Will have regular "control points and tactical objectives" for the first round, a mixed Kill Points/Objectives round for #2 (with a max differential of 3 kill points between both armies) and a 5 objective round with cards that awards 1 point for each outer and 3 for the inmer objective at the end of the game.

I'm not aiming to necessarily win with it, just want to not get tabled immediately or lose every game because of some other reason and just generally have a bit of fun at least.

No they are just very flexible in their monobuild and they need formations. To be fair nobody, except Necrons maybe can spam troop choices and hope to win.

I've seen AdMech players spam solely Skitarii troops with maybe one Dunecrawler or Ironstrieder or spam a shitload of Kataphrons before in situations where a War Convo wasn't possible and get away rather well with it.

You'll be fine when it comes to killing stuff, but that formation eats points like i eat tendies and choccy milk, so taking objectives is gonna be a struggle

What this user said is true. A lot of people here do mathhammer and theory hammer, but they don't actually play much. You playing is the biggest factor of what will be good or not in your area. Your meta might be very casual, the players you go up against might take poor army compositions or just be bad commanders.

Mathhammer and theoryhammer is good for seeing who and what is strongest against other strong things for the absolute most consistent and competitive units, but it really boils down to you playing and seeing what you're up against and what works for you.

Fellow Admech player here. To be quite honest if you do this there is only one way the games can go. You either table them or you lose. Period. Except maybe in the second scenerio with kill points, but even then you probably wanna try and table them to be safe. Good news, there is no fucking way they will be able to kill you. They might pop one bot, maybe two, but if your dominus is healing and you take the IWND relic your little deathstar is nigh unkillable at that point level because they probably won't have too many heavy weapons to deal with them. Decently killy too. Personally as much as I love that formation I don't think that either you or you opponent will have much fun. It's fine in higher point levels where there are other things, but if all you bring is that your options are limited and so are their's, and that isn't very fun.

A chaos marine army won a recent grand tournament, and they're codex is garbage right now.

Honestly, I usually run a battlewagon of Big Choppa Nobz with a Lucky Stikk warboss to tank wounds and they bring some decent pain when they impact with something.
They won't survive five seconds against the cheesiest of cheeses but they're a fun unit to play.

Those are mid Heresy World Eaters if you ask me.
