An absolute ruler has organized, armed and funded the insurgency fighting him

> An absolute ruler has organized, armed and funded the insurgency fighting him
Why would he do that, Veeky Forums?

His head is so far up his own ass, he needs to have the court mage turn his navel transparent just so he can see.

fuck I never beat the overlord 2 final boss but I wanted to

He wants conflict for the sake of conflict. Maybe he's a social darwinist, who thinks that a large-scale, bloody civil war will weed out the weak and allow the strong to rise up.

He is bored.

It fuels the fire for the regime.
Every day, hundreds, if not thousands die, whether or not the insurgency takes pains to keep non-combatants out of the fighting, because that is the nature of war.
Every massacre gives his empire more legitimacy, because the people willingly jump deeper into the iron grip for their own safety.

This^. Having a persistent, credible enemy means you always have an excuse for whatever policy you propose. You can specifically have opinions you dislike be "proven" dangerous by leading to enemy victories, while you can always have a sweeping advance when the country needs a morale boost. You essentially get to good-cop bad-cop your entire country, making you look like the only savior that could keep the horrifying menace at bay.

Some bitch who knows everything told him a bunch of generals he trusted were traitors so to prove her wrong he organizes a rebellion (un)fortunately for him they all were. Blim blam tators doomed to die.

So he can identify all the people who would work against him and direct their efforts against his rivals, mitigate their long-term influence, and if needed, destroy them at his leisure.

This one's easy. Because is fucking spot on. You don't manipulate people with reality. You manipulate them with their wants and fears. If people feel unsafe, they'll accept anything that makes them feel safer, no matter how intrusive and demeaning and nonsensical. Even if it does fuck-all to deal with the actual problem.

Alternately, you're only one man, and so you have a bureaucracy to do shit for you. Except there are competing fiefdoms in your bureaucracy and they're too good at what they do to have your Legions of Terror just kill that bureau. So you go ahead and let them have their little slapfight. Even if one of the strawdogs they're backing in some backwater wins huge, gets bigger than planned, and turns into an organized opposition against your interests.

Third reason: he's Orochimaru from the Warriors Musou games. He's free of the Gods' prison, he's gotten his revenge on them, and now he's bored. Da Ji might be his underling, but she's the only one in the organization taking the whole thing seriously. He's gotten what he wanted out of life, and now he wants a serious challenger to come forward; organizing and funding his opposition seems like the best way to find The One.

Any number of reasons:

Conditions on the ground make an insurgency of some sort virtually inevitable. Might as well control it to your own ends, keeping the conflict from growing into a genuine threat.

As in 1984, a conflict enables the ruler to widely justify huge military expenditure and widespread daily oppression. Why do we have to have mind-reading mages probing everyone's thoughts at random? The insurgents. Why are we all taxed to the point of poverty so you can build a shiny new army? The insurgents.

To test his own forces. Measure their competence in various modes of warfare. Weed out the clumsy and stupid, identity talent. Information on any would-be traitors or informants in his own ranks comes to his attention from "rebel" leaders.

Because he's so powerful and has ruled for so long he's bored out of his mind and is looking for a challenge.

Because he is Sheeve

To create a constant state of war. It's us verse them. Basically 1984

In order to fight the more reasonable and palatable insurgents, while he also fights those with his own forces, destroying them completely, creating a stark choice between his order and chaos.

That war ecomony

I knew the story, but not the part about someone telling him. Who was she?

It's cheaper to unite and control his subjects that way

As an excuse to clean house and implicate dissenters.

If you can blame it on the Kurds and kill a few more of those as well so much the better.

More like weed out the strong who are fighting and leave the weak at home to survive. That only works when youre in a small country where everyone has to fight.

It's his way of committing suicide after realizing that he's been acting like a huge dick.

He wants to die, but have something legitimate take his place. The rebellion might build a better system to replace his own, untainted by his own evil.

Just like USA is supplying ISIS?

>lol chaos
>1984
>he is an immortal vampire and makes coups every dozen years or so to stay in power while not revealing his immortality. Nobody would think that the Commandante is also the former King, and the High Priest before the theocray was overthrown, etc...

>Start wars in secret
>End them publicly
>Reap good will and money

He was forced into the position and never asked for it. He feels he'd have a stronger influence on the country when he's not trapped by political pressures and regulations, or at least when he's not in the public eye as much. But other political forces keep him from outright leaving the throne.

Because we have always been at war with Eurasia

That's why.

Eastasia fuck you phone.

- To teach his subjects a lesson they will never forget by absolutely wrecking the rebellion using his insider information;
- To destroy what remains of the feudal power by using the rebellion to wreck his strongest potential rivals;
- To prevent a real rebellion against his rule from ever crystallising by drawing the malcontents to his fake one;
- To legitimise using the army to plunder his own cities, thereby refilling his treasury;
- To separate his trustworthy allies from those who would secretly support a rebellion to gain personal power;
- To legitimise calling for a foreign intervention by a large empire, which he privately sold his country to for a large sum of money.

It's funny because USA funded the terrorists he fights (and now USA pretends to be fighting).

USA has never had an absolute ruler, neither is ISIS operating on its soil.

It might help serve to expose your enemies.

And if you are their top, or only supplier, you can at least maintain some control over their growth.

Or you are Lelouch, and are trying to bring about an actual just leadership by being so evil that you legitimize the insurgents after doing the hard work of unifying the land. Your regime works for war, but you truly want peace for your people and that won't happen while you are alive.

To root out and destroy everyone with the balls to fight him while intimidating and disheartening those who aren't quite brave enough

That plan was absolutely pants on head retarded.
