What major shake ups could you see happening to crypto in 2018?
Things like Bitcoin Cash or Ethereum taking the number 1 spot from Bitcoin.
I think this is unlikely however.
Ethereum may be overtaken by Cardano, or perhaps even NEO and QTUM. This may also seem unlikely but everyone though 20k bitcoin was unlikely too.
What other major shit could happen?

well NEO is better than Ethereum, unless Ethereum manages to get PoS. But all changes in cryptoland take 10 times as long as a 2x swing in price. The NEO decentralized exchange has its ICO in Q1 and will trade against NEO/Gas with all ERC20 and NEP5 coins, and BTC and ETH. The only real dapp on Ethereum is also etherdelta.
similar situation with Bitcoin, really. If Bitcoin manages to scale, it's completely save. If not, BCH is actually the better coins - even if the good devs are at Bitcoin.

What are your thoughts on the lightning network? I feel since bitcoins need to be locked-in into nodes in order to make it work, available coins will be much more scarce, ergo the price will soar like if there was no tomorrow.

Realistic shake ups:
- Bitfinex/Tether scandal explodes
- ICOs start flopping non stop
- LTC falls into oblivion after being constantly pumped by Charlie Lee and his P&D group and he loses all of his money doing so. He kills himself, no one cares.
- 90% of current cryptos are abandoned, only survivors: BTC - ETH - BCC - DOGE and maybe XMR
- BTC/BCC flip

You all are thinking rationally about this tech or that tech, when the real issue is that there's so much new money in crypto now that everyone is just buying XRP for 75 cents because it's "cheap."
Shit like Tron goes up 1000% in days, while BTC stagnates. XRP pulls in 10 billion dollars over a weekend.
Sure, good tech like XMR, or NEO will do fine, but the big shakeups will come from dumb money. Something like XRP or worse, ADA will overtake BTC this year.
IOTA doesn't even have a working wallet, you can't send transactions, the promise is that someday your car can pay your stereo to play a song, or something. And that bullshit is #7.
To see where the future is going, you need to dumb it down. Buy 4 cent TRX because one day "it will be worth $20,000, like bitcoin. We're early!"
