Not a german, so this may be wrong, but it seems to say it requires cato, a unit of honor gaurd and 4 units of sterngaurd or vangaurd. None can takes tranports it looks like.

Any model within 3" of guilliman may take a look out sir for him, and you add 1 to the BS and WS of all models in the formation.

The strike force seems to give Obsec and Tactical Doctrines. Which is silly since the Demi Battle Company already had Obsec.
But I may be missing something.

Should I include Robert Girlman into my AM army? He seems to be a strong distraction target and buffs my infantry while buying time for my better vehicles.

I'm thinking with two friends about jumping into 40k. I know that start collecting boxes are good for beginners but are they balanced? We want to pick Tau, Tyranids and Space Wolves.
Also what next? Are armoured assault boxes a decent second step?
What about 8e? I heard that basic units are always a good purchase and new edition will not make them useless but is it a good moment to start new army or should we wait until may/june?

He's really fucking good, for pretty obvious reasons.

He's fun to use in a Holy Requisitioner because Deep Striking him is sweet. Also funny in a Cohort Cybernetica, though losing IWND hurts.

Most competitive use is definitely squeezing him into a Skitarii CAD (which he enables) to add to a War Convocation, to give access to his utterly busted Canticles and some of his pretty sweet relics, like giving your Dominus a 3++ save or any character with a unit Skyfire, Monster Hunter, Tank Hunter or Cognis every turn.

You base your army the same way for consistency

if you're all building and playing casually he should be fine. Just make sure you have line-of-sight blocking terrain so he can hide from shooting, since his stuff's super fragile compared to everyone else's. Also warriors can get work done until S8 stuff starts getting thrown around like candy.

Literally any of the formations? Dedicated transports can still carry other units once the game has started.
