any files they think would be useful for someone building up their DG reference material? I already have detwilers shit on making horror scenarios and disposing of bodies

Then this is both delta green general and CoC general. No reason to be picky.

Yeah, there's barely enough discussion in the combined /ysg/ to warrant generals as frequently as we have them as it is.

Easy.

>go camping innawoods with bros
>set up a nice camp in a nice clearing, chill, the usual deal
>about to go to sleep
>suddenly, a wild rainstorm appears
>wind is surprisingly strong
>already weak signal is completely fucked now
>no way we're going back in the dark through a fucking storm
>get everything soakable including ourselves innatent and cover the rest with tarps
>sit down and chill, a bro gets out a portable heater
>getting real comfy
>something's not right
>rain doesn't sound as it should
>peek out
>almost like flapping
>peek out some more out of curiosity
>a couple of black shapes crash inside the tent and start flapping all over the place
>through sheer luck catch them and throw out
>bats
>the storm and thunder must have woke them up from their trees, or whatever
>there's literally dozens of them outside, flapping
>flapping and fucking screeching, fuck my sensitive hearing
>zip the tent shut and sit there, in a small cloud of bats, after a couple hours finally go to sleep

I have a boring life so this is when I was spooked the most. Don't know about bats, so no idea if that happens often or not.

As of the scenario, replace bats with nightgaunts. Boom, a small group of people has to survive a bunch of nighgaunts hunting them in the wilderness, at night, in a storm, with very limited resources. Maybe have a sabdbox-ish layout, with a map of the general area of the forest they're in, with some features - the campsite, a pond, an abandoned cabin, a newer inhabited cabin, and such.

As a matter of fact, I should get to writing that.

I don't know. I remember seeing /ysg/ back in 2012.

Or maybe I'm confusing it with CoC generals. Doesn't matter.

Hmm, I wonder if /x/philes would play a low level CoC game like this... Or maybe a quest...

Hey gang.

I bought a cheap-ass Barnes and Noble fake leather journal and am making my own Mythos Tome with it, the Book of Elias the Sleeper. Anybody wanna see pics?

>OC props in the CoC thread
Do you even need to ask?
